Sorry to jump in, but wanted to thank juli for posting the IDEX BJD 2013 link for me. Am trying to reach anyone, who has registered for the event but hasn't visited the http://groups.yahoo.com/group/idexbjd2013 site to reserve a table spot yet. Seating is getting pretty short. Jill

lol, I would but I no longer own Athena she's now in a better home. I always felt bad about not knowing how to care her for her better =( . So I just sign up to the yahoo group, I want to be able to sit with you if you don't mind. How does that happen?

 

I wish I would have known Volks was doing so much stuff for IDEX sooner!

Sooooo I'm just simple minded, I signed up on the yahoo group because I'm reading here that's where you have to go to make a spot at the dinner. I already paid for a spot but I have no idea how to work the yahoo account because I've never really joined something like that before so it's a little confusing for me XD I just want to be able to sit next to DiSpy, that's all. I might have someone with me so it'd be two spots.

 

Ballet, you can log into the Yahoo group and look at the table seating arrangements under "Database" link on the left hand side menu. Theresa 226 and I also did not know how to reserve a spot. We want to sit together. When I joined the group, I specifically wrote our real names and requested for a seating arrangement. However, we did not see our names listed on any of the tables in the "Database". Then today, somebody called me and helped us arrange to sit on Berdine Creedy's table. I'm thankful she called. If nobody calls you, I think you can make a post to the whole group asking how you can reserve 3 spots. I wanted to do that. Each table is named after an artist and I am assuming that the artist will sit on that table for the night. So, you should look through the table names in the Database.

 

Oh Thank you so much! But sadly it looks like the table I wanted to sit in is all full =( so I guess any table would do. Has it always been this way? I don't remember every posting where i'd sit before lol.

 

I thought we would be allowed to walk in and sit anywhere as long as we registered for the party. I was surprised we had to arrange seating.

Now, I hope we are still having an informal get together on Friday night.

Glad the link to the Yahoo Group that I posted was earlier in this thread was helpful. I'm looking forward to seeing the competition entries, and the raffle items! Actually, I like knowing where I'll be seated so that I don't have to spend time searching for an open seat. Counting down the weeks now, and looking forward to our meet-up on Friday night too!

Speaking of Friday night...has a meet time been decided on yet? Shall we get together for dinner, or afterwards?

I will put the doll for the competition with pleasure. We need to organize fun for us. More dolls - more fun.

I called the hotel, they said that for dinner, there's Carnivale (restaurant) inside the hotel. It's large enough to seat many but we can also make reservations. I told them we will be carrying dolls that need a place to sit, and they said that can be arranged. Mid price range, not as cheap as fast food but not as expensive as high end restaurants. I received a reply email from Volks today regarding the shipping of limited edition items. They said that customers have to collect them from the booth at time of purchase. I thought there is arranged shipping.

I am having second thoughts about entering my vinyl girl Delilah Noir for the contest. I might just let one of my boys do the work although I prepared Delilah, I actually bought her an expensive dress. Isao, the leader of my resin boys' team strongly objects to letting Delilah represent me in that contest. I might end up not entering a doll at all.

 

Thanks for getting the info about this restaurant, this sounds like a good plan to me! Count me in! I hadn't planned to drag my Beast that I'll be picking up from Volks booth to dinner, just my little Sei-T Gotham, but perhaps I'll bring them both.

I'm so glad you love my Mez. I don't think I'm bringing him to this one though (sorry to disappoint). He's been to so many events it's time to give someone else a turn. And I'll probably bring an MSD - they're just easier to pack. I'm really looking forward to this. Ive never been to IDEX before and it just sounds better and better to me. See you soon!

I am not sure if me or somebody should take note of numbers who are interested in having dinner/doll meet on Friday. If the group isn't big, the restaurant can accommodate but if there are more than 10 people, I think it's better to let the restaurant know before hand especially when we are carrying resin dolls who are absolutely afraid to grease. They will need a properly place to sit or stand.

