How do you keep your dolls?

Dec 26, 2006

    1. They are sitting out, but I need to make dust covers for them!

    2. After having watched twenty-four episodes of Rozen Maiden, I'm very inclined to believe that they need a private place to rest away from human eyes. I'm actually going to take an antique wooden chest from our living room and put it in my room so Seionai could sleep in it. Yes, I'm a fanboy. :)

    3. They basically live on any surface in my house high enough so lil grabby hands can't reach em. I would love to buy one of those cool trunks in the HD magazine this month. Sigh.

    4. My dolls just usually sit on the sofa, on bed, or on top of my cd-player. Maybe someday they'll have a little room of their own in my bookself.

    5. My dolls cover what was SUPPOSED to be the side-table in my office area. It was SUPPOSED to be a space to lay out books and printouts and so forth as I worked on papers for classes (I just got my 2nd master's degree 2 weeks ago).

BUT. The dolls started using an old library bookshelf -- the kind that sits on top of something else -- as a sofa. And then they spilled over onto the table. And then I bought two overstuffed chairs, and they perched on those, too, as well as the little end-table that came with one.

I ... need to build the big sofa I have material for.

I like having them next to me all the time.

And my two old lady cats love them. The only disadvantage to that is that Emily, the one who is always on top of me, sheds like a sumgun. But hey, I'm always covered with cat hair, so why not my dolls. The cats are 14 and 19, so they don't exactly pose much of a threat otherwise.

    6. Well i originally cleared off a desk in my room to bring in my computer from the computer room, so i could hole myself in my room and never come out again! Haha! But i relaised it was too much of a pain to run wireing all across the house for my cable internet. So i didnt know what to do with the space.

Then i bought a couch for Ringo...and noticed it was quite large for the initial area i had intended him to live in...so the computer area became the "Liveing room" of Haven Way. :D they have a few pieces of furniture, art on the wall, some plants, and its just sooo cool.

Even funnier is that my room is a mess, but their room is very liveable compared to mine! :D

    7. Mine currently sit on scale-size chairs, though I too am worried that my cats might knock them off the table where the chairs are. Wish I did have a special place where they could be safe without them having to go into their boxes.

    8. I used to keep my doll on a shelf above my nightstand...away from my two little dogs. However, one day I came home from work and found that my cat had apparently got up there and ate a few of my girl's fingers....the 22 pound cat that usually doesn't do anything except move from the couch to the bed a couple of times a day. I would have never guessed she would even notice my doll. Fortunatly, I was able to replace her hands, but after that trauma I keep her up in a glass doll cabinet and only take her out when I am home to watch her.

    9. Britain- excellent advice on the wigs. I will do that.

    10. Eily- I was thinking of a glass cabinet until I could see my cats reactions to her. If I got a large enough one I could make a living room inside of it. XD

    11. The glass case with a living room inside sounds like a great idea until you know how your cat will react. I still don't know what possessed mine to try to eat my doll....but hopefully most cats don't do things like that.

    12. My dolls like to have an adventure across my apartment (I live in a single-room apartment). Usually they sit on my desk or on my shelf. I have no pets to knock them over, so it is safe to place them almost anywhere. I like to keep them close to me though ^_^

    13. Mine sit on top of a long bureau of drawers. I have it set up as a living room for them with pics on the wall scaled to their size.

    14. The girl's been sat on any flat surface as I'm home at the moment. She's lounging on the sideboard with the china at the moment. We do have a dog but it's lovely and wouldn't dare to touch my girl. He's such a big softy. At home she sits on my book shelf in front of my to-read book pile. I want a propper space for her but none is forthcoming just now. I hate the thought of packing her away and locking her up in boxes or cabinets. I figured there's no point in having her if I'm gonna hide her away or can't cuddle her. I love to have her just sat there on the shelf.

    15. My dolls are all around as well. When I get the bigger one, she will be like the model in the middle of the room, constantly being measured for clothing.

