How do you store your BJD, clothes, and accessories?

Feb 5, 2015

    1. For me, I store every in a large box. I keep the wigs in their original packaging with the net it came with; I swap or zip lock the shoes. I also reuse the human underwear packagings that are in zip lock forms which is very cost effective and protective for clothes that needs extra care. Whenever I feel like seeing them somewhere around my room, I tend to display the doll clothes on my garment rack intended for it.

    2. In time it will be donated when I don't take as many photos due to arthritis in my hands devsloping, but at least I can use it for a bit longer.

    3. So far I've only kept them in the boxes that they shipped in

    4. I'm trash. I just pile everything into my MSD's box and carry everything around like that. I've pretty much ruined her box.

    5. at the moment.... i have had multiple orders arrive over the last few months... and my health has been .... on and off... i currently have boxes everywhere and stuff is ...less than organized lol... oh well I will get there... but now even my groceries are delivered so... yeah i don't get out now :P

    6. i made a long little rack under mt window shelf where i hang all the tops and pants with clothes hooks and custom made clips, shoes are lined on the wall below and accessories are organized in a small dollar store organize

    7. My girls and boys are sitting on selves in my spare bedroom.
I also have a small three shelve bookcase. I put there clothes and stuff in plastic shoe boxes and place in the bookcase. 3 of them fit on each selve. I keep their cloths in the bag they came in and place in shoe box. That way all pieces stay together. I also keep my fullsets together that way. Then I put wigs together in one box and shoes in another.
You can buy 10 of these plastic shoe boxes with lids at walmart for very good prices. I was able to buy 2 different colored lids. So, one color for my msds and another for sds. That helps to find size very quickly.

    8. I'm somewhat struggling with storing/organizing all my bjd stuff! What are good ways to store mostly clothes with minimal space used?

any tips and tricks for storing and organizing are greatly appreciated!

    9. The outfits that I really want to keep nice and all together I place in plastic zip bags, and then I lay them flat in another storage box, or in an empty doll box, lol. I have a repurposed jewelry box for my doll's shoes, it looks like a wardrobe.

    10. I use a doll armoire at the moment. It's about MSD size. The Queen's Treasures has a really nice one in the same style.
Once my collection gets bigger, I'll use one of those plastic shelves.

    11. I keep my doll clothes in clear shoe boxes but I saw a idea that looks nice to try. I saw a spring loaded curtain rod inside a self and clothes hung with doll size hangers or curtain rings with clips.

    12. After 13 years in the hobby, I have lots of doll stuff...especially clothes, since that’s one of the ways I play with my dolls. I love designing outfits for each one’s specific character...it’s one of my favorite things to do in the hobby. Needless to say, I have massive wardrobes for my crew, and I organize them the same way FrozenSunset does, by putting each complete outfit (including jewelry) in a separate ziplock plastic bag and then storing it in a drawer or box with that doll’s other clothing. I also have a drawer devoted entirely to shoes, and one devoted to their growing hat collection since they all share those. I also have a jewelry armoire of drawers I found cheap at a resale shop that houses their wigs. And a tiny drawer in my desk is devoted to extra eyes. But the key element I think is the plastic bags since they can be easily stored in any type of container, can be labeled, and are clear which makes it easy to see what’s in there at a glance. It works equally well if you only have one doll or a large collection.

    13. For eyes, get one of those small-compartment toolboxes or craft boxes. Each pair of eyes fit nicely into a compartment, and it's easy to sort by size (or composition, or color, or whatever suits you). I've also used pill containers for eyes, but now I have too many eyes to fit in them.

I'd love to store wigs on knobs of some kind, so that I can see the shape/style. Right now, mine are in ziplock bags. Any ideas for something I can buy (and not make ;_) that has lots of head-sized knobs?

For SD doll clothes, Jim Holtz Ideology, a scrapbook company, makes the perfect sized hanger. https://www.amazon.com/Idea-ology-F...ideaology&qid=1567959723&s=arts-crafts&sr=1-1 Incidentally, the same company also makes perfect SD-sized silverware.