So, julidc, you have decided to get Beast afterall. Congrats. You have the peace of mind to enjoy the convention knowing that Claude is there waiting . This is so sweet. Sounds like a fairy tale. Can't say the same for me, I'm going after one of the LE dolls and I might not get him. This is my second chance to catch him. I am seriously wondering how Friday morning will unfold with a group of us rushing to the Volks booth!

 

Hello, I'm coming to IDEX!! Can't wait. I would like to attend the meetup too. Does anyone know if I can bring my Soom Chrome and have someone string it for me. I have been too scared to try to get his legs on with the claw feet.

If you're into carrying that big lug Chrom around, I'd bet someone would be able to help you out.. Its really not that hard to change the legs
at all. My boy Kouga (Chrom) is a heavy boy for sure!

 

Yeah, I decided to get the Beast, Volks just made it too easy with that pre-order. I've already named him Vincent. I'll be keeping a good thought for you that your own Volks doll fairytale will have a happy ending!

My congrats about the Beast. He is very-very good doll.
I'm disappointed that I was not able to prepare enough funds in time. It's really surprise me that Volks offer such a great doll.

Love Jun, can't recognize her with that fresh new look. Okita is amazing. Love their costumes. Lucky person to take either of them home. I notice that the one-offs display, entries and lottery announcements all take place on Saturday. I'm surprised the schedule does not stretch to Sunday morning. I have such incredible bad luck with Volks lottery, I don't even dare to think I'd win. I am set on trying for the LE items.

 

Thesaraghina, thanks for sharing the update about the One-Offs! Having my hands full of Beast already......I won't be entering for these, but this event would be a great time to go for any of Volks limited goodies, because although IDEX will be full of doll people, not all of them will be going after Volks. Unlike a Volks Dolpa, there will be many other artists and companies also there showing limited edition dolls and bears of all kinds to tempt everyone to part with dolly dollars.

Hello everyone! I just completed my registration! I was completely unaware about this event, but I'm so glad I found out about it in time! I will be going on Saturday, probably won't be able to stay the whole day, but I can't wait to see lots of pretty dollies and meet everyone ! This will be the first time I go to a doll meet/event so I'm really looking forward to it!

 

Hi Umi-chan, glad you can make it to the event on Saturday. The Volks one-off event takes place on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday night, there is a BJD party organized by Angelic Dreamz. On Friday night, we are having an informal doll meet and dinner for DoA members.

I tried to recall the name of the artist whose dolls I fell in love with a while back. I remember her name now, she is German doll artist Sonja Hartmann, her company With Heart and Soul is listed in IDEX but her name is not in the Saturday night party. She made many lovely 16.5" resin BJDs and she also makes other types of dolls. I do not collect resin girls but if I did, I'd adopt one of hers first. I'm not sure if her resin dolls are in-topic in this forum. I look forward to visiting her booth.

 

Hi thank you so much for the information! Aww sadly, I won't be able to go to the parties since I will only be in Orlando on Saturday and I'll be leaving that same day. I really wished I could have stayed longer, but at least I'll be there even if it's only for a while. I'm so hyped about this event! I can't wait to see the lovely SDs in person and meet everyone who will be there!

I've never seen Sonja Hartmann's dolls before, but I guess I'll get to see them at the show! yaaay!

 

Ok, I have a question for those who have been to IDEX in the past:

When arriving to the event, do you need to pick up a badge or something first? I'm getting in town Thursday, but I don't know if I'll be there early enough for the "registration" that's going on from 8-5. I guess basically I just want to know what you need to do before you can actually go in the doors! I don't want anything to hold me up getting to the Volks booth Friday morning.

 

Yes, in the past you went to the registration booth to pick up your badge, at that time you also received any tickets needed for the various events you had signed up for as well. I too need to pick up my badge on Friday.

If you're unable to get to registration before 5pm on Thursday, registration opens at 8am on Friday. The trade floor doesn't open until 9am. So you can get to the registration desk before 8am to be first in line, then you can hang out by the trade floor doors to be first to get in there too.

