IDEX (International Doll Expo) April 11 -14 2013

Jan 19, 2013

1. The lottery will be open for the whole participants. Only one of us will get one off. In that case, you need to pay immediately and you will take the doll from the podium. As I understand if you will just buy limited dolls Volks will send them to you a little bit later. Volks doesn't say the lottery time for now. I hope it will be on Saturday.

2. oh my!!! i was not expecting that at the least!
i cant wait to see him and take photos xD

3. Wow, he's awesome!! Too bad he's sooo expensive.

I wonder if there will be others as well (i'm hoping for an MSD SDC).

4. I was not expecting this.A surprise. He can be pre-ordered. Given the price, I need to think of whether I can or cannot afford him. However, I've always found the SDgou body too muscular for my liking and I had always preferred fair boys with pale faces. People tell me that this preference is a problem! :| I should prefer the deep, dark, tall, handsome gentleman but I never change.

I've set up doctor's appointment for 2 of my dolls. I am bringing 1 body with 2 heads.

My luck in Volks lotteries have always been bad.

Is there a meetup on Friday night at the Globe?

5. You know, I had a suspicion that they *might* have Beast available at IDEX, but I never thought you'd actually be able to pick one up at the event if they did. O: I do love tan boys, but I'm not super fond of the Beast/Claude headsculpt, and am kind of ambivalent about SDGou. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get to see him in person, but I'm just not sure if I should try and pre-order based on such wishy-washy feelings towards him. ^^;

For oneoffs, what they do is display the models with their info and a number. At the NY Dolpas they usually had somewhere between 10-12 or so, but I'd be surprised if there were that many at this event - I'm expecting 5 or 6. You pick which one you like, write your info on a card, and put it in a box. You can enter for more than one (once only for each one), but if you are selected for one and you accept it, you cannot win any other ones. I'm wondering how they'll do it, but I'm guessing they'll display the dolls one day, and then at a certain time they'll close the entry box, and then draw out winners for each doll. You do have to pay right then, cash or credit only, and they box your doll up for you, and you fill out ownership paperwork, then get to take the doll home. I can tell you from experience that it is an awesome feeling to have them call your name for the oneoff you wanted! :D

6. Hmmm, do I try to convince my husband that this trip is what I need for my birthday? :D I really want to know what other limited items they are going to have. And the chance for a one-off is so tempting. *pokes at Southwest's website to see if she can get the ticket with points* Because if I don't have to pay to fly, that leaves more Volks money. :D

7. This is my first time to IDEX and I have never attended DOLPA. Does Volks have other items to sell with them other than dolls, like clothing, shoes, wigs etc..?

I have sold some dolly stuff and am saving like a madwoman so have $$ to spend. I like Ruby Red Galleria shoes and some of them fit my girls, so I am excited to see what they have and make sure that they will fit.

8. I am hoping for a yosd =X don't think that will happen but it's fun to dream <3 I hope everyone can come!
Theresa226 This is the first time IDEX will have Volks, but I am sure they'll sell some clothes and wigs and stuff, they did put in the listing that they'll bring whatever we email to them that they have ^^

9. Great to know! Thank you Ballet.

10. -does a dance- Woo, I am so excited, haha. Just reserved a room for Friday night. :D It's gunna be a blaaaaast. Got a cheap hotel room so I can spend more dollars on doll stuff. XD

@Ballet; I'll probably bring my three big Volks boys in their case. I have a room so they can hang out while I'm shopping. I'll have to see what's going on out there, at the BJD Mixer (which I did sign up for, I'm going with HavokGrl!), etc and see if I want to bring them to the actual thing. I'll prolly have my SD10 School C boy though, cause he needs clothes. XD; haha.

So anyone make a solid thought on a meet time aside from the Mixer? I know HavokGrl and I will be available Friday night! :3

11. I'm up for a meet-up on Friday night! :D I think the best thing would be to at least start it somewhere in the hotel, and I'm happy to have everyone come to my room! :) If we get more than my hotel room can hold we can move elsewhere....maybe poolside?

Meanwhile, with all this discussion about what to wear to the BJD Mixer, I went looking through my email confirmations for IDEX and didn't see my registraton for this event! :0 Good thing I checked because apparently I hadn't previously registered for it! But I sure am going now...YAY! :)

Hey Di...is there somewhere I can see the details about the BJD Mixer? Like what are the costume categories? All handmade or can they be owner styled from existing manufacturer outfits? I've checked both IDEX's site and Angelic Dreamz too, but didn't see this info.