    14. Like many people have done, I store complete outfits in ziplock bags or I keep them in their original boxes. I have bought several large storage containers where I keep outfits, wigs, and shoes if the outfits are not kept in a doll's box. Needless to say, the more items you have, naturally, the more space you need to store them in. :sweat

    15. I fold clothes the same way I fold my own, very tightly, the way Marie Kondo folds things. I put clothes on the bottom of one side of a plastic storage bin I got at the grocery store for probably not that much (it's old and I can't remember), shoes on the other side of the bottom, then scrap yarn, then spare parts, with wigs on top to block the parts from the sun that comes through my window. The bin is usually in the corner of my room, but since I'm redressing a few of my dolls, it fits in the space between my desk and shelf. Most grocery stores should have small plastic bins like that, and I plan to use a larger spare cardboard box when I need more space, anything that wasn't dinged up too badly during shipping.

    16. I have to try the ziplock idea for outfits :o I do that for wigs, shoes and eyes, but my clothes are just all together in a box.
I store my crafts stuff(lace, ribbons, zippers...) in boxes with many different compartments ^^

    17. Like everyone else here- plastic containers, different sizes, ziplock bags, and more. I’ve been in this hobby 10 years and amassed a lot of clothes for my dolls. I keep the sets in ziplock bags (sandwich sizes and gallon sized depending on how big they are), and sorted then in those plastic drawers (I stacked 2 of 3 drawers into a 6 drawers tower to save space). I sort them by sizes but two of the dolls has their own drawers since they’ve got so much clothes (favorite ones get spoiled). I also keep wigs, eyes, shoes, and COA in plastic shoe boxes. They’re all stored in the craft room.
Tho, I’m planning to invest in a fire/earthquake proof safe sometime soon for important documents and plan to store the COA along with them for insurance proof. I live in a high natural disaster zone, (Alaska). Its also a good idea to consider that too.

      • x 1
    18. I like the Idea of keeping COA for insurance! I never thought about it so I've been painfully willy nilly with my COAs

    19. I have a chest of drawers just for my doll stuff. Each doll's clothes, accessories and props go into their own shoe box size plastic tote with their name on it, so it's very easy to find when I want to change them. Typically, my dolls sit out, fully dressed with wig, so I don't often store wigs, though I do have a little bit larger plastic tub to hold the wig boxes or spare wigs. Eyes are separated by size and stored in a plastic bead organizer. Doll boxes are stacked on the shelf in the closet. CoA stays in the doll box, unless the doll doesn't have a box, then all of the extra CoAs are in one ziplock with the wigs.

    20. I bought a 10 drawer organizer cart on Amazon!

      • x 1
    21. Caboodles boxes. Whenever I see them for cheap at garage sales. I've organized almost all my prop collections into them.

      • x 1
    22. I brought many transparent plastic containers from MUJI and IKEA( it's easy to stack their containers) , separating them into different categories into shoes, wigs, clothes, gowns, etc. Plastic bead organizer is great for eye and accessory. I like to use flat plastic rectangle box for storing vulnerable and delicate clothes.
I also made wooden boxes for my dolls' body ( basically I put their heads into damp-proof cabinet and lock it, for children disaster and moisture).

    23. Because I don't own quite a lot of dolly items right now, I use small compact plastic boxes (Ones most people use for their arts/sewing supplies)! I fold the clothes small and neat and give each outfit their own cubicle! Shoes/wigs are stored in bigger ones but the same concept applies! Though before that I honestly just folded everything up in the boxes they came with so I wasn't wasting space!

    24. I store my BJDs in my closet since my room isn't really big enough for a bunch of SDs to be displayed 24/7, and I also live in a pretty sunny area so the fear is real. I store all of the wigs, clothes, and accessories in the bags they came in for organizational purposes and I keep those in a box near the dolls, who are in their own boxes when I'm not displaying/playing with them.

    25. I have two big display cases that store my dolls. In addition, I store clothes and wigs in boxes to keep dust off them. All of this fits in my two display cases I got for free. :)

    26. Dolls go on the shelf in display. I have a small tin that I keep my eyes in, and I'm hoping to get a Caboodles or something similar to start storing my clothes in?

    27. I bought several plastic containers from IKEA and stacked them onto each other, the containers are divided into categories like clothes, wigs, eyes, ... etc.
My dolls are either on display (always away from direct sunlight!) or lay on a white blanket in a completely dark drawer. Their boxes are stored away in a closet in my apartment.

    28. I just keep mine in a few plastic containers, I plan to get a cabinet to keep them in that I could add a rod for hanging clothing. I separate the clothing by size, but I have a lot of items that can be effected by being folded or stacked so a hanging set up is a must.

