Its story time. Share your personal stories of something that has happened to your doll or a friends doll. Doesnt have to be like scary horror. It can be a time where it seemed bad but you laugh about it now. Heres mine. I was fast asleep when this happened and it scared the crap out of me. It wasn't long after my first doll lorelei arrived and I had her sitting on my self, which is now her little "house". It was probably closer to midnight when I heard a loud crash. I hadnt been asleep long so I was still lucid at the time. Well I knew the sound came from the area of my shelf so i shined my phone over where I heard the noise. My girl who had been sitting stable on my self had somehow fallen and had collided with a couple other items and made all the noise. I checked to see if she was alright and then moved her. Nothing could have pushed her and I still have no idea how she fell
I once had one of mine in a blue storage container for temp housing and i always keeped them in the pillow, i asked my sister to grab him and she just grabbed the pillow and he slipped out and landed on his head. ( he had a few scuffies but I buffed it out.
I was shooting a photostory outside and sat one of the dolls on the edge of the table and he managed to slip off onto the ground, fortunately there was a carpet instead of gravel beneath him. He came out with only twisted joints. DSCF6148 by SteamWitch BJDmama, on Flickr
Ever have to pick tiny hair-thin cactus needles out of your doll's clothing for half-an-hour? But the worst one so far is when I took Rin with me to Albuquerque, and had a bit of a situation in the motel - I had dropped my MP3-player just outside my door while carrying everything in, and made the mistake of trying to toss Rin onto my bed and then catch the door before it closed (it was too heavy to prop open). I missed exactly what happened, but he must have landed feet first or something, causing a bit of a rebound. He didn't just bounce off either, he somehow managed to fling his wig, glasses, and headcap all in different directions!
I was walking with my doll and tripped. My dresser drawer was slightly open and his hand went in, my body weight pushed the drawer closed, and his fingers snapped off.
I left one of my girls in her pillow in her box under a table because I was sewing for her and needed her close by for fitting, then one day I had pushed the table aside for some reason and stumbled and landed with my foot on the box - without leaning my full weight on it, but still - and I didn't dare to open the box for a week because I was so ashamed of being exactly as clumsy as everyone think I am. The only thing hurt apart from my ego, though, was two fingers on one hand and while emailing the company to order another hand I glued the fingers on and managed to get a better result than I thought possible, so I didn't bother to get a new hand yet. ^^
After I moved to my new house I kept my dolls in various rooms, trying to keep them from getting too hot. Upon the turn of the seasons I moved them into the back bedroom and balanced them on top of a box. One night, about a month ago, I got down on my hands and knees to dig around in my dolls' clothing bin for a pair of tights that I thought I'd lost. Then CLUNK, my sleeve snagged on a doll foot and one of my boys landed on my head! I don't know if any of y'all have ever had an MSD boy land on your head, but I can guarantee that it doesn't tickle. No permanent damage was done, but Johnny scuffed an eyebrow in the fall and I had a knot on my head. Not a huge calamity, but I try to preserve my dolls' face-ups so the scuff ticked me and the overall experience scared me a bit. I've since moved the dolls to a more secure spot so this won't happen again. The tights that I feared lost turned up in the wrong drawer.
