Granado Doll Discussion Part 8

I haven't been on the Granado thread in a while...I really like the new lads body and Gabe is really nice too. He looks like he could be V-04's older brother. Do you think the new body fit into SD17 size clothing?

 

I love their old male bodies. If this is true that would be a horror! But Lads looks really good...

According to Lads size, SD17 outfit should fit great. But Lads is higher than SD17 0.5cm. Though I think that would not a problem

 

I really hope they don't phase out the 64/68 bodies! I prefer the 68 over the Nuevo and Lads both.
Gabe is cute, but too young for me. Whew. I don't need any new dolly angst!
Still hoping for a Titan Lads body...

I'm a huge fan of open interpretations. It makes things more interesting and varied. Whatever kind of bum you want! hehehe


Edit: I hadn't noticed the body options for Gabe. I hope they don't do away with the original 64/68 body. It's so well made!

It's great that Crocus is always creating new things, but I like the older ones too.

 

I hope they do not discontinue they old body. I do like the 64cm body very much. In fact my Sidonia have their very first female body, it's great on posing and I love it so much.

 

A quick question about resin matching. Would the company's new normal skin match volks?

 

Hey guys
I was a bit quiet the last months, but I thought this might interest you too.

Because I was finally able to order my Andrew's body I decided to clean his face and give him a face-up.
I always clean heads prior painting them with warm water and a soft piece of cloth, so nothing aggressive or scratchy, just to make sure they are 100% clean.
I did the same with the Mads head I prepared for painting, which is normal skin.
My Andrew is Bronze.

Well, after cleaning the head I realized that something was different.
The head and headback suddenly looked a bit lighter and tons of scratches appeared on the headback and also on his face.
It looks like someone has sanded him with too rough sandpaper, he has a big scratch on his chin too.
His skincolor is also not even anymore, he has lighter and darker patches, but the scratches are the worst.
I own a lot of dark skinned dolls, and I have never seen something like that before.
I also tested it at the inside of the headcap again, I also used a toothbrush later, but nothing happened.



Here's a picture of the headcap, you can see the scratches pretty well and also a bit the lighter/darker spots.
And here a picture of the head and headcap.

I wrote Granado already and asked them what happened.
Since the scratches don't appear when I clean the head inside I guess there is either something wrong on the outside (?) or maybe that he was scratched already when I got him and dust/dirt/mold residue filled them up till I cleaned him?

Anyone else had problems with their Bronze?
I was already a bit puzzled when I got him and the skintone looked more like a tiny bit darker tan (it's neither as saturated, nor as reddish than on Granado's picture, the one I have is more of a sandy dark toffee tone).

 

That's very strange! I'll be interested to hear what they say.

 

It looks like he was put on a buffer with too much polishing compound, or the buffing wheel needed changing. It might be possible to polish it back down--I got some polishing stuff for plastic but I have been too busy to try it myself to see how it works on dolls.

Since their tan skintones are supposed to be sandable I tried to buff out the worst scratches, like the really deep one next to his lip...and it gladly worked.
I used super, super, super fine sandpaper and very slowly sanded the worst spots, and at least in his face I managed to get out the worst scratches.
The ones on his headback are still slightly visible, but at least you can't feel them that bad anymore when stroking the headback
His headback still has a few lighter patches too, but it's overall the same color.

I'm still curious what Granado will say...I didn't want a refund anyway, but if there's something wrong with the resin mix or the way they sand/finish this skintone they should definitely know, especially since I still want another Bronze doll from them

Yeah, I also think they sanded him a bit too rough and with washing him the scratches suddenly became visible.

 

If the sanding is being done wrong by the casting factory, I'm sure they'll want to hear about it. Thanks for letting us know what they say, I want to get a bronze guy too!

I'd like to add another darker Granado doll to the fold at some point too. I thought it was going to be Gabe but…I'm afraid there's a Switch boy that is arm wrestling for my wallet at the moment. I haven't gotten a new Granado doll in a while…I feel slightly in withdrawal about it…lol

Say where are all the bumming around pics….I don't think this applies but they are certainly goofing around.

 

I got a reply from Granado.
They also think that the head wasn't properly finished off before being shipped out, and they are deeply sorry for this and offered me a 10% discount on my next order for this. They also thanked me for telling them so they can check if something is wrong.
They also told me I should try to buff out the scratches (which I already did as good as possible), since the Bronze skintone can be sanded with minimal color difference.

I'm very pleased with their answer, Granado has a fantastic customer service (and super fast too) and I'm very glad their Bronze skintone is sandable.
Now they just need to release a new head I like for the Lads body so I can use these 10%

I see a lot of new posts but No body has answered my question: How well does the newer Grandado resin match up with Volks? (NS)

I found a Resin comparison thread but I think that I might be the older Grandafo Resin. so I wanted to ask if anyone has the New Normal skin and and a volks BJD who can give a description on how well the resins match?

