Hello ~ Newbie from US Cali ^-^

Jun 25, 2021

    1. Hello everyone ~ I'm super excited to be joining the BJD community and the plethora of wonders here in Den of Angels.

I fell in love with the dolls so long ago and only finally got to buy a few for myself. Now I want so many, haha. I've been watching a lot of Youtube videos on how to restring, face-up and do my own body blushing. I hope to get back into the swing of sewing too and hopefully make some clothes : )

I just started up an Instragram @ reds.dreamdolls and I'd love to follow any fellow collectors on there!

My first doll was the Resinsoul Mei and my latest is Pipos Doll Deborah ~

But enough about me! How are you? Who was your first BJD to get you hooked?

      Stay safe and well all!

    2. Hello and welcome! Pipos Debora is so elegant and RS Mei has such a cute face. Lovely dolls both, and Internet high fives from a fellow Mei fan :D

My first new doll was my Doll Leaves Betty, she's the one in my current icon photo. Learning how to make a wig and researching face ups was definitely one of the things that showed me how fun and versatile BJDs can be. It didn't take long for me to be hooked : ) Good luck with your future sewing projects and may your threads never tangle!

    3. Hello, and welcome! I'm from California too! I don't have my first doll anymore, but my latest is a Granado Uriel. ^_^ He's one of my largest dolls. My smallest is a pukipuki and is about the same size as his foot, lol.

    4. Hi and welcome to DoA!
I saw your Mei in the doll profiles. She’s gorgeous! I like her eyes and wig together.
What got me interested in BJDs was minifee Chloe, but my first purchase was a Doll Chateau Grace (human). Big difference there, but it worked out and I did get a Minifee later. My latest is a Resinsoul Dawn.

    5. Welcome to the hobby! Your dolls are wonderful! I’ve also been eyeing Pipos sculpts for some time now:)
I started the hobby in 2017, but really didn’t bond with any dolls until recently. I’m really happy with my dolls now :)
I hope you have a lot of fun in the hobby! It’s such a great community once you find your ppl ❤️

    6. Welcome to DoA! Not, absolutely NOT a doll person...until I got hooked. Some online friends brought their resin kids to a Science Fiction con I was attending specifically to "infect me." I had the chance to handle a bunch of different sizes and companies, and the minute I laid hands on the FL littlefee Shiwoo, I was in love. His tiny pukipuki pukisha friend was part of the plot. The next day, one of those friends gave me the amazing gift of my beloved Wiishu (my avatar). He and his little brother, Pookii, have kept me busy for several year now providing clothing, props and taking photos.

The folks here at DoA are super friendly and helpful. Don't be shy about asking questions...and check out the workshop and discussion pages...you'll probably find entire threads dedicated to your answers!

      HI, from Wiishu:

    8. Hello and welcome! I loved BJD's for a long time after seeing pictures on Flickr. My very first was a Soom Monzo who I fell in love with immediately. He's moved on but he started me on the journey that's lead me and then my BF to own several dolls.

    12. Welcome as well! Hope to see photos if you share them here, and my first BJD was a Volks Megu from way, way back when these fabulous creations were just beginning to be seen in the US. Once hooked, it became a slippery slope and down the rabbit hole I went. :) Have fun and enjoy your play time!

My first BJD was IMDA 3.0 Simonne. I am totally hooked. I want so many, IDK what to get next!

    14. Hello and welcome to Den of Angels! That's lovely that you have a few already and that you are teaching yourself to be more accustomed to the hobby. That's one of the great things about this hobby. The possibilities are endless and it's great!

Just be sure to use proper PPEs when doing mods and face-ups to avoid asbestos level resin poisoning or fine particulates from the face-up materials. And definitely make sure it is done in a well ventilated area that isn't in a living space where pets or small children are exposed to. (I learned this from second hand exposure from a friend that did face-ups and modding whenever I visited her.:ablah:)

My first doll was when Volks USA had a showroom in Torrance and she is a Volks SD10 Kun/F-22 sculpt. But the first dolls that got me hooked initially were Nobility Doll LIE and Volks Yukinojo as well as all the dolls shown in Haute Doll magazine in the olden days when BJDs first started emerging in the US.:dance

    16. Welcome! I am from California as well! Looking forward to seeing your pictures! I personally started with a Smart Doll, and have since expanded to others! I am a big Volks fan (it helps when I can order anything in the morning and pick it up from volks later that day :abambi::abambi::abambi:)

    17. I too am a Volks fan from way back, and is how I got started in the BJD world, with Megu. Still have her, and added many others for years afterwards. I branched off and added other company BJD's over the years so my family has grown considerably since.

It is great that you can order and pick up your BJD that same day...
