GoGaDoll 2009 Discussion Thread

Dec 3, 2008

    1. Please check out my post in the New forum about next year's GoGaDoll, The Golden Gate Ball-jointed Doll Expo, which will be held in San Francisco on June 19-21. I will be updating the News thread, this discussion thread and our website with announcements, so be sure to watch them for exciting news!:)

If you have any specific questions about the con, please email me at [email protected]

See this post of details of the free admission special.

    2. Yay! This has become the convention I look forward to the most. So much fun this year! :D
So yeah, we'll be there. :goldstar
I really appreciate the fact that the new schedule might allow me to get out of the vendor's hall a little more too! :)

    3. Sounds great :D I like all the new ideas and the opening ceremony on friday night and the extra shopping time!!! I should be able to make it this year again.

    4. Looking forward to another great year :)

    5. Three cheers! :dance This year is going to be a smash! Anything that starts with cocktails, followed by a Designated Shopping Morning, can only be good.

I'll be handling the Volunteer workforce again this year, so stay tuned for news later. Looking forward to seeing as many of you at GoGaDoll as possible!

    6. Already registered. Can't wait. :)

    7. after dolpa20 AE.. I'll see if I can afford to register ^^; because I wanted to go this year.. but didn't have the money to ; 3;

    8. Opps. I think I goofed and commented there in the news section thread by mistake. Anyway, I think this con sounds wonderful and really hope I'll be able to attend in 2009!! :D

    9. I'm so excited. I had so much fun at this years convention. Even though I could only stay a few hours. I hope to make a weekend trip of it this time. Looking forward to seeing the schedule of events and vendors :D

    10. Yippee for the upcoming GoGaDoll Convention! It's an opportunity to spend time with long-distance BJD friends and connecting faces to fellow DoA members!

    11. I should really try to go this year!

    12. Someone else will have to orginize the carpool this year...

      -Anneke

    13. Sorry to be dense, but I'm not clear on whether Dollectable is continuing alongside GoGaDoll, if GoGaDoll is the new name for Dollectable, or if the new con is replacing the old. Also sorry if I'm treading on thin political ice with the question, but I'm from way out of town!

    14. No, that's okay for asking and it is a little confusing. GoGaDoll, short for Golden Gate Ball-jointed Doll Expo, is essentially the same as Dollectable -- very similar format, same location and 90% of the same volunteer staff -- but the one staff member who owned the Dollectable name moved out of the state, so the remaining staff came up with a new name. We wanted something that was more regionally specific, since we are the only West Coast BJD convention.:)

Thank you so much, everyone, for your words of support! We really hope that all of you can make it to the con!:aheartbea

    15. Since I'm back in California, there isn't anything that's going to stop me from going this year. And best of all, I get to go as an attendee! Yipee!

    16. Well if I do any convention this summer it'll be this one. :)

    17. We decided to have a Holiday Special, since we know that this time of year is tough for everyone, so until December 31, 2008, registration is $10 off for adults (half price for children 6-12). So, for the full convention, including the Friday evening Opening Ceremony and Cocktail Party, registration is only $65 ($32.50 for kids) and for just the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, it's $50 ($25 for kids). Remember, attendance on Friday is limited, so be sure to register early to guarantee your spot!:)

Click here for the GoGaDoll Registration Page.

    18. I just preregistered! I'm so excited! I was really disappointed that I wasn't able to make it to last year's con.

    19. I am so interested Kellyhime. It is so very far away, but I do want to come. I always wanted to get to visit San Francisco. ~Gus

    20. I'm so glad that you can make it, FunnyLori!

I hope that you can come, Gus, and please bring your sweet grandmother too.:)

    21. Looking forward to being back. Already planning design, stock and booth. We look forward to this all year. We are also happy with the new date. One less back to back to back convention is always nice!

    22. All right, I am registered and paid up! With luck, hard work, and a hefty tax refund, I'll be able to craft and cast a body for my original head and bring her along with me.

    23. Thanks for clearing that up I was wondering about that as well. It will be nice to have one especially since Volks seems to have no more plans for a Dolpa and Elfdoll gatherings are only Elfdoll specific.