    16. The only piece of furniture mine own right now is a large four-poster bed. Dawn and Dahlia could comfortable share it when they were alone, but now there's Darius, Day, little Berry and Ronja's head... They still spend most of their days sitting on the bed all together, but it's awfully crowded.

My ex-boyfriend is going to move out in a couple of weeks, though, and then I'll have two additional rooms for myself. I plan on getting some shelves and making rooms for my dolls, adding furniture and accessories as I can afford them.

    17. Hi

My mnf Shiwoo sits in his chair next to my armchair.. on the floor in front of the unit sits my Elf Lishe and my mod Dreaming El in a large chair... other side of fireplace sit my school head A and Jun T with a bambicroni Roko sitting on her knee on a double rocking chair... on a lower shelf sit my Chobits Chi.. Megu... and Ken and a shelf above sit my Elf Vamp Lishe and Elf Vamp Yder with my Elf Kumi and my Orient Ji... on another shelf sit my daughters CH Mina her Myu and a little chinese bjd plus her Sharmin. My Tanned El normally sits on another chair near fire place.... (Fire place isnt used lol)

      Hugs Maz x

    18. My girl sits on my bed mainly in the day and half the time sleeps in her bed box the other half in bed with me but I don't cover her or sleep near her in case I damage her eyelashes or face up.
If I have lots of people in my room I pack her away in her bed box, if I have just one person over and we are both on the bed I put my doll on the chair in my room. People have a habit of almost sitting on her if I leave her on the bed. :|

    19. we have a room that has a slanted wall. It was supposed to be a spare room, but my boyfriend is 6'8" so that didnt work out. Now it's a place for drunk friends to crash and a holding pen for my makeup and fancy clothes. Since I have a two year old, and two dogs, it's the only safe place in the house. I already bought her a bed and a bunch of other stuff so she will have her own "area" when she arrives. I'm so excited! Now I just have to keep her away from my kids and the dogs! ACK!

    20. I set up a little bed and chair for him in the waaay corner of my room, away from my window. I don't want to put them in boxes because it's too much of a hassle and what's the point of owning a doll then -_-; I just try to stash him away from light/window/sun/etc..

Most of the time, he's just sitting with me on my desk, watching me do homework.

    21. For my first BJD at first I put her on a Doll size Chair and up on a shelf, but then after I learn about yellowing (as the shelf is quite near the window; not direct sunlight but still...) I just put her back in her box...

Those dolls after, when I dont play, I just put them back in their boxes..

    22. i keep mine in the box until i have somewhere safe to display him. i don't trust him alone around my cats.

    23. They're on the living room table, still in their Christmas tableau. Otherwise, they're around the house in little chairs, on stands, or kipping in the sewing basket.

    24. I'm so paraniod about Kale getting dirty or yellowing that he sleeps frequently in his box. But when he isn't I like to carry him where ever I am so that I can look at him. :)

I am however planning on making him a set with trees, rocks, dirt and tent...etc.

    25. I just let them sit beside me...
sometimes I will put them into a box

    26. My roommate and I have doll sized furniture set up on various surfaces around the living room, though they often just sit on the sofa with me : )

    27. My girls are here on a shelf by my computer..I do a lot of hand sewing here.So I have shelves and all my girls live around me..The room is all dolls ,sewing, and computers.lol..They model for me and I play with them in scenes..
      Hugs Phyllis Burki

    28. Well, I've only had my doll for one week ;3; So far every night he goes back into his box... I'm afraid to keep him out somewhere in case my cats find a way to open the door to my room XD During the day he sometimes sits wherever I am so I can look at him~

As far as how the cats have responded: One cat is pretty terrified. The other one really likes my doll and tries to curl up on his lap. She likes him more than she likes me >_>

    29. I envy the people who have a little miniature corner for them in their house! ^_^ My crew sleeps in a carrier for 2 dolls with their face mask on, away from dust, bugs (there are lots @ my house), and sunlight.