I actually have another to add -.-' My dolls are horrible at staying on their shelf for some reason. This one actually happened to my boy Faelyn. It was actually 2am on christmas day and I was just getting to sleep. Faelyn's stringing is loose on purpose since I was going to show a friend how to restring her doll and I figured his S hook are pretty stable but boy was I wrong. His S hook slipped out of his string somehow and all of his pieces tumbled to the floor. I litterly woke to a head rolling aross my room. My christmas present to him and Lorelei was putting him back together to let them get some christmas cuddles lol
A friend of the family found out I was looking for artists who could do aesthetics, and he has his own dolls, so he offered to do mine for free. Now Sonia was my first doll, and I chose her company because I had seen a similar doll yellow beautifully. She was supposed to be an 18th century lady and I chose her factory aesthetics for that reason. No body blushing or nails, just my pretty girl with the sort of rouge that might have been considered natural beauty in 1790's Russia. But, I was also broke, so I agreed. I chickened out about taking her head off, so I sent all of Sonia, in her clothes, hoping that would prevent any confusion. I just wanted her smudged eyebrow repaired. Months go by and I start worrying. So I message him and ask if things are okay. Yes, he's just been busy. Okay, fair. I understand that. But now I'm desperate. The pictures he sends me look okay, but I think it may have been lighting and I'm too shy to tell him to take off the blushing and that I just want her to look as she did. Finally, he asks me if I want her to have hair "in the basement" (trying to keep this pg). I found my voice and said no thanks. But I told myself that the blushing would be cute. Finally, I get her back. Maybe it was buyer's remorse, but... he'd taken off her beautiful yellow tone. The pink blushing was very bright and I tried to be polite, but I missed the old Sonia. Moral: never be shy about talking to people about your wants. I make these mistakes so you don't have to.
I thankfully don't have too many mishap stories; Aelic has literally bever fallen over that I can remember (he stands like a rock), but Ilya is a little more finicky and his legs are pretty kicky. I was using him as as drawing reference the other day, so he was standing on my desk (naked and headless and with no shoes). I bent my head to sneeze...and then something whacked me on the head. I guess I cushioned Ilya's fall, but it didn't feel too great, and he got a couple little scuffs from my desk, but I should be able to remove them fairly easily. It was kind of distressing at the time though; white skin and a dark desk don't mix well. At least his head wasn't involved. Ilya also does the splits fairly often...I really need to get that boy some socks and shoes.
Oh, I put a deposit down on a puppy (a real one) not knowing I was going to be sick after he was ready to move in with us. So, I was cuddled on the couch, sick with my puppy laying on my lap and a brand new, tiny DZ Mini Megi on the table near me. I fell asleep, and you know what happened. He chewed up Megi's foot, fortunately not swallowing any. Not my smartest or best doll day.
I don't have any horror stories, but I do have a pretty bad experience. I went to a con and from across the floor I saw a tall sign that said they were selling bows. I was pretty interested and as I got close I saw the artist had 2 MSD sized dolls sitting on her table. At this time I had never seen a real BJD in person, let alone met anyone else in the hobby so I walked up and tried to talk to her about it hoping to make a new friend. I didn't even finish my first question before she told me "I don't have time to talk to you" and putting her hand in my face. I was pretty bummed out considering how badly I wanted to be a part of the hobby.
Okay, so this was back in 2014, when i lived in my first apartment with my at the time boyfriend and my still current best friend. We had a little computer desk/art desk area. My bf's computer on the right and my art desk on the left. Now at the time, we had a party a few days prior and had an open bag of soda cans hanging out near my desk, due to our own laziness and waiting on my bf to clean his desk of cans. One day, my friend and i were both at the desks, me at my art desk and he at my bf's desk playing some steam game together. At the time, i had done something no parent should ever do. Ny art desk is a nook with a shelf on top. I had my girl rynne and my boy haru atop this desktop.shelf.rynne was safely sitting in a chair, and i had haru standing up next to her. No stand, no support, just him. What compelled me to even think this was okay, i am still not sure. So this evening, i get up to use the restroom. When i come back, i bump the desk. Low and behold i freeze and watch in shock as haru falls forward and plummets down into the open bag of soda cans. My friend shoots up as i literally cry out in horror and cover my face, in complete shock. My friend says "hold on, hold on, let me get him" to me as he carefully retrieves haru, talking to him soft and gentle. I am already crying, and my friend has to inform me he has busted off a ring finger. This was my first dolly injury, having haru for 6 years, and i imediatly put him away in his box and didnt dare to touch him until i got the hand fixed 2 years later when my wonderful brother was finally able to set it properly. Moral of the story, never leave dollies standing unattended, atop a precarious perch.
