How often do you change your dolls' outfits?

May 9, 2017

    1. How often do you change your dolls' outfits? Every day, or seasonally, or so on?
I usually have one or two exclusive outfits for each doll that they stay in, with maybe small changes in accessorizing or so on. Do you have a lot of clothes for your dolls? Do you like your dolls to 'get dressed' for the day with you? I hope to one day have several outfits for a Minifee so she can get dressed alongside me, so we can both be ready for the day! If you are a photographer, do you change clothes for every photo shoot?

      Feel free to share pictures!

    2. I am like you, most of my dolls have one or two outfits that fit their character or were made specifically for them and that`s it. Sometimes for photoshoots I change their clothes to have a little difference in the pictures but on a daily basis it would stress me too much. It is already hard to find clothes for myself every day xD

    3. I have quite a lot of doll clothes, but feel like each doll has only two or three real outfits; some are a little more spoiled than others.
When you own a certain amount of dolls it will end up looking like a lot no matter what.
Have fifteen dolls, give each a pair of pants, boom...you have fifteen doll pants :sweat
I usually re-dress a doll whenever I get a new piece/outfit for them, else I am mostly content with leaving them in a certain outfit for a longer time.
Most of the outfits are also pretty big with several pieces (i.e. not just pants and shirts), which also means expensive sadly, so I prefer to have them in an outfit for a while to make it worth it.

In case of photoshoots I dress them accordingly.
Of course they might wear the same piece more than once, but I always aim for a fitting one for every shooting.
I don't take pictures often though, and when I do it's for a bigger planned shooting, the outfit is usually part of the planning.

    4. I change them at least once each season (winter, spring, summer and autumn) and I also change them whenever I feel like it.
I have only 3 dolls that wear proper clothing (anthro ones only wear one thing that it's permanent) so it is easy for me.

    5. Most of my dolls have one complete signature look - one outfit, a pair shoes and a couple of different accessories that can be switched around for different looks, like hats, belts, or scarfs and jewellery. Some are more spoilt and have 2 or 3 looks, but even then i'm content to only change them occasionally. They aren't people and I don't want to feel pressured to change them everyday. I find that when I really love a clothing piece, I don't ever really get tired of seeing it worn anyway. i'm a bit jealous of dolls in that regard - I can't help but feel sad thinking of some of the lovely unique clothing pieces i've owned and loved over the years but have had had throw away due to wear and tear/ weight gain/ loss - I would have loved to have gone on wearing them forever if I could! Dolls at least never have that problem.

    6. I always take photoshoots for my doll, But i don't have a lot of clothes. The best is to change her/his outfits constantly, especially if you want to take photos. We all know that the doll clothes are quite expensive, so change a new outfit per day maybe difficult.(I have 4 or 5 outfits and some accessories per doll, I think that i will present them more and more sets, but everything should be done little by little >w<)

    7. I see a lot of people have one or two outfits and it makes sense to me if I had a character doll. But I don’t. I really much rather have only one or two dolls and a box full of outfits/wigs/eyes to change up their look. It’s a lot easier and cheaper to buy and store a bunch of outfits than display a lot of dolls. You can have a really nice outfit for less than $100, wigs/eyes/shoes for another $100 if you buy used?

Currently I probably have about eight 3-4 piece outfits for my SD size doll. I change it weekly or so. She’s got a lot of fantasy outfits as well as some casual stuff and a bunch of wigs and eyes. I’m pretty happy with this. :)

FL Rin wearing Volks marine set and a casual outfit. I really need to take more pictures, if anything just to catalogue what I have for her. I'm really loving Volks outfits lately. :3nodding:

    8. I sew, so I have quite a few separate outfit pieces already... And will doubtless have more by summer's end, once I have consistent access to a sewing machine! Therefore, I tend to change my girl's outfits pretty often, because I love playing dress up with her. (Although she may get a break once my second doll arrives. She'll probably be pretty relieved. XD)

    9. I generally only change my dolls' clothes when they get a new outfit or I want something specific for pictures. Ilya's outfit is reaaaally hard to get on and off, so it stays put (plus finding normal clothes for his massive hips is a pain anyway). Toshi has a specific style he wears, traditional Japanese outfits, and as of right now I only have one of those; the hakama and under-kimono are pretty standard, but I'm hoping to get him a few more haori and some fancier kimono and yukata eventually. I still probably won't change his clothes too much though.

