I have my three chilling on my shelf XD I never really saw the point (And I mean no offence) of buying such an expensive doll only to have it sit in a box.
I was able to buy what I think is a teddy bear chair at Goodwill one day for... $5, if I remember right. So whenever I'm home (and even sometimes when I'm not) I have him sit in the chair on my desk. When I had a Dollzone Big Dipper I would have them sit on a little Barbie cushion I had lying around. I'm not sure how I'll display my next two when I get them, though. I know yellowing is a THING but... I have complicated feelings on the matter, haha. It's why when I collected other dolls I couldn't stand to see them in their box. (I do have Lance in his box sometimes, but generally with the cover off.)
My dolls all used to sit on a shelf right above my desk, so I could always look at them and work on them easily whenever I wanted. However, when we got three new cats a few years ago, this quickly turned out to be impossible So I bought an Ikea Detolf display cabinet where they now all reside! They're still in the same room, just a little bit further away. Occasionally I'll grab one to play around with, work on or make some clothes or jewellery for.
I'm one of those people that believes "why have such nice dolls only to hide them in boxes?" My Crew are all out and about the house. I have blackout curtains in my bedroom, so many of the SDs and larger sit on either the bench or the chair that sit on top of the bureau. Some sit on a (human-sized) bench and a table in another bedroom. I also have ones that sit in the kitchen on a chair. I change out who gets to sit there since I spend quite a bit of time at the kitchen table. Oh, I also have one that sits on the bed near me while I'm online, but who that is also changes. I even have The Headbasket, where the floating heads reside while waiting on bodies. That sits on my bookshelf in my bedroom. There are eight heads in it currently. Ryu
Since I'm currently stuck in temporary living arrangements, and 90% of my stuff is in boxes anyhow, my dolls spend most of the time in their boxes as well. But I prefer to keep them on a shelf or dresser in a dark corner.
I keep my dolls in the bags/boxes they came in for now. I'm planning on ordering some stands for them very soon so I can keep them out in the open.
Mine's just a head right now, she's resting on my dresser, but when her body gets here (hopefully in the next couple days!) I plan on still leaving her on my dresser, it's tall enough to keep my cat from bothering her and I'm able to look at her all the time. I plan on keeping my future dolls on my dresser too, at least until I move, then I guess I'll figure out where I'll keep them then. I don't think I can bring myself to keep them in a box or out of sight, I like being able to see them whenever I want.
I have one of these. I use it to display Hot Toys and other figures. It's a good cabinet with a space in the top to hang a light. Storage of dolls... I keep my doll in her box at the moment, because she doesn't have any clothes. When I get back to the states, I plan on having a room for all my hobbies. Cosplaying, collections, photography; and there will be a place where I can display my dolls, but until then, my doll will remain in her box, until I find a better solution.
My gramps found two mini chairs at a garage sale so I painted one and it's lavender and my Minifee fits in it perfectly. My Littlefee sits on the other chair, it's white, but she can't touch the ground lol.
Yes, just like a little kid on an adult sized chair. It's just the effect I aim for with my SD10 kids. Teddy
My bjd's are in cases that close and in my darker rooms - a few of my less expensive ones might find there way to a dresser or such, the horrible state of my office would never allow me to place one in here - it would get buried in no time flat lol. I have my ooak clay dolls in my formal living room, but I like a few of my bjd's in all rooms that basically have artificial light. Once in awhile a favorite will find itself where I pass it several times a day - but I will stand and admire a case of dolls for 1/2 hour or more - dolls aren't my children but I have always appreciated the artistry of dolls and their beauty.
As my room is far too cramped, the elves reside in cheap Wal-mart shelves in the basement. This picture is old. They've taken over two cabinets now. At college I stored them on the hat shelf in my closet. There were too many for me to bring, so I'd switch them out every time I went home. Someday when I've more permanent residence, I plan to have a designated room. I certainly own the props for it.
