GoGaDoll 2009 Discussion Thread

Dec 3, 2008

    1. WOW, thank you so much for sharing the pictures! Many lovely dolls!:D
      :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

    2. Ooo, thanks for posting these pics jarmie! it's a nice treat for those of us who couldn't make it!

    3. Pics and wedding ceremonies to follow after finals. For now, here's that first place video contest entry of this year's GoGaDoll. I was honored to have participated and was glad people enjoyed it.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9m4lAfKI-A

I hope this video inspires more people take up doll video production and hope to see more entries next year.

      -Tom

      PS: Yo-Joe says hi.

    4. I just watched your video and loved it! Congratulations on winning at gogadoll. I hope the other people who entered will post their videos too- I didn't see them there.
You might want to advise Yo-Joe to kind of downplay the fact that he's a Dodgers fan when he's up here in San Francisco, however.....;)

    5. Piles of pics but too tired to edit and share tonight will try to do a few tomorrow...

    6. Hello, everyone!

I'm really tired, but I just wanted to let everyone know what a wonderful time I had this weekend! This was my first doll convention, and I decided to go all the way and spend the entire weekend there - it was wonderful. I met so many nice people, and the shopping was great, and the wedding was so sweet and funny... I could go on and on. :whee:

I failed, though ~ told myself to not buy any dolls, and to concentrate on clothes, wigs, and accessories... but I couldn't help myself. I bought one of those little FOFs from Peak's Woods. Playing with Pan's little boy at the Opening Ceremony was too much... he's so adorable! ^-^

Everyone's darlings were so lovely, too ~ I'll have to get my photos tomorrow! I wish I could have seen everyone, but if I did meet you, I'd like to keep in touch - I was the one with the Latidoll Irene. >3<

Hope to see everyone's pictures tomorrow ~ :)

    7. RE: I still can't get past the Sarah Palin minister. *laughs* That was just too classic. Gunsmith-cat was talking to me about how his doll Yo-Joe supported her and everything, and the next thing you know, we both saw her at the wedding ceremony. How trippy is that?

I had so much fun at this convention, and I know for a fact that a lot of thought process, planning, and effort really made this event an enjoyable experience for everyone. This was definitely a great con. I can't wait for next year, but until then, I think everyone deserves some R&R before we get into this again. :)

Of course, it was so funny when I came back home. I felt as though as I had been walking for so many days without really having a chance to sit down. When I got home yesterday, sat on my bed, and took my shoes off, I was like, "awwww..." *laughs* I totally melted onto my bed. God, I can only imagine how I'd feel had I come back from a camping trip. *laughs*

Anyway, I've gotta get my day started at work. Great show everyone!!! :)

    8. Wow! So nice to see so many cute pictures already! I'm afraid that I was running around so much that I hardly had a chance to even look at all the fabulous dolls at the con, let alone take pictures of them. I hope that someone will start a thread in the events gallery so that even more pictures can be shared.

I really, really can't thank our attendees, vendors, Guests of Honor, contributors, volunteers and staff enough for all coming together to create a wonderful con! The con really is by fans, for fans and it wouldn't happen without a team effort on everyone's part. Thank you, everyone, and big hugs!:aheartbea

      Kelly

    9. Thank you for the pictures!! Everyone looks so good, and the tipsy wedding guest is cute..(and those Iplehouse guys are so smexy! ;)

    10. First off .... A huge THANK YOU to all the hard working staff of Gogadoll for making this happen, especially in these tough days! And another huge THANK YOU to all the sponsors who were so generous with their donations! The prizes were unbelievable! Everyone really out did themselves and everything felt really smooth with so many, many door prizes! It was great to meet some new people, see their gorgeous dolls and catch up with old friends!

I had so much fun and I'm really hoping that there will be another one next year because I would love to come back!