Aelic is really the only doll whose clothes I change fairly frequently, because I shop for him the most. He has a super cute style and his body is easy to dress, plus I've had him the longest and therefore have the most clothes for him. I do tend to keep him in his most recent outfit though, unless I'm taking specific pictures (or if Toshi is borrowing his body).

    10. I try to keep a good variety of clothes for my dolls. This means at minimum, 5 shirts, 3 bottoms, 2 pairs of shoes to mix and match, but most have quite a bit more than that. How often I change them...really varies. The favorites tend to get changed at least once every week or so, the others, maybe every 2-3 months, but it depends on how much I'm photographing them. I do try to change them regularly if I'm taking frequent pix.

    11. I only really change them for photos, afterwards they go back to their "default" outfit ;p Sometimes I switch things out if I'm in the mood to redress them, but otherwise I don't really bother with it too much because it's such a pain to redress them sometimes.

    12. I have mainly boys, so all I have to do is change their shirts. The few girls I have get changed if they are going to be photographed. I am planning to cut down my collection, so those that stay will be because they are in the stories I create.

    13. Heheheh, not often enough. One day I will stop buying dolls and actually buy different outfits/accessories for the ones I already own.

      One day....

    14. I have a fair amount of clothes for my dolls, but I'm lazy, so they often don't get changed for years... and I've had outfits that have never been worn for years and years.

I usually change doll clothes when I'm going to a con or a meet... often change to match a theme. Or to just look good with each other. I will also change for photoshoots, but will need complete outfits--with all accessories and props... and that can take time. Not to mention that I'm lazy, so getting photoshoots done can also take years... :doh

I wish I could change dolls for the seasons and holidays, but I totally fail at that.

    15. I'm lazy but I change my boys clothes about every 3 to 4 weeks. Some of them have more clothing then others especially my Dollshe Knucci twins & my 2 Iplehouse HID guys do as well.

    16. Most of my fantasy dolls only have one outfit, but I do have a handful of dolls that have a larger wardrobe. The nice thing is that my guys can wear the same thing for the most part, so I have no trouble swapping their outfits.

    17. I rarely change the outfits since i find it to be quite a hassle. Girls get outfit changes more than boys do because skirt/dresses>pants :P

    18. My favourites tend to get more frequent outfit changes :'D Even then it's not that often... Maybe every 3-4 months, and even then it's only a few that get changed at a time. My girls get changed more often than my boys because I buy them more clothes /'D My MSD boys have been in the same outfits for close to a year now;;;
When they get new clothes there's usually a clothing shuffle, same thing happens when I manage to go to a local meet. My dolls don't have specific outfits for themselves, but most of them have a particular style they'll stick with. I usually mix and match things until I find a combination I like on them ^^

    19. I'm a sucker for doll clothes, especially the fantasy ones. I changed my dolls look all the time, at least once per month. It's a plus to recycle outfits, I mixed and match some of the outfits too.

    20. I usually put my dolls on display, so I'll change them whenever I got bored of their outfits :p my doll family has a set of matching outfit for each member so it's a big change since I have to change ALL members of my doll family...I would say once every 2 months!

    21. Alex has been sat in a kimono for about 2yrs. He recently changed into a full outfit of a turtleneck, harem pants, and boots for a week...then went back to his kimono yesterday. I guess his kimono is his house outfit; a dressing robe he relaxes in. But, he does look good in it.

I used to change his clothes weekly, but most of those clothes have been sold on now. I plan on replacing them at some point; not all of them, but enough so there can be numerous combos.

    22. Most of my dolls have a "favourite" or default outfit that they gravitate back to but lots of other outfits too, both shared and specific to each doll... I change them for meets (especially themed meets) and other events - try to have them in something suitable for the season, and/or whenver I feel in the mood for some doll play, when I've made them something new, or whe I've used them as a fittign model so they're already out of the outfit they were wearing....but am conscious that some of them stay in the same outfit for an awfully long time at a stretch.

Most of the really tiny ones don't have a large rage of clothing. I don't like sewing for very small dolls, so their wardrobes are restricted to whatever I've bought them.