Mine aren't currently being stored. The ones I'm using for making patterns are hanging out on my workdesk and everyone else is bumming out in my mushroom chair. Mostly the SDs chill there.
My doll is currently sitting on a box of BJD supplies in the corner next to my desk. It's a small nook that doesn't get any direct sunlight.
Right now my doll is safely cushioned inside the bag she came in. I keep meaning to make space for her on my doll shelf once I get her some clothes. Call me weird, but a naked doll's crotch is NOT what I want to see first thing in the morning
Right now they're chilling out on a dresser in my room. There's backout curtains over all the windows and I have them closes most of the day. I've tried keeping them in a different room, but that made me feel...distant; in a metaphorical sense. Yellowing be damned, it's far more pleasant to see them every day and to store 'em.
I have a shelf a meter up my desk and they stay there (almost all of them); the little one are in cages hooked to my bed I have a pair of chair and bamboo sofas I will put somewhere for the next dolls
Mine are always out. They share space on top of a short bookshelf in my room unless I've carried one with me to another part of the house. And since I'm a light lover, the blinds and curtains are usually open. I just make sure they're never in direct light. I do want to get a dolly cabinet, but I always want to be able to see them and easily handle them. I know many people prefer to keep them boxed away, and of course that's fine, but I just wouldn't enjoy them as much if I did. I figured that out with my non-bjd doll collection. They're in boxes in my craft room closet, and I honestly couldn't tell you what most of them look like.
They are displayed on my bookshelf (they have their own) away from the window. Just in case I ve blinds for the windows and I have one of those curtains that block out the sun
I ended up getting a set of matched display cases with glass doors for my crew a few years ago... We had two big construction projects going on within a couple of blocks of the house, and live right off of a (very) busy road that produces a lot of road-grime all on its own, so keeping the gang clean had turned into a constant battle... They were absolutely Worth. Every. Penny. Those cabinets turned out to be a really excellent investment. The crew get to be out where I can see them and tinker with them easily, while still being protected from dust, grime, stray fuzz from my long-haired cat and the not-quite-as-careful-as-a-grownup attentions of the small and curious houseguests who occasionally come to visit. Glass-fronted cabinets really are the best of both worlds.
My dolls, are my little family, and I keep them around me in my living room, so that I can see a doll wherever I sit, stand or go I keep most of them in luminated glass cabinets, but since I also have a lot of Anime PVC figures, (which I want to keep dustfree) I don't have room for them all in my cabinets, so I keep a few on shelfs and tables. I would never get myself to hide a doll, it's like hiding away a loved one, I couldn't do it!
I keep mine in the box it arrived in - in my clost with the closer dor closed :S Before I got my first doll, I'D read a lot about limiting the dolls exposure to light and I think I made myself a little too paranoid about it D: when I told my MIL about it she said she thought it was a shame that I didn't have it out in display (esp. considering how much it costs?). I'm thinking of asking my contractor FIL to build me a UV acrylic/glass doll case for my birthday but I'm not sure that'd even be effective (or possible aaahhh). So in the closet it sits until the weekends when I have time to take it out ;_;
I love all the pictures in this thread! So I am in the process of moving and am debating adding a French curio cabinet and decore for my dolls in the near future. It's recently this was the area where I brought one or two out to display in the Flower Crowning Chair or Rose Sofa if I felt like it: Home Photo Space! by NakitaN, on Flickr BUT! I am a "no sunlight/no dust" collector so the rest of my dolls live in their boxes organized in the closet -or- in one of two IKEA Billy cabinets with custom cut drape for the front so no light can enter either. I find beauty in their clean condition as well as their form factor! I love keeping a collection almost as much as the collection itself. /future docent Inside Billy cabinet: Shelf of angels and Mina. <3 by NakitaN, on Flickr Exterior: (Well, it's pretty lame but I didn't ever just take a pic of the exterior- not that I can find. If you look behind Alice in the following picture, you can see part of them and get an idea! SD Bianka by NakitaN, on Flickr Please share more pics of your "doll rig"! I love all the ideas!