    29. Good old IKEA Kallax with some inserts! So no dust or sunshine can come close to my dolls :XD: Really love this shelf because it got so much space! Also have my FU materials in it and my dolls clothes.

    30. My Latis have their little apartment.

CaffeLati on Instagram: “My Lati babies’ storage/room.♥️”

My YoSDs have a "room" too, the room being a woven box with lid.

I have no idea how I will store my incoming MSD! T_T He is so big!

The clothes are in bins, basically. Separated by size, as in 1/8 and 1/6 size right now. But the wardrobe is growing and it's proving not big enough. Haha

    31. My girl stays in her carry case she came with and I have her clothes in a mini suitcase set I recieved as a gift one year, her shoes / accesories are kept in there aswell but in little ziplock type bags so I can keep them all together :)

    32. The BJD storage question is one I am trying to decide on how to resolve -- I have a large figure collection in IKEA Billy bookcases with glass doors, which was a huge upgrade over having them out on open air shelves where they attracted a lot of dust. But my three dolls are currently out in the open air and I'm not sure what I want to do in terms of presentation. I was at a friend's house where they had a few Asian dolls in Acrylic display cases which I've been leaning towards recently, since I like the idea of being able to see the dolls from all angles.

    33. I store my dolls clothing and accessories in a vintage samsonite case that I decked out with ribbons and anime keychains:whee:. I don't have much to store due to still waiting on my first doll to arrive, but I have stored fabric and small decoden accessories that I plan on attaching to his clothes. I also stuff smaller props into the backpack I bought him to save space.

    34. I've only got the one doll at the moment, and she doesn't really have that much stuff, so right now her clothes mostly fit in the doll-sized dresser I have in her makeshift diorama and anything that doesn't fit goes in her fairyland box. I suppose I'll have to come up with something fancier once my other dolls arrive and I get more doll clothes and props, but this will do in the meantime.

    35. Honestly I do not. I need to find a way,all of my doll clothes and accessories are in a jumbled mess in a box :(

    36. I have a large closet, so I keep my dresser in there rather than in my room. It has eight drawers, so I use half of them for my own clothes and half for doll clothes. I have one drawer for each size - basically, tiny, yosd, 1:4, & 1:3.

Accessories I keep in a couple of boxes, and the ones I use the most are in their respective dioramas. I also have some storage space in each diorama - one has a tiny closet and one has some shelves - and so clothes that only that specific doll ever uses are kept in there.

    37. They sell these miniature drawers at the Dollar Tree, so I buy those and they are perfect size! They are over where the storage/cooking supplies are.

      • x 1
    38. I had them in his mini dresser at first... well he outgrew that xD now I have his thing In a little plastic bin! I’m sure he’ll outgrow that too though.

    39. I store them all in one box right now. my doll seem to "not have many cloth atm" so this would be fine for a while. I'm planning to get more proper storage in the future, maybe.

    40. I only have one BJD but I have other dolls her size. They all "live" in the china closet. I keep their clothes in white file folder boxes with their names written on the front. I keep each outfit in a plastic ziplock bag so like items stay together.

    41. For dolls and accessories that you don't have out on display how do store them? Do you have a special storage for them? What kind of things do you use to protect them?

    42. I store my dolls back in their original boxes. I only have MSD, so the boxes don't take up that much room compared to people with SD boxes.

      • For the floating heads, I wrap each back in bubble wrap and then put a mask on the face regardless of face up status because I want to protect any noses from being damaged.
      • For other resin parts (shoes, head pieces, etc.) I wrap each back in bubble wrap, then in a hobby sized zip lock
      • For each clothes, they are laid as flat as possible then go into their zip locks
      • Wigs go back into their hair net with the cardboard around it to keep it from losing shape. I also bag these.
My collection is still small, so I am sure I won't be able to be as meticulous as I continue. But I borrowed from my husband's modeling hobby and will get an accordion file to store multiple pieces of an outfit.

    43. I bought an ‘Our Generation’ wardrobe and it’s really fantastic. Not everything will fit in it so I also have a couple of plastic bins for the overflow. I try to keep my favorite pieces in the wardrobe and change it up every couple of months to cycle through all the stuff I have.

