25 now! Been wanting my own bjd since middle school or high school and finally got my first one (and then a couple more...) last year!
@keelerleah over 20! (I'm not judging) Wow that's amazing how do you have space for them all, or are they small? Do you have characters and clothes and accessories for all of them?
I'm 36 and have been collecting BJDs for about...7 years? 8? but I first found out about them about 20 years ago when I first discovered Japanese visual kei.
I'm 17, turning 18 in November! I was introduced to BJDs when I was around 13 via some gorgeous pictures I found on google of someone's iplehouse (i think?) doll. To this day I still can't find that picture but I became obsessed with BJDs due to how beautiful that picture was. I was able to buy my first doll at 15 (little monica little sophia who I actually sold later...). I got my first grail (yosd myou delia) last christmas and I am just so in love with her!
I am 35 I am about 3 years in bjd, first love I saw on photo was Supia Doll Rosy, and than I found much more to adore. Now I am saving money for Irrealdoll Oli
Almost all of them are large, I only own 2 tines and one MSD. The rest are 60 to 75 cm in size and are on stands displayed all over my room. Some are volks DD (character dolls) and I've just kept them in their default outfits. The others are mostly fullsets and the rest are just styled as I please. If you're curious as to what they look like and how I have them displayed I have some photos of them posted on my BJD instagram (see link in my signature below).
Just turned 21. My mom gives me crap about wasting money on dolls. But I just her up when I mention all the money she spends on Bonsai trees.
I think I know about bjd when I was 14 and can’t afford one. Recently bought A LOT of doll, and start to joining the hobby and I’m 18 now.
I'm 63 and glad to know I'm not the only Senior here. I'm not surprised that most enthusiasts are in their teens and twenties. It's a young market that's just reached the 'Classic' stage (think cars). I suspect the hobby will only increase in popularity which is why Legit companies need to find a way to distinguish themselves (lawfully and physically) from copycats. Shaming will not stop profiteers.
I like your math, AnnaDolly! My daughter and I are also both in the hobby. We’re 53 and 23. I feel insanely lucky we share this or any hobby. I’ve always loved dolls.
I'm 22, just bought my first head and I had been looking at dolls since about 13-14, but I never did research until now.
Turned 24 this year! I've been looking at BJDs since I was in High school, and had a lot of porcelain dolls as a kid, but just now was able to purchase my first BJD!
I'm 23, and got into the hobby at age 20! Played with plenty of dolls as a kid, but didn't actually know what a ball jointed doll was until I was an adult. Which I'm glad about actually, since I wouldn't have been responsible enough to be in this hobby at a younger age!
I just turned 28 this year. I honestly really like this hobby so far because it's something that people of all ages can really enjoy. Meanwhile with Role Playing, people on certain social media sites seem to think that once someone hits around my age or older, they shouldn't be allowed to RP anymore? I dunno, it's all weird. But if you enjoy doing something, you should be allowed to do it. It's not like writing stories with a friend is harming anyone.
I'm 28 and I've been in this hobby for awhile now. Like ZOMBUNN13 said, this is nice hobby - its age range is huuuge. It really doesn't matter how old you are, everyone can enjoy.
I’m about to be twenty and I just ordered my first doll. Actually, I might be twenty by the time he arrives, but I sincerely hope he won’t take till December to arrive.
I'm 64 & have been collecting various types of dolls for over 30 years. I started on BJDs back around 2005, give or take a year. Egads! I've been collecting longer than most of you have been alive! Now I really feel old but the dolls still keep me young.
26, I discovered BJD's just over 10 years ago but took a 7 year break during that time, can't get enough of them now
I just turned 31 this year and I already feel so old. You can't believe how glad I am when I see ages like 60+ popping up. That means I have plenty more of doll-loving years to go if my disease will allow it. Loving the diversity here~ ♥
I am currently 26 and bought my first BJD earlier this year when I was 25. Although I'd like to say that I wish I had started earlier, I think the timing is just right since my current job lets me have a good chunk of spending money for dolls!
Not many of us in the 40-something set it seems... I held off buying my first bjd, other things took priority in my life... like kids, mortgage, school clothes, parents, etc. Finally seemed a good time to indulge in something for me. Really happy I finally did it.
I'm 33 I've known about the hobby since my early 20s, but funds and other life situations prevented me from ever being able to afford one. I didn't get my first doll till four years ago when my sister bought her for me for christmas! It was a complete surprise that she even remembered that I had a long-time interest in BJDs and she wanted to help me get my foot in the door. Unfortunately it wasn't until recently when I decided I finally had enough time to pursue the hobby seriously! Now I have an adorable YOSD on the way and have plans to buy two more dolls come early next year!
@LondonCherie Thank you, it's wonderful you were finally able to get your first doll as well~ I hope it was as magical a feeling as you hoped! Life can be tough, but eventually we persevere and do the things we want and love!
I'm 23 and I still don't have a doll... TT But maybe soon. I'm surprised how many people like me is active in this hobby!
I'm 21! From the outside it looked like most people in the hobby were older than me but I've since discovered a nice blend of people of all ages. I think that's really cool ^^
I turned 18 a few months ago, and have been in the hobby for about three years, though I haven't had an opportunity to do much because of my final few years of school. I'm hoping to have a lot more opportunity now that I'm finished. I want to get a lot better at sewing for my dolls.
I'm 34, and I started in the hobby when I was 28. I was interested for the year or so before but it took me a while to get up the nerve to spend that much money on a doll. Sadly I now find it all too easy to spend that much...
I will turn 39 in 11 days so don't forget to eat a cupcake for my birthday altought it is on monday or even if you have some food intolerances. Nowadays you have alternatives, have a sweet day for me! Best wishes!!
Now 23 started the interest when I was 17. Graduating this year. A lot of my friends have quitted the hobby after they started working and getting married. I wish I will not be that
26! been into bjds since i was around 14 but still don't have my first doll unfortunately. but i like that my interest in them hasn't waned at all in 12 years despite not having one. makes me hopeful that once i finally get one, i'll stick in the hobby for a long time. or it could go completely south and the thrill for me could be about the allure of them rather than actually owning one lmao