I've started a thread in the Gallery - Meetups and Events for photos: Click for Gogadoll Photos

    11. WHEW!

Thanks, everyone, for joining us for the GoGa. I really hope everyone had a good time. Like Kellyhime, I am looking forward to the picture page, so I can see all the dolls I didn't have a chance to see! X_X

    12. The Goga was a blast this year! So many fabulous prizes (no I didnt win any :(
But I had a great time anyway. I met a lot of fabulous people. There were a few of you I wanted to meet but our paths didnt cross unfortunately. Kelly fabulous job as well as everyone envolved. It was a really fun event. I got to see some gorgeous dolls. I picked up a few gorgeous outfits. I got to hang out with my good friend Roweena23 and her hubby. And added another doll to my list!!! Wakeup Goldie

I almost forgot all the classes were awesome. Lyn and Cheryl's faceup class was awesome ( I missed the faceup class last year) and Lyn's freckle demo made me feel like I could do that! So thanks to you both for all your invaluable information now I just need your talents!

    13. Ooops sorry

    14. I really apologize that I couldn't make it this year! I didn't realize it was going to be on Father's Day weekend and I booked a bunch of events to do with my dad and father-in-law before I realized the conflict!

I'll be there next year though, and I am so happy to hear that it went off smoothly! Great job GoGaDoll!

    15. Is there a "lost and found" for the conference?

    16. If there is a lost and found, my doll dropped her little pink felt elephant. She had just gotten it as a present. I retraced my steps but it wasn't there, so someone must have picked it up. If someone has it I would be happy to pay the postage to get it back.

    17. I know there were a few items that were found, I'm sure when Kelly reads this thread again she will know more about that.

I had a great time! Thank you for everyone who came, especially those that visited my Spa night! It was a lot of fun meeting many new people and seeing a lot of old friends as well :)

    18. Indeed we do have a few items that were left and strangeangels has hung on to them. I don't believe that there was a pink elephant among them, but if you're missing anything else, please check with her.

    19. The entire event was a blast. I got safely home this year, due to DirtyD's driving. :) Thank you staff for running such a great event, I look forward to next year.

      -Anneke

PS. and congratulation for all the winners! YAY

    22. Hi, this is Pan from PW. Thank you for everybody who arranged and performed GoGaDoll Covention that wonderfully. Not only me but also Kyungmin had a very much fun time. I was very impressed by your wonderful and interesting programs and all of your sweet hearts as well. I personally send my biggest thank to Kelly, Yvonne, Daniel, Alex, Rima, and so many others who I didn't get a chance to catch a name. And especially PW doll owners, thank you very much for bringing your precious all the way to show us how they are doing. All of them seemed very very happy. :) It was a very interesting event but at the same time it was very charitable. I wish I can be more supportive next year.
Thank you very much everyone for everything. It was great seeing you. Take care~

    23. Pan and Kyungmin Thanks so much for coming to the Goga. I was so excited to see Goldie in person. And now I have fallen in love with Wake up Goldie. I am hoping my husband will get her for me for Xmas. I loved all your gorgeous outfits. I wanted to buy every one of your dolls. I hope you'll be here next year as well.

    24. Yes! Thank you and Kyungmin for coming, Pan! I've always loved the Peakswood dolls and it was wonderful to see them in person! My best friend is very sad she wasn't able to come and meet you all in person.

    25. The Peakswoods dolls were truly stunning in person - I wish everyone on DOA had a chance to see them. And Pan and Kyungmin were so lovely to work with! Thanks to all for an amazing time. Next year can't come soon enough!!!!

    26. Had a great time, although it was a smaller event than last year. It would be lovely to see you all again next year!

    27. Thank you all so very much for such a wonderful experience! Fans/collectors and staff alike make this one of my favorite conventions, period. I spent most of my time in the dealers room, but it was great to see so many familiar faces as you walked around and visited with us (and as we shmoozed with the other vendors before the hall was open). Like everyone else, we're hoping that we can have a great time again next year.

There was one thing we were curious about as we reminisced over dinner tonight... do we have an attendance count for this year?

    28. I'm curious about the attendance count, too!

I was also wondering if anyone knew the name of Anu's new website? I know she donated some outfits for the raffle, but I can't remember the name of her new store.

