Hello from Germany

May 31, 2024

    1. Hi everyone!
I'm Franky. My doll collecting journey has been a short one, but I hope it lasts for a lifetime! I saw my first BJD in the early 2000s when I was still a kid. I fell in love, but then learned how expensive these dolls are, and thought I'd never own one.

Fast forward to 2023. By chance, I saw pictures of Shoushou's Niko online. I fell in love all over again, with her and BJDs. But this time, I actually had money to spend. So I tried to find her. It wasn't easy, but just a few months later, Niko arrived at my doorstep! A collector in my country sold her to me, after I basically offered my soul and my firstborn. ^^ She is so adorable, I can't stop looking at her. Whenever I see her, she makes me smile.

I also have Isladolls Mango (renewal version), a very old Minifee Chloe, some blindbox BJDs, a Minifee A-line body that will get an old event head soon (super excited!) and an Asleep Eidolon head that's not yet painted and still needs a body.

I work in tech and spend a lot of time in front of a screen, so sewing, creating resin eyes and accessories, and making wigs for my girls has become my favorite way to spend time. It's just so different to what I do for a living.

The people around me are less than thrilled, because they believe collecting dolls is for children and there must be something wrong with me. But I don't mind. I love my girls and they bring me joy. So I'm hoping to connect with lots of like-minded people on here! I'm happy to have found this community.

    4. Welcome to the forum and the hobby! :sumomo: Fellow German BJD enthusiast here. Where are you from? Wishing you a wonderful and inspiring time here. I'm very impressed how you kept your interest in BJDs for so many years until you were actually able to own them. Looking forward to seeing your dolls here.

    6. Welcome from another German! And don't listen to the people in your life, a hobby that brings you joy and doesn't harm anyone (but your wallet) is good to have

    7. Welcome to the community from another German collector :3nodding: It’s nice to hear your story! And don’t worry too much about others opinions. The dolls might seem a bit weird to people, but as long as you’re happy and not hurting anyone, it’s all that matters!

    8. Thank you all very much!

I live in a small town near the Belgian border. It's very pretty and idyllic, but genereally speaking people are somewhat closed-minded here. They don't appreciate what they don't understand.

My MNF event head arrived today from a friend who did her faceup, yay! I've only ever seen such wonderful faceups online, but my friend did a fabulous job. Can't quite believe yet that she's with me now. Her body still needs some sanding (I don't like the seamlines), but then she'll be ready!
