Hello all!

Nov 15, 2024

    1. Hi everyone,

My name is Cayne and I don't have my own BJD yet but I'm looking to get one very soon!

I have seen a head I like on advillage recently but as I'm new to the community, I hope you won't mind me asking some questions about compatible bodies, wigs, eye chips, clothes and where to get them :)

My partner collects Blythe dolls so I know a little.

      Lovely to meet you all!

    2. Hello and welcome to DOA! There are many reference threads to get you started :)

    3. I am totally new and there is SO MUCH TO LEARN! :XD:

    4. Hi and welcome!
DoA is an absolute gold mine for information on BJD, both general and specific. People here are usually happy to help, so don't hesitate to ask if you can't find what you need in sticky threads or in the wiki.
Take your time and make yourself at home.

If you are comfortable using google services you may also want to check out The Big BJD FAQ written by user Ara. There is a lot of basic information there that will probably make further search easier.

      Have fun! :)

    5. omg, thank you so much @Lillith !
That FAQ is epic! I'll have plenty to read while I wait for my Doll Village head to arrive :)
Even just reading the reference pages yesterday really helped. I can't believe only 1 in 7 collectors are guys.. well actually I can but damn :XD:

      Thanks for the warm welcome!

    6. Hehe, I'd say this hobby is about equal parts patience, research and pure joy.

It's hard to know if the gender thing is correct or not. I mean, it's probably close, but it only shows what people are comfortable sharing. DoA have members from all over the world and in some areas it is not as normalized for men to be interested in dolls as in others, so I wouldn't be surprised if that skew the numbers a bit.
But on the other hand, one in seven is a lot higher than in some other dolls related hobbies, so who knows?

At least it's enough that it's rare for a guy to be the only guy at a convention or a larger doll meet, for what it's worth. And when people have a hobby in common to focus on, they tend to forget about gender pretty quickly, in my experience.

    7. Yeah that totall make sense. I probably wouldn't have even been here if it wasn't for instagrams algorithms.
Make partner has a Blythe account, and so I liked her pictures.
I like anime related content. Algorithm showed me anime dolls and the more of those photos I liked, the more bjds started appearing in my feed.
Then some of them were just amazing. I've always liked Buffy/vampire stuff too so when I saw vampire bjds, that was it. I had to get one :XD:

    8. I'm new too, a similar thing happened to me. I was looking up anime figurines and before I knew it the algorithm started showing me bjd. Now I'm here!

    9. The algorithms know us too well @Sengi !:XD: My figures are going to have a big sister soon!
Once she's here and I know her actual size, it'll be time to start making a miniature bedroom.