I hope to be moved up to the bay area by the time of the convention so I can attend.

I would love to volunteer for something as well but I dont want to commit unless I am sure that I could be there so maybe the year after next I would be able to help.

Either way I am glad and it sounds great.

    24. No no, my dear, please allow me to clear this misunderstanding up for you.

The Elfdoll gatherings/meet-ups at the ArtMaze store (Glendale, CA.) are open to all brand, size, and type dolls, not just Elfdolls. Please take a look at my web site, www.CoBroRa.com, to view some of the ArtMaze meet-ups that a have photographed in the past.

Events that have taken place at other locations involving Ms. Cholong, have never been limited solely to Elfdolls and their owners.

I recently co-hosted a ABJD panel at Pacific Media Expo with both Ms. Cholong and MieAge. While ArtMaze and Elfdolls were discussed at the panel, We talked about other dolls (companies) as well. I even had two of my Volks Dollfie Dreams present at the panel.

      TC

    25. We've even had Tonners, Blythes and old antique dolls (not even BJD's) come and enter super cute costumes in the costume contests.

Elfdoll has never had a policy banning any type of doll at their meet ups.

    26. wannabehokage - We certainly hope that you can make it! :) Our Vendors Services Director, Kiyakotari, should have the vendors' information up after the holidays, but in the meantime, feel free to email her with any questions.

glyndon - So glad that you can make it and I can't wait to see your new girl!

Aichan - I know that JennyNemesis, our Volunteers Director, would love to have your help!:D

Mr. Postman and MieAga - Ms. Cholong was an angel at the convention this year and we really hope that she will make it again next year. It's wonderful to have the presence of so many doll companies and collectors on the West Coast!

    27. Ack I didnt want to hijack the thread with elfdoll talk even though I love them and own both luts and a Elfdoll:fangirl:

Mr. Postman & Mieaga- Thank you for clearing that up for me. I guess I am just a ball of confusion. I really did think they were just for elfdolls only , which to me always limits the amount of guests but thank you for clearing that up for me. :)

Kellyhime- I know JennyNemesis from the board and she has always been sweet to me so I am sure it would be great working under her !

    28. Is there any word on when the 'hotel' information will be online. (What code or whatever to give them). Could call in but I tend to like to do things via on-line.

      -Anneke

    29. How tempting to attend again! I doubt we can do it for 2009 but perhaps for 2010. Let me see what I can do...

    30. Hey, I hope you can make it! Always nice to see new faces and peeps from the East Coast! Theres lots to see and do in San Francisco, and you'll be close to many attractions! Plus, all those BJDs.....
      Alex

    31. I'm sorry that I didn't post this sooner, but you can go here to book your hotel reservations online or call 415-441-4000 or 866-272-7098 and refer to group rate code SDL. The rates cover June 16-23, 2009, which is good for those of you who want to have a few extra days to visit the city. We have contracted 200 room nights and once those run out, so do the rates, so be sure to reserve early to make sure that you don't miss out.

And a reminder to everyone -- just one more week of the holiday special, so be sure to register soon!

      :treecookie:candycane:hollyberryHappy Holidays, Everyone!:hollyberry:candycane:treecookie

    32. Well I'm registered and room reserved. Lets see if gods co-operate for this second try >.<

I'm dying to get out there and see people. And Dennis wants to cover himself in OBD so St. James can fondle him ;) :hollyberry

    33. Yessss I want to go! Unfortunately I'll have to wait to register and see if I can afford it, but hey, there's always volunteering to cut the costs!

    34. So glad that you can make it and I'm sure that OBD is too!

JennyNemesis would be very happy for the help, so we hope that you can manage to come!:)

    35. Woo, I registered myself and my boyfriend. I'm so excited, I've never been to that part of the country before, and never to such a big con either. Any word on when the theme will be announced? My boyfriend's prodding me to enter a costume competition lately.