Thanks much!

Juli DC ...Who's still seeking a nice roomie to share my digs at the DoubleTree Hilton! Please PM or email me to discuss. :)

12. I agree with Julidc that there needs to be more information concerning the BJD mixer party competition, the categories of dolls and clothes type.

I tried to register for the BJD Mixer party just now but the link is gone, so I assume the registration is closed and the event fully subscribed. I am wishy washy about this event because I planned to enter my American vinyl BJD Delilah Noir for the event competition but I am unable to fix her wardrobe malfunction, hence I was not motivated to register. I do not let my resin BJDs participate in any form of competition during doll meets and social events. This is a personal rule which I set. So, I don't have a doll for the event. I also wanted more shopping money, if I do end up adopting a new doll from Volks....we are all familiar with the notion of a fiscal cliff. :|

I think there should be a doll meet on Friday night for DOA members. I think we should meet somewhere outside the hotel with better photo opportunities. We need someone from the Orlando area to suggest places. I remember DiSpy suggested something as she has attended IDEX many times.

13. MMm well i cant really think of any places near by off hand for photo opportunities outside. I suspect it would be pretty dark too...
all i can think of are silly places like Ikea or the Millennium mall xD and i would probably spend all my money in ikea. D;

14. I heard that the last half a year Volks changed oneoffs rules. On Japan Dollpa they stopped the lottery and starts to auction dolls.
And for the Friday evening meeting I think that the easiest way will be to find the place inside the hotel.

15. Meeting in the hotel is also good but I think meeting in someone's hotel room will be cramp and weird with the bed/s. I'm not sure if we are allowed into the pool area when we're not in swimwear. The hotel http://www.doubletreeorlando.com/orlando-hotel-business-center.aspx has a huge lobby, it has a quiet bar and restaurant "Spritz" but I'm not sure how quiet it really is or if it's big enough to accommodate a large group. I am estimating we at least have 15 people although I'm not sure of the exact numbers. There is also a Starbucks but not sure about the size. We can meet at the lobby and then decide where to go but that is not a good idea because reservation is required for a large group if we plan on having dinner together. I like the idea of meeting at the globe. Someone suggested this a few post ago. We can have dinner early at Spritz or somewhere else nearby and then go to the Globe. Someone familiar with the geography of that area should advice on this.

16. I say again, I would love to meet-up on Friday night with fellow DoA members attending IDEX, and/or from Florida, but it seems a lot of effort to drag our dolls off site to try and do a photo shoot. It will most likely be getting dark by the time we all get together, so why not just meet, talk, and play with out dolls in the hotel, or out by the pool if the weather is nice. I already have a full schedule of activites booked at IDEX and I imagine I'm not alone in this. ;) Can't we all agree to meet up at 6:30 in the hotel lobby and either grab a bite at the hotel, or meet up later after dinner and hang out?

**EDIT--Looks like Stargazer had a similar idea while I was posting. ;)

Meanwhile, if you've already registered for IDEX you may be able to add a ticket to the BJD Mixer the way I did:

1. Go to the IDEX website www.idexshows.com

2. Click on the “Register Now” button in the upper right side of the page.

3. Input your email address

4. Select the appropriate registration type

5. Click “Continue” button

6. If you used the same email address as in the past your information will auto-complete. If you are using a new email address you will need to fill in the requested information.

7. Click “Continue” button

8. Select any workshops/ events you would like to attend

9. Click “Continue” button

10. Input your payment information

11. Click “Finish”

12. You will then receive registration confirmation.

13. Print out the page containing your updated registration information with the events/classes you requested.

17. Thanks julidc, there is no longer a link from the open website to register for the BJD party but must login to register for those who registered for the expo without signing up for the event. I am wishy washy about attending.

I just saw photos of the one-offs from the Osaka 7 dolpa in the Osaka dolpa thread, wow, they all look AMAZING!!! It's worth trying even if only 1 person wins. Really makes me wonder about the one offs at IDEX. Based on forum comments by some members attending the Osaka Dolpa, Volks is still using the lottery system for the one offs. Those one offs are awesome. There's a F35 one off. I'm praying to see an F40 one off at IDEX. I know it's wishful thinking, the F40 is my secret dream doll, dreams are free!

I agree that for the Friday meetup, we should meet at the hotel lobby, have a quick dinner somewhere and then just do a meet up to play with our dolls. My concern is that the group's size require table reservation. We don't know exactly how big our group is.

