Iffy auction?

May 5, 2007

    1. http://cgi.ebay.com/AOD-BJD-MINI-SU...ryZ84635QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

I can't find Angel of Dream as a doll company anywhere on Google. That's a really pretty doll, and a really pretty price, but I don't want to get something that's actually a copy. The mold looks familiar somehow, but I may just have seen this auction before. Can anyone tell me anything about this company, and whether it's safe to buy this doll or not?

    2. No feedback either...

    3. Exactly. x_x

    4. I don't know about the auction legitimacy, but I would recommend never bidding on a doll whose body you can't see.

The doll reminds me of Notdoll Angelica, but I don't know if it was any type of copy.

    5. It's also not a good sign that the item location is "??, ??? China"...

    6. I guess it's an all-around no-go, then.

Still, does anyone know what doll that is, or anything about that company?

    7. I liked the ebay doll so I looked it up too. They have a website at aoddoll.com, but it's all in chinese. I love the first doll shown in thwe 1/4 category.

    8. I couldn't get the pics to show up... :|
It could be a new ABJD company's attempt to come into the scene... ?

I wouldn't bid. I've never even heard of this company before.

I Googled the site and it looked to me to be some message board.
Also the girl doll with pink eyes looks like a crazy woman on the doll site stock photos... her eyes are crooked in the sockets. >XD

They do have more pics of the doll and body on the web site though...

    9. i think it's just a new company, if you read the 'about us' they look ok
i think the dolls look fine too, very asian like,i might look into this^^

    10. Woooow. The bodies are kinda funky, but I sure do like the heads. @_@

    11. It could be a perfectly legit new company and i hope it is cos i love the oriental looking boy they have.
I find that they called their eBay shop 'HotDollzone' a little bit misleading as some people may confuse them with the real Dollzone and the fact that they have also added their address exactly the same way as Dollzone does on eBay too - ??, ??? China.
This could all mean nothing of course - hopefully it's a new company! ^_^

    12. All pics are now on the auction page and the first pic is a different doll to the others shown...strange. And are the other pics of Dollzone Fenyo?
      Curiouser and Curiouser

    13. It reminds me of a Dollzone doll actually @_@

    14. I could be wrong, but it looks to me like the top photo is the same as the closed eyed one on the "Angel of Dream" website

but the next two look like a different doll (my guess would be dollzone)

and the bottom picture is a side shot of a completly different head on the "Angel of Dream" website (the second one under 1/4 dolls)

so looks an iffy auction, but I can't see anything wrong with the company (or atleast I don't see anything that I think is coppied but I don't usualy browse the 1/4 dolls)

    15. The head reminds me of DZ Fenyo, that could just be me though ^_^

    16. yeah it does look like a closed eyed fenyo/bingli (can't remember)

if it helps, i can almost swear that third wig comes from Dollzone =w=
at least it looks exactly like the one i wanted to get from dollzone...

and yes that last pic must be a different head. it's open-eyed for god's sake D:!

    17. O_O Thanks to people for the heads up, I'll send the links to Dollzone -- that auction, the bottom pictures are DEFINITELY a fenyo, and in some of the side pics there's a Nina and a Demi. The top picture in the auction is of a completely different doll though. >.<
The 1/4 boy looks like a Wing head ( though that'd be impressive, given that he's a 70 cm guy.
The pink boots and other little things are Dollzones... gah! I'll be ffw this to them to have a look.

I've no clue if the guy is legit but ---
      1. no pictures of bodies anywhere.
      2. No feedback. We all started somewhere, granted... but usually a company will try to sell small things to build feedback before going into BJD auctions...
      3. You get your item in 3-5 DAYS???? O_o

    18. I'm guessing the dolls they are putting up auctions for already have faceups, and they are shipping them out immediately.

EMS Express does arrive in 3-5 days, anywhere in the world.

Honestly, I don't see why anyone would take the time to copy DollZone dolls. They're already really, really cheap, and I don't think this auction is much less than DZ's 1/4 dolls. I don't see much profit in it.

Their shop name might indicate that they're a distributer for DollZone, or something. If you get a response from DZ, though, please update. I'm liking a couple of the heads from their website, and I don't want to buy a fake. x_x

    19. I personally don't think they're copies - just a scam. Ie, the photos don't really seem to match. I did send an email to DZ though, so I'll post their reply!