    29. We'll get those figures up once we have a chance to count all the registration forms and enter them into our spreadsheet (but the staff is taking a little bit of a break this week).

      Anu's new site is http://www.sweet-breezes.com/

    30. Thanks so much!

    31. Actually Anu has a second website (3rd if you count Tensiya) as well ....

      http://romantic-breeze.com/

It should be up in a few days. ;)

    32. I'm also curious to know who won the raffle prizes.

    33. Lost and Found!!

I have a few lost items that were turned into the Registration desk:

***Two small items were found near the chairs next to the Main Events Hall (where the Mass Wedding Event took place).

***One small utensil was left on the Registration table.

PM me with a description of the items and I will send them out to you.

Thanks everyone, for making GoGaDoll 2009 such a fun event!! :sumomo:

    34. Sorry cirqemom, no elephant was turned in to us, but maybe someone reading this thread found it and will contact you. Hope your girl finds her plushie!

    35. If not I can always give her another one. I'm the one who originally gave it to her. :)

    36. Actually, SnowLeopard found her and is sending her back to me!
      (Thank you so much Yvonne!)

I was very bummed- my doll carried her around for quite a long time, then right before I left I noticed she had dropped the elephant. She was a gift that Leloi made and specially brought to gogadoll for me, so it also kind of has sentimental value too!

    37. There were so many raffle prizes that would be a long list, I don't think we compiled a list of names but those who won might be willing to tell you :)

    38. Well, I bought more raffle tickets than I've ever bought in my entire life total (still not very many though :sweat ) in an attempt to get the Atelier Soda outfit for one of my girlfriend's dolls. Failed. I did win a Dollheart MSD outfit (the plaid wolfy one) though, which I promptly handed over to her for her Schulze.
I think it would have been really cool to have individual raffles for each item rather than groups of items. I would have bought a lot more tickets had that been the case.

    39. I bought a bunch of tickets too! It was nice to have the dolls in two groups, since I was able to focus on one group of dolls that I really wanted! I do agree though, having individual raffles and/or more small groups of items would make it easier for people to win what they want!

    40. I agree with the raffles for individual items! But they were really amazing prizes! And so many too *_*

    41. I had a great time! Thank you putting together a fantastic convention and thank you everyone who brought their gorgeous EID boys...definately sold me for wanting one.

    42. I'm curious because I bought a bunch of raffle tickets too... and I couldn't stay for Sunday. So I wonder if there's a list somewhere.

    43. I had a great time :D I just returned home from San Fran today. We stayed a few extra days to see the sights. I still can't believe I won the raffle for the Peakswood Lady Bee

    44. It would also be a really easy way to determine which donations generated the most charity money, so those specific donors could be solicited for more in the future!

    45. If you won a raffle prize but were not there to claim it, someone (NathanKatt or Snowleopard, I think) will contact you.

    46. Well, I was very blessed for this convention ~ I won a total of three times. :whee: The first was on the first night - I was very lucky and got the chance to sit next to many of the Guests of Honor (Peak's Woods, Dollheart), and one of them had the little wine bubble bottle with the blue ribbon and stitches, so I won the amazing Golden Fer with the special stitching. :D It is beyond gorgeous. That was the highlight of the convention for me - I flipped out.

I also won the Wedding Raffle, which was a cute little wedding bag with an assortment of goodies inside. About five minutes after that, I found out I won a door prize, too - a pair of eyes, a necklace, and a wig! ^-^ So happy ~ I did buy some raffle tickets, but didn't win anything at the Closing Ceremony... but that's alright, since that Golden Fer was more than I ever expected to win.

I'm so happy for the others who won the variety of amazing goodies at the end, though! That's so exciting! ^^ Another congratulations to you all!

    47. LeLoi - I'm down to the last person that I need to contact - please PM me with your full name to see if you're on the very short list of people who were not present to pick up their winnings.

