How Old Are You (continued... 2)

Feb 15, 2018

    1. 30 now, 13 years in the hobby off & on. This hobby is my escape. Expensive. But well worth the price of seeing an original character come to life.

    2. Thank Heavens! I'm 71 too. Now i don't feel so alone. Boy, this is a young crowd! (Enjoy it! Time flies.)

    3. I’m 18 and hoping to get my first doll soon :thumbup

    4. Almost 20 years old. I have been interested in this hobby since I was 13, but I could not afford a doll until I became an adult. :3nodding:

    5. 22! I got my first bjd at age 20 but have been doll-obsessed since I was a child lmao

    6. turned 21 a few months ago! always wanted a BJD since age 10 and finally got one at 19! :D

    7. I’ll be 30 next month. I’ve been involved in the hobby on and off since I was 14 and got my first bjd for my 15th birthday.

    8. Turning 21 this year!! I just got my first doll last year but I’ve but I’ve admired from afar (Instagram and YouTube) for years haha

    9. 24! It's cool to see that there's a big age range in this hobby

    10. Just turned 27 few weeks ago. I had been in the hobby for a while but got the first doll two years go.

    11. I'm 33 and I got into the hobby sometime in college then left for maybe 9 or so years? I am freshly back this year.

    12. I don't mind admitting again that I am OLD! I'm 72 now. Doll collecting is not just for the under 30 crowd :D The nice thing about being an older collector, is that I don't have to get my parents' approval or ask for money for dolls. That must be hard. But when I WAS young and still lived with my parents, they supported my various choices of hobbies. Back then I was into dollhouses. My parents thought it was really cool.

    13. 33 married with two kids

    14. 26!
      :sumomo:
It took about 10 years from initial interest to finally starting collecting but here I am!

    15. I am 27 at this time, but I got my doll 2 years ago when I was 25. So far she is the only one, but I'd like to get another one here soon.

    16. I'll give my standard answer of; 25 + shipping and handling...

    19. I'm 57. :3nodding:
I allways loved dolls, but collecting them started around 2004. I added fashion dolls in 2010 and my first BJD found me in December 2014.

    20. I just turned 58.

    21. I’m 24:lol: I just got my first BJD this summer, but have been collecting doll for… almost 18 years now? I started when I was 6 and never stopped. And yes, the majority of my dolls survived to this day

    22. I'm 49 years old and have been in the hobby for 12 years. ^_^

    23. 30 years old with a 15 year interest in BJDs. I'm happy I finally get the chance to join in on the fun!

    24. 32! Love seeing the wide range of ages here.

      • x 1
    25. Seeing so many 30+ people here makes me feel a bit better being in the hobby. I'm in quite a few hobbies that seem to skew towards younger crowds and kinda feel like an old granny when I'm not even 40 yet. lol

      • x 3
    26. i feel this. and i wonder if it’s bc BJDs can be cost-prohibitive and there’s more disposable income at this age

      • x 3
    27. 32 here. Took initial interest sometime in my early to mid-20s, but had no desire and definitely no spare funds to collect dolls back then. Considering average price of a legit BJD I’d say cost-prohibition is a serious factor in me starting in this hobby in my 30s. I am really grateful that I can allow myself to buy dolls (for now at least!).

    28. Wow Im glad to see such a range of age!
34 going on 35. Sat on the idea of getting a doll for 20 years before actually getting one. Commitment issues? Yup!

    29. I’m 30 now, but I was around 15 when I first got into the hobby!

    30. I'd say definitely! I first got interested in BJDs in high school, but I didn't have the funds to buy one. I ordered my first doll this month, and I'm 31 now. It's been an enduring desire. :XD:

    31. 36 - I been interested in them since I was 17-18 and got my first full doll (a hybrid of AiL and an old Hypermaniac bod) when I was 26 XD

    32. 31 now!

    33. I first saw bjds on deviantart when I was a teenager aaall the way back in 2006 and now I'm 33. :) I got into them around 22, so it's been a little over a decade.

    34. I'm 32 years old, I started collecting when I was 18!:aeyepop:

    35. I just turned 23 a few days ago, but I began collecting BJDs when I was 15.

    36. I'm 38. I got my first BJD in 2009 when I was 25 and going through a really tough spell in life. Most of the years between have been spent on doll hiatus, but I'm back now and enjoying my dolls more than ever.

Funnily enough, now that I'm older I have more confidence to do doll customizing things, and more adventurous photography. I've started learning faceups, and hopefully soon will learn how to sew and make props -- all things I didn't have the self-confidence to do when I first got in the hobby. Getting older has some advantages that way... XD

    37. I'm 23. I've always gravitated towards hobbies with an older crowd (not that 30s/40s are old, they're just older than most people on social media) and feel like having a good spread of ages helps keep the community from spiraling in ways that I've seen with hobbies/interests that skew very young like video games or streaming

    38. Im currently 19 and am quite surprised how many people are close to my age in the hobby aswell its so wide and diverse thats why im so drawn to it i think

    39. 26 and I just got my first doll 2 weeks ago :)

    40. I'm 32, will be 33 next month. I joined the hobby sometime in 2012 and received my first doll in 2013. Around 2016/17 I went on a "hobby hiatus" and just recently got back on the forums. I was 22/23 when I joined the hobby and got my first doll.

