Homes for Tinies discussion part 3

Apr 19, 2013

    1. I'm building a dollhouse for my tiny. I hope to get a realpuki soon to add to the dollhouse too.

The idea behind it is the bottom is a tree trunk and the top is a witch hat the little ones found and added it on to make the house bigger. I'm not sure how I came up with that... anyway here's the start

I need to decide if I'm going to wire it for lighting or just hope it'll get enough light. I'm using a hat box for the "trunk" and mesh wire for the "hat" both will be covered in fast mache. The trunk floor will have tiles that I'm going to grout. I'm not sure about the second or third floors. Bottom will be the kitchen/nook area, second floor bedroom and their I'm not sure...bathroom? Sewing room? I was thinking of adding a swing off the brim of the hat before covering it in fast mache and maybe I'll have a little garden or something like that on the brim as well. So far...it looks kind of stupid lol

    2. I love your dollhouse Humbug. Where did you get that fake grass?

I just realized I've never shared my 1/6 scale room box for my littlefees. So here it is!

    3. i think it is going to be really unique @lookame. as far as lighting it, i think it depends on what you are going to do with it. if you are using it just as storage/shelving type house then ambient light its probably ok. if you plan to do a lot of phot shoots in the house than extra lighting would make it a lot easier so i would wire for lights. or get stick on led spot lights later.

i've seen bits and pieces but not all put together @littlegreycoconut love all the little touches , especially the pet budgie!

    4. I actually bought it off a furniture store, it was supposed to be display only but the owner kindly let me have a couple. I did find the exact same mats for sake at an outdoor and garden decor store some time later. So you might find them at places that sell fake grass. I believe you can also find similar mats on eBay.

Your diorama is absolutely lovely BTW. :)

    5. Thanks auntbear! It's not completely finished yet, but it's so much fun to play around with. :)

Thanks, that's good to know. And thanks for liking my diorama. :)

    6. I'm so glad you shared your room box--it is terrific! I especially love the parakeet and turtle--they just make it! So cute! :love

Here's a progress shot of the lower level.

    8. What a fab little house!

    9. Hey guys! I am looking to make my very own doll house for my 2 tinies (a pukifee and a lati yellow) and I was wondering if there was a turorial on how to do it/where to start what tools I might need? Any link would be really appreciated! Thanks :)

    10. that's a fun floor @lookame, and i really like your stairs. did you just bend cardboard and plaster it?

@Sewb it really depends on what kind of house you are trying to build. pukifees/latis can fit reasonably well in standard dollhouses. they are a little on the big size so it looks like a child's playhouse but a lot of people like that look and it's easier than finding 1/8th scale which is usually a better fit, or treating them as toddlers and trying to make room for a 1/4 or 1/3rd scale house! if you go for dollhouse scale you can find tutorials all over the internet. pinterest is a great place to start if you have a week or two, since you will find zillions of tutorials/links ;) or you can get hints by reading through these threads starting with version one. you'll find links to the older threads on page one of this thread.

    11. Thanks @auntbear the floor is broken up stones and glass I found at joann. I need to grout and seal it in a week or two. The stairs are made from the mesh metal the hat base is made out of then I crimped then plastered to the side. I'm thinking I may add a support beam at the very top step but I'm not sure yet.

    12. thanks for the explanation @lookame. that sounds like a lot sturdier way of making stairs than i was imagining, and more doable for me than the standard wood steps since i'm not great with power tools :) i really like the flow of the steps without any beam going down, and it might limit your floor space a lot. if you can anchor it to the top of the floor hopefully you won't need the support beam

    13. Perhaps you could use a small brass right angle brace under the stair to add some support for the top step.

    14. nancy_schroeder_ca, that is a very good idea. With my wee ones I like to believe they would use materials and bits found in their surroundings. That could well include findings discarded by some Big Ones.

lookame, I, too, like the floor. What elfling doesn't appreciate colorful baubles? ;)

Sewb, I have a book titled: Fairy Island: An Enchanted Tour of the Homes of the Little Folk. It is wonderful for inspiration.

