How do you keep your dolls?

Dec 26, 2006

    1. Do you make a house for them? A living room? A glass cabinet?

I'm going to put mine up on a shelf because of my cats-- I know Paddy would just LOVE to get into them. They'll have a little room up there with chairs and hopefully a bed.

So how do you keep yours?

    2. I'm paranoid so I cover them up and put them back in their box.

    3. Mine is sleeping on his bag and he stays with me next to my comp when I'm here because I haven't place at all~
But I'd so like to have a bigger place for him, with a bed and many other things =D

    4. Mine will probably have to remain in her bad on a shelf for a while until I figure out what my cats will do.

Once I have that thought out, I'll probably get beds and couches and whatnot.
Aw, Shin, I'm sure you'll find space for him eventually. ^_^

needoll- I'm going to be paranoid with my cats. One is a troublemaker. 0.o

    5. The headboard of my bed is more like a shelf with cubby (however you spell that) holes, and I've cleared the top of it off.
When my Nana gets here, she'll sit up there.

    6. I never have any room (I'm having a hard time figureing out where to stick my laptop when I'm not using it!) but probably mine will take up the top space on my book shelfs when I get him, until I have more room or surface space to give him. Getting my own roon with it's own furniture will make a huge diffrence ^_^; I want to get a nice and pretty chair for him (or more than one if I get the others sooner). Something in a pretty green... :)

    7. I've prepared my doll his own bedroom. I still trying to get ready for when he arrives lol

    8. Mine go everywhere never have they seen the inside of their boxes after they came out. They have travel bags, and tons of furniture (desks, tables, chairs, beds, sofas, etc...) Typically if they aren't running around with me they are sitting impatiently by the sewing machine waiting for things to get made. lol

    9. they stays wherever he happens to be >-< table, couch, chair, floor... as long as they arenยดt in a dangerous spot.... i usually keep them on my desk, or my bed, or the floor by the TV.... as long as i donยดt think theyยดll get hurt, i donยดt really care where they are.. xD

    11. Mine stand by me at my desk, I am on the computer a lot. But they also stay in doll stands, I am not having anyone take a nosedive off my desk. When I take a lot of photos then I stand them without.

    12. They lay on the unused side of my bed, covered up and all, like in bed. ^^

    13. Wow. You all have so many different places you keep them! 0.o;;
A question: do any of you have cats that try to get into your dolls? How do you respond to that?

    14. While I'm at university my boys have a shaded spot in my room, where they all sit together on their little sofa. When I'm at home during the holidays, they always stay in my room in a box covered with blankets to protect them from the sun and the cigarette smoke from my parents :ablah:

    15. Since I have Soren I just close my bedroom's door everytime I get out.
I'm really afraid of what my cat could do with my boy T_T
      -Ow ow bad english sorry~-

    16. I normally keep Lucy with me or sitting on my desk besides my bed. Normally she sleeps on my bed. ^^

    17. They currently sit on a pile of Japanese magazines covered by a blanket, next to my bed. Space is VERY tight in my room, but I will be moving into the basement in January and will have all the room in the world. So, I hope to expand to having a table, or at least a couch, and a small "home" as it were for them :)

    18. Shutting the door is a good idea. Poor kitties might not be able to sleep with me... Nah. I can't live without my kitties. I'll have to keep them on the highest shelf in my room.

    19. I keep two of my boys on my night stand, and the other two boys and my girl on a couch near the table. Once I get my Cyndy boy I'll have to get more furniture :sweat

    20. Dante is currently perched on a doll-sized dresser, Nola and Lolli are laying in the half-finished bed I am working on for them, and Veruca's headless body (her head is away for a faceup) is on a doll lounge on a shelf in the living room. My two little ones were staying in a curio cabinet, but when I took them out and they smelled like the wood that was the last of that. So now they sit on top of a shelving unit. So really, they all just sit where they end up. I couldn't put my babies away in boxes, I want to look at 'em all day! ^_^

    21. My cat and my room mate's cat are pretty uninterested in the dolls. The only time they get knocked off is when the kitties try to get into the window behind my bed (which has REALLY thick curtains and besides never gets much light, so I never really have to worry about sunlight) by getting on the headboard, where I sometimes keep my dolls. A few times this has resulted in dolls on my boyfriend and I's heads in the middle of the night, but otherwise no damage done (aside from the occasional headache!). The cats thankfully never attack the dolls, so leaving them out in the open is safe! :eusa_pray

    22. So shelves seem the best bet for keeping dolls on, then. This is my first, you see, and want to get lots of input!

    23. My dolls usually sit on the top of my bookshelf (it's a short bookshelf) when I'm not doing anything with them. Sometimes one or both of them sit on the corner of my desk, but my desk is pretty small, so usually if I'm working on something they have to move so I can spread books out.