My tiny, Veronica was standing with some Puki's at a meet, dressed in her fullset. Now Jun Planning Ai's are pretty top heavy sometimes. Sometimes they just will NOT stay put no matter what you do. She had fallen over twice onto her back on the table. So after I show her to some people I set her down. Someone moved her to put their doll where she was with their props and all. Veronica was then on the very edge of the table but from my view point she was just standing where I left her. Until the table got bumped and I see her fall. I swear my heart skipped a beat. She was only 25 bucks but she was a gift from my dad. She's got sentimental value. She hit the floor too and her head cap popped off. (And the sound she made, I swear I thought her headcap peg had snapped or something) Somehow she fell on her back. I got over to her and picked her up. She was okay, she was missing a shoe and I found it quickly. Fixed her wig and instead of setting her with the other tinies again, I just held her and carried her with me when I walked around. She got better shoes but I had only had her for two weeks at that point. Somehow she didn't have a scratch on her. (And still doesn't) Then the other incident happened, same meetup group different month. We had a bunch of dolls standing together, one of them being my girl Kazumi, a 5StarDoll an Impldoll Centaur a SOOM tiny gem I think? He had horse hooves and a little unicorn horn. And a great big Iplehouse SD boy. We were just standing around talking when the dolls start falling. The centaur goes first and the force shaking the table caused the SD boy to fall and we're all just scrambling to grab our dolls and keep them from falling. (I caught the SOOM boy and had no idea what to do with him because he had body blushing all over and I was terrified of scraping it) The SD hit his owner in the head. When she went to catch him, he headbutted her. He didn't hit the floor though. We got the dolls re situated, most of them were sitting and instead of being in a really cool upright pose the centaur was standing normally. Kazumi was completely forgotten about in the chaos because she has been blank since I got her so I wasn't concerned about her face.
I left my doll at a relatives place in her box for a while and when I got back to her I found out that they were battling a mouse problem! Her og box was inside another box with droppings on it (EWWWWWW) but the box she was inside was untouched thank goodness
Oh I have one. It's something that still kind of freaks me out to this day. So a million years ago (maybe 2010?) we had a doll meet that was winter ball themed. There were tables set up for the ball area and several people set their dolls "dancing". There was also an SD scaled bar set up a little off to the side. This was long enough ago that I didn't own enough stands for my dolls so I had left one of my Kara Klums (known to some as Alex II) standing by the bar unaided. He was leaning on the bar so I wasn't worried about him. Because I am an idiot. In my area there several people with Volks dolls, and many of them are LEs. A lot of these dolls were the ones on the dance floor. Thousands of dollars worth of BJDs....thousands..... I was in the kitchen and heard a crash. Me: OH NO. There was no part of me that wasn't 100% it was Alex....The thing about Dollmore Kara Klums is they're kind of indestructible. Both I(one) and II have face-planted multiple times at doll meets before and never been damaged. So as I heard that crash, it wasn't my doll I had a heart-attack over, it was the many expensive dolls he was standing near. I moved into the living room with my life and all the money in the world flashing before my eyes, and saw a crowd of people surveying the damage. When I finally made it over, I saw Alex (no shock at all) sprawled out on the "floor" (table) in the midst of all the dancers, surrounded by doll food..... He'd missed all the dolls around him and hit the food cart on the way down! So instead of a massive doll dominoes disaster the only victim of his inability to stay on his feet was himself. The people gawking at the carnage were worried my doll had been damaged but I was just like THANK YOU GOD that no other dolls were touched. I would have died right then and there. Since then I have acquired many more stands so this incident has never been repeated. Because seriously just the thought of what COULD have happened is so terrifying it's up there in my top BJD worst nightmares.....