    36. Glad that you two can make it! We're going to start pulling the programming together in January, although we already have a lot of ideas for themes.:)

    37. Are you going to do a theme "poll", like this year's event?

      TC

    38. We're not sure yet, because we have a theme idea in mind that will cover the whole con, not just the contests. However, we'll be sure to announce it in plenty of time for all you costume designers, photographers and videographers.:)

    39. I had reserved my room, and then was able to update to the convention rate/put in the convention code. So others can do the same.

      -Anneke

    40. Just registered last night. I will be travelling with Glyndon, Sodapop and Hopefully Christy and Funnylori as well :D I can't wait until June!!!!!

    41. Kelly, any ideas on when the vendor information will be available?

    42. I'll be talking to Kiya this week about getting it posted soon. We all took a little break for the holidays, but expect lots of new stuff -- vendors, programming, contests -- by the end of this month.

I hope that everyone has a fabulous New Year!:celebrate

    43. my first doll con! 8D * tears of joy*

    44. darn i forgot all about the holiday special. Then again i wasn't sure if i'd be able to go this year. Is there still space for the friday cocktail party and opening ceremony/saturday/Sunday pass? I see that the option is still opened on the website, but wanted to make sure.

    45. aviatorfox - So glad that you can make it!:)

lildemon - We'll definitely remove the Friday evening option from the website and announce it here when the party fills up, so there's still space.

    46. Kelly: I have been very interested. Do you have any idea of the number of doll owners expected to attend? I never been so San Francisco and I am so excited! wow. ~Gus

    47. Gus - We're hoping for at least 300 and there could be more if our economy decides to behave. We'll have some information in the program about other places to visit in the city, but feel free to PM me if you have any general questions about San Francisco. I love talking about my native city and sharing it with others.:)

    48. Are there going to be workshops again this year? If I may make a suggestion, I would love to attend a sueding class. A hands on instruction would be very helpful.

    49. Oh, there definitely will be workshops again!:) We're working on the programming schedule now and will post it well in advance of the con.

    50. Hello lovely everyone! GoGaDoll's 2009 call for Volunteers is now open.

Everything we don't get done with our own hands, is all done by volunteers. You just can't get any more democratic than that. <3 So if you've pre-registered, your time at the con will be flexible, and you'd like to help out, then we'd love to have you on board. As Volunteer Manager, I will be your flight attendant and general overlord.

Please go here for all Volunteer information & discussion:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187938

Looking forward to seeing you all! :)

    51. RE: If you need any help getting around San Francisco (public transportation wise), you're more than welcome to PM me for more details. If you're thinking about renting a car, I would advise you not to do so. Traffic in downtown San Francisco is a pain, and parking is just murder. :p We have buses on almost every corner in San Francisco, and they run quite frequently. About 90% of the time, that's my means of getting around on a day to day basis. :)

    52. Kiyakotari should have the info ready soon. Please feel free to email her if you have any questions.:)

    53. I can't wait for this. I hope I can get the money to pre-reg and volunteer.

As for volunteering, I'll be turning 18 after I pre-reg...will that be fine. XD I'll be 18 way before the con...but just asking. :'3 *will be registering being 17 and turns 18 in March* XD

    54. Any word on the theme..? I want to know early, since I won't have that much time to work on things. x_x Since the months before the convention are all months I'm in class, and all.

    55. TsukiHiroshi - As long as you are 18 by June, it won't be a problem and we will love to have your help!

Suuchan - We should announce the theme by next month.:)

    56. Oh you better believe I will be there again this year!!! XDDD

    57. I'm going this year by hook or by crook! I registered last year and then couldn't make it afterall. Booo! I was so bummed. So I'm really looking forward to coming this year. I even registered early! BTW, I never got a confirmation of registration. Wasn't something like that supposed to be emailed? Or am I just confused? Wouldn't be the first time!

      Jay

    58. hooray :D Glad you are going this year Jay. hopefully we can hang out down there.

    59. darkawaii, Jay and MysteryAya - So glad that you can make it!

Jay - After you sent your payment, you should have been automatically directed to a thank-you page that said to print out your Paypal transaction email as your receipt. Unfortunately, we don't have the staff time to send individual confirmations. No need to worry though -- we've got you on our list.:)
