Very nice! I love that elastic with the ruffle, I use it all the time in doll outfits. I think that is the best feature of sock couture... they make some really cute knit patterns for socks. Excellent!! Some day I plan to try making a hoodie sweater (some day... )
Thank you strangeangels! This is the BEST tutorial. The color coding and visual demonstrations along with the instructions are masterfully done -- for someone like me whose eyes usually want to cross when I try to read the proper way to sew. thank you, thank you...
Socks clothing are easy and can be very nice looking. I love your idea and your thread. Thanks for sharing.
That's true. I bought today two pairs of lovely socks and I look forward to trying something (probably the jacket) for my very slim and very mini MSD. Thanks for sharing!
Perfect tutorial! I was looking for a birthday present for a friend, and thanks to this tutorial I will make her some doll clothes!
Thanks for the comments everyone! Looking good Jeshii and 'lyn'!! (and 'lyn', that cat hat is cute, too x_annika_x, I will try to post some instruction on the hat when I have the chance. I want to try a variation of this pattern with some new socks I have (as soon as I can find some time!! so stay tuned.
Hello, for Christmas I made my first dress for Kanu!!!!. But instead of socks I had that girl's tights and so I could also make the hat. Thank you very much for a very simple tutorial!!! ah! Sorry for my english ...
The pictures are showing for me right now... they are posted on Photobucket... are they still not working?
Wow! I've just found this via Pintrest. I've been trying to find simple free patterns and this is perfect. Definitely going to give it a go. It's got to be better than my first attempt.
They do appear to be gone. The original post is from 2010, perhaps the poster has not maintained their hosting. They did mention that they used Photobucket earlier and there has been a lot of people leaving that host with all the radical changes to the ToS over the years. @strangeangels Any chance you could rehost the images and update the thread, simple basics never go out of fashon. Considering how long this thread is, a lot of people clearly liked the tutorial.
Hi everyone! Sorry, I only saw this post now, but you found the instructions on my website... it is the same one! Yes, I lost my hosting with Photobucket (although they may have reinstated service later, I had already removed my photos and never figured out how to repost them.) *edit* OK, I think i fixed it! Post pictures here if you make one!!
Thank you for fixing it. I wanted to recommend this MK to my friends. I sewed on this MK in 2013. Everything is very clear and simple, the pattern is easily adjusted in the sewing process. Instead of a skirt, I made shorts. The only thing I couldn't figure out was how to sew a hat. Although I didn’t need a hat, it wouldn’t fit on my boy’s ears, it still torments me a little)))) This is my most successful idea on how to sew a hat. I don't know how correct this is.
It looks fabulous!! The calf warmers look great on the hooves! The hat you have looks a bit more complex than the one I made... it used a leftover heel scrap from the top (you got that part), the bit of heel from the jacket sock (you got that, too) but I think that I just sewed the 'bill' to the 'head', and then used a thin scrap of sock to bind the raw edge of the heel part (which would be the front edge of the hat) and added a short bit of left over elastic to form a chin strap that is hanging down in my picture, I didn't hook it closed in the front picture but I may have in the back view picture. If you took that yellow part (that you have pinned on) and made it thinner to just bind the raw edges and made it longer to hang down as chin straps, you would have what I made! But also, since there are no rules to making sock hats, do what looks good to you! Also, i think I cut a small crescent moon shaped slice of a plastic margarine cup to use as stiffening in the bill of the hat, but not necessary. When I made it, I felt like that hat was lacking... I think it would have been cooler to add goggles to the front of the hat since it was supposed to be a 'pilot' type of cap, but i probably didn't have the time to fabricate goggles at that time. After I made it, I felt like it was too fussy for a beginner with no sewing experience, but it looks like you have some skills so you figured it out! But... yes, ears! They get in the way of hats and also wigs!!