    30. They're sitting on my desk, near the computer. I'd love to get them some armchairs or sofas though...

    31. I keep my dolls on my bed xD

It's a big bed, and I'm used to sleeping besides a large assortment of stuffed creatures, so its no problem. There really is no where else I can put them in my room, and they look so comfortable xDD didn't have anything else to do with all those doll pillows...

    32. Mine stay in their boxes in a corner of my room until I can come up with something better. Plus, I don't trust my cats and younger brother around them. :|

    33. Some of my tinies have taken over a bookshelf as their house. My father found himself under the spell of the tinies and now feels compelled to build them dollhouses. There's already one, and he's working on the second.

My Soom Uyoo also has a bookshelf and a boatload of Barbie furniture, because I think she's my fiance's favorite of all the dolls and he keeps buying her stuff.

Two of my MSDs have their own apartment, on two bookshelves glued back to back (so it was wide enough for their furniture), and some of the other dolls come visit them.

My SD dolls just hang out wherever. We have doll sized furniture all over the house, and they end up all over the place. It's their house too.

I have a very understanding fiance'.

    34. I have them divided up in my room. I've got a large tv entertainment center so 4 of them (or more) will go up there, and my couples currently are on this table that has to levels.

    35. My bedroom and entire home is cluttered with two crazy cats on the loose. I have officially declared this a Dolly Disaster Zone, and so until they have a space bigger and better and more dolly-friendly, they sleep together in Wren's box, so neither has to be lonely, and Lynx's box is used for wig storage :)

    36. My first doll, an msd, I fixed up a cute little suitcase for her to stand and sit in. She sleeps in there away from dust. My second doll, an sd boy, he sleeps in his CP box. He is a vampire after all, and is comfortable in that with his cushions. I take him out quite a bit and he sits next to me when I am in the house. Usually near the computer or t.v. area is the best place to admire him. My tiny bjd usually fits very nicely next to my boy in the box, at night. She comes out to sit on his lap when I take him out too. My husband is very understanding and knows I like dolls around me. My dog has sniffed them a bit, but moves on, so no problem with pets.

    37. I bought a little wicker chair and they both fit just right next to each other.

    38. My girl sits in my lap while I'm at the computer, usually, and next to me wherever else I happen to be. When I'm not home, she's on a doll stand waaay up high, where my kitties can't get to her, just in case. I've been considering taking her places with me lately. Places where I would never have to put her down only, though, unless it's like... to dinner. That'd be okay.

    39. Some are in the glass cabinet and some are in their boxes for now. Hope to put them all together in the bigger glass cabinet when the new house is done. And I always have at least one on my computer desk too.

    40. Six has his own bed on the floor, right now. But he will have a whole shelf dedicated to him when I get back to school. XD

    41. Mine are in chairs on the floor or standing on shelves. I have 2 cats and they are fine with them. When I adopt a new resin kid, they may sniff and introduce themselves, but other than that they don't bother them at all. If you're going to have them standing invest in a good doll stand as cats tend to jump around and your doll may fall just from vibrations. I have some good stands and they have never fallen over even when my cat has jumped directly next to them.

      Nancy

    42. my girl has a little lined basket that i cover up with her blanket -- my cats never bother with her! her dresser and mirror she has right to the side, against the wall. if i get another doll, i'm not sure what i'll do! i hope to have more space, soon... limiting myself to MSD-sized folk for now. :)

    43. my dolls are currently staying in a drawer away from direct sunlight and dust.. I can not enjoy them anytime this way, but hopefully one day they will have their own pleasent place, still thinking about the best one..