    44. I keep my doll clothes and shoes in plastic boxes, something like socks, legwarmers and underwear in a wooden box. They don't take up a lot of space and it fits in a lot. I keep something like necklaces and bracelets also in a small wooden box, my dolls are all on my shelf. I have to see them otherwise I would propably never do something with them.

    45. My collection is super small. I only have 2 dolls but 3 more are on their way to me so I prepare everything! I'm also moving out soon, I think often about how I can store them in this small apartment. I hope I can find some nice ideas here!

For my floating heads, I have a box were christmas ornament are usually stored in. I wrap them up in bubble wrap and place them in it! This is super easy to store and stack. :whee:

For parts, wigs, and clothes I have a seethrough box with sections that I bought at Ikea. Everything is separated and can't destroy other things.

    46. I keep my dolls in their original box. But for the doll clothes and accessories, I keep them in a plastic ziplock bag and a plastic box.

For a plastic box, if it was something that easy to broke, I will place a sponge or bubble wrap under before. :3nodding::3nodding:

    47. I have a large-ish collection (40 dolls) which are all on display in various artistic settings throughout my home...and I have an even larger collection of clothing, wigs, and accessories for them! So of course I need good storage.:sweat What I’ve done is purchase nice old furniture cabinets (the kind that were made for those fat-backed TVs of yesteryear) at thrift stores for a song. I decorate the large open TV part for my doll displays, and utilize the lower portions (which often come with drawers, shelves and doors) for storage solutions. They look lovely, being real furniture, and work great for my collection.:)

    48. I have a drawer and a box where I keep accessories and props I'm not using, although since I've switched to a fantasy setting for nearly all of my dolls I have less of those. Clothes go in a dresser, with a different scale in each drawer.

All dolls I plan to keep long term are kept on display, on a high shelf out of direct sunlight. The ones in the back row are standing with the help of doll stands; the front row are sitting or kneeling. If a doll is incomplete, it stays in the front row for easier access.

    49. I have a medium collection with three 70cm boys, seven SD and one MSD. I keep the dolls out, but store the boxes and clothes/accessories. The boxes are neatly stacked on the top shelf of the closet in the guest bedroom. Each doll has their own shoebox size storage tub with their name on it for clothes and accessories. These tubs fit neatly in the chest of drawers in the guest room. I also have a larger tub of spare wigs in the closet in there. The dolls sit on the chest or on a doll bed or couch. Spare eyes, s-hooks and other tiny parts are in an organizer in a craft cabinet with my faceup supplies.

    50. In a bag lol

    51. Dolls are all out because there's no point in having them if they're shut away in boxes.

Some are on open shelves Mostly in the livingroom, some on my bedside unit), some are in a glass-fronted cabinet in the livingroom (it's messy with gaps and the occasional slumped doll at the moment), some are where I plonked them down when I last finished playing with them. One is sat beside me as I type, glaring at me for not finishing the neckline on the dress I'm making for her (the reason she's sat there), and not restyling the wig she's wearing (it's lost all its curl). Another is perched atop a fashion-doll-wardrobe-trunk in the spare bedroom where I sat her after I changed her into a newly arrived outfit. She needs to go back to the cabinet... at some point.

Accessories : The furniture not in use at the moment is crammed in wherever it will fit. The top of a cupboard, a shelf of a storage unit etc. Smaller stuff is in boxes on the same shelving unit. Clothes and shoes are in plastic stacking boxes, sorted by doll size and gender (occasionally a box for a specific doll is he/she has enough stuff of their own to warrant it), wigs are also sorted by size, smaller ones in more plastic boxes, the SD sized ones in a box divided into individual wig-sized compartments. Other bits and pieces (jewellery. games, books, umberellas etc) are in boxes too. Most of these plastic boxes are on a shelving/storage unit in the spare bedroom, tightly tetris-stacked so they'll all fit in the limited space. Overspill is stacked wherever space could be found (on top of a bookcase, in a corner etc).

    52. My doll lives on the shelf in her own little room (sort of, the basics are there: a couch/bed with cozy blankets, a shelf for toys, a little stool and more toys). The outfits are in clear zipbags and the zipbags are in clear plastic boxes, one for summer and one for winter. For shoes and accessories I have several seethrough boxes with separations. Come to think of it, my doll has way more shoes and outfits than I. How did this happen?:aeyepop:

    53. Mostly in boxes or cubbies out of the way? I don't have a good display area for my dolls right now, so they're mostly tucked out of the way in the closet till I'm actively doing something with them.

