Granado's Vindolls part 1

Jan 12, 2017

    1. I was worried about head size ratio @Therealwalter . Not height. I was also asking for a friend who has several Dollstown dolls, and the ladies want a mature looking fellow, she needs one that won't break the bank.

    2. I was just teasing you because I am a short guy. Lol. No worries.

      • x 3
    3. Height wouldn't be an issue if she wants him for her shorter girls, but she was looking at Iplehouse, and I don't think that would be a good combo.

    4. How did I miss so many posts?? My boy was delivered today! he is at home waiting for me! EEEEEEEEEEEE! So exciting!

I'm still waiting for my frame, but what can you do...

    11. Thank you!!!

How long can it take for a frame?? That probably should have gone out fast... well, in my mind, anyway. :)

More pics in my Granado album and more pics to come.
      Granado

My camera died AS SOON AS I TURNED IT ON! of course it did! So I had to use my phone and not sure how to transfer pics with it. I expected the windows explorer to open and.... my comp doesn't even see the device. I will figure it out, cuz lots of good freshly-opened body shots! And SID comparisons.

For those wondering, he is 67cm tall without shoes. I can fit Idealian tops on him but the pants are harder to find. The ridiculous gold ones he's got on now are SSDF for long legs I think. They are far too long but I tore the pleather of them at the crotch trying to get the legs over his massive thunder thighs. I highly suggest putting this guy in a kilt. His boy bits which are of impressive size are not, sadly, soft enough to squish out of the way when dressing. His feet are immense. You now what they say about men with big feet...? RIGHT! They wear big shoes! BIG BIG shoes! *sobs* Have some mercy sculptors! I know big feet are manly and all but those of us who have to buy for them would love just a bit of compassion!

And is it just me or do his wrists not rotate? I'm scared to push too much but mine do not seem to rotate.

I am also #44... I received NO eye putty, so I guess once they ran out of pink and white they just plum ran out. He was wrapped well, his joints are tight, no loose limbs. Except that Glenn (the guy in the pics flipping Udell off) despises him (and so half the resin population will not like him for Glenn's sake), he is welcome here! Very pleased, thanks Granado! Now... please... an Embody with smaller feet at the true 70cm height..? Hmm? yes? <3

Good job, Crocus and Granado team!!!!!!

    13. Your guy looks so cool. I really like the outfit he is wearing (specially how the pants show his manhood) and thank you so much for all those pictures, and the SID comparisons you are AWESOME :)

    14. @chalyss awesome! Oh, you didn't get any of the gooey eye putty? Odd feeling stuff. It didn't work, but hey, right? Yes, big feet! And you are correct about dressing with pants, unless they are stretchy. I guess I'll have to share the picture of the anti stain suit. I hides the offending appendage, at least I thought so. :sweat

I have some Iplehouse EID boots, they fit in the feet, big in the calves (could be stuffed with something). Not going to keep them, nothing wrong with them, just changed my mind. Plus as he's in a Kimono, they look funny, lol.:aeyepop:

    15. The wrists are able to rotate but the movement comes from where the arm joint turns in the elbow not by rotation at the wrist joint itself.
I have been using Vinny as my letter holder when I do the bills and his clever hands seem to hold stuff very well.

    16. My boy arrived yesterday. Well-packaged, poses well, overall I'm quite happy! I will say that the NS is paler than expected. It compares with my Angell Studio boy in butter skin. The second pic is in the nude.

    18. Congratulations!!!!

It might be because the position of the camera when you took the second photo, but you guy looks more hung than the others :)

      • x 3
    19. @chalyss why don't the others like him? He looks gorgeous, especially in that costume.

@mosaicwolf another gorgeous guy! I really like the wig you put on him. Suits him well. :)

    20. Thanks Neep!!

It wouldn't surprise me. I have seen a wide variety of doll 'junk,' including a number that move and interchange, but even I said 'whoa' when I unwrapped the bubble wrap. lol

    21. I have my guy hanging out with me next to my chair. I really like to hold his hand! Gosh that sounds awkward, but I keep doing it! :chibi

    22. @Alewife, let me know when you reach the end of Book 1, then I'll answer that. I don't wanna ruin the ending for you. But it's not for his looks or clothes that the others don't like him, it's loyalty issues.

@Therealwalter thanks for that answer! I was starting to think that was the case, I just wanted to be sure as I use brute strength to fix problems by default. Hmm. I really wonder why they didn't make them able to rotate there. Even Obitsu hands can be removed and exchanged for different poses and are twistable.

@NeeP Thank you! And yes, he IS very much a man! *L*

@MrFjmg2003 Thank you!! Glad the comp pics helped! He is close to a SiD but his feet are bigger, he's a bit taller, and his thighs are not nearly so streamlined but detailed and pronounced. His ankle balls and feet helped make it hard to get pants on him.

@mosaicwolf, congrats!!!! he is fun, isn't he?

