How Old Are You (continued)

Mar 15, 2015

    1. I'm 26 and have been in the hobby since 2007. I was 15 when I got my first doll, he was an Abio Angel, I don't remember the scuplt. My second shortly to follow was an Elfdoll Lydia.
I took a pretty long break from 2010 until recently. I would briefly pop in and out between the years, but I'm back now.

    2. I became interested when I was 16 but had no money. Now I am 19 with a job and in college and still have no money:(

    3. I'm 29 now. I got my first BJD in 2012, but I've loved dolls of all sorts (including eyeing and window shopping BJDs) since I was young.

As a side note, I went to Seoul Doll Free Market today and most of the people there who owned dolls were actually children. Their parents were there, but the dolls belonged to the children. Like 8, 9, 10 year old children. I thought that was a little odd. For a child to have such an expensive doll.

    4. I've been eyeing bjds for a few years now! I am currently 16, with two dolls! :D

    5. I'm 39 and I'm collecting dolls since 2009, mostly BJD and Blythes. I also collected some vintage vinyl dolls but lately I'm downsinzing them to focus on BJD. My Blythe family is complete.

    6. I'm 13 and getting my first doll very soon, I've been in the hobby about 2 months and I'm super excited!:dance

    7. Nearly 65 here.

When I was 10 my favourite game was building fairy homes in walls, trees, even just long grass (I have never forgotten the excitement of finding a mouse actually nesting in one bedroom I had built!). I dreamt of growing up to have a house of my own, full of animals and books, where I could make as much mess as I liked. Now I am retired, have a house full of dogs, cats, books and mess, and I am still having fun building miniature stuff and playing!

    8. I'll be turning 37 in few weeks. Just bought my first doll. Never really played with dolls before so this is very exciting.

    9. I'm 33 and I have been admiring these dolls for around 6-7 years (at least that was when this account was created). In December I finally succumbed to the calling and got my first doll, Ringdoll Julian. Even when I was little I've never played with dolls, so this is very fun even tho people around me (besides my mom, who likes my new hobby) always are joking about how I bought a "husband" and that I should stop playing with dolls :/

    10. I got my first BJD when I was 19.
I knew about BJD since I was 12, but, none of my parents allow me to buy them. I also think I'm too young to handle BJD back then. So, I started with Pullip. Now that I'm in the university and started living alone, no one can stop me :evilplot:

    11. I'm turning 32 tomorrow and have only been in the hobby for a couple years.
I think I'd first found out about BJDs,... maybe 3-4 years ago and I got my first doll 2 years ago.

    12. I've always been curious and interested in bjds since a young age but it hasn't been until the last year or two that I've seriously been interested in the hobby. Getting my first doll soon and I'll be 28 next month! :)

    13. I'm 25. Got interested in BJDs when I was around 13/14. Didn't get my first doll until I was 20.

    14. I'm 57 and just now learning about BJDs. I've always loved dolls but never noticed BJDs. How could I have missed them! Once I learn enough about them to understand what's what, I will purchase my first BJD!

    15. I am 23 and I got my first doll at 18.

    16. Just turned 31 years old, and got my first bjd when I was 27.
Saw my first bjd back when I was 18, pretty thing, belonged to a very artsy friend. I had no idea how much work was put into such a hobby, and really didn't know anything about them till I was in my mid-twenties.

    17. I'm 51 and have been collecting dolls as long as I can remember...I got my first bjd back in 2008, so collecting them for around 9 years.

    18. I love seeing the wide range of ages in this hobby!! I'm in my mid twenties and have only been in the hobby for about a year.

    19. I am in my early twenties and I discovered BJDs shortly after graduating from college three years ago. I decided to join the hobby a little over a month ago.

    20. Wow! A lot of the people began to play BJD when they are adults...Um I am 17 now, I started to buy dolls at the age of 16...and when I was in primary I known the existence of BJD because it was very famous at that moment.

    21. I'm 26! I've been in the hobby about three years now, but I went through a time period where life got in the way and I had to put my dolls on hold. Fortunately things have smoothed out a bit more over this last year and allowed me to get back into it again!

