How do you cope with the waiting?

Sep 6, 2009

    1. Well, after the crazy BJD dreams stop (naked BJDs, receiving two BJDs unlike what you ordered...)

I check the order status a lot, I continue my research, and I count the days (I used to have a blog for it).

    2. i try just not to think about it, and concentrate on other things, so when you get a shipping notice, its like "Holy bejesus, i have a doll coming!"

    3. Thinking about their characters and story. I plan and find their wig, eyes and shoes that suit characters. Sewing clothes so when they arrive, they won't naked.

I only check order status after a month past.

    4. I have that problem right now xDD
for my first doll (and the dolls I ordered second hand), I would just look at a lot of pictures all day long thinking about what i'll do with him(or her).
for second hand doll it doesn't hurt to look at pic, since it takes about 2 weeks to get here. the wait isn't killing xD
but now, I ordered from the site. it's been over a year i didn't do that so i'm not used to wait anymore.. xD staring at pics is just driving me insane so I try to forget I ordered him and look for clothes... ^_^ for my current boys and a bit for him too :3

    5. lol, I'm not sure you'd call what I do "coping.' I'm waiting on 3 dolls right now, with the first ordered over 2 months ago, and the wait is slowly driving me crazy... After I've picked out names, and have a basic feel for the character, there isn't much left to do but count the days...

    6. What not to do: (what i am guilty of)
      1. spam DoA
      2. Check email every day
      3. get excited in waiting rooms and then get let down when everyone else is getting theirs but not you
      4. check DoA every day
      5. Have a huge supply of material to make a ton of clothes for a doll you dont have
      6. Continuing to check email every day

On week 9 of my order, it's anytime now, and i cant check order status since its via DDE

    7. Not well. And my friend in this hobby that I complain too and get excited with about incoming dolls constantly tells me I probably shouldn't be in this hobby because of it. lol. though, I know she doesn't really mean it. ;)

    8. ive yet to order my first doll (four days away) and its already driving me insane.
sadly though i find myself sleeping to pass the time quickly. (which mind you i know is not very healthy) but it works for me in some odd way.
i just know that once i do order him the waiting is going to become even worse. i hate waiting for things.

    9. hmm the first thing I do when I have a new doll on the way is buy them socks. o.o; I also comb Jo-ann's fabrics for remnants! I make tiny pillows for the dollie play pen >...>; which I made waiting for another doll to come. I pick out their wigs and think of things that they might need.... usually after I purchase a doll I get stir crazy and go over board with ordering little things online for them... when I get the tracking number I compulsively check it 6-12times a day. But because I have ordered other things I have other tracking numbers that I can check to cheer me up when there's been no progress (which is the standard). If you have 6different things in the mail there's a chance at least ONE of them has had an update on any given day.

Making tiny pillows helps... or things you can take pictures of them in front of... >...> I've been building a kind of landscape.... like a background for them to be around but 3dimensional. It has peacocks. And a cherry blossom tree. Right now its in front of their bed but I just bought a second hand long desk thing that will be a huge area set up for them to sit on. ^^; I'm kind of awful at waiting so I need things to keep me occupied when I've got those rare days off!

I'm waiting on my Angel Fantasy girl to be delivered to me: she's inbound out of US customs XD but since no one buys AF dolls there's no one in the waiting room I made so be all bubbly with. They make really beautiful dolls o.o I don't understand why no one buys them. I'm also waiting on a Custom house doll........and that's the wait that's killing me because I just don't know if we'll end up canceling because of their bad rep right now. @.@ in short; I am a HORRENDOUS WAITER!

    11. I ordered my first doll from Fairyland about a week and a half ago. I'm kind of going crazy, but knowing it will probably take her about 4 months to get to me, I'm just trying to keep occupied. I write stories about her, design cute fairy clothes for her, order cute clothes for her, roam the stores, internet and DoA marketplace, looking for tiny accessories. I also paint, swim twice a week, spend time with my kids & hubby, and call my best friend in Alabama, who listens patiently and supportively to my endless chatter about dollies. I'm thinking of getting some sculpey clay so I can start sculpting some tiny accessories.

I think, for me, creativity is the answer. The more I am creative everyday, the time flies by.

      I haven't checked my order status yet...maybe I'll do that today ;)

I got a package of clothes, and another package of tiny toys, the other day and that helped tremendously...for about a day. Now I'm back to waiting. But I WILL conquer this...*sobs*

    12. I simply check every day to see if they have shipped out or not, and then when they do ship out, not look at the expected date of arrival, and try to forget about it so that it will be a surprise when it drops on my doorstep. :3

    15. I usually don't have any problems with waiting. Though I guess this is because I don't join waiting rooms all the time.

For my Dark and Bygg, I joined those and it's just makin me more nervous xD It helps with waiting but also kills patience, especially when there are shipping notices xD
It was less hard with Dark, the hard part only started when he was shipped... and was taken hostage by our customs >.>

Atm I have 2 heads and a body on their way. The heads were ordered about 4 montsh ago (minimee that I won during a lottery, can't complain :p) and a minifee body, ordered 2,5 months ago.
I try not to think about it too much, but get horribly annoyed when I don't see a regular update...
But yeh, at least I don't spam them every day xD

For the rest I keep checking forums, chat with people and spend time with my other dolls ^^

    16. I just ordered my first doll a couple days ago, so I can really relate. The doll is in stock, but I have to have him on layaway for a while until I have enough money to pay for him fully. I know it won't be till July or August that he actually arrives. In the meantime I want to work on his name, personality, come up with a wardrobe, that sort of thing. :) That should pass the time till my baby comes home.