    20. They have my fav doll from their website up for auction too now.
I hope they turn out to be legit - has anyone seen this doll before?
I'm a'twitching and a'wantin one of these boys

    21. The seller has only just become active too. As of May. This month. I'd be dubious about spending on a doll when someone has only become active in such a short time frame. I've been buying and selling on Ebay for years and at first to build up feedback I brought little things to get in the positives so I didn't look dodgy! A lot of people do that to show they are trustworthy ^^;

    22. Yes, it's a shame that they seem so dodgy is'nt it? I shan't be bidding on any of their auctions until i hear what Dollzone has to say in their reply to Uneide about them - even so, it's a lot of cash to take such a gamble with.
Still would love to know if anyone has seen that boy before though.

    23. Honestly, I've never seen that 1/3 boy -- and he is GORGEOUS.

    24. I fink i am in wuv with him too Uneide:aheartbea :love

    25. I usually agree with this, but I've also gone against that rule once to buy a fullsdet doll from Cherishdoll when they were brand new and had 0 feedback. It all turned out fine and I had my doll in 5 days for a fantastic price. So, sometimes new legit comapnies do introduce their dolls on ebay as the first way we can buy them - and usually at a lower price.

I do hope this company is legit as I love the first girl on the 1/4 page of their site.

      M

    26. wow, those dolls are really cheap o.o' 590 yuan for a 1/4.. :3 And they're really pretty too. But the doll listed as 60cm on ebay says 46cm on their homepage..?

    27. I'm torn between that gorgeous boy and the first girl on their 1/4 page. I so hope they turn out to be a legitimate new company. *_*

    28. I emailed them and asked for a nude pic of the girl. I'm wondering if they are just selling the head? I"ll post as soon as I get an answer.

    29. Yeah, i emailed them too asking loads of questions - if they are dodgy i might have frightened them off!
      I hope they are legit - i do i do i do
Some of their dolls are lovely.

    30. The way I read the description on the boy, they say he is a SD called Ming. Of course there is no such thing. Could it be they take dolls and do their own costumes and face ups, then rename them?

    31. edit: deleted

    32. Hmm, this is so interesting. If that's the case, what doll is 'Ming' really? A couple of dolls on their website remind me other sculpts but i can't for the life of me think of the dolls they remind me of.
By the way if anyone wants to visit their website for a looksee the URL is...http://www.aoddoll.com/

    33. Thanks for the link:)
Hmmmm.... I 'm getting a twitchy feeling that they are Knockoffs. One of them looks like a Unoa to me, and another one looks like Peakswood. They have put wierd eyes and wigs on them..... which makes them looked disquised.:| Notice how the wigs are low on their heads partially covering their faces?

    34. Another thing...Look at how the head connects to the neck, and compare that to how Dollzone heads connect to the neck...The way the head and neck join look quite similar... >.>

    35. I just checked out the website again and all the heads look a different colour to the bodies - or is that just me?

    36. And, is it just me, or in the pictures where they show the whole body, the heads look too big for the bodies? Almost like they are putting larger doll heads on a smaller body. Also, the skin tones look slightly off with the head compared to the body...
      For example in these pictures:
      http://www.aoddoll.com/UserFiles/Image/aod_baby/girl01/03.jpg
      http://www.aoddoll.com/UserFiles/Image/aod_baby/girl01/04.jpg

    37. Yes, I caught that too.

    38. Personally, I would never buy from a foreign country when the seller doesn\'t have any feedback. Before selling anything, people should try to build up their feedback to at least a 10 by buying stuff.
But I don\'t think that it\'s fair that people automatically assume that the auction is a scam. I know that in the past there were lots of copycats, but now a days when there are so many new dolls coming out, there are bound to be some similarities. I am not sure how it is in foreign countries, but here in the US, if something is at least 30% different from the original, it\'s not considered a copy.

    39. edit: need i explain?

    40.
    41. I am REALLY hoping that this is a legit new company Dollyface cos i'm a hankering after a couple of these dolls
      :)
I don't think we are all assuming it's a scam or a rip-off but you know, we have the right to ask questions. As my Mum always said "If it looks too good to be true then it probably is"
Can we really get quality legit BJD's for such a low price?
Hmmmm - i really wanna know
      :eusa_pray :drool

    42. one thing... has anyone noticed ALL the measurements are the same as a 1/4 DZ girl???