    22. I am 62, always liked all dolls, but i really like bjds..... I bought my first doll early this year...
      And loving it.....so many options....

    23. I am 18 and I bought my first two BJD's at 17. I discovered BJD's around 15 or 16. Not a ton of people as young as me in the hobby, but I understand. BJD's are expensive, and I had to save up like two years from my part time job to get my dolls. Minimum wage and BJD's just don't mix man. :( Anyway I plan on collecting and loving BJD's till I die so I'm excited to see where this hobby takes me!

    24. I am 29, and have been collecting dolls and figures for several years now! I think I got my first Bjd about 6 years ago. Love this hobby, not only for the dolls, but for the amazing people too!

    25. I am 24 and I still haven't bjd. But I began to be interesting since 2008, when I saw one of them.

    26. I'm 28 but I didn't get my first bjd until last year. I discovered bjds around 2007, I believe. It was really interesting to watch bjds evolve from single joints to double joints. Back then it was just single jointed dolls until I started seeing a few double jointed ones... but now they are as common as single jointed. From seeing all these different dolls I now know I prefer all my dolls to have double joints, both knees and elbows.

    27. I am 22 and I am in this hobby for just about 1 year, but I already have four dolls. I think it is just like drug. Once I owned one, I cant help but wanting others.

    28. Yes, these dolls can tie to oneself! One view and... the end, you are lost in the world)).

    29. 23! Got interested a couple years ago, have 1 doll and am looking at getting another! :3nodding:

    30. I'm 28! I will be 29 this December. I definitely will have the dolls forever (except the ones I am planning on selling soon). I hope to also encourage my children to like them (not play with them until they are mature enough) because they're so much cooler than mass-produced Barbies lol

    31. In my 30's

    32. I'm 23 and waiting on my second doll to come. However, I've wanted BJDs since I started going to anime conventions back when I was 16 and saw people carrying them around.

    33. I'm 25 and I've only recently started collecting my dolls. This year actually. :chibi It's cool to see everyone's more or less in the same age range here.

    34. I've always been drawn to playing dolls but only had access to them when I was around 12 years old and my foster sister started letting me play Barbies with her. We played together well into my late teens but I was so shamed for still playing with them that I stopped. As I got older my favorite stops when traveling to other cities would be the big toy stores and their Barbie sections. I would research over the internet admiring for years the more fancier collectible fashion art dolls, never giving myself permission to buy. After college when I settled into my career I continued the "looking but no touching" admiration of dolls still holding onto the shame even though no one was there to judge me anymore but myself. After I started writing, the idea to shell my characters broke me out of my embarrassment and this year on my 41st birthday I proudly purchased two ABJDs and I couldn't be happier. I am happy to be a part of a community that understands my lifelong connection to dolls and you know what - my husband and kids didn't even bat an eye when my dolls arrived. My boys talk about "my boys" all the time and refer to them by name, my husband makes suggestions for photo shoots and props for my diorama. I learned that often you can be your own harshest critic, that no one is too old or too young for this hobby [although access to money is key], and that indulging in this creative, harmless hobby completes me.

    35. I'm 26. And I've been in and out of the hobby since I was around 14, 15. I think I'll be sticking around for quite some time. No matter how long of a break I take I just can't seem to leave. But I'm not complaining. ;)

    36. I'm in my early 20's now but I got my first bjd at 19 (almost 20) .

    37. I'm 32, will be 33 in a month... >.< and I've been collecting dolls since 2005.

    38. I've heard of BJDs for the first time when I was 14... then spent a whole year to earn some money to buy my first doll. When I received her, I automatically lost all interest in this hobby.
Now I'm 23 years old and it comes back to me :) I'm actually working on my old Supiadoll Rosy (who spent all of these years in her box) and waiting for the anniversary event to order one of the Maskcat dolls... I think I had to grow up to really appreciate this hobby :)

    39. It’s true! I have four blythes of my own (one of them I customized myself)! I was 20 when I got my first Blythe and I’m 21 now with a new BJD and saving up for another.