    44. I've got a cat, I'm paranoid from reading other cat/doll stories that he might try to eat my doll when she finally arrives! I was thinking about getting a glass case for her but I haven't had any luck finding one big enough to fit a 65-70cm doll ><
Currently I have a space on my desk in mind for her - once I get the sewing machine and costume material moved! I'll have to sunproof it unfortunately.
I'm also thinking - I may have to rearrange my room again as I plan on getting at least one more doll next year and I don't want to run out of room! What do you guys do when you 'run out of room'? I might have space for a box or two on the floor if I clear some other boxes out of the way first xD

    45. My dolls own my desk, they are surrounding my laptop and whenever I use it, they all looks like staring at me haha! XD
when I think that I will be gone too long (i.e. trip, conferences) I put them in their box with stacks of pillows and cushions

    46. Most of my dolls are in my room standing and sitting everywere but when my room gets a make-over(when I have the time to do that) I entend to use one or two shelfs for them.
Two of my doll are sitting in the livingroom on a garden bench, because my mom thinks it's cute :D:D

    47. Mine sits on my vanity/dresser, because I can admire her there all the time. I almost feel like she's watching over my stuff that way ><

    48. Well I don't have my little boy yet :D but when he comes in, I'm not really sure! I will probably keep him sitting on my desk... or in his box, on my desk, where I feel he is safe ^.^ I have pets, but my door is constantly shut so he'll be ok up there. I think it depends on the mood I am in... I think mostly he'll be sitting on my desk so I can see his beautiful face :D

    49. My girls live in the glass display case in my room. They're so big (or the case is so small) that each takes up one whole level of the case!

    50. I actually have a bed for my two tinies but I'm not entirely sure about the black material I used for the sheets (it's been through the wash once so far, thinking another time or two will do the set good), so for now I just cart them out to the little dolly couch by my computer every morning, and then back into my room at bedtime where they have a spot on a table with soft pillows. My neighborhood is kinda not-great so I'd rather not leave them out in the living room at night. I refuse to pack them away in boxes, that's not what I bought them for, and the same will go for future dollies.

    51. Mine sleeps in his box with a mattress i made him and a blanket, although i have him sit in a bit saucer chair most of the time and put him away when I am out or when I am asleep so kitties don't bother him.

So far the worst thing that the cats have done is sit in his lap. My one cat actually crawled into his lap while he was sitting in his saucer chair and looked up demanding to be pet. Both parties were very confused and I quickly removed her.

I am looking at childrens chairs and found a small couch and a small saucer chair that would work wonderfully as a doll sized chair except they are covered in cartoon characters. Unfazed I am attempting to cover them with something more appropriate. For some reason I really like the way he looks sitting in his chair with a little book. Also I lack any skill with wood to make him a chair of his own.

    52. Mine all live on cupboards in my livingroom. They have there own couch.
I would like to have them sit nearer to the ground, because sometimes it's a bit difficult to get them up there since I'm not the tallest person. Sadly I can't because of my pet rats. They would definitely chew on them XDD

    53. I keep my resin dolls on display on a shelf. But for my vinyl Dollfie Dreams, I always remove their clothes and put them away in their boxes because I am afraid of staining. I actually plan on making some white (non-staining material) robes so that I can still keep those dolls out too eventually.

    54. Mine have their own little comfy space in my closet. :)

    55. I have a "billy" from ikea , with the glass doors. So the ones that are not on display yet ( that'd be all of them right now) lie on their own shelf each. I have only 70cm dolls.
It does loot a tiny bit creepy:lol: for somebody not used to bjd's, perhaps, I'll change the doors to the non-transparent one day !

    56. Mine recently got their very own room! My kids are now sharing the "big boy" bedroom, so I converted the nursery into my office...which means it's full of dolls :) The Puki got two shelves of the built-in book shelf as her house, and the LTF has a cube-shelf room box. The others just kinda hang out on shelves/the desk waiting for me to finish their environments.

    57. Mine kinda live on a shelf that doesn't get sunlight, surrounded by calaveras and stuff. When I move, however, I plan on making a doll-size bedroom for them.

    58. Mine is currently just sitting on my computer desk. I'm hoping to make her a little room or spot with some furniture and props in the near future, as soon as my husband makes me that crafting desk he keep promising, and telling me not to start any projects until it's done...
