Esthetics Help cleaning marks on white resin!

Oct 22, 2023

    1. Hi everyone, I left the doll community about 8 years ago but recently got back in a few months ago and purchased my dream doll, Volks Alice from 2011. The only problem is that she arrived kind of dirty, There was dust in her face covering and her forehead has marks across it. It was hard to picture on camera but tried my best, there's also a mark along the bridge of the nose but to me that seems like an age mark. Any knowledge you guys can give me about cleaning resin will be greatly appreciated! I don't want to try anything without asking for help since my knowledge of resin is gone and I don't want to mess up the face-up. [IMG] [IMG]

    2. It looks like the sealant itself is dirty, and has rubbed off in places (those are the white areas). Especially on the tip of the nose sealant has chipped/rubbed off. The white is the clean, bare resin underneath the faceup.

      So what you can do is just gently (!) use a bit of damp magic eraser to remove any obvious surface dirt. A damp tissue if you're worried about the eraser being too abrasive. Then, to at least dull down the shine, you could apply a light spritz of sealant.
      However, the obvious differences in color won't go away from that. The faceup itself is just worn down/has obvious signs of use and age.

    3. Great! Thank you so much for your help! :)

    4. For the sealant spritz, my friend has used a paper towel or something similar with a hole to reveal just the area you want to respray so the lashes & rest of the faceup aren't effected. It is a lovely faceup. Good luck!

    5. That’s a really good idea! Thank you!

    6. Also, from past experience, test your fixative spray first somewhere other than the faceup... You may have thought of this but I've made the mistake before of having my spray fizzle a bit rather than spraying smoothly. Best for that to happen on a piece of cardboard or the headcap. ;}
      Volks USA carries the zoukimura (?sp?) fixative. Some of us are finding that MSC has had a tendency to yellow as it ages. There are some good discussions on DoA about fixatives.
