How many of the same molds will you get?

Jul 6, 2011

    1. I've decided I kinda want an army of Dearmine Picassos... is an army too many?

    2. I currently have 4 Doll Zone Hids who are all different (except for one who I've kept as close to fullset default as possible) and I would absolutely get more if I could. I'm very picky about which body they're on but I would definitely have an army of them.
And also Soom Heliot. I would absolutely also have an army of him too. I currently have 2, one the open eyed head and the other the unicorn romantic head.

    3. The only duplicate sculpt I would ever buy would be a Dream of Doll Ducan which is one of my all time favourite bjds ever, I have one but wouldnt say no to owning another.

    4. I have two same molds now and I want to have more! I feel like I could have as many as possible, but actually I guess two or three should be enough.
I usually don’t give them completely different identities. I give them same identity but in different universe. (Like AU?) But I was actually thinking nowadays maybe I should give them two different identities. It might be helpful for loving them equally..

    5. I would be willing to own up to two of the same mold, but they have to be in a different color or have to be a variant version of the mold. Like I own a Dreaming version of CP Delf Moon, but I wouldn't mind owning a regular CP Delf Moon in NS.

    6. Welll... right now I have 2 ingenues that are the same girl (a makeup look and a no makeup look), and then another ingenue (Azrael) and another one (Eve) and then I have one as a one of my 'Syncarnations'--a previous incarnation of a character, who has 6 other heads for he past lives, and I'm considering one for another... I have a weakness for ingenues (and also gamine...)

    7. i really like dragin so i might get 3 she is a dragon one in pure pink 2 in black n white

    8. I've never owned multiple of the same doll sculpt at once until now...in my desperation of looking for a minifee vampire shiwoo head...i ended up with a full minifee shiwoo, a sleeping head AND the minifee shiwoo vampire I was originally looking for. So now I own triplets..,theres only one body between them though.

    9. I have 2 twin dolls being made. But unless I decide to do like a twin triplet thing maybe never.

    10. I never thought I'd be one of the people with the same sculpt, but I'm totally in love with Dollshe Bernard. I have one of him in 70cm form, one in fashion size, and I believe I have two more faceplates of him that I especially ordered cuz I was worried about damaging his face. He's also the one that I experiment around a lot and currently is in the middle of a faceup.

    11. Personally I would never get more than one of a sculpt, unless I wanted to shell two characters who are identical twins. I totally understand why some people get multiples of the same sculpt, it's just that there are so, so many beautiful sculpts out there that I want and I would rather get one more new sculpt than a duplicate one.

    12. I don't mind owning more of one sculpt - but I can only justify it if they are different resin colors

    13. I have two Volks F-17 boys, and I would love to have more. Really, any of the Cecile or F-17 heads would do. There’s just something so handsome about the sculpt to me. The two I have are different versions of Link, so there’s always room for more. The Sd17 version and the boyhood version Cecile would be dreams to have.

    14. I don't think I'd be able to treat the dolls as different characters if they had the same face sculpt. I'd definitly get multiples of the same body, but I couldn't do the same face sculpt personally. Even if I was doing twins, I'd do similar sculpts by the same company/artist, but I couldn't justify to myself buying the same doll twice.

    15. In cases of identical twins, or like clone characters I feel having more then one of the same mold works great and is justifiable.
One of my first male dolls was a clone, I got a second doll of the same mold later to be his "DNA donner".
Normally if I end up with two of the same mold it was a plan to make a set of twins or like the case of my favorite clone character.

However I have an couple of odd cases of technically same mold/sculpt very unrelated characters. Most of those are FairyLand dolls as FL likes to make the same mold in different sizes. (or with different expressions. Also as say elf version and human version) I have Erda and Alan in both Feeple and and MNF sizes and in those cases the dolls are very different characters. Heck even my Alan scowling faces are different and unrelated characters to my default faced Alans in their respective sizes. Sometimes face up and/or hair and eye choices can really change a doll for me. /shrug

    16. There are some dolls I'd love to have the various versions of, like the old Luts CP Delfs and some of the Dollshe boys. I also wouldn't mind having Fairyland Ante in all sizes (only have LittleFee). I do have different versions of some sculpts, but usually try not to have multiples of the same version. Except, I have two Volks Ayumu (they're twins) and two Dollshe SA Hound (they're not twins lol).

    17. Maybe one body or one head? But never the same duplicate doll. I would if I had more money but since I don’t I would just prefer to buy different kinds!