    19. How do I cope with the waiting? Wait...what is this word, "cope"? I don't think I know it.

Really though. My main coping mechanism in life has always been escapism. I try my best to distract myself with books, movies, anything to cease being me and become someone else for a while. Someone who isn't waiting impatiently for 3 dolls to arrive. :p

      P. s. - it doesn't work.:...(

    21. My husband likes to put it out of his mind when he orders a bjd, but I like to wake up every morning and say "I'm so excited!"
I like to sew outfits while I wait, even just with measurements if there's nobody to fit it to. I also look at pictures of the same doll in different styles and imagine how mine will look after I make her unique. Last but not least I like making a space for the doll, a nice scenery, a place for the doll to sit.

    22. I'm terrible when it comes to waiting for things! I just got my first two SSDFs recently, and I could barely stand the wait time. It's hard even a bit hard for me for a limited doll to ship...I really need to work on my patience. *_*

Really, what seems to hold me over when I'm anxious for something to arrive is to just take it in stride and not dwell on how long it's going to take. Keep yourself busy and your doll will be there before you know it.

    24. Distract yourself with Disney movies. ^^

If you can't distract yourself, then think of some names.
Sew a simple outfit for them.
Look for a wig and a pair of eyes if you haven't gotten those.
      Brainstorm their character.
      Doodle a picture of them.

      That's all I did. :)
      Then again, I only had to wait a week for my boy to come in... xD;

    25. Not in this order, but...

      -Watch/look at box openings

      -window shop for more dolls

      -clothing/wig/accessory shop

      -look at lots of faceups

-"earn" the doll with hard work for good karma [I think this way too!]

      -go hang out with friends

      -read manga/watch anime or TV

-go do other hobbies you like

-play buttonmashing video games [This one works great!!]

-tire myself out so I'll go do homework

Still waiting...it just gets depressing sometimes. xD But when you get the doll, it'll be all better!

    26. I have a pipos charlotte on layaway now and I desperately want to pay her off RIGHT NOW and have her teleported to me D:

However, since I can't do that (yet) I have my boyfriend help distract me or pokes holes in my rationalizations for paying her off now xD (I have the money to pay her off now, but I have to finish my other dolls outfits first. Dx I pretty much just have to make legging and flats for Amadine.)
Coping is hard D: The only reason I haven't paid her off yet is because I just got the birthday/easter money to do so, but I fear my parents would care. Which they probably wouldn't. xD

EDIT:Finished Amadine's outfit and then told my parents about her and they were excited to see her thinking I already had her in my room. I told them I didn't pay her off yet, to which they asked, "Why??" xD I paid her off and she will hopefully be here sometime next week.

    38. I'm in on the last few hours of waiting for my girl, it's the last few days that are the worst. Though this time I'm not checking my tracking number every ten minutes.... it's now every hour. BUT! that doesn't mean I'm not excited. I try to get things ready in this time. make sure I have a set of cloths, hunt down a wig (failed at that this time) and make sure I know how I want to keep her. Emily my big girl she's on my dresser and I think I'll be keeping Yoko there too, we shall see. Also in this time I write a story about their travels. Emily's had about ten pages long starting with her at Bobobie. It was a sad story because she thought no one wanted her. But for Yoko's she has a crazy adventure with G.I Joes who try to keep her in her box. I write a page per day they are shipped and then when they get there I'm done with a short story and I have a doll, killing two birds with one stone. ^.^

    41. I'm going a bit nuts waiting to hear any kind of news about the boys I've got on layaway. Though depending on when they arrive, they still won't be 'mine', they'll be hiding in the back of the closet until I earn them from myself...

Well, if they take long enough to get here, I might get all my housework/furniture moving/cleaning/redecorating finished before they arrive...

Unlike when I was waiting for Vince, though, at least this time around I can always work on/sew for/photograph/cuddle the doll I have at home while I wait... I just bought some fabrics to do his bed and make him a blouse-- if he's got enough of a wardrobe built up, maybe he'll be nice and share with the new guys (well, with the new guy who will be able to fit into Vince's spare shirts, at least)

    45. I thought I was doing really well with the wait, until I hit the 5 month mark. I still have another month left to go or more. So at first I was really patient, now I'm getting very anxious. But to me a Dollshe Saint is worth it (especially with 1/2 off discount). There are others who have been waiting twice as long as me, so I am by no means complaining. Just tired.

I just want to have him already. Ii've been obsessing over eyes, wig, clothes, face-up artists... etc. Sadly, the excitement and glitter of a BJD had almost completely diminished after waiting this long. I'm glad that I've rekindled the excitement again by looking at other beautiful pictures of Saints and owner pictures that are slowly being posted of the DS Pure Body. One of the best-looking male bodies I've ever seen :D