      Teddy

    23. I've been collecting for over a decade now and have a good-sized collection. They remain constantly on display throughout my home in various groupings. Each doll has their own style and access to a complete wardrobe (at least 4 outfits each for my SDs, MSDs and certain tinies.) The only ones who might share clothing is my genie twins or my fairy sisters...I suppose because they're biologically related, and those dolls have even larger wardrobes. It's a good thing I can sew or I'd constantly be broke!:sweat I like to change each of their outfits about once a month to keep their looks fresh.

    24. I dont change mine often unless I am working on a photo shoot. Usually the boys chill in just pants and the girls in their bras and undies. When I dress them up I just end up stripping them back down again. I just my dolls just like chilling half nude.
Dolls I dont handle much dont usually change their clothes once I get them styled how I like.

    25. I change my daughter's clothes almost everyday. i was tempted to change her into pyjamas when we go to sleep, but the effort and time to do it is killing me on everyday basis.

    26. So far, my boy only has a set of pajamas and one daywear outfit. I'm working on it, though! I'm definitely the kind of person who wants to change his clothes often. I'm not into changing wigs and eyes, though. I feel like once I find the right pair of eyes for him, he'll keep them forever. With different eyes he wouldn't look like himself, I'm afraid.

As for wigs, I feel like I'll probably change it very infrequently. Maybe after a couple of years I'll get bored. I don't know. But I found the perfect one, so I'm very in love with it right now.

    27. Some of my dolls are changed every few months or so, and some of my dolls have been in the same clothes for at least a year. A few don't have many have options, so that's part of the issue. The smaller ones are also easier and quicker to change.

    28. All my dolls are my original characters, so the style of their clothes depends on the setting of the story. Plus, I have them colour-coded, so according to their outfits, it's Mr. Brown, Mr. Black, Mr. Gray, Ms. Amaranth, Mr.White and (hopefully) upcoming Ms. Cerulean.

That being said, because of their default colours, they usually tend to have just one or two outfits they are permanently stuck in. When doing a photoshoot, I try to mix different peices together or at least add a bit different accessories to create an illusion of a large wardrobe :D

    29. With me, it varies from doll to doll. Some get their outfits changed every few days (rotating through their wardrobe, of course) and others hardly ever change their outfits. I do like to dress them seasonally, and many of them have at least a winter sweater and a warm-weather top or dress.

    30. i just change it up when i get bored of what they are wearing, they don't normally have their own outfits but there some characters have a specific style of clothes that coincidentally no other doll wears. i don't do seasonal, just what makes me happy that they are wearing :)

    31. It depends on the individual doll over here. Some of them (Sjhan, for instance-) have "One True Outfit" that suits them so well they never wear anything else. Others (Ophelia and Tien Jen, I'm looking at you two... <_<) seem to end up in a different outfit every other day. Most get switched every month or so, because I'm paranoid about stains.

    32. I only change mine rarely. The dolls mostly just sit around looking pretty, I don't tend to do too much with them.

The only time really is if I want to photograph them in something different.

Or if I've bought them clothes that they have never worn. I figure that changing them means I haven't just wasted my money. That can take months to get around to doing though.

    33. Well, my plan is to eventually have 4-5 outfits for each doll but... I'm not there yet. As I'm still shelling key characters from my stories, accessories aren't a priority. Many of them only have one outfit, or are in ill-fitting clothes. Luckily, my wishlist is slowly dwindling, so I'll be able to take care of their clothing options soon. After I have all the dolls and a greater number of outfits, I can see myself changing their clothes fairly often. For the ones who have the option now, I'd say I change them once every month or two.

    34. I love sewing, so my dolls have a lot going on. I honestly think that being able to make things for them is my favorite part of having them at all...

    35. I am the exactly like @Foxbright and sew for my little lady, she seems to in a new item every weekend!

    36. Not nearly as much as I'd want to as I have almost no $$ to buy clothes and I can't sew to save my own life so...

    37. often every mounth. But not all dolls.
Often my MSD, get a change outfit ^^

    38. Almost never. I am extremely pick about what my dolls wear, so a lot of them have been sitting around in very basic, boring clothing (simple pants/shirt combo) as I hunt around for what I consider their "true outfit". Some of them have been waiting for their true outfit for YEARS. In the past I tried purchasing a few cheaper, cute but not 100% perfect pieces, and I was never happy with them, so I've since discarded that practice. Now I wait it out, until I absolutely KNOW what will work. I'm not very good at pulling coordinates together, so I typically seek out full-set outfits which also limits my choices.