I have a horror story about a mistake I made when I was new to the hobby. When I got my first doll, a Soom Mini Gem in Brown Tan, I had her sitting facing my bedroom window. I didn't realize just how much sunlight this exposed her to, without even a face-up. After some time, months I think, I picked her up and was horrified to realize that her face had faded to a greenish color. So had her hands and lower legs. I moved her out of the sun, thinking I'd just have to blush her face first when I did her face-up. This was back in 2013. In 2016 I tried to do her face-up for the first time. I managed to paint my Puki Pukisha, but the sealent on her face started to chip immediatly. So I wiped it off and set her aside. I didn't try do face-ups again until last summer. I decided to try to fix her uneven resin color before I painted her. I lookthe ed for advice on the Workshop forum about fixing uneven yellowing. I've been working on sanding the seams on another one of my dolls who's an even darker shade of tan made by a different company, so the idea of trying to sand the yellowed green spots back to tan didn't seem like a bad idea. My other doll has gone back to an even color with gentle overall sanding and a Magic Eraser. Soom tan resin does not respond as well to sanding. Where I've sanded has just gotten much lighter, not more even. I was wanting to try a restoration project, but this is not what I had in mind! Sorry Blaze! I hope I can sand all of her and even color and find a way to get her tan again.
There was a doll I used to habe that didnt like me. The moment I decided to give him away, i was on the laptop with him sitting on the shelf next to me. I started to hear a creaking. Very soft. I looked over and the dolls head was SLOWLY turning to look at me. When his head clicked in place to stare at me, his leg shot out and kicked me! I knew he had to go after biting me horribly every time I tried to do anything with him. His new owner says he only moves if she has a man over, like the doll is jealous.
Mine happened last night. My Dollshe Rey Lewis’s head needed to be fixed back on his body and I noticed the magnet was missing. I freaked out and realized it was stuck to the other magnet in his headcap. I went and slotted it back in only then I realized I had put it in the wrong way so now one of the headcap magnets are repelling eachother. I am actually going to try and fix it in a minute after worrying over it all day.
Goodness some of these are awful! My story is more embarrassing than horrifying but still scared me when it happened- Whenever I visit my girlfriend, we go to Yo Sushi and I usually bring a tiny doll to sit with us (gotta get those likes on the 'gram, yo). This past weekend I brought the socially anxious, anti-social Donny with me, and he did not like that at all. I got him out of his carrier and his foot snagged, I lost my grip, and he hit the floor under our booth table. My girlfriend found his wig pretty quickly while I scooped him up and hid him under my hoodie for fear of spooking the general public, when I notice his head back has gone. We're both out of our seats, looking under the furniture, looking under our neighbours furniture, waiters are whispering 'what are they looking for?' and I'm worrying over how to explain to the poor staff how important it is to find a tiny flesh coloured semi-spherical piece of plastic -_- Thankfully a waitress spotted it and Donny stayed under my hoodie until we were ready to leave, he's not forgiven me yet.
Not horror as in boo spooky, but definitely horror as in OMGWTF?!spoiftenulwoghxai. About a month ago I woke up to find that Chaeri's left hand was missing. (I had noticed it was loose the day before and was going to fix it but I had forgotten.) I went insane looking all over the room trying to track it down, searching the chair I'd been sitting in, upending the furniture, crawling under tables, everything. I also had my housemates on the hunt--not because they give two flips about my doll, but because I was upset. I had just decided to give up and order another body (to get the "default" hands) when I happened to look at Chaeri sitting on the corner of the bookshelf next to my chair. Her right arm was hanging straight down (I swear I usually put her hands in her lap when I sit her down) and her remaining hand was pointing straight down to the floor. On a weird impulse I looked at the spot where she seemed to be indicating. I found her missing hand. This was a place where I and at least two other people had looked earlier that day, at various times, and found nothing. Yet there it was, just under the corner of the bookcase, sitting in plain sight. I don't know where it was or how it got there, but Riri was showing me where it was. I sueded her hand post before even fitting it back in. .