    18. I used to say 'never two of the same mold', but that's just another rule I broke. I have a Granado Ninth at home, and I've just ordered a second head... Though since they're in different resin colour, and the second one is for a hybrid, it will still definitely feel like a pretty different doll.

    19. The rule Tagath mentioned was one of mine too...until I bought the doll of a friend. I bought once the Dollfamilyh Lin Feng in MSD cause she wanted the head and it was an event that if you buy a doll you will get the head again. So I bought my Yo and she got the head, after years she wanted to sell the doll and I thought: "Okay, I will take him." Now he is my Masaomi. That was the first time I got the Lin Feng head twice. Then I got the twins Yoru and Hiru the Luts Yuz mold. Now I will get the DF-h head again cause I will, not really reshell Masaomi. I want him as an SD too. So it's the third Lin Feng head. XD

    20. I like having two of the same sculpt for twins.. preferable having different colours.:whee:

    21. If I especially love the head sculpt then an extra (or more) of the same sculpt would be welcome! There's just so many possibilities with exploring different faceups and customisations. Even with the same sculpt, the extra could be a different facial expression, an AU option or a cosplay option. Or even twins or a completely different character! :love

    22. I prefer to have only one head for one molds, but nowadays I bought same heads. I’ve never bought three same molds, and I’m trying to not to collect more than two same heads.

    23. I would eventually like a Doll Chateau Bella with an artist's face-up. I would like her make-up to be natural with freckles. I currently have Bella 2. This is the only sculpt thus far I'd like two of

    24. I just bought my fourth KDF Aengdu this month :sweat. She's the sculpt that made me get into the hobby (even if she wasn't my first doll) and she's the only one I have multiples of. Unless I count a damaged head where I got a new replacement head because I feel that's a bit of a different situation.

Other grails I already own have come up secondhand but I have always managed to resist getting a double.

    25. I think I have a favorite sculpt. :sweat It's Fairyland's minifee Dina. I bought her as a fullset but picked up a floating head to be another character. Now I want to get her in tan as well! That would be 3 open eyed Dina's and 2 sleeping if I end placing another order one day :evilplot:

    26. Well from experience I bought 4 of the same face sculpt in different resin colors. It was a face sculpt that had almost all the facial features i wanted. He has mono lidded eyes, medium nose size, medium nose bridge, and medium to thick lips (not too thick that it looks like that filler look). It would have been nice if his cheek bones were a little bit stronger. Overall he has a soft face, but not too soft.

If the doll company has many concepts and face ups i like, but I only like a few face sculpts i will just keep buying my favorite face sculpts. For example, I love peakswoods concepts and face ups, but only like about 2 to 4 of their female face sculpts. For the males I only like about 3 of their face sculpts.

For a discontinued face sculpt I might buy about 4 with different colors. This only happened to me once it was a female who I planned to get later, but I learned she would be discontinued. That's how I ended up buying 4 of her. After that it got easier to buy multiples of a face sculpt that I really liked. Before I wouldn't have bought the same face sculpt because I thought it was a waste of money to buy the same face when I could get a new face sculpt.

    27. I have two of the same sculpt but in different resin colors. I was super close to buying a third in another resin color as well but I think two of one sculpt is enough for me. I would consider more if maybe the sculpt was slightly different on each? Like if I had a sleeping head and an awake head, or had one slightly modded to make it a little different. Tonocha modded an Erda head for a set of Erda twins and it looked so good, they looked like identical twins but one was just enough different to make him unique

    28. I don't own multiples of the same mold since I don't have a lot of space, but I do own one copy of a DF-A Max, and I love the sculpt so much I have considered buying multiples (unfortunately I can't get any more SDs). There are also many Luts sculpts that are incredibly versatile and inspire me, but I want to specifically mention the SDF and MDF Bliss. I would buy a bunch if I could.

    29. Owning multiples of the same sculpt is not something that generally appeals to me when there are so many cool different dolls I could have, but never say never. I think repeats are interesting and appealing with a concept that works for me. And in some cases, like with a favorite anthro mold, I could see having duplicates just to have a look alike companion and customize them really differently.
But anyway, I mostly prefer variety and know that I don't tend to use option heads as extras for one Character.

    30. I always feel better having one or more duplicate of things i really really like (and that are fragile) so just for that having more than one of the same sculpt feels like something i'd do.
More than that the idea of having different face-ups for different emotions / periods of the life of the shelled characters feels super appealling to me ! it adds other dimensions to stories.

    31. Had to log into Iplehouse to count all the resin colors they offer in Doll Choice.

      The answer is seven.
One day, I want seven Iplehouse nSID/nYID Maris - one in each resin color they offer.
Yes, I love this sculpt and am slightly obsessed.

