Granado Tiny Doll Discussion II

Feb 27, 2022

    1. Oh my gosh I’m so excited, and happy to see that people are receiving their tinies. I got my shipping notification and now I’m just waiting for Lucifer to arrive. The only downside to these guys is the lack of clothes/wigs etc. Mature tiny problems lol. :D

    2. Thank you so much. I figured I would just buy a cheap pair until he arrives and I decide exactly what colour eyes I need :) Good to know that 6mm are ok.

    3. My Lucifer Evolve is in the country! Yippee! Can't wait to check out this new body.

I used 3mm seed beads and did some careful sizing to make sure they were close to the same. Man this was difficult and getting them into his head and faced the same way was even harder. Taking a clear photo of his tiny blank head was impossible so 384 helped me out. Now I have to remove his eyes and do his faceup :...(:frownyblush: I think I may try Robert's microscope for this operation.

    5. The body looks great but ( stupid question alert) why does it have a sticky out bit on the neck? I thought they were hooks to attach the head ? ( I’ve ordered the same body and a Lucent head so I’m asking so I don’t panic when he arrives lol )

    6. He comes with both the post for a Obistu type head and a regular s-hook.

      • x 1
    7. Ohhh thank you. I didn’t even know there were different connections for different heads. Is Obistu connected in some way to Granado?

    8. Obitsu is a Japanese toy company. They are in no way related to Granado. Obitsu makes a popular customizable 12" fashion doll line, and also bodies and heads for popular BJD-like larger vinyl dolls, some of which have been grandfathered into DoA. (:

      • x 1
    9. Yay for unannounced arrivals! It's always fun when that happens...

And yes, Enzyme is right! No official connection, but they're popular enough that Granado made the bodies compatible with the Obitsu heads. And accordingly probably also a lot of heads that were made for Obitsu bodies, of which there are tons and tons--Parabox basically just makes their own heads for Obitsu bodies! (They have a few original bodies themselves now, but the bulk of their offerings are meant to go Obitsu bodies.)

    10. Oh my gooosh I literally cannot wait! Mine landed in the US a couple of days ago and tracking hasn’t updated since. Maybe it will show up unannounced. That. Body. :D

    11. Thank you

    12. Thank you that’s very interesting. I haven’t looked at any Obitsu dolls. I’ll take a look out of curiosity I think.

    13. I got both the open and sealed eyes heads with the Lucent ascent package. The sesled eyes head does not have a headcap so he also needs the Obitsu style connector.

    14. I learn something new every time I’m here ☺️

    15. for the tiny guy, can he wear obitsu clothing? I am not familiar with obitsu doll but if they are same size as tiny will the obitsu clothes fit. TIA

    16. The 15cm body can't wear any Obitsu clothes! Obitsu doesn't make a body in that scale, theirs are all 1/6+. (They do have like, 11cm dolls and so on but it's more childish rather than scaled down versions of the bigger dolls.)

    17. Thank you Idoru, If I decided to buy the tiny Granado doll where should I look for clothing?

    18. That I can't tell you! I could tell you for the bigger guys, but I didn't get one of the 15cm boys... I think there's 1/12 action figure clothes, I might start there? Other than that, your guess is probably as good as mine!

    19. I don't have one of the 15cm Granado dolls, but I personally would start by looking for clothing that fits the 1/12 Azone Picco Neemo doll. (Not Pure Neemo, but Picco Neemo.) I know they make male Picco Neemos and clothing for them. There are also the Phicen dolls at that size, but I don't know anything about them!

    20. Thank you for the quick reply, also I guess wig will be another thing that is hard to find.

    21. It's going to be interesting to see how the ability to scale down a body digitally and get a 3D print to create a cast is going to change the market. Very exciting times.

    22. I got to open my Lucent on the Evolve body yesterday! I was on a trip last week and he arrived while I was away. The body has great posability, but the head is a bit small proportionally. The Lucifer head is a bit bigger.

      • x 2
    23. Got mine as well and I LOVE THIS BODY! It "pairs" beautifully with the Ascent for my two main "boys". They are properly bodied at last! The other little guys are "homed" with characters as well, but Stephen and Wesley have been elusive. Soooo happy. (Snoopy dance)

    24. Congrats you two! And it's nice to hear that it sounds like shipping has been picking up! Hope it stays that way... Selfishly, because I want my Bonnie asap. ;)

    25. My Bonnie is here! With no shipping notice...! Just one pic for this thread, but I did post more in her box opening.

    27. Did anyone see this new teaser for the 15 Adagio Male Body? I'm so intrigued by the wings!

    28. I did see that! I'm super curious about them as well. I just wish they would release another open eye sculpt in that size.

    29. The wings are so pretty, I'm really tempted by a tiny fairy man now! I was able to resist the last one, but... Wings?! How can I say no to wings...

Congrats @Blubell! I just got a shipping notice too... For the doll I got last week, ahaha. I hope your Lucent arrives quickly and safely!