I don't have a cat at my apartment, but when I was living with my parents our cat never bothered the doll (I only had one then) except to sit on her occasionally. He just likes to sit on things. All kinds of things.

    24. There's exactly one place in the house that I know the cats can't get to (or at least are not smart enough to get to): the very top shelf of my manga bookshelf, over by my computer desk.

So that's where my dolls are. I'm not stupid. :sweat

    25. I keep mine on top of my sister's dresser since it's taller than mine but that doesnt seem to deter my kitty Bailey. He's stubborn as a mule and gets up there anyway. He really enjoys grooming their wigs. But then again,he's a little OCD and grooms just about everything obsessively. He also likes to sleep on their laps if they are left on the bed but he never hurts them.

    26. Wow, so many people have cats. I only have pets that spend most of their time contained. Only two birds, a turtle, and a hermit crab.

Dashiell has his own side of my room, with a wardrobe, a lounge chair, a storage chest, and his box turned into a bed. He has a ton of plushies, books, and other trinkets in his room too.

    27. My boys sit right next to me on my desk unless I decide to carry them around the house~Otherwise, they sit on the desk and look pretty :3 It's a nice shady little spot for them and I know they're safe there when I leave the house!

    28. My dear Kaye is currently sitting in her chair on my desk when I can't take her around. Though I am thinking bout making her a little up away from the devil kitty <3

      Good luck!

    29. I think mine will sleep next to me, on a makeshift bedside table I have (a box XD). My cats might try to chew her up, but I keep my door closed so it probably won't be a problem. Once I get my room re-done, I'll be making her her own little room out of a box.

I'll remove the top and front so there's plenty of light and I can get to her. And I'll give her some furniture and stuff. ;D

    30. my kids have a spot up on top of my bookshelf bordered by foamboard and decorated to be thier bedroom

    31. Harumatsu tends to be where-ever I am... At the moment, he's sitting here on CodeMonkey's computer desk, right beside me. The others have various places around our living room. The tops of bookshelves, the countertop between the living room and the kitchen, a little sofa on the end table... That sort of thing.

Since this tribe of mine is getting pretty big, I've considered moving some of them to the bedroom and library rather than having everyone out at once... but I sort-of like being able to see all of them when I'm home.

We do have two cats, but neither of them are especially interested in the dolls. ^_^

    32. On the top of one bookshelf in my room there's a doll-sized couch, and the "Hunters" (Rose, her adopted son Tim, and her boyfriend Nic) sit on that. On the top of bookshelf on the other side of the other side of the room is a nice metal chair for Lord Mandali (because if he got near the Hunters, they'd fight ;) ), and on the shelf below him live Keitaro and Tsukiko, as well as Keitaro's wolves and the two dragons that seem to have latched on to Tsukiko.

My cats aren't allowed in my bedroom, however, so I'm afraid I'm not very helpful there.

    33. my dolls....... are currently occupying my desk and chair. i can't afford any extra space for them.

so.... they sit on my chair and desk every night and i sleep with them staring me constantly........ :barf

    34. Hello!!!!!my boy just out grow is living space, so i went down to LOWE'S(i love that place because thats my last name:lol: ) and bought him a larger dresser that has plenty of room for his clothes and crap. a little bit ago i was so lucky to nail a doll size painting couch at an antique mall. It cost 75$$$$, but but who care's.

he also as a fur rug ;)Rudolph perfer's to stand most of the time so
i nailed the back of his new dresser to the wall so it wont fall off too easy (a month ago my 2 cats got into a fight and knock him off his first shelf)

i'm hopping to soon be getting another doll, i think i'll just have to buy her, her own shelf because Rudolph has to much stuff on his:lol:

    35. I actually have a place in my bedroom, next to my bed just for my dollies. I have an antique doll bed (that's been in my family for about 4 generations) that I made a new mattress, sheet set & comforter for. They actually are tucked in at night (yes, I actually tuck them in). Why? I guess it's the 'mom' part of me.. hehe. Force of habit. ;D

Next to that, is a roller drawer (plastic), which houses all of their clothes, shoes, wigs, and accessories. Atop it, is a wood chair, where during the daytime, Naoko has claimed. ^_^

Next to that, is a blue pinstripe upholstered chair, where Toharu and Nyoko sit together in. Of course, they have a little table, where they keep their glasses and drinks. heh.