    32. I prefer having variety in heads and bodies and always thought I'd have no doubles... and while not exact twins, I have ended up with two dolls on the Unoa Sist side of things. I am planning to get some more faceplates for them so I think I'll soon end up with exact doubles, too :sweat it was never meant to happen but they have both grown on me and I kind of enjoy the twin trope as well with them so I can't be mad.

    33. I have two sculpts I own more than one of. I have a Fairyland Littlefee and a Pukipuki who are both the Pipi sculpt because I adore the face shape, the nose, the eyes, the mouth. It's just too cute.
I also have two Fairyland Minifee Mirwens, because I love the stronger features and brow corners. One's a girl, and one's a boy.

    34. One in the sense that I'd want to stick to one sculpt per character since that's like their bone structure, but I have thought about getting more than one of the same heads for the same character and just painting them differently for different looks. Especially if there are little variations in the heads (ex. normal and then sleeping, romantic, smirking, etc...)
Some day I want a big hot villian 70cm clown boy LOL, and so it would be cool to have two heads for him with and without the clown makeup!

    35. One, although I do have a Carter open eyes and a YoCarter winking.
I like different dolls, because each character of mine looks different.
If I was ever going to make twins I would consider getting two of the same doll.

    36. At one point I had 3 Minifee Chloe’s.

    37. It depends how much the sculpt is loved, but also depends on the kind of doll. For instance: Volks Dollfie Dreams. Some of the heads are only for MDD, and I’m not really a fan of the ones with circle eye-holes, I prefer the maturish looking eyes. This has led to me repeatedly buying DDH-09 heads for my vinyl dolls.

I’m also a sucker for identical twins so if I really connect with a sculpt I will want 2 instead of 1. This is usually the case with resin bjds.

    38. I would love to have twins one day, but I can't bear the thought of two completely identical heads. For me personally there has to be some difference, like completely different skin tones, or one dreaming head and one with open eyes, or one human and one elf/vampire, that sort of thing. The more differences the better :thumbup Right now I was thinking of getting two mnf Hwayu, a vampire in normal or white skin and a human in tan, on two different bodies, but that's a very vague plan.

    39. I have Fairyland Ante in Littlefee, two Pukifee in different resin colors, and a Pukipuki on order. I also have Lati Yellow Hana in two resin colors.

    40. if i love a sculpt a lot, i'd at most get two! i enjoy having different sculpts with distinctive styles unique to the doll, but honestly i would love a darker supia doll esther and a paler one..i just love her sculpt so much

    41. I have two of the same doll, but in different resin colors (very dark brown and light). It’s still one of my favorite dolls I’ve ever seen (Metis Doll Becky), and I’ve never considered multiple dolls of the same mold otherwise. Most of mine are on the more expensive side and there are many more I’d like to have, so doubles would keep me from fulfilling my wish list.

I also have four dolls who have both a sleeping head and a regular open-eyes head, that I love and I wish was an option for more dolls.

    42. I probably wouldn’t get more than one of the same sculpt in the same size but I’m more than willing to get a sculpt I love in multiple sizes. I’ve even considered certain dolls because they look like sculpts I like in a different size.

For the same size I may go for two because I have a sleeping head for one of my girls I’m unlikely to use as a sleeping head so thinking of modding her eyes open and making them sisters. Otherwise I’d rather have multiple different sculpts I like than a lot of the same although I have a type.

    43. I definitely still want more Chris/Lucas after owning one ^^; And along with that the F-28/F-16 would be great too! I just love that face and wanna have different dolls to play around with different looks!

    44. I don't have any "twins" but I would love to have 2 Lusion dell and create a beautiful story about them.

    45. Ha...so....I answered this thread long ago saying I'd had a couple of the same head but didn't really like having multiples, but....wellll....then I got Cooper. And I wanted two heads for him, one with makeup, one natural. But then I found another of his sculpt with open eyes (the first two were "Cynical" half lidded) and got him. Then....I....somehow....ended up with three open eyed heads, three NS cynical heads, one tan cynical head and a sleeping head....so I now have eight Migidoll Yujin heads.

And two Sihos, so Bren can have his regular face and his stage makeup face.

    46. I'm very guilty of owning several times the same sculpt despite having a small collection lmao
I have two Tsubaki from SQ-lab, one Vings AN-07 and plans to buy two more when the sculpt is back in sale, two DDh07...