    54. This is a non-stop project for me. I modified a closet in my studio years ago, and just keep re-modifying! It's 8 feet long, 8 feet high and 2 feet deep. I built a shelf at the top that has enough space to let my big boys (up to 70cm) have inches of room above their heads, standing up. Big props are kept on that shelf. The next shelf down can handle the biggest SDs sitting down. I put a hanging rack, a shoe drawer system and a clothing drawer system in. I have pull out rolling bins on the bottom for wigs and packaging I want to keep. I am constantly revising the set-up. Many of my items sit for years without being used, so everything is packed in thick plastic bags or boxes, but they have to be breathable, so plastic bags have a hole punched in them. I am not OCD in any way...except about my BJD stuff. I am currently revising the setup. Soon it will be perfect...until I need to revise it again...

    55. I'd love to see pics... especially of the revisions etc. I get why that can change... it has to adapt to you changing stuff; That just makes sense to me. But omg the size of the closet! ... I needed 6 or 8 of those when i did costuming for theatre lol

    56. I keep my dolls extra clothes, eyes, wigs and accessories in their box so I don’t lose track of anything. In the future I would like to move my stuff into clear containers or tackle boxes.

    57. Here's how it looks right now. I had to combine two photos because it has big sliding mirror doors on the front. The red bins on the bottom right side roll out and wigs and packaging is stored in them. The big wicker bin above them holds projects I haven't gotten to yet (I want to make shoes!). This was a clothing closet, I put the shelves in so I'd have room for big dolls to sit and stand. The big boy on the sofa is 70cm, the big boy on the top shelf is SD17. On the left side, SD girl and boy clothes are in plastic bins in the big mesh drawers on the bottom and there's a step stool so I can reach the top shelf. MSD and Yo (I only have 2 MSDs and 1 Yo) clothes are on the shelf above in plastic containers. Shoes are in clear plastic boxes in the white mesh pull out drawers on the shelf above. To the left of the shoes is a clothing rack that is hidden behind wall (second photo below). It's a towel rack that I put up at an angle so I can hide small props in drawers behind the clothes. Above that, big props, hats in 2 bins and a spare parts bin.

My studio is a leather studio, so things get covered with leather dust even in the closet, unless they are in some kind of container. I have spent the last 3 months cleaning out and organizing. I got rid of a ton of clothes, shoes, etc. So, this has plenty of space and is working well...for now!

This is outside of the closet and where I keep eyes, tools and faceup supplies...I like it outside of the closet. I really like toolboxes...

    58. So, my dolls have their own closet?? Haha

The inside of the closet is about 4ft wide and 3.5ft deep, not sure how tall (I think my ceiling is at 7ft? Anyway--)

So I have three shelves in the closet for the dolls. On the widest and center shelf, I have my dolls which range from 10cm to 70cm. Those that stand on their own do, but majority have doll stands to hold them up. On the shelf below it I have four bins, which I use to separate clothes by size (SD+, MSD, YOSD, TINY). On the shelf above it I keep my face up supplies. On the floor I keep doll boxes, a travel bag, unused doll stands, and props. I have magnets glued on the inside of the door to hold metal containers that hold eyes, jewelry, hairclips, ect.

      It works for me!

    59. omg i love the hanging cloths lol you have 'bin of HANGERS'! lol do you make your own clothing bags? I got two sets of them from 'tree something... i forget the name. They did not suit the Iple sized clothing well and i figured that for bags I could make with duct tape and plastic even adding zippers if needed. But hangers elude me... i'm super picky about them lol

    60. I buy heavy duty zip lock bags on Amazon, 4mil thick (10"x13"). I'm a leather artist, so I have round punches of every size. I just punch a half circle at the top middle of the bag and slip a hanger through! You could easily just cut a half circle at the top though! Long skinny 4 mil bags cost a fortune, so for long coats and sets, I cut the top off of one bag and add it to the bottom of another with double sticky leather tape (which is a constant life saver with a million things!). I have tons of "Wonder Clips", they work beautifully to clip things to hangers like skirts and pants. I need one more thing, a hook up high at the top to hang the really long sets on...working on that! The hangers are supposed to be for AG dolls, and really only work for SD sizes. I only have 2 MSDs though, so I just put their clothes in a bin.