I broke my doll's hand and I was so upset. This was about 4 months ago..? Anyways, I had her on my bed in her carrying case, I was about to take her out to dress her. Somehow, my hair or shirt must have snagged the case, because she fell. My bed is up pretty high, but she fell onto the soft carpet, in her case, and wrapped up in her cushion. I looked at her and everything seemed fine, until I noticed a little piece beside her. It was her finger. I was so mad at myself. Luckily, my dad gets tons of glue from his work, and he had some clear epoxy glue. I didn't tell him what happened, I just asked for some glue. He would freak out if he knew I broke something that expensive! My mom helped me glue her finger back on. It doesn't look that great, but I'm getting her some jointed hands soon, and I plan on putting a tattoo on this one to cover it up!
Back when Ryuichi, (OE Luts/CP Delf Shiwoo, the boy in my icon pic) was relatively new, I lived in an old apartment building that had a partial red brick driveway and courtyard in the center of the circle of buildings. The bricks were at least 100 years old, as the garages used to be horse stables. One day, after a hard rain, it was beautiful, still and blue outside, so I decided to take a pic of Ryuichi standing by the "lake" that had formed on the bricks in the driveway. I stood him so that he was gazing thoughtfully over the water. I went to the other side of the "lake" and started taking pics of him. Out of nowhere, a single gust of wind came and knocked him into the water face-first! Now remember, these bricks were at least one hundred years old, so after all those decades in Cleveland, Ohio weather, they were exceedingly hard. I basically leapt over the "lake" and fished him out. I checked poor Ryuichi all over, and found that he had not only broken three fingers off of one hand, but had dented his nose pretty badly! I panicked and after finding his fingers, ran inside and came on here to see what could be done about his poor nose! Shiwoo are known to have sharp, ski slope-shaped noses, so I wasn't the only one that had dented their boy's nose. After asking for help and getting it, I also remembered reading somewhere on DoA that "resin holds it shape and steaming might help it get back to its original shape." I steamed that poor boy's nose something fierce! It got back most of its shape, but the very end just would not go back to its original shape no matter how long I steamed it. So I ended up sanding the very tip. To make matters worse, he had a second Dreaming Shiwoo head that I also had to sand so that they would match when I switched heads. At the time, I wanted Ryuichi to have two different expressions. The second head eventually ended up becoming Ryuma, Ryuichi's identical twin. Both sanding jobs are probably pretty terrible, but to me, my twins both look just fine. Their noses may be flat in spots, and definitely not perfect, but that makes my boys all the more unique in my eyes. Oh, about Ryuichi's broken fingers? It was just the impetus that I needed to finally splurge and buy Ryuichi the jointed hands I had been putting off for about a year. Eventually, Ryuma ended up with Ryuichi's Type 3 Delf body, and Ryuichi got a (at the time) brand-new 2012 Fairyland/CP Feeple 60 body, back when they used to have the option of buying a body without a head. I switched hands from the Feeple 60 body and Type 3, so Ryuma got nice new hands and Ryuichi got to keep his jointed hands. And stuck his broken middle finger inside of his headcap, where it still resides. All's well that ends well! Ryu
I had 3 dolls from like 2011 (when i first joined the hobby or so) and had left the hobby for a couple years because of real life stuff, which meant my dolls had to be packed up. When i moved in with my mother i didn't have any space for them (anywhere haha) and so they had to be packed up with a bunch of other stuff that wasn't gonna be used for a while and literally put on a tall shelf in a giant work shed that had alot of farm animal food. Fast forward couple years, I finally was able to get back into dolls but sadly the shed had become overrun with a rat/mouse infestation. They were everywhere. Once they were dealt with, we started having to go through all of our stuff to see if anything could be salvaged. I didn't even get to see my dolls because everything else packed around them was just... destroyed....my mother's husband went ahead and just chucked out everything. I don't even know if my dolls were in bad shape or not which bothers me. Its very possible they were though. Still makes me sad thinking about it.