@kurogane, yeah no putty! Or maybe I just can't find it? Either way, it's all good. I have some eyes in him handmade by @fishcake and they fit in his sockets so well I don't /need/ putty, but when I go to squish his head cap back in, it deforms the face enough to dislodge the eyes, so I do end up needing putty. I hate how the head caps in vinyl dolls go back in. That needs to be changed; it's always been a pain.

      • x 1
    23. @chalyss I wondered if that was the case. ;)

Some DD owners cut a little piece out of the edge of the headcap so it goes on easier. I had a terrible time getting the headcap on without pushing the eyes out of whack. I ended up using a hair dryer.

      • x 1
    24. @Alewife, thanks for the tip! I may try that, or maybe try cutting slots for magnets, but that won't sit flush so may need more modding.

      • x 1
    25. @chalyss congratulations!!! I just saw that your guy arrived! He looks great! (I didn't get putty either, I just assumed the pockets would hold eyes...guess not! ;)

    26. Some more pics, clothed this time~

The jeans are SID-sized from Iplehouse. I think they fit pretty well, roomy enough for his crotch, which is nice. Length-wise I like them, although they do ride up a little when he's sitting.

Underneath he's wearing protective tights from Angell Studio (by way of Mint on Card). Very pleased with those, they're nice and stretchy. I've got a top too, but he's not currently wearing it.

The shoes are from Blue Blood, EID size. I think they're a little big, but one issue I think we're going to have with Vindoll feet is the width.

The shirt is seamstress-made in EID size. It definitely is large on him, but it hangs nicely. I got confirmation back from Angel Toast that she can work him in, so his head will probably be heading her way either tomorrow or Monday~

    27. Thank you so much for the pictures. Now I feel more confident that the SID size jeans I order will fit my guy :)

I really love his wig did you made it?

      • x 1
    28. No problem! I figure we're basically blazing the trail of figuring out what fits these guys.

Thanks! I commissioned it from a shop called Sugary CuppyCake Boutique on FB. It's a hardcap wig, made to his measurements. I highly recommend her. My boy is going to be Shiro from Voltron: Legendary Defender, thus the look.

      • x 1
    29. Lol! Actually, his eyes, which are made by you @fishcake, sit in his wells beautifully! It's just the squishiness of his face that knocks them out a bit. :(

Bolstered in confidence by @mosaicwolf's well-fitting jeans (they DO look good!), I tried on some Iplehouse brand SID pants for my guy and WOW, what a tight fit. I wasn't sure it'd work, but I managed to get them up and they look better in the crotch than the risque gold pants (which was on him so tight he ended up actually hanging a bit to the right... I hope that corrects itself) but then make his legs look like chicken legs, IMO. *LOL* This guy can't win. I will consider the kilt idea some more.
      [IMG]chicken legs

I am, however, more than a little disappointed in the lack of twisting wrist. The forearms twist but the wrists don't. They are frozen in that position except for front and back. I feel this is a huge oversight in engineering- if Barbie and Monster high can provide this in $25 dolls, then a $300 doll should have it. Obitsus do. I dunno... while I won't sell him for this flaw, it IS a flaw and my only real complaint aside from his very limited head movement. Overall happy, but room for improvement (and I don't usually point out problems so quickly after a release, just having a hard time understanding WHY the wrists don't rotate.)

      • x 4
    30. @chalyss i can get my guy's wrists to rotate. They were very stiff, almost locked in place. You can use a hair dryer to warm up the area to get it loose. It's the peg that goes from the wrist joint into the arm that moves. I can get my guy to move his wrist around, up down, just like my wrist. Hope this helps.

      • x 3
    31. YES! it does!! Thanks @kurogane!! I will work them then, they are just SO locked (as you said) that I was afraid to put too much pressure on them.

    32. I am pretty happy with my Udell! I've never owned a BJD before, so I'm still learning how to pose him (a task made more difficult at times by the plastic skeleton), this is the first time I've ever inserted or angled doll eyes, and I'm a crap photographer. But I still love the outcome lol

I have some clothes and wigs on the way, but until they arrive he's stuck with the default wig and undies. At least the brownish wig and greenish eyes I received from Granado are pretty neutral for the time being. :)

Cons: his right leg keeps falling out at the hip -- CONSTANTLY. :( It is driving me nuts. Also, his box was so warped that the only explanation I can think of was that it melted sitting on my porch after delivery. (I'm in Texas, it's pretty damn hot right now.)

I took some photos to show him off. :)

    33. @chalyss aww, so happy I could help! Your guy is such a gorgeous hunk, love the way you have him dressed. One of the wrists is still pretty tight on mine, but I got the first one moving great now. Plus I was also able to bend the feet down so much he could stand on his toes! I've never had a doll do that!