The only reason I had money to buy my first dolls was because I was in college and had grant money and worked on campus. So whatever I didn't use for classes went towards dolls when I got my refunds :XD: I haven't gotten a new doll since then (:pout:

    41. I'm 19, although I got my first doll when I was 13 or 14? And I had an interest in the hobby when I was 8 or 9 and stumbled across Pullip+Dollfie Dream hybrids. Now my dolls outnumber my age *_*

    42. i’m 20 and i got into the hobby about 7-8 years ago! i always get told this is a weird interest of mine(to the point i left not too long ago) but i’m finally reclaiming what i enjoy!!

    43. I was fourteen when I got my first doll and I’m currently 26! I’ve never truly been out of the hobby but it’s just been a lower priority hyperfixation.

    44. First doll at 18. I'm 27 now. It's weird to think it's almost been a decade now...

    45. I just turned 30 last month, have been collecting dolls of various types as long as I can remember.

    46. I’m 27! I first started enjoying bjds in full at around 15 when I realized what art they could be.

    47. I'm 35! Been part of the hobby (with a few small breaks here and there) since 2006. I still remember the first time I saw one - was at Otakon '06 and had to stop someone walking around with their doll to ask about it. I thought it was so cool! The customization of the dolls is definitely what's kept me interested all these years.

    48. Same.

I'm 35, started in the hobby around 2006. I saw some girls having their BJDs to the Salón del Manga (comicon in Barcelona) and felt in love with them. I loved that some dolls were wearing casual clothing and they look very realistic and big (the girls had SD sized dolls)

Did a lot of research back then and joined a few forums. Bought my first doll after a lot of time thinking if it'll be worth it...
Had some breaks during my life too but hey, I'm still here!
      :)

    49. I'm 25! I sometimes feel like the non-doll-liking people in my life think of old ladies and porcelain baby dolls when they hear I like dolls. Nothing wrong with either of those things, of course, just not exactly what I'm into with BJD's haha. So finding a lot of people online around my age into dolls is fun :)

    50. I'm 20 later this month, and bought my first doll last month!

    51. I'm 30, got my first bjds about 5 (?) years ago. I think part of it is the ability to pay for a hobby like this and how widespread these kinds of dolls are now around the world with the internet and other modern communication. So they're probably more popular and accessible for younger generations than for older generations (though I'm certainly not saying older folks don't love them too! And they're more likely to be stable in whatever socioeconomic bracket they landed in, so if it's a decent one they're more likely to then be able to spend the money on an expensive hobby).

Not to mention, a lot of us 20-30 year olds got into them in high school and just couldn't buy them, but now we can so we're frickin' gonna. (Also also, not to be a downer, but I am an optimistic nihilist. If I can't afford to buy a house I'm damn well gonna buy other things that make me happy because lord knows money won't... besides, of course, the ability to obtain things I need and want.)

    52. It's so nice to see how diverse the ages are in the hobby. I'm 34 now, and only just recently got my 2nd and 3rd dolls. My first doll I got in my mid 20s, but I've been interested since I was in middle school. It may be a bit on the higher cost side of hobbies, but I really love how this hobby has no age <3

    55. I'm 38, I first heard about BJD when I was 21, and I bought my first doll a year later :) Than I had 16 years break from the hobby. An now I'm back! XD

    56. I am 50. I have loved dolls since I was about 5 but never heard about BJD until about five years ago. But I was able to get my first BJD last year . It takes me forever to choose but I'm already looking for another one.

    57. I will be 23 in this June!

    58. I'm fast approaching 60. Knew about existence of dolls for a long time, mostly from Russian sources. Didn't know how owner customisable they could be. So while I saw them as marvellous but static pieces of art I admired them from a distance but now when I know I myself can make them any way I want then yes, I want a doll of my own, hands tingling from desire to work on it. I already know what I want, just saving up.

    59. I am 30! I fell in love with BJDs back in 2004/2005 when i was around 13, and would periodically see them and wish but I only started collecting in 2021. It was sort of full circle, and seemed like a natural transition of my hobbies (painting, sewing, miniatures, sculpting) to come back to the hobby now that I had disposable income and relevant skills.

    60. I'm turning thirty-three later this year and I joined the hobby when I was 18! It's crazy how quickly time has gone. I've been out of the hobby for the past 6 or 7 years due to health reasons but I'm trying to get back into it again. Going to downsize my collection and shift from SDs to maybe MSDs or YOSDs since they'll be easier for me to manage now.