18. I am not 100% but I do not think I will be able to join for the meetup on Friday night, as I have made plans to hang out with an old friend who lives up there. But if we can't hang out, then I will go to the meet ^^

19. EDIT: The information given to me by an IDEX Staff Member was incorrect. I've edited this post with the correct information... sorry for the confusion.

Here's the basics :

Only one contest category this year... "Collectors Choice".

--

Contest rules:

Dolls MUST be secured on stands.
Only one entry per person.
No backdrops.
All American and Asian BJD Eligible (includes resin, vinyl, etc)
All dolls MUST be on stands provided by the entrant.
Any props used must be stable.
No full nudity or violence.

20. I kind of want to do one from Film Factory o.o since one of my dolls is from a children's classic...hmmm I wonder if I should though, he's face-up less ='/

21. Hi Stargazer and all,

You must be registered for IDEX (either as a Collector for $15 or Toy Trade Buyer/Exhibitor) before you can register for the BJD Mixer or any other event or workshop at IDEX. In other words, you can't just show up for the party. I just checked and I still see the link to purchase ticked when I log onto my registration and access the events and workshops. None of the other meal events are on this list though, so you will need to select separately things like the Jamie Show Luncheon w/Mel Odom, The Wilde Imagination event, The Tonner event, and the Awards Banquet.

There is an IDEX chat group on Yahoo Groups for this BJD Mixer that my pal Am here on DoA let me know about. But it looks like DiSpy has already summed up most of the important info, other than it now appears tickets for the raffle items being drawn at BJD Mixer will be available to purchase beginning at IDEX Registration on Friday morning! The proceeds from the raffle benefit an animal rescue shelter run I believe by someone in the doll community, and you'll get 10 tickets for $10.

Juli DC :)

22. I believe Connie Lowe is involved with the animal rescue shelter raffle. I will definitely be participating in that one.

I probably won't be entering any of my dolls in the contest, but look forward to seeing all the entries and enjoying the festivities.

Friday night meetup sounds great, and starting at the Hotel and working from there sounds like a good idea. We might still have some daylight for photos.

23. Hello everyone )) i go to IDEX too!!!! yay!!!! also, anyone looking to share a room on DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel please PM me.))) i ready book the room,so wait for someone who interested)))

24. I just signed up for the Saturday night party. However, I won't be entering for the contest. My resin boys are not allowed to participate in any form of contest in doll meets, anime conventions and social events. My vinyl girl is the party type, she doesn't want to dress in those contest themes for a disco party. The themes are interesting, it's not hard for people with Soom MD and the correct fantasy parts. I am just going to enjoy the night with like minded doll lovers and admire the pretty dolls. :aheartbea

I hope Volks announce the schedule and procedures for the one offs soon. I booked my return flight on early Sunday morning, if they announce winners on Sunday morning itself, I have to change my flight. When I booked my flight, I did not know that Volks would offer one offs. I really wasn't planning on attending a mini dolpa. It's a pleasant surprise.

25. The information previously posted was from a previous year's BJD Event. This year's doll competition is: "BJD Contest: Bring your favorite BJD & enter it in the BJD Collector's Choice Competition. Prize to be Announced. * Dolls MUST be on Stands to Enter the Competition."

Edit:
DiSpy edited her original post, so I removed the quote from this post.

26. Ommm))) people!!! i still try to find share a room with someone,please..)))? PM meeee)))
from 11 april till 14 aprill, for any time)) 1-2 day,no problem))

27. What you are talking about is the "collectors choice" which I also mentioned in my post.

The information I got is from an email from the co-ordinator herself.

...and yeah, i'm a member of the yahoo group as well (i'm just not very talkative on there).

28. DiSpy,
Do you know should I sign somewhere before for the Saturday doll Contest or I can do it at a site in the Contest room?

29. This is the information posted in the IDEX BJD (Sat nite) Event Yahoo group:

The 2013 contest is going to be a simpler contest. ·
The Contest Dolls will be "COLLECTORS CHOICE" and voted on by the Attendees.·
The dolls can be dressed any way you wish and will be chosen for their Visual Appeal. ·
One Doll per person may be entered.·
All dolls must be on stands to be entered.·
Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of time to place your dolls for exhibit.
*The WINNER will receive a SPECIAL GIFT, (which has not been decided at this time.)

If the previous information came from the IDEX 'Show' coordinators, it would make sense that they might have the 2011 contest info because there was no doll contest for 2012. The contest information for the 2013 BJD event was only recently decided on, so the Show coordinators might not know it's different this year.