 

Boo yah. I'll be there by 8am, cause I need to get to the Volks table ASAP also. ;D haha. Thanks for asking the right questions, thesaraghina and thanks the answers Tintaglia!

Hi all, I have a silly question, do you know if the Volks limited dolls will be on display on Saturday at all? As I understand it they will be sold on friday, but I'd like to know if we can still see them at all on Saturday.

 

I also have to visit the Volks booth on Friday 9am. I'm envisioning how Friday morning will unfold.

 

I hadn't planned on going early, but I might go just to watch the crowd at the Volks booth.

 

I am trying so, so, SO hard to resist. I mean like, WOAH hard, lol!! But, just in case. I wanna be there bright and shiny. ;D Plus, gotta make sure no epic items escape my grabby fingers, too! I have two SD13's, an SD10 and Yo's to dress! Hehehe.

 

The limited one-offs will not be sold until saturday, so i'm sure we'll be able to see and take pics of them before that... and i'm sure that if any DoA members buy the limiteds that they are selling first thing friday morning that we'll see them around the show.

...as for shopping. I'm unfortunately not going to get into town until around 2pm on Friday (providing we don't hit too much traffic), so I hope there will be plenty left to buy. I'm also bringing lots of dolls that need to be dressed (yo, msd and sd). I usually hit up Marcia's booth for some monique gold wigs, and i'm hoping volks or some other sellers will bring eyes (pabol was there one year). I've been saving for this for a long time... I really hope Volks brings tons of clothes, and there's tons of other sellers (dollheart was there a few times), so I always find the best outfits at this show!!

Does anyone know if Volks will bring any basic models or kits for sale that you can take home from the show? Will they bring Dollfie Dream basic models too I wonder?

 

Write to them at [email protected] to let them know what you would like to see. Their website says they will try to bring as many regular items as they can; however, out of courtesy, please only ask them to bring things you are serious about purchasing.

Angelguardian: It's interesting when I look at his full face sculpt without wig (One of your photos). My first impression was that his sculpt (front view) reminds me of my FCS F38 but as I continue to look closer, they're not the same, especially when viewed from an angle. All of Beast's promo photos are side views, this combined with dark skin and dark faceup made it hard for people to see the actual sculpt. There is a full face front photo of Prince Claude and I had problems believing that the 2 share the same sculpt.

I am not good at comparing sculpts unlike my mom who is very good at it but she's not living with me. She would love to have Beast, tall, dark, muscular, handsome gentleman. I prefer pale face guys, she insists that is not good. Thanks for sharing the photos. He is a beautiful Beast.

I wonder if they will display him at IDEX, would love to meet him in real life.

Because of the current pre-order for him, I'm sure Volks will have the Beast on display at their booth too. It would make sense to me that they'd have a couple extra available for sale to IDEX attendees that wouldn't have known of this doll previously. But if you're talking Prince Claude, that's anyone's guess. Although Volks has brought dolls to the NY Dolpas that were for display only. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I'd love to, but I've already got the Wilde Imagination Luncheon happening at 1PM But If you can stay into the evening, there's an informal meet-up planned starting at 6:00 I think we decided on. Scroll back a little on this thread, we're meeting in the lobby, and then will go to dinner. Hope to see you there!

FYI- I believe the charity raffle was only $1 per entry. (Not positive... I have a bad memory.)

PS- Other doll makers are also donating dolls to both the raffle and the door prize.

 

Oh I didn't know you could possibly get anything for going to the dinner. XD

 

Oh yes... usually there are favors (goodies for each person who attends), a bunch of door prizes (everyone gets one entry, and they draw randomly for the prizes), then there is the charity raffle (you buy tickets and place them in the bag next to the raffle items you'd like to win, and they draw one from each bag), then of course there is the doll centerpiece that you might get a chance to buy (one person from each table is chosen).

It's a lot of fun... and everybody walks away with SOMETHING. ^.^