    43. If a person has feedback, it gives them more credability. It shows that they are making an effort towards becoming a part of the community by building trust in themselves that they are capable of conducting a legitamate transaction. I think it\'s chutspa, that some newbey suddenly comes along and tries to sell something without making that effort.
And if they have feedback elsewhere, then they should have posted that they do with a link so people can see it.

    44. Yes...I know because i've been thinking about getting a DZ doll. There's just too many similarities

    45. so it's not just me who is a bit skeptical about this company...

    46. nope, i am too but i'm just sort of hoping......

    47. This company, AOD, reminds me of stealing DZ's website coding before it changed to now what you can see.
What I had actually seen was that their stolen web containing DZ's words and pictures on it. :barf
I'd never recommend anyone to buy AOD dolls.

Some major china bjd forums have banned this company, e.g. DZ's forum.

About this auction....all the doll pictures on the category side are stolen.

Hope someone know more about china bjd companies could tell more about what AOD had done. I'm not familiar with china bjd^^".

    48. Yep, looks as though they have copied the outfit from Latidoll, no disputing that fact but i am also quite intrigued as to what they are going to list next on eBay.....seems they are adding new items one at a time. What else have they copied?
I don't get the time to visit all the BJD websites, it's a bank holiday and i am indulging myself with a day on the computer so thanks for pointing me in the direction of Latidoll ^_^

    49. edit: no comment on this, i only seemed to have offended.

    50. Sure^^
I don't know any other mainland china forums, but I think these two are large and major enough to cite:
      http://www.dollsky.com/bbs/Boards.asp
      http://www.dzdollbbs.com/Index.aspx

Forgot to say that that one above is DZ official forum.

something to add, maybe it out of topic: the ddung dolls selling in this auction store are pirate too....:barf
so don't buy anything from this seller.

    51. this is the Chinese Dollzone website that looks almost the same as the AOD site....
      http://dzdoll.com/
      Hope the link works!

    52. on the AOD site you can see pics of the dolls partially dressed. They are *nothing* like DZ dolls in body or joint style. I have several DZ dolls and I just don't see any similarity to them or any other brand I'm familiar with.

I do agree the pics on their side banner are other brands, but they aren't selling those or claiming they are their own - at least not that I've seen. The dolls I've seen for sale by them on ebay and on their site look all look like new original dolls to me.

As to the site looking similar? Well, most likely they are using the same template from a hosting or website design company. There are *lots* of Korean sites that appear to all use a similar template, so what's wrong with that?

As for a company trying to get feedback before selling? To me it's so transparent when someone buys a bunch of piddly little stuff for the sole purpose of getting a few fbs, sp to me that is completely meaningless. I don't believe that anyone who sells on ebay has to have been a major buyer first.

Yeah this is my point exactly :) I've traded on ebay for 7 years and its a re-occuring pattern for scammers to buy 99cents items to get feedback, people really need to be aware of that if they think that makes a user "trustworthy" in any way :)

    54. edit: i'm keeping my big mouth shut on this topic now

    55. It would be awesome to be proved wrong. 'Cause that moody boy is GORGEOUS! I love his face o___O; <3333 So handsome!

I get what you mean, but ANY activity shown on their feedback is good activity. So far they show nothing. They show no credibility and so far it seems to be going further down the toilet the more people notice similarities and 'stolen' aspects from other doll companies.

I've been buying and selling on Ebay for a really long time [an embaressingly long time]. Mainly to buy. But I've experienced my fair share of scammers that have token feedback. Sometimes buyers/sellers start out well and turn into bad eggs. Thats a fact. I've delt with plenty of power sellers on Ebay that have stitched up me and other people out of our money. Thats the risk you take buying from a company like Ebay. But I've never been so seriously burnt I would never buy or sell again online *touch wood*

I'm just dubious about there being nothing there and the pictures being a bit shady XD

Someone PLEASE prove me wrong! I'm now in love with this 1/4 outfit!!!
      http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-Dollfie-S...ryZ84635QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    57. I never said a person/company should buy \"piddly little suff\" to boost their feedback quantity!
Yeah, if someone is buying only $1 items, that\'s piddly, but if you own BJDs the stuff you buy is rarely piddly, don\'t you think? And most people want quality items for their dolls and are willing to pay for them.
I think that feeback means something and shows the habits of the person, such as normally if a person pays on time, they will ship on time too. Or if their communication is great when they buy something, it\'s normally also great when they sell.