@nakitaninja I just wanted to day how much I love your Sailor Moon collection in your first photo - those Proplica (sp?) wands are gorgeous ;__;
Like a few others, I store my dolls on a shelf on my bookshelf! I'd really like to buy some vintage wallpaper and cover the inside of my bookshelf (to make it look more like dollhouse rooms) and cover that specific shelf with fake wood flooring/carpet of some sort... and of course tons of doll furniture, lol.
Mine sits on top of a cubby shelf and is displayed with all of my other dolls, so she's right in sight whenever I walk into the room. I don't do anything too fancy with them, they're just all kind of displayed neatly in a row with stands holding them up or just sitting down. I would like to create a diorama and cute furniture eventually and display my dolls in them, like some do here, but I don't have the space or materials for that at the moment. One day though.... ^_^
i only have one girl right now, but she's goes back in her box once i'm done playing with her. i have a dog, and i share a room, so leaving her out is dangerous haha ^^
My girl currently stays stored in her box for now. I recently got a cat, and while I introduced the two, I'm not certain how it will be if I leave the two alone together. I would love to get a display case one day though!
Most of my dolls sit on a couch in a wardrobe in my bedroom - the others sit on a chair in my bedroom. I love seeing them everyday and I admit to sometimes talking to them. My apartment faces north and I keep the blinds down, so I don't worry too much about yellowing.
They had a telephone table and settee, where they were for some weeks, but I bought a big corner unit with shelves, so the little ones (YOsD and smaller) sits on that, while Alicia, the only one SD sits on the settee. DSCN1324 by Laylaah, on Flickr (everyone on the teephone table and settee)
I used to have mine displayed on my computer desk shelves in their furniture but then i got kittens and well ^^; i really didnt want my poor dolls to constantly be pushed off the desk and falling to the floor so they are now under my desk all sitting together in a fabric box that i lined with one of their pillows ^^ its a system that works for me becouse if i want to mess with them i can eisally pull them out from where they are and at the same time they are safe from my kittens ^^
Wow, reading these comments makes me feel a bit guilty about keeping my girls in their original boxes. I'm extremely protective of them though and want to avoid any possible sun exposure. I do certainly like some of the ways people are displaying their dolls though. I may look at getting a case sometime with special glass to keep out the u/v rays.
Right now I have the few that I have in their boxes. I have a kitten that climbs and jumps everywhere. Nothing is safe when she is around Working on getting a cabinet with glass/plexy front to keep little paws out!
Currently, I have two that sit out in various parts of my room (it's one of those depending on the moment kind of things). My boy Tahmos and my WIP boy, Aqqen, who I'm in the middle of making a wig for. I've put off working on it because of a recent move and classes starting up. The other WIPs and my MSD are all still in their boxes, waiting for the next move in mid to late November. I had them out in my last place too, and I always was in the habit of having the shades drawn. It's a bit habitual for me to keep my room dark. This room in the current place is naturally dark, even at midday. It often looks like twilight outside even in the middle of the day! I'm not sure what kind of lighting the new place will have, but the setting will probably be similar. I'm planning on getting a glass display case (I have one cat that fortunately doesn't bother with either boys, but I'd rather not take my chances too much!). I won't have an extra display room any time soon, but I can't keep them all stuck inside boxes hidden in dark corners. Tahmos especially wouldn't like that!
Excuse this post if its been done before! I was just wondering where you guys have your dolls and where do they hang out/are displayed. I'd love to see pictures of your dioramas and houses! Or even if you just have a dolly shelf id love to see that too!!!
Well my girl hangs out with me in the lounge. Watching TV, listening to music, sat right next to me. I'd like to make a doll specific area at some point but she's only lived with me for a few weeks and I'm just getting used to having her around. I leave her here when I go to bed though, I'd be worried about damage.
I have a spare bedroom that has become the doll room. My crew hangs out in various room dioramas most of the time, but sometimes I have one sitting with me while I see or watch tv or play online.