Next to THAT, is an antique doll bunkbed for mini's. (Yo's and smaller) Koneko likes to sit on the top bunk, with her legs hanging down. While Kumiko sleeps in the bottom bunk with the 2 color knit blanket I've made for her. It came complete with mattresses and pillows! ^_^

And finally next to THAT is a mini table and chair, for Kumiko to play in during the daytime. *nodnod*

Now, about 2-3 paces from them, is a TV stand with our LCD, that has a frosted glass cabinet containing all of their glass items in it. ^_^

During the daytime they sit out, at night they go to bed. *nod* I DO have 2 cats, to which, when I place them in the bed, the smaller of the 2 tries to snuggle with. And when they're in their chairs, the larger tries to snuggle on their laps (it's all too adorable). And when they aren't in the bed, or on the chair, the cats are keeping their place warm. lol.

Now, depending on the day, I DO have a spot with a dolly couch and some other decor in my frontroom too. It just really depends on what's going on. Typically they're out when company is over. *nod*

Whoo, that was a mouthful. LOL. :sweat :sweat

    36. I have the top of a dresser and a desk free for Thalia when I finally get her body-right now, her head just sits safely near my bed. I'm planning on getting her and her future friend some furniture-I really love the idea of those cute 'lil doll-couches! <33

    37. Most of my kids live in a big glass cabinet arranged with furniture & props. Several more live on the bookshelves & I don't know where I'll put the ones on order. I'm out of room! Guess I need to sell some more dolls to free up another shelf in the cabinet.

    38. My girls don't have a house or anything, they lie in their boxes on my bedroom floor, except for the Obitsu hybrid, who stands (love those magnet feet! )

      • x 1
    39. I usually keep my doll on my desk, where she can sit out of the sunlight and yet still be visible to me.

As for the concern of cats, my cat (who is the type who needs to get into everything and investigate everything) has not even shown the least inclination to even sniff my girl, and this is when she is even down on a little seat on the floor! I don't think most cats really care about dolls, unless some kind of smell they are attracted to/repelled by gets onto the dolls' clothes or wigs.

    40. Squirt bottle. Works like a charm. I have several around the room. I also keep the mohair-wigged ones up higher, to avoid too much temptation.

Mine are on my desk, on the bookshelf, posing as a centerpiece for the dining table, or in the dollhouse (the tinys, that is). They never see their boxes once they're here, those get stored.

    41. I have a vanity table I never use; it's built in in the bedroom and has become her home. When I have furnishings etc they will fit there. Meanwhile she perches on a box and seems content with it. (Mind you, it's a velvet box. Only the best for my Lishe's little butt.) XD

    42. My doll has pillows, couch and chair...and yet his favorite spot is the top shelf of my bookshelf. :)

    43. Yu and Imelda sit on my nightstand, with my betta fish and my random Guan Yu statuething. XD It's a bit crowded up there, so sometimes I set them in their boxes, which are right by my desk.

    44. Orly sits on top of my stereo unless I decide to cuddle with him when I go to bed. I'd put him on my shelf with my other dolls but theres no room right now. This summer I hope to get a better shelf unit and put some of my other collections partially in storage.

    45. They sit on a trunk in a "living room" sort of area. They are waiting on some better furniture, though.

    46. We have an old rectangular table that used to be in the kitchen that I'm setting up for Cora. I'm making a little room for her. Painted walls with curtained windows, wooden floor, chairs and tables, etc. I've even found some adorably cute scale picture frames to put on the walls. ^_^

Now if I can just find/make a bookcase for her, and the books to fill it, everything'd be perfect!