I finally put my guy with the rest of my crew. Oh, gee, he is huge compared to them. Glad I went big for him. :drool

    34. Oh, and my certificate number is 003 :)

    35. Congrats on your first bjd. He is so gorgeous. I like the color of wig he got and the way you style the wig it makes him look very mischievous. I have own a lot of vynil dolls and I have never had that problem. But some people here were having the same problem and they were able to fix it. May be they can help you or if you go back to older post you will find the answer because I remember people mentioning what they didn't to fix that problem :)

All this new Udell are making me so anxious to get mine. What name did you give him?

      • x 2
    36. Does anyone have a pair of SID shoes they can try on their boy? I'm eyeing some boots on the Iple site. I see that their foot measures 9.2cm and the Vindoll is 10cm.

Randomly, I'm currently hosting an Iplehouse clothes and accessories group order if any of you are interested.

      • x 2
    37. Thank you for the kind words! I haven't named him yet lol

Though Finn is coming to mind for some reason... maybe bc it's similar to "Vin" and sounds mischievous! ;)

      • x 1
    38. @emac, Alewife suggested putting some masking tape around the leg post, the structure itself, to fill in gaps. try that. Your boy is a honey! I LIKE the name Finn!

@mosaicwolf, he has BIG feet! With a change of pants I was able to zip up the backs of the boots he has one now (not ones I actually WANT paired with that outfit, but all that fits right now) and I think he needs EID size, not SID. Miro has some very large boots on sale right now, though not a huge selection. Blueblooddoll should have something too.

@kurogane, YES! his feet are amazing pointers, I will give him that! He could be a dancer easily with his poseability! My guy is competing with some bog boys, so he's a bit on the short side but bulky enough to hold his own. :)

      • x 3
    39. @mosaicwolf i have some Iplehouse EID boots and they fit the feet perfectly, I don't know about SID, sorry.

@emac congratulations! Love your avatar pic! Finn is a great name!

    40. Hi guys! I'm new here but Udell will be my first bjd!!! I'm so excited! :D I hope they ship him out soon. I ordered him on the 10th of July.

    41. Seems like Vindoll was the gateway drug for a lot of us lol

Congrats! You're going to love him!

      • x 2
    42. Re: wrist twisting, one of my guys can easily rotate his wrists, and the other guy can't. There do seem to be minor variations in the size of various components, just enough to make a joint loose or tight. I suppose it would be impossible to make them all perfect. Fortunately, there are easy fixes!

      • x 3
    43. Gorgeous men! Lucky everyone who has already received or has these chaps on order!

May I please just ask you both something - are your boys without face ups? It might just be my eyes (!) but they look different from some of the other Udells I've seen, especially round the eyebrows.

      • x 1
    44. Yes, my boy is currently blank. In fact I'll be popping his head off today so I can box him up to get his faceup.

      • x 1
    45. Thanks - I'm not going mad, then! It'll be brillant to see him newly-born when he returns from his faceup! Bet you're excited.

      • x 1
    46. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before but... can we confirm that Udell can wear EID iplehouse clothes comfortably? :) Can you guys tell me about your experiences with his clothes? Thanks!

      • x 1
    47. @perrych7 Yes I am super excited! I was tempted to try and get his head out the door yesterday, but it didn't work out. But I can't wait to get him to AT and back!

They fit, but they're big on him. Pants are going to be a bit long and big in the waist, shirts are going to be loose. I have a pair of Iplehouse SID jeans on my boy, and they seem to work just fine, but another person found SID pants a tad short on their boy. So to answer your question, he seems to be somewhat inbetween SID and EID.

      • x 3
    48. Damn...they don't make an in between size tho lol, I guess I could roll the bottoms of his pants up lol

      • x 1
    49. @RachelWings I have an Iplehouse EID military uniform and it is a bit big. The button up shirt was too long in the arms, but fit ok. The jacket fit, but once again too long in the arms. The pants are out of a thick stretchy material and were just a little loose in the waist. My doll looked ok, but you could tell the outfit didn't fit like it should.

    50. That kinda sucks.. I bought EID clothes an its expensive... maybe I should buy SID clothes? I'm just worried because I was going by his measurements and his chest is bigger than SID clothes so I have trouble knowing what exactly to buy.I don't want him to look weird in a big ass outfit lol

    51. Great write-up, @K-2!

      • x 1
    52. I think it's an individual quirk among the dolls- my Udell has no loose limb issues, just those tight wrists.

Very cool review! Interesting that the shin 'bones' were different length. You did a great job fixing it! I think mine has that too, which makes one hip push up over the other. Not sure I'll fix it- the guy could just have one leg longer than the other. Or maybe mine is a different problem.

    53. I'm sure your man will be fine! Try to stay optimistic & really look forward to "meeting" him, judging by most reviews I think you'll be thrilled!

      • x 1
    54. lol is it bad that I changed my mind and I don't really want him anymore =/

      • x 1
    55. Not bad, but I'd definitely reserve judgment until you get him home and play with him.

That said, I do think people who are more comfortable 'tinkering' with their dolls will find the quirks easier to deal with. Keeping in mind that we are all early adopters and there are always bugs in a first release of anything.
