Resin Comparison Granado bronze with Iplehouse light brown?

Jan 6, 2022

    1. I’m thinking of buying Granado Enoch in bronze (resin doll, not vindoll, I know they have a different colours), but I don’t really like Granado bodies, so I wanted to match it with Iplehouse light brown, but I can’t find any good photos of neither granado’s bronze, or iplehouse light brown. If someone owns dolls on any of these, I would love to see some photos! :eusa_pray

    2. Okay, so I kept this tab open since I saw your post in order to not forget to take a picture for you
I have a pretty recent Granado Bronze (November 2021), with my most recent light brown tan from Iple being July 2020.

I got good and bad news for you.
Good news, at least in real the match is extremely good. There is a slight difference due the texture of the resin, more about that below, but otherwise I was surprised how well it matches.
With a face-up there would be absolutely no difference.

Now the bad news, when I photograph it...it does not look like a good match. At all
I tried both my phone and my camera and both show the same: Granado is more saturated/orangey, Iple less saturated/reddish.
Here's the unedited picture straight from my camera:

Here's one that I edited slightly to get closer to how they look like in real. I added a bit of blue/removed yellow on Granado, and did the opposite to Iplehouse:

Now to the resin difference: the regular, non-glow Iple resin is very toothy and a bit "dry" looking.
Meanwhile this Granado batch feels a lot more soft and shiny. It's not a true translucent resin (I have an old Bronze head that is way more translucent), but you can tell it's a mixture to get a bit of that softness without having it look too translucent.
That's also why I say you would need a face-up to make it match completely, because they behave very differently right now in how they reflect light/the difference in surface texture is very apparent.

If you'd go with Granado body, Iple head:
you can add a bit of semi-gloss sealant to the head at the end, it gives it a more realistic skin-sheen vs. the completely flat sealant. You can also add some flat sealant to the body, maybe with a hand/collarbone blushing. That should help in getting them match.
If you do Iple body, Granado head: the flat sealant should dull down the head enough for it to work.

      Hope this helps :)

    3. :XD::XD:
OMG, you can’t even imagine how much it helped me! My plan was to buy Granado Enoch head on iplehouse body, so it seems to be a easier way to match these difference, as I’m using mat sealant, which can “calm” a bit this shiny resin texture of Granado’s. And it would be easier to match than white Pygmalion head with spiritdoll normal I did recently XD
Now I’m super tempted to buy it soon! I’m happy that my plan actually has a chance to work :D I spent hooursss on research for the perfect body for my character, which I would like and which has a colour that could be similar enough. It was the longest research over resin colours I did for now :’)
So thank you so much for these photos and description, I have my hope back <3

    4. No problem, glad to help! I hope they haven't changed the resin too much and that your hybrid will work!

May I ask, which Iple body do you want to get? You might have to mod the neck since the Iple neck has this odd shape, very different compared to Granado.

    5. I’m thinking about E.I.D. I’m aware that I will have to mod the neck, as I’ve heard that iplehouse necks are incredibly long, and could be too wide for Granado’s.

    6. Okay, so I took some more pictures for you
Just phone ones this time, and not exactly pretty.

Left is my old Enoch head from 2016. My new one is with the wig maker atm, but my new one is for the Adagio 70cm body (pictured) and the old one was for the Embody/Evol. I thiiiink they were pretty much the same in size though.
Right is my old old Iplehouse Arvid, on the EID model body (from 2012).
In case the images don't show up, here's the album on Imgur: imgur.com

You can already see the head difference. EID heads are huge, while Granado heads are pretty small for 70cm guys.

Neck comparison. Right is the infamous Iplehouse mushroom top neck.

      Enoch on the EID body.
      Doesn't really fit, sadly.

Now here is the thing, Granado also has the 75cm Adagio body. I painted a couple heads for them last year, and the heads meant for the 75cm body fit perfectly on the EID body. I used one of my EID bodies to take pictures of the faceups.

Here's an example, you can't see much but like said, it works pretty nicely. I also was able to put the heads onto the DF-H 75cm body.

So if Granado offers a 75cm Adagio version of Enoch, you might be lucky to get this to work without a mod:)

    7. Omg, I saw the photo of their necks once, but I’m still like: why they are doing this? XD It looks so funny, and doesn’t help hybrydations at all. Thank you for sharing all this photos.
My problem is that actually my boy can’t be higher than 70-72 cm, because all of my boys are 68-71, and in story they are tall, so… :’c So i have to look for 70cm body.
I’ve heard that iplehouse resin is not taking very well the sanding, I don’t know how about the new resin they got. So I’m now wondering if moding would work on light brown at all. Hmm. I think I have to do another research on this topic XD

Is the head of adagio bigger than the others from Granado? I have to ask them if they offers anything like this.

    8. The issue with the Iple resin is the toothy texture. Once it's sanded it is too polished compared to the rest, and it also lightens up the resin.
If it's covered by the head it's not that bad, and in fact they did sand around the opening.

Adagio body is available in 70cm and 75cm size :) My new Enoch is on the 70cm Adagio.
And the heads I had for 75cm were around the size of the EID heads, which makes sense because otherwise their neck holes and overall size would not fit proportionally.

I had two Andrew heads as well. One for the old bodies (like Nuevo), and one they released as Evol.Andrew for their (back then) newest body, Evol.
Evol version has a way bigger neck hole and the head is a bit bigger too.
So if they plan to release old heads for their 75cm Adagio, the heads would need to be bigger as well.

    9. Thank you so much for everything you explained to me, for sharing your experience. It helped a lot! I think I have no more questions after all of this! :XD:
And what I have to say is I love your work, you’re really talented! I’m on very beginning at faceup skill myself. :sweat