30. What usually happens is you show up between the posted times... your name, etc information is recorded, they give you a tag for your doll and a piece of paper that you hold on to. Then at the end of the dinner that night, you turn in the paper in order to pick up your doll.

31. Thank you. It sounds easy.

32. Ok Guys...

I'm very sorry about the contest confusion. I spoke to Jill and she told me that there's a new staff and they are only doing the "Collectors Choice" contest and not the other ones this year.

The information that they were going to do them was given to me by someone else who is an IDEX staff member, but not involved with the BJD Events... she was misinformed.

So, to clear up any confusion... I will edit my previous post.

33. I hope I didn't cause any discord. I just didn't want anyone to create a specially themed doll for competition, then arrive to find that there were no themes. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's favorite doll in the "Collector's Choice Competition".

34. I just came from Dolpa, and that is incorrect. They usually auction off for charity a couple of oneoff dolls which are in special cases with the auction information next to them. In addition to those, they also have a selection of one-offs set up for the lottery entry. They are very clearly marked, so you don't have to worry about falling in love with an auction doll. At this Dolpa they had two Lunas for auction. I believe the white skinned one went for around $5000. But wow, that was one gorgeous doll.
*Whoops, I stand corrected. The NS Luna went for around $4000, the WS one went for around $8000. :o

35. So glad that you are going to the Saturday nite BJD dinner, stargazer. It will be fun!

It looks like I will be bringing one more doll with me; I just got shipping notice for my Soom baby, so she should be arriving in plenty of time to go with me! :)
She will be easy to bring, she's so tiny.

36. I have some more news... I found out that the Volks people are confirmed going to attend the Saturday Dinner! :)

Also, there's an update on the contest...this was the official notice that went out.

37. theresa 226 Looking forward to meeting you and your new Soom baby. I am bringing one SD16 boy body with 2 heads (Yukinojo and F38). I managed to fix my girl's wardrobe woes so I'm stashing her in my bag, vinyl is not easily breakable and light, she's easy. Looks like we're going to have many dollies in our room! :aheartbea

38. I really want to carry all 4 of my dolls around with me lol

39. DiSpy, thanks for summarizing and posting this updated info on the Contest! There's so much fun social chat happening on the Yahoo Group for this BJD Mixer it's a bit of a challenge to winnow out all the needed event data. ;)

If you have registered for the BJD Miixer, you will have an on site choice of dinner entrees, either chicken or vegetarian. ;) Table are being assigned now, and I will double check with Jill Jackson, who is coordinatating this, whether she prefers to be emailed directly, or by a post on the Yahoo Group. :)

Juli DC :)

40. Omg Reisner, look at price! :doh :aheartbea :...(

Natsuki....not only is she beautiful, she's also on the right body type. I've been waiting forever for the right DD, is she the one? But I was also waiting for Reisner....

41. Holy. Freakin'. FIZZ. Reisner is. Woah. 8,,,D At least I will get to see him though, I suppose!!

Starting to get excited, ya'll... !!

@thesarghina, if you go to the dinner, you can sit with me. ;D lol.

42. Wow, awesome dolls... those prices tho... jeeze!

I hope these are not the only dolls that they bring. I was sooo hoping for an MSD.

43. I'm saved! XD I mean I was hoping fir a yo or maybe even a msd, but I'm good XD. I do want to see them in person though <3 can't wait!

44. In the secondary market, it is near impossible to find a full set Reisner in original faceup complete with all accessories. I once saw a Reisner mint in box for sale on ebay by a seller in Korea, it was priced at around $2300. The eBay auction photos were not clear, I am not sure if this is the same set but it looks the same. I was too scared to purchase and it was gone, I never saw full set Reisner MIB again. Soon after that ebay auction, I acquired SD16 Yukinojo full set in original faceup priced at around $300 less than Reisner. By then, I was so desperate for either Yukinojo or Reisner, I acquired Yuki with no questions asked. I gave up searching for full set Reisner. It would be awesome to meet him in real life. The price is too high for me at this point in time although it would have been tolerable 2-3 years ago. Volks is charging secondary market price for Reisner although like what I mentioned, it is near impossible to find a full set Reisner in the second hand market at whatever price.