I currently keep mine in my big closet. My husband has talked about putting up shelves in our room so I can keep them out, but there really isn't a good spot in our room where sunlight wouldn't get to them. We have a game room also that doesn't get as much sun, so maybe someday we'll put up shelving in there for them. Until then though they will live in my walk in closet where there are no windows and no evil sun lol.
I currently have very little room, so unfortunately my dollies go back in their boxes when not being played with. I take them out regularly though! And I love them soooo much! They get their own section of the room when I move into the new place!
mine are in my bedroom next to my bed - on a row of dining chairs with a fleece throw on - I do have to ensure that none of them are looking at me in bed though LOL - would be too creepy! I don't open the curtains on this window in the bedroom, as it's South facing, so they're never in the sun here - otherwise I'd have them in the living room, but that's a very sunny room. I have a dresser in my bedroom that is maybe five feet long and two feet deep. It's got chairs, sofas and doll stands holding most of the collection. I have a similar setup in my living room on a slightly smaller surface holding another 10 dolls. I am pretty lucky to have landed some great doll furniture, it makes for nice diorama setups.
I'm working on making a little display for her! I'm getting a clear plastic goblet and fill it up with fake sweets for her to chill in
Since I only have a few right now, they just sit on a 1/4 scale wooden bench in my office/rabbit room. In the future when we move into a bigger place, I would like a table or shelf for them.
Right now they are all in their boxes because I'm selling them, but I know what I'm doing with my new doll that's coming. I don't have my new doll yet but when I do, she will stay with me on my desk as I work, when I'm away she will stay in her little room (that I made in a closed cabinet) so she is out of the sun, and at night I'll put her in her box.
I keep my dolls stored in their boxes in a closet. We have cats and they like to knock things off of shelves!
There is this windowless alcove in my room and my dolls are sitting on my computer table there. There are also drapes in front of the entrance just in case.
Right now I can't do much with my doll since I only live at home for around 4 months a year. She's mostly kept in the box she came in, since I can't do much with her at the moment. I'm also a nervous first time BJD owner so I'd like to keep her safe from dust, stains, and sunlight.
Same, I have my first doll and I am so paranoid! When I'm not home/at night, my girl stays in her box with a little flannel blanket (sometimes it feels like putting a child to bed at night). During the day when I am home, she's usually sitting somewhere near me. I'd try to find a place to put her when I'm not home that isn't her box, but quite frankly, I live with my grandma (who I don't want asking questions about how much she cost) and my cat (who I worry might knock her down if I left her unsupervised). Within the next year or so when I get my own place, I'll probably leave a desk empty for her to hand out on and put furniture there for her, but until then...
I use to be super, superrrrrr anal about how I stored my dolls and I was terrified of all my precious, expensive dolls yellowing. I had blackout curtains over my windows, and would put them all away in a dark dresser. When I open that thing man! I still small resin fumes! XD At some point though I just stopped taking them out as life got too hectic and I couldn't really justify putting more money into this hobby. So I stopped enjoying them. Eventually I took a few of them out and just sat them on a metal shelf away from the window, and I took down the blackout curtains. All is still well and hurray for progress, lol! I'd love for someday to have a more bjd specific area for them -- with in scale chairs and decorations. All that jazz.
I used to pack mine away in his carry case every night or days I wouldnt be able to 'play' with them, when I first got him out of paranoia about damaging him, but now they just kinda sit wherever I'm sitting haha~
Mine are all in a large cabinet with glass doors. I hang material over the front when i'm not doing something with them to decrease the light exposure.
I usually keep mine sitting on a shelf in my closet, away from sunlight, or wrapped up tightly in my messenger bag to take them out with me! I find I play with them and adore them more when they're out of their boxes, so I usually keep them on the shelf.
It's interesting to see how everyone stores their dolls! At the moment I only have one who I keep in his box until I have the space to get a glass cabinet, then I plan on making a couch that'll fit in there for him and his future friends! I'm a little worried about potential damage so I feel better knowing that he's safe in his box