 

Hi Elysion Gear, I don't have the ones you want to know about, but I remember that the old Granado normal was made to match Volks normal. If that's true, new normal would be too pink?? Maybe someone here can check and answer your question.

 

Ara*, I am happy that the problem is solved. Granado has good customer service and that why I like them.

Elysion - Sorry, but I don't have any normal (new or old) Granado dolls, so can't help. It's not that you're being ignored, we're just waiting like you, for someone that knows to reply.

So! In the announcement/news section, Granado said they're not going to do away with the 64/68 bodies. :

Elysion gear, Ikaru might know if Volks matches new pink Granado since I think she has both...I don't have any Volks at all here.

 

Since each batch resin had a little color difference, it's hard to tell if they are 100% match.
But IMO Volks normal (2013) and Granado new normal (2013) match great. Slight color difference may find after you painted the head. :-)

Well, I decided that if I can still get old-style 68 bodies later, I would spend my paycheck on Gabe, since you could almost say he's a merman and he looks like Vo6's little brother. But now I have to really hope Crocus doesn't come out with any girls I want later in the year, like another Taya, because I will be in a fix for sure... I probably won't have any more extra money until November. I did finally get the carpet going for the stairs since it was so horrible even I couldn't ignore it any longer.

 

Phew. Good thing about the bodies, cause while I like the Lads body, I purchased Nihlus because I wanted him muscular.
And I rather like the hip joint ^^° Would miss it if it were gone, I think.

I said I was going to do a bumming around picture this weekend but we weren't home long enough for me to attempt it. I'll try again today. My little baby has to sleep some time!

I like that Granado does this kind of event, even thought I will not take advantage of it for a while. Acutally, unless my plans are complete, I hope I won't fall for any other doll ^^° I have to save up for an Iple girl. Granado must not tempt me >< (thought they are working really hard on it already...)

 

Sigh. Of course. . . when I don't have any money to spare. I guess Nico isn't meant to be. At least I'll be able to save for a Titan body. I could always get off my lazy rump and sculpt a head myself.

 

Snowy and Risou, yes, I did get Gabe...I looked at the Sunshine option for a long time-- but since I needed to be cheap, I went for just NS and blank, though I know I will be struggling to paint him when he comes!

I'm still excited though after I finished the purchase I suddenly thought.... OH NOES I HAVE NO CLOTHES THAT SIZE.

I really should just do what Alewife says and make them all naked all the time.

Risou I hope so-- but I suspect the Lad's body more thin and taller than my old Delf SD boys so the clothes will look like he borrowed his cousin's clothes... hehe!

Trethowan, BlitheFool, thank you guys! I literally cried when I saw them for the first time and I still find it hard to believe that both of them are mine. I could stare at them for the whole day and not get bored at all.

Trethowan - I love this couch and ... the poses of both boys who sit on it. So lifelike! My perverted mind tells me that they could do a couple more things there together (I know, I know - shame on me :P)

Yep! It happened pretty much like that. I'd stuck a onesie on Jim as a lark while folding laundry. It fit! When my little guy grew out of the sweatsuit I gave it to Jim. He was around 15 pounds at the time of the picture but he's closer to 17 now. He's big for his age. He is 4 months now and he's already in 6 month clothes.

Carter brand should do well in the 0-3 size. The shoulders will be a little snug and the waist will be too big. Of course arm and leg lengths will be off. Baby pants are Titan shorts, and sleeves won't pull all the way down, but Target has baby clothes on clearance all the time so it's easy to find something quick while waiting for proper scaled things. A friend is making him a sweatsuit, but it will be a while so it's good to have a backup. Guaranimals runs really big in the torso so that won't fit the doll at all. Gerber runs small so the 0-3 month onesies are a little snug on the doll. The Newborn (up to 8 pounds) will be way too small in Gerber.

Titan feet are too long and skinny though, for baby socks and shoes. It has already been posted but I'll repeat it just for the sake of folks newer to the thread, the Dollmore Glamour Model shoes will fit. I'm really excited about that, I joined in a group order for Dollmore and so Jim will have two pair of shoes when the order arrives.


Thanks Stary. I try to get realistic poses for my guys. Even with the Titan it's easy to do.

Stary_Zgred - I can seed why you're thrilled. Those face ups are gorgeous!!!! I'm usually not a fan of facial hair painted on dolls but that stubble is well done. Can't wait for the wigged & dressed versions.
Aernath - Water gun fight&#8230;hehe&#8230;! Who won? I suppose they could be bumming around if they were supposed to be mowing the lawn and weeding the flower beds.