    15. lossefaire -I have that book! I just re read it a couple days ago.

      Beautiful floor lookame!

I have a house I've been working on for a couple years. Maybe I should share it here? I have been making dollhouses and miniatures for decades, but got into bjds. Now I can combine both!

    16. kurogane, it is an adorable little book, isn't it? Please share some photos of your house, if you will.

    17. Thanks hun! I think they're Schleich figures. :)

I love that floor lookame! :)

    18. Hi there, I need some help for building a new home for my pukifee ^^

Do you think a house with a 1:24 scale is ok for my pukifee doll? Or should it be bigger?

For my excuse: I'm from germany and my math mode of thought is not the best! I'm totaly swamped with that right now!!!

I would be glad if anyone could help me!!!

    19. Hi 1:24 would be way to small, you may get away with a 1:12 scale kit though, and 1:12 is a pretty standard dollhouse scale, so should be pretty easy to find.

    20. Thank U for answering so fast!!! ^^

I'm not sure... does my pukifee fits in this?
So sorry 'bout the double post :o:doh:atremblin

    21. Lysandra, you should try to look for furniture in 1:10, there are some on etsy who make furniture that size. I found them by searching for Pukifee Furniture. You can drive to you nearest IKEA, they've got doll house furniture (IKEA Huset) that is almost perfect in scale, especially the bed from the second set. And with the scale: the bigger the second number is, the smaller is the item compared to our normal scale (which is 1:1).

    22. No a pukifee won't fit in those kits, they are usually too small. You can always check the measurements yourself, most listings have the dimensions of the finished house, so you can check for yourself, say if the finished house is 40cm tall and has two stories, and a pukifee is about 15cm? tall then you can pretty much tell how big your pukifee is going to be in each room.

    23. Thankyou again. I realy appreciate that you are so helpfull!

@Aurinel: IKEA is a verry good idea for building a own Pukifee home but I just wanted to have complete finish room. By the way I don't realy like IKEA :nowords:

@raewhitewolf: To bad... that could have been so much fun to build it. Maybe I order one of these anyway. ^^

40cm are realy big... I couldn't find any smaller homes... are there any etsy seller or ebay, where I can check? A highness from 25cm to 30cm would be better for me and my dolls. ^^

If anybody knws something I would be glad and thankfull.

    24. That is realy helpfull, thank you so much! :love:D

    25. Me too.... and only partly because Lamp Voice Music is intriguing :)

    26. The Caravan Kit is more for lati white / puki puki size
      It's too small for pukifee
He a picture of my lati white (no sp)

I have also a orchid house (no built yet) and in my opinion it's better for the puki puki size too

The one who is very good for pukifee size is the one of lori doll

    27. I've made some progress on my tiny's house. It's slow going and I'm not sure how sturdy it is (especially the second floor) but here it is anyway
      [IMG]
Idk how I feel about all the floors being mosaic and how the trunk is so far. Some of the roots are cracking and the clay is peeling off in some areas. It was a clearance pack of LA doll clay and it was kind of dry...

Woops...that was a pic I shared in some of my other threads. I guess the one I was trying to share didn't copy..

    28. This picture is too cute and also very helpfull. I was searching for a pic like that. Thank you.

I ordered a kit that could fit on a pukifee. We'll see until I finished it. I'll post a picture of it then. ^^

If this wouldn't fit... I wait for my first puki puki to come home. xD

    29. Here's a head on shot to see the second floor tiling

    30. that sunflower design is cool

    31. Both of these houses are wonderful....

I really need to get to work on my wine crate room....

    32. Yeah I have a few puki puki's that need accommodation :)

    33. lookame: peeling and cracking just adds character. I'm sure you'll find a way to blend it into the design.

    34. Wow everyones dollhouse look great.. I have a picture that I took before I threw mine in the trash. I didn't have a doll to fit it and it was taking up space and well I needed things to be clutter free for a bit... Yes I am a tad bit crazy.. [IMG]treehouse by me, on Flickr