45. Hi all,

I checked regarding the table seating as promised, and Jill Jackson replied that everyone who registered for the BJD Mixer should receive an invitation to join the Yahoo Group which contains the list of open spots at each table. It's up to each attendee to decide if they wish to join this chat group and choose the table where they wish to be seated. If you don't want to join the Yahoo Group, you'll be seated at any table with openings. ;) Here's the link for the Yahoo Group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/idexbjd2013

Meanwhile, all I can say is that after seeing that ravishing Reisner (gasp!), it almost makes the Beast feel like a bargain....well...maybe not. but quite as heart stopping as the price point on that pirate! ;) And the SD16 Megu with her softly rounded shoulders looks sooooo pretty! :aheartbea I'm also looking forward to seeing all of these doll in person! :D

Juli DC :)

46. Maybe you can get some neat outfits for your DD tho Ballet! ;)

47. Reisner!!! *drools* :D That's great that SD16 Megu is offered again. She is beautiful too!

48. Well, I have Southwest points out my ears, so I booked a ticket to Orlando. Still not sure if I will make it, but my $7.50 and points are refundable, and at least I have an airplane seat if I talk myself into it.

:...( Reisner~~~. *wants badly*

49. Invisible Wings! That's great! You've got your flight, all you need to do now is go to the IDEX site and register! It's only $15 for Collectors (free if you've got credentials for the Toy Trade). The IDEX room rate at the Doubletree Hilton is $134, which isn't bad, especially if you can room with someone, or a couple of someones. ;) If you're interested in attending the BJD Mixer on Saturday night, it is almost full, so I'd sign up for as you register for IDEX. If you're wanting to attend the Lunch with Mel Odom event, also on Saturday, it only had 4 seats remaining as of 2 days ago.

Hugs, Juli :)

50. Thanks Juli! I may have to find a roommate, that would definitely help. :D I'm coming in Thursday night and leaving on Sunday at this point.

For those who have already registered, did you put your actual name on your badge name or your DoA name? I'm leaning towards my DoA name. :XD:

51. I put my real name. But DOA names might be easy to recognise and could be fun.

52. I walk around with a doll bag that has my DoA name embroidered on it so people can recognize me (at meetups also).

I put my real name on my badge.

53. I put my real name on my badge. ^^;

but i like the idea of a name tag on your dolly bag too~

54. Ok, I went ahead and signed up for the bjd dinner afterall. >_< I didn't get an invite to the Yahoo group, but used julidc's link and signed up anyways. I hope I will get information on table seating? I'm going with a friend who is not into the doll hobby, but she does like my dolls and I try to convince her every now and again that she should get one herself some day. XD;

I'm considering entering a doll into the collector's choice, just for fun. Though I'll most likely need to buy a saddle stand if I enter my girl, so I'm hoping Volks will bring some to sell. The only stands I have right now are suitable for SD17 boys, not so much for SD13 girls. ^^;

I'm definitely looking forward to the whole event though, and am doing my best to save save save for all the stuff I am going to want to buy. :)

55. theresa 226 and I were wondering if we need to reserve seating, I also followed julidc's link and signed up but did not get an acceptance from the group or an invite from the organizers.

I was up all night talking with my SD13 Isao, leader of my resin boys' team. He suggests that I enter a resin doll for the night's contest instead of the vinyl bjd Delilah Noir. It's not about winning, it's about participation and being there for me. Since he is not coming with me to Orlando, he suggests I let his brother do the work. He thinks it's silly of me to ban his team from participating in all contests during social events. I've prepared Delilah for the night and there are reasons why I want her to participate but I'm actually having second thoughts that may be, I should just enter one of the boys or no doll at all.

thesaraghina Nice to know that you finally decide to sign up for the dinner. When I saw Reisner's price, I wanted to withdraw from the dinner.

56. Haha, that's the hard part!! ;)

57. Haha, thanks! And Reisner's price is very high for retail, but I also think it's not that bad overall - he's a cruise version fullset, which there were never many of, he comes with the extra sword hand, and of course, there's the peace of mind knowing that he's direct from the company and not a knock-off, in this time of uncertainty in the secondhand market. He's still several hundred dollars cheaper than what I paid for my Reisner's head on auction back in 2007, but it is a lot of money to drop all at once on one doll! I usually buy my big ticket boys on layaway. XD

Definitely! Especially because not only do I want to buy new things for my dolls to wear to the event, but I want to buy myself new clothes, too! XD

58. Hi,
Sorry to jump in but you asked about the MSD Volks. I did ask Volks about the young woman I've been working with at the USA Volks. She said she would ask to see if they could include some. But, who knows. Jill