    40. I am 25 and got into it a few years ago. Don't have many dolls yet but I just love them!

    41. I'll be 25 in a few weeks, and I got my first doll when I was 22. I think I discovered BJDs at 20 or 21.

    42. Actually im 20 this year but i started a year ago (at age 19). I actually dont see this hobby or toy as a kids toy!!

      1. They are really fagile and parts can easily be lost

      2. Its not a toy that is for all and requires quite alot of thought and time

      3. Its hella pricey for a doll, if younger id suggest to start with barbies i guess if like 12 years old or below.

      4. BJD requires a proper space to be kept on or in. They also need a cool room free from elements that can damage the doll

      5. Resin is delicate in a sense that wrong chemicals and deform or break the doll.

Hope this helps!! Just opening my opinion based on my 20 years or life in the Philippines!!

      Happy collecting guys!! ♡

    43. I've always been fascinated by the beauty of bjd ever since I was 10. Back then Dream of Doll was possibly the biggest company, I loved their dolls and their bjd story so much I even had a "crush" on their Ducan. Now I'm 18 and I just got my first bjd a few month ago.

    44. I'm 21 currently and just got my first doll this week! After falling in love with them 10 years ago I'm so excited to finally be in the hobby!

    45. I'm 18 and I've been really interested in the community for a while but unfortunately I'm too broke atm with college and all to get my own BJD. Hopefully I'll be able to soon!

    46. 26. And I broke this month because I buy dolls again. Just can’t stop myself.

    47. I can't remember when I started the hobby because I explored it for several years online before purchasing my first doll, but I've recently turned twenty-one. <3

    48. I'll be 32 next month and I'm in this hobby since 2009.

    49. First caught a glimpse of bjds when I stumbled upon a Ringdoll image and seen people carrying bjds around an anime con near me at age 13. Then rediscovered and dove deeper into the bjd hobby a couple months ago, now at age 22. Got my first bjd and second bjd around the same time I started rediscovering the hobby and researching a couple months back. So I discovered bjds 9 years ago but didn't fully leap into the hobby until now at 22. c:

    50. Im 22 and its my 1 year anniv in the hobby! Wohoo~

    51. I'm 28 -- I was first interested in them when I was 15, but didn't get my first doll until my early years in college. I joined DoA back in 2008, so yeah, I'm quite old! I've taken both long and short hiatuses from the hobby since I first started getting into it, but I can't imagine ever parting with BJDs permanently.

    52. I'm 19 almost 20 and I currently have a floating head and another on the way! Getting a body for the first floating head this month too :) Been in the hobby for a few months!

    53. I’m 21 and I’ve been in the hobby since April. I’ve known about it for a while but finally got my first doll then :) I started with yosds but now I really like msds!

    54. I'm 29 (so close to 30 T_____T why) and I just ordered my first bjd last month ! I've been admiring them since i was a teenager though

    55. Wow! You're all just babies! I'm 63 & have been collecting BJDs for 12 years. I can hardly believe it. But then I've been collecting various types of dolls for 31 years this month. I've gone thru a number of changes in my BJD collection over the years. At first I only collected 1/3 dolls. Then several years ago I discovered the joys of slim minis. Right now, after a 2 year hiatus from buying any new dolls, I've become fascinated by Fairyland Little Fees. I bought a full-set Macaron Ante & am saving for Chloe. I keep saying I'm done but then another pops up.

    56. I'm 22 and I've been in the hobby for a few months, but I've admired BJDs for the last couple years. :)

    57. I'm 31 and just ordered my first bjd :dance

    58. I’m 68. Been seriously into dolls for 3 years. I haven’t been through all the pages here but I have to be one of the oldest doll collectors. I love this doll hobby! Having so much fun.

    59. I'm 30 and I have been in the hobby for four years now, and it is still fun to "play" with them <3

    60. I'm 19 now but I was 18 when I bought my first doll