I've had two falls before, both pretty terrible. My first doll when I first got him was really kicky, but I was determined to take a picture of him outside on our sidewalk. Well, he faceplanted while I took the picture-- scratched his nose ever so slightly. I was able to sand it out with fine grain sandpaper and you could never tell it was there. But my shame remains... The other time was at a convention. I was running a pannel and had my dolls standing when I saw one wobble in the corner of my eye and I dove for him... I guess there was a breeze because another one fell amost immediately after, which I didn't catch. It was the same doll that fell years before. But thankfully this time onto a carpet... not so thankfully, infront of a room full of people. Needless to say I don't trust any of them without stands now.
More falling stories~ I wanted to do an outdoor photo shoot for a “Fun in the Sun” theme. I found all of these props and set up on a table on the deck. Can’t remember why but I went inside for a bit. During that time Jewel got blown off the table! Luckily there were only minor scuff marks and no damage to her face-up. I was just happy that she didn't get blown off the deck as well! Falling story #2: Had Hazuki propped up on a short step ladder for random photos. She slid off and did a face-plant. I didn’t notice any damage to her face-up at least! I should probably get a stand
I don't know if this counts as a horror story, but it was very scary. I live in southern California in a little town in a valley surrounded by foothills. I'm sure everyone in the US knows that California has brush fires every year during the hot summer months. We even call it Fire Season. Anyway, the fires had never come very close to where I live, but 2 years ago they came very close. We were told to be ready to evacuate any minute.. The first thing I thought of saving was my dolls. I only had one medium size suitcase and a large tote bag. I crammed all my SDs in the suitcase and put as many of the MSDs as i could in the tote bag. Of course I could not fit them all in. I stood there frozen in a panic for what felt like a long time, trying to decide which dolls I could leave behind. The thought of any of them burning up in a fire was horrible. I ended up leaving my 4 YOSDs and 2 of the MSDs on the shelf, but covered them up with plastic bags, since even if the fires didn't come to our house, there might be a lot of smoke. Well, praise God, the fires moved away from town and went into the hills where there were no houses. I left my dolls packed in the bags for a couple more weeks, just in case. I was a nervous wreck the whole time. When it was safe again, and the fires had been contained, I unpacked my dolls. In my panic I had really crammed them in quickly. The dolls were jumbled every which way, limbs askew, clothing twisted and wrinkled, and wigs half off. It was a mess. No damage, but it took a while to get them all back to normal and on their shelves where they belong. After that scare, I bought a bigger suitcase that could hold all of them.
I dropped one of my Soom Petit Gems' little hands in the kitchen and searched that side of the kitchen/ dining room several times without finding it. I thought I would have to order an extra set to replace it, but my mom though it might have gone under the fridge. She moved the fridge away from the wall, and there it was.
During a trip to an other country with 2 of my friends i got the chance to look for one of my dolls (i bought from second hand and have the oportunity to pick her in person) We went out to take pictures at a big park here in Mexico (specifically Mty, in Fundidoras Park) I was playing around looking for the perfect place to take her a picture... I pose her on the top of the restaurant roof...suddenly the wind blow super hard and my doll fall backwards! I ran to look at her and think "oh she is ok..." but no!!!!! she lost the back of her head! I thought I would die there... the piece fall into a metal tube full with electric stuff and cables... one of my friends ran to the restaurant and ask if they could open there during my other friend stay by my side trying to calm me down, I was in shock... At last, my friend who ran to the restaurant came with a big smile on her face and show me the missing head part, she told us that fourtunately the small door was unloock and it was there stuck with the magnets
My poor doll was on my desk free standing when my cat jumped up and she face planted the floor.... needless to say her face up is ruined with chipped lips and scuffed eyebrows. I don't have the trust in myself yet to redo it so she remains with a sad face.
This probably makes me, like, a bad person or something, but this thread is making me want a dare-devil bjd. Y'know, like Evil Knievel? They could have like a crash helmet and a leather body suit for protection, but their job would basically be to fall off of higher and higher things, wrestle with puppies, maybe get set on fire occasionally... all carefully documented of course. Broken and damaged resin would be sources of pride instead of horror. Catharsis for the bjd community.