    30. Tracking is estimating 14th September so that’s exciting!!

      • x 1
    31. The new 15Adiago is up on Granado's site! The fairy wings don't seem to be available for sale though.

    32. Yeah, I'm disappointed that the wings aren't available... However, it seems like they might sell the body with wings if you contact them privately? That's what they said in their reply to my question about the body on the news thread.

    33. He’s here!!!! He’s gorgeous!!! Please someone tell me how to position the eyes better though. And I need a different wig as this one is too big but it’ll do for now. He poses so well. I’m honestly so happy with him (he’s my first). The face up is beautiful.

    34. I'm also curious about the wings, a tiny fairy man would be fun! :XD:

    35. Congratulations on your new boy, he is gorgeous indeed! I don't own a Granado tiny (or any Granado dolls, for that matter) but I do own a single mature tiny BJD, so I know it is hard to position their eyes in such a tiny space. I would recommend using hobby tweezers, if you can't fit your fingers well enough in the head cap to position them; I am a short-*ss person myself, so my tiny little-child-skeleton fingers fit in my (possibly larger Myou tiny's) head cap well enough, I just have super shaky hands, making it an ordeal to do much at tiny or delicate sized scales, let alone inside a tiny doll's head (one of the many reasons I prefer face plates systems, instead of full heads). I don't use the tweezers for the eye positioning myself (although I probably should get a set myself), but I know a lot of people in the 1:6 scale action figure hobby use them for tying shoelaces, buttoning up shirts (w/actual functional buttonholes!), and many other miniature customizations that would require tiny steady hands/fingers.

If you're asking about how to position them, so that he doesn't appear to be surprised, then just position the eye so that the top eyelid is covering a tiny bit of the iris to your liking. The more the more eyelid covering the iris, the sleepier/bedroom eyed he'll look, the less iris coverage the more he'll look angry/insane/drunk/surprised/high (Lol!). Hope that helps! (:

    36. Thank you so much. I will definitely get some tweezers. My fingers are just too big to fit there comfortably. I can’t get over how good he looks.

    37. Can anyone who has a 32 evolve body recommend any clothes please? I ordered some cheap ( very cheap) clothes just so he wouldn’t be naked and apart from the quality being terrible, the trousers don’t actually fit him. The top is ok if a little too short in the sleeves. What size should I be looking for ? I haven’t seen any for the 30-38 size. They all seem to be 26-30 and then 38-45. Would it work to get the 38-45 and then try and make them smaller ? I suspect the 26-30 is all going to be too short isn’t it ? Maybe I just need to make them instead.

Also wigs. Where can I find nice wigs in size 3-4? The one I got is a bit too large and keeps sliding around.

    38. I've been ordering 1/6 figure clothing - it's a little hit or miss, he's too tall for some stuff, and I got him a robe that's really too bulky for him - but most of it fits. I was recommended several websites, but also I've bought from ebay and etsy. shoes have been the hardest for me. I have a pair of boots, and some sandals that came with the robe outfit, but my favorite were the crocs lol I wish I bought more than one pair.

My eye suggestion is to put them on eye putty and use it to place them. I made a longish piece, wrapped the eyes in their putty, stuck them to the long piece, placed them, pulled the long part off and pressed the putty down so the eye stayed. It worked for me. I had to paint some glass beads for eyes lol. I had no idea where to even begin buying them. I can't answer the wig question, I glued hair on mine because that's how I roll.

EDIT: I never shared mine since I only ever take quick phone shots now, but here he is more or less done.

    39. His hair looks awesome!!! Good to
Know about the clothes. I did buy some cheap clothes but the trousers are too tight on his hips and he can’t sit down in them at all lol. I’m going to try making some clothes as soon as I have some time.
What’s the best eye putty to use ?

    40. @Blubell I personally use the back of a paintbrush to help me prod the eyes into position. I do what @VampireAngel13 does with the putty, too, and it can help. The other thing I do is wet the back of the tool (ie my back-of-the-paintbrush) slightly so it doesn't stick to the putty and then end up pulling the eye out. I use poster tack. Any kind of sticky tack... Granado sent the Faber-Castell kind when I got 2 pairs of eyes with my Bonnie, but really any brand will do.

For clothes, you do NOT want to get 38-45cm clothes and try to size them down. There's just no point, it would be an exercise in frustration. For pants, you can try Clear-Lan, I've had good luck with the Fashion Royalty Homme size for my Vigor and Adagio boys. I don't know how they compare to the Evolve body in girth, though, them boys are massive. This is part of why I renewed my interest in sewing...

I DIY my wigs, too, but Facets has some size 3 and 4 wigs, and Parabox does too. Not a lot of short, masculine styles to choose from, but if you want something longer they'd be worth checking.