    39. I change my dolls outfits, generally, when the ones they are wearing aren't inspiring me anymore.

    40. I use to change them for summer and winter, now I kind of got lazy and change them once a year rotating their summer cloths. I should prolly buy more clothes and change them more often. That will me my goal for the rest of this year and starting next year.

    41. I don't have a ton of doll clothes, so it's not that often that my girl sees a change.
Most of the time, I tend to change her outfits or toy around with her clothes when I've had a stressful day and need something to calm my mind down.
Or, I'm just really tired of seeing her in a certain outfit.

She could honestly go about a month in the same outfit before I change it though

    42. For my dolls, I have a main outfit and several other ones. When I get tired of the main, I swap out for a week or so and then realize how much I loved the original and switch back XD

    43. My oldest doll was an only doll for 4 years, and you know how only children are, he has about 2 - 3 dozen outfits, the others have 2 - 10 outfits. My dolls are bald nudists that live in their original boxes inside a closet, so that they do not yellow. About once a month I get one out and sew it a new outfit, I am part of a good sized doll group, we meet every couple of months, and I always want the dolls I take along to have a new outfit each time. I am a very experienced seamstress, and doll costumes are my favorite art form. Sewing for my dolls is how I play with them.

    44. I've had dolls that have worn the same outfit for the entire time I owned them! But most of them, I try to change with the seasons. When the weather gets hot, there's just something uncomfortable about seeing my dolls in long-sleeved shirts.

    45. I don't have any bjds, but I definitely plan on changing her clothing. And, on christmas, I plan on changing them to a more holiday theme.

I also plan on taking a lot of photos.

    46. I have three big boxes of doll clothes! And for each photo shoot I pick out a new look for a doll so that pictures won’t seem to be taken within one day))

    47. I'm still assembling my doll wardrobe (though I have a lot of accessories >_<) but I try to change Annix's clothes with the seasons. He's got one "warm weather" outfit, a middle ground outfit which is his default and then some fall jackets and winter sweaters. I don't like to change him more often than that because he's a little floppy, but I do give him different accessories in his photoshoots.

    48. I store my dolls naked and bald in their boxes, as I have active young cats who like to steal wigs and chew doll hands. I sew for the dolls continually. so I change their clothes pretty much every time I get them out, as sewing for them is how I play with them...but they go right back in the box, sans costume when I am done with them each day.

      • x 1
    49. I sew something new almost every week for her. Sewing is the reason I wanted a doll and so far it's so much fun!

      • x 1
    50. If I love an outfit it can stay on a doll permanently. I am particular about clothes so it can take a while to find what I want for a doll and they can sit around nude for a long time or be wearing just a corset and stockings.

    51. I have 2 doll bodies now and I change them around once every one or two weeks. Sometimes when I'm lazy I just lift up their clothes to check whether there are any stains, if it's ok I'll just leave it on for a while more

    52. I change clothes whenever I feel like it. I get bored quite easily, so maybe once a month.

    53. Each of my doll owns 1-2 sets, one set is default and the other is casual. The default look is on most of the time but when I am in the mood to change, I would switch to casual. Hahaha I am a moody dresser myself :)

    54. Pretty much... never? None of my dolls really wear casual clothes, I prefer sort of "iconic character" looks. I usually keep adding more detail to a single outfit with layers and accessories, instead of creating multiple outfits per doll.

    55. I change their clothes two to three times a year. It depends who I have out the most. Everyone is rotated around every four months.

    56. Some dolls get changed every month and some others stay with an outfit set for 2 years, because I really like it on her ^^;
Volks My F-54 and Saki get their outfit change often!

    57. Not very often. Just change doll's cloths for photoshoot :XD:

    58. I change the outfits on my dolls quite often really. They usually don't sit in the same one for more than a week; which means my boy swaps between his leggings and shorts because that's what he likes/has at the moment, but my girl is constantly being changed because I have her out more to work on clothing projects.

:sweat Last night I redressed her into a long shirt/dress combo with some jean leggings, socks, and shoes because I had planned on taking her with to get craft supplies tomorrow. She couldn't very well go out in her underwear~ XD

    59. My dolls pretty much only have one outfit each, so I don't really change their outfits haha

    60. some times seasonally or just when i bought them new clothing XD