Also, would the person who won the Plastica Obscura outfit door prize at the Closing Ceremonies on Sunday also contact me -

      Thanks!
      Alex

    48. Your PMs are full so it bounced back. :)

    49. For anyone who saw the tanned Goldies in person, do they have little Vampire teeth? I still cannot tell by the pictures. Thank you Barb.

    50. Oh, sorry, still working on answering everyone!
Just to let everyone know, as of this morning, I've contacted all parties, either by email or by phone, whom are due a prize from the raffles. If you haven't heard from me directly, please try again next year! BLT! :)

      Alex

    51. Hi Everyone!

This is Charles from the Creature Cabinet (CCC). Thanks so much to everybody who organized, attended, arranged and/or performed at the GoGaDoll Convention. It was all so very wonderful and overwhelming and was an honour to be Guests of Honor ;-)
My sister Linda of Lin Murasaki Designs and I had an amazing and fun time.

We would like to say a special 'thank you' to:
Kelly & Robert, Alex, Katie, Julia, Rima, Yvonne, Daniel, Lucius, Zagzagael and so many others... Also thank you to all who brought us extra props from their own gardens/homes for the CCC Display (wooden branches, tree trunks, mushrooms...absolutely wonderful you helped us and saved our day!)

And I personally would like to thank all our CCC fans & CCC doll owners: thank you so much for especially attending the con to come and see the CCC Display / and or attending at the CCC interview, or meet Linda and me in person, it's much appreciated and makes us so happy to know that we are able to touch hearts internationally with our work ~ awesome!

      Donations
We were so glad to see that our two diminutive donations (Boneka Kayu's) we're so happily received :-) Thanks for the great pictures too :-)

So thanks again everybody for all your hard work & everything. It was our great pleasure, and hopefully we can come back next year!

      Have a wonderful day,
      Take care,
      Charles

    52. It was great meeting you Charles! I loved seeing all of your creations in person and hearing about your inspiration for them at the panel. We would love to see you back next year if you are able to come :) I look forward to Bubu joining my family, he was so cute in person! -Katie

    53. It was great to meet you, Charles, and I wish I could have spent a bit more time talking to you (I was stuck in the dealer's hall, so I didn't get to walk around the convention much). I hope we can all see you again next year! :aheartbea

Alex, your PM box is full and PMs are bouncing. When you have time, you might want to clear that out. ;)

    54. Lost pink elephant has been returned, thanks to snowleopard.

Thanks Yvonne! Now my little contortionist is happy again!
      :)

    55. I just wanted to pop in with a wrap-up message for GoGaDoll 2009. It really was a fabulous con and I'm so happy to have heard from so many attendees who had a great time!

I want to pass on some thanks to everyone who bought raffle tickets to support our two charities, Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly and Farm Sanctuary. After balancing the books, while we took in a total of $2,344 in raffle ticket sales, we were able to round the number up to $2,400 or $1,200 to each of our charities. These are small organizations and this sort of amount really makes a difference to them. So, from Gina and Bob at Little Brothers and Zoë at Farm Sanctuary, many, many thanks!

Finally, I know that I've gotten a lot of questions about our plans for next year. For most of the staff, while this was the first year for GoGaDoll, this was the third BJD con that we have worked on. While putting on the cons has been super rewarding for all of us, it's also a lot of hard work in addition to our other responsibilities and by the end of this one, we were just exhausted. Plus, as you know, it was also something of a financial struggle for us, especially with filling our hotel quota. Had we known that two months after we signed the hotel contract the economy would tank, we might have rethought doing the con at all. Luckily, everything worked out just fine, thanks to our wonderful attendees and donors, but since the economy doesn't seem to be improving any time soon, the staff at GoGaDoll has decided that it probably would be wise to take a year off and see how things are going next year for a 2011 con. However, our friends in Austin are having a BJD convention next August and we encourage everyone to support them. And please be sure to watch the GoGaDoll website and DoA for news of a future con!

So, again, thank you, everyone who attended or donated to GoGaDoll 2009! It was definitely a con by fans, for fans and it wouldn't have happened without you!:D

      Kelly