    47. Me the same, I have Iplehouse Lonnie both in peach gold and ebony, but they are not like twins !

    48. I got two of one sculpt, Supiadoll Hael. I got the second one back when I still thought I would be content having multiple heads sharing a few bodies, but now that I know that I need everyone to have their very own bodies to be able to fully develop their character I would be surprised if I'm ever again able to justify to myself getting another one of the exact same sculpt.

    49. I have twin characters so at least twice lol, but I would like to mod the eye shape so one has more open eyes than the other. Besides that, the chances are low as I prefer very different sculpts for different characters

    50. Personally now I can only have one of the same mold. There was one point in time I had two of the same mold of a doll. However, in my defense the artist called it by a different name from each other and I was new to the hobby. I have since sold that doll. But I can’t have a monotonous collection that would leave me bored and uninspired.

    51. I have two ddh-06 heads, but I tried to make their faceups different enough and they're on different bodies. I'm definitely not opposed to multiples of the same sculpt if I like it enough, but I'd probably keep it to only 2-3.

    52. I have multiple vinyl doll sculpts of the same head. If money and space wasn't an object, I'd love to have YBeedoll Nora in every color, and I think it would be fun to have identical twins with the same sculpt but different faceups!

    53. I am contemplating getting the Yosd version of my current doll because I just love his sculpt so much, I think it would be so fun to have a little mini-me of him!

    54. There was one point where I had 3 of the Volks SD F10 mold (now disco'd) mostly becuase they were no longer popular and therefore cheap. I wound up keeping the newest pureskin resin one and selling the other 2. I do miss them. I also still have 2 Spiritdoll Bastet cats. They're funny little cat dolls. Don't see many around. First wa a freebie with other doll purchase and then I bought the only other one I've ever seen FS.

    55. I've been mulling this over lately... In theory I'm opposed to having 2 or more of the same thing, because "variety is the spice of life" and all that. But! I have a concept in mind that really calls for a 2nd Unoa girl, at least body-wise, because I want to use patterns from Hanon's sewing book. Now technically speaking I could get a Sist instead of a Lusis (what I currently have), but those sculpts are still very very similar to me! Would different hair/face-up/skin tone be enough to differentiate them? Or do I need to try to do a hybrid?? I can't decide! *_*

Luckily (?) I still have plenty of time to make a decision, since I can't actually afford another doll right now, haha :sigh

    56. I have two of one sculpt already, actually (Noble Dolls Raspberry). They have very different styling (as well as different resin colors), and most people don't realize they're the same sculpt at first glance. One is sweet, one is spicy. :XD: I think BJD sculpts have so much potential. Even a new wig or eyes can really change how your doll looks, then adding in a faceup really changes things as well. If I had unlimited space, I'd love two or three of each sculpt, but I'll settle for two of my very favorite sculpt for now.

      • x 1
    57. I'm one more victim of "I swore I'd never do this, but did" - I bought two of the same sculpt because I wanted alt looks for this doll. One head will be his 'incognito' normal human appearance, the other will be his angelic appearance. It's a single character so the plan is he'll have one body and I'll swap his head every so often... but I have two bodies on my wishlist that I really like and can't decide between them... now I'm thinking Why Not Both and give each head their own body... it'd kinda work for this character/world-building too... *slides down the slippery slope* :sweat:sweat

But usually, I'm not into buying multiple of the same sculpts, and if I made twins I'd still want them to have different heads. I do like alternate faceplates for one doll, especially sleeping heads, so if the dollmaker made a sleepy version I'm likely to get it. I got the sleeping head for one of my dolls, and I do swap her heads every so often.

    58. It is terrible seeing this pop up in my notifications, as I am also now guilty of this! My last comment from 2022 said I would never do this, yet I have a Rosen Lied Holiday's Child Bambi and have a Kanadoll Senior Bambi on the way! I'm very close to ordering a second Holiday's child Bambi too, it is my all time favourite sculpt! You really can make them look so different.

    59. I would consider re buying my first doll which brought me so much joy but she wastn the nicest sculp and re buyin her is only a feeble attempt at me trying to capture past happiness.

    60. It has been...many years since I last posted in this thread, so I have some new thoughts! I currently have Dollfie Dream option head twins, but other than that, my collection is pretty varied and matching sculpts/molds are notably absent. With anime-esque dolls, the faces are pretty barren of detailing without faceups, which makes it relatively easy to have two of the same unmodified head and still have them look wildly different. If I was going to do twin resin dolls, though, I think I'd want different (albeit similar) sculpts, just to keep things interesting!

I don't have any alternative/sleeping heads for my current dolls, but I'm not strictly opposed to owning them if the opportunity arises. I'm not actively seeking them out or modding standard heads to make it happen, though.