    41. Thank you. I ended up using a knitting needle to help me position the eyes. I have some BluTak which I use to hang posters- will that be ok? I used a tiny amount but I think I could use a bit more to make it easier. I didn’t know about wetting the end to make it easier to remove without pulling the eyes out. I think I’ll be making him some trousers today as it’ll be easier than buying them. Trousers aren’t that hard to make if they’re elasticated right? I can try the harder styles later on. I’ve never made anything so small.
I did look on Facets yesterday but they didn’t have anything I liked - only one make wig in the size needed. I’ll try parabox. Maybe I should try making a wig but I have no idea how to even start.
Paradox did have one but the shipping was almost 3 times the price of the wig so that’s a no.

    42. BluTak works great! I usually rip off enough to make a little snake that I can coil around the eye (hopefully that makes sense).

For making wigs, it's actually pretty simple to get started! Your first wigs will probably be junky, but that's what practice is for. ;) There's a lot of advice on how to make hard-cap wigs in the Styling & Crafting subforum--I recommend this thread to start: Hard cap wigs for small heads.

They're pretty simple though. To give a quick, not very detailed overview of the process:
      1. Cover your doll's head with plastic wrap (to keep it from getting messed up by glue); secure it around the neck (usually) with a rubberband or something
      2. Stretch some kind of thin fabric over the head (thin pantyhose, tulle, etc--stretch fabric is easier to get wrinkle-free). Secure with elastics or string--I usually hook the elastic under the nose, over the ears, and at the base of the skull. (Makes more sense when you're doing it/looking at it.)
      3. Cover that with layers of glue--regular PVC/white glue works fine, there's a lot of advice and discussion on which glues to use out there. Let each layer dry. Do about 3-4, until the cap is smooth and hard.
      4. Draw on a hairline--make it bigger than you think the first time, since you can trim it back. Take fabric off of head, trim, put back on head.
      5. Glue hair/fiber/whatever to head in some kind of way that makes sense with the style you want, working outside edge to inside.
There's of course a lot of finesse and details in there, but pretty simple process in essence, no? Making my own wigs has saved my life. Never do I have to worry about it not fitting! Just about my own skill in making the styles I want, which can be worked on.

    43. That’s so helpful thank you so much I’m going to try that next week when I have some time. We have a house inspection this week so I’m cleaning everything lol

    44. My Lucifer 32Evolve just landed too :XD:
Ok I still need to set the eyes, find him a wig, some clothes,…

    45. Mine arrived also and I just love him! I'm in the same boat! I need to set his eyes and find a wig, clothes, etc.

    46. Oh wow I love that faceup on him!! Congrats on the arrival(s)!

    47. I caved! I just placed an order a few minutes ago.

    48. I almost caved in but bought a body for a head, I already had, with the money. Now I have to wait until later.

      • x 1
    49. I actually ordered him on Thanksgiving :D I got him in Syringa because I will be modding him into a Drow

      • x 1
    50. A drow!! I can't wait to see him, please do share pictures. I'm really debating between getting him, or committing myself to expanding into the 75cm size... it's so hard to choose.

      • x 1
    51. I ordered another tiny boy, this time a 15cm white Ninth on the Adagio body. He has sealed eyes - does that mean he is off topic now?
I have Luke, in windfresh and Rabbit in normal. Luke finally got most of his faceup and body blushing done. Waiting on the humidity to lower before I seal him and get him dressed. Rabbit is likewise waiting for sealing to get his faceup and body blush.

    52. Yes, sealed eyes are off topic but I think we should apeal to DOA and ask them to allow sealed/painted eyes if the head circumference is less than 3cm. Though I would like my 30cm sealed eyes dolls to be on topic also.

      • x 2
    53. I agree, it would be nice if dolls that otherwise met the criteria were on-topic! (Or if it was more of a "it has to have these at a minimum and then X number of the following qualities" system, to cover things like dolls that are BJDs but not made of cast polyurethane!) Unfortunately your tiny guy is off-topic, but I hope you'll maybe share him in Brigadoon? I think that'd be okay.

      • x 1
    54. I think he will be sneaking in with the other two who are on topic. I"ll have to make sure that it is a group photo though. So no solo shots except in Brigadoon.

    55. Just posted about this in the general mature tiny BJD thread, but! There's a new Granado girl, Jade, on a new body...! It's so pretty and tall, and I LOVE her elf ears. Someone in a Discord server I'm in has ordered her already, and I'm so sorely tempted. I love me a tall elf...

    56. Just ordered my first set of these tiny dolls!

I ordered through Legenddoll as the granado doll website didn't have the heads I wanted (I was surprised they offered them)! I'm so excited to get them! I am curious--how long is production time usually for a blank head and body?

I did pick up the small ball jointed hands as well. Was going back and forth on them (so expensive lol), but thought I might as well go all out. I've spoiled myself immensely on doll purchases the past month:XD:

      • x 1
    57. Nice, congratulations! Legenddoll does often have dolls that aren't being offered directly by the maker because they have a special deal to carry limited items by quantity and not time. (They do this with Asleep Eidolon, too!) In my experience, the production time is the "usual" of 3-4 months, mostly closer to 3 for me.