    47. Hm. Jay's usually near by for now. I'm still in the new doll owner stage. Course, when I'm sleeping, he's usually perched in his purple crate that's nailed to the wall. Keeps the cat from trying to gank his hands. >.>;

    48. Misaki sits on a stack of CDs when I'm surfing the net/chatting/watching dramas/surfing forums etc. XD She's looking at the screen while I type this~ I don't have a bed for her yet so when I sleep at night she sleeps next to me too :'D sometimes she's on the shelf with my MLP and some soft toys too XD

    49. I bought a book shelf for my dolls, so they can live in different stories and save space in my tiny apartment. I really hope I have more room so I can have more space to put their sofa and furnitures.

    50. The boys are bookshelf dwellers, both at home and in my dorm room. When they're not on the bookshelf, they're usually sitting on the desk beside my computer, to keep me company while I'm working or chatting online. :3

    51. Most of the time my guys are on the bed. I have a huge bed. But they have chairs and I will take them around the house or by where I work (their chairs are by my computer). Their clothes and accessories are in their boxes for the most part. Although Ryu has a draw of his very own because he has too much stuff.

    52. well.. when I get my Kraven he's going to have to sleep beside me because I have no room at all for a bed or furniture for him.. nor is there room on my dresser or any shelves for him since my Apple Dolls and porclain dolls take up all the room XD.. luckily I have a queen size bed.. but we will be moving soon so maybe I might have a bigger room *prays* then I can make him stuff.. though he may still end up sleeping beside me.. as for my cat thank goodness she's lazy and just lays around all day.. she shows no interest in any of my things so i'm not worried about her messing with my boy.

    53. Well my crew was on top of my dresser but right now they're downstairs on the floor. Some are on stands, some sitting on boxes or on a couple of turned over stair-case baskets. GraeMor & my F-31 are sitting on a doll-sized gossip bench I found. They're currently all playing "headboard" to the pallet I'm sleeping on for my bad back. I recently acquired a case for my Bella, as well as a chair & small chest for her. Molly is going to move into my dollhouse when I get it moved over here.

As for the cats, other than occasionally furring them when they rub against them *the odd things belong here, therefore we must fur them to make certain they know it* they pretty much ignore them. Except when I'm trying to take pics which is when Xena decides she must "help" by getting in the shot.

      Morgan

    54. I know 2 of my cats are going straight for Hodoo's fingers as soon as he arrives... ( ;_; they've proved it with figurines) It might not be best to leave your doll pointing/have any finger raised up.. or toes!

Cats have trouble getting to the higher shelves of book-cases, if you have one store them there~ also, introduce your cat to the doll to stop any 'cat inquision' ie: poking, shoving, chewing..EATING! XP

Everyone's cats so far seem well behavied..... c_c; mine eat mohair...

    55. Mine live on the on the table next to my bed, either sitting on my music player or stading around it kind of.

    56. Mine are sitting in a bookshelf, but I would like to buy a "little" table for make them a kind of mini-room... it would be nice ^^.

    57. Well while I was living at my dad's house Lucine had a bed on my headboard and the boys were in a dresser drawer (most so I wouldn't mess them up) now that I am back at my house Lucine has either been coming with me to work or sleeping on the other half of my bed tucked in with some stuffed animals  once we get more of them we are thinking of building them a house :)

    58. Ryu follows me around the house when I'm home, and when not I just stick her back in her box (poor girl, I wish she had a nice bed or something XD)

    59. I have nine cats and I have never had any trouble with them concerning my dolls. They kinda ignore them. They sniffed them when they first arrived but after I started playing with them they ignored them. Never had any try to hurt them.
My three sit on the little sofa on an end table. I have more chairs and they could each have their own but them seem to like the sofa better.

    60. I have a pair of antique doll beds that belonged to my mother; we've roped them together with a new matress, and all three curl up there together :XD

      Hen: NOT BY CHOICE. T_T

During the day, when they're up and around, we each have a chair or sofa on our desks for our individual dolls <3 Eventually there's plans for a coffin for Caer, maybe even a doll-sized church that can be taken apart and put together. Eventually.

As for cats: We have six. For the most part they leave the dolls alone; the only one who's had a run-in with them is Caer (Homme Ducan) who had his wig knocked off. I'd advise covering wigs at night (we just use their blankets), or putting them somewhere the kitties can't reach.
