GoGaDoll 2009 Discussion Thread

Dec 3, 2008

    1. I didn't bring any extra outfits, but like you said I did end up buying a few outfits there ;)

    2. Oh no, I did even think about how many outfits to bring. I am still trying to decide on what dolls. I only want to lug one per day at a time. I definitely want to buy outfits my main reason for going.

    3. Britex is reeeeaaally expensive though. Still, it's probably worth a trip just to see the place. It's huge!

I've yet to decide what doll(s?) I'm going to have modeling, let alone what they're going to wear.
All I know is that I'm bringing my U-Noss (or at least her feet!), because I am determined to find cute shoes for her that fit her massive feet.*_*

    4. And Britex has really beautiful lace. I went there with my girlfriend when she was getting married for lace. It is huge and has some awesome fabrics. A sewers dream.

    5. OMG- Britex! (drools)
Four floors of fabric store, the top floor is nothing but buttons and trims.
Very expensive, but they have incredible fabric and they do have a good sale section where you can get great bargains.

Also- it's a ways away, but Fabrix on Clement is a wonderful, tiny little hole in the wall where you can find incredible bargains. Maybe a San Fran person can tell you which bus or muni to take.

    6. eep two days!!!!

    7. OMG, I am not prepared

Still do not know who to bring.... and what outfit to bring

    8. Oh, you're right about Fabrix and they probably have fun fur too. Also, there's Satin Moon fabric a block away on Clement, but while they have beautiful, fine fabric, I doubt if they have much fun fur. To get to both though, take the #2 Clement from Sutter and VanNess and get off at about 2nd Avenue & Clement.

    9. We'll actually have some fur for wig making at the booth i'm helping with. :3 I live near the LA fashion district so I went there and got a bunch... but it only comes in yard increments and that's WAY more than I can use! I have blue, red, two shades of grey, white and several brown. I think each piece is about 15x 24 inches- although there are a few larger and smaller pieces.

    10. Everybody, save some little 1/4" striplets from all those fake-fur scraps-- I've got a Rei-Tenshi who needs more different colored Mohawks in his collection. :XD: Yes, it's the Hair Club for Jimmy! Donations graciously accepted at the Volunteers Table!

    11. AACK!!! Less than two day countdown!!!!

Photography Panel - come ask us your questions! Our let's wax philosophical about why we take pictures of dolls!

Photography Flash Demo - one-on-one answers and critiques!

The con is going to be insanely fun! I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and new!

    12. Must finish dress for the doll that arrived six days ago! May I officially begin to panic now? (Thank Heaven I know what dolls I'm bringing, at least.)

    13. Oh yes. Full Metal Panic here. Doll arrived Monday. Sewing machine needle brakes while sewing pants Monday night. Finished pants Tuesday night and they were too big. Spent couple hours Wednesday morning adjusting pants and fixing some details. Still needs belt loops. Wednesday afternoon drafted shirt patterns and now need to sew shirt Wednesday night or Thursday. Gotta fix outfit accessories since cut belts too small. If outfit isn't done by Friday morning I'm bringing fabric and sewing machine with me!

    14. Ahahahaha just two days to go and I realized that I didn't have any stock that fits MSD particularly well.
Welp, now I know what I'm doing for the next few days!

    15. Looking forward to seeing lots of wonderful dolls and doing lots of shopping~ I'm so excited for GOGA Doll this weekend. ^^

    16. I'm flying tomorrow. And, uh... still sewing tonight. And probably tomorrow on the plane, too. :sweat But I do know who I'm bringing, and I've got a start on the packing, so that's something anyway...

I'm really looking forward to the con, even though I am driving myself crazy with last-minute sewing. I bet the con is going to be tons of fun though. :D

    17. I hope you guys get all your sewing done. ^^v I never really liked being half asleep and sewing at a table. People come up and you're like... uh... wha? It also never fails... you take out work to do when everyone decides to swamp you. May you be happily swamped!

      :)

    18. I've already given up :P my tall girl at least has something she can wear.. thank god for the vendor hall is all I can say! :3

    19. I have a pile of fun fur and mohair pieces I will have them at the swap meet.

    20. Haha, I'm not even a vendor, I'm just crazy I guess. Like deciding, uh, three days ago that Sparx really really needed a dress for the con. *_*

At least I'm just about packed now... well, except for the stuff I'm still sewing on. I don't need to head to the airport for a few hours yet... :P

    21. Zomg... Hopping on a train in a few short hours. :XD: See you all on the other side!

    22. I'll be joining you on that train in a few short hours! So excited! (I also have poptarts and goldfish crackers for train snax and I'm willing to share.)

    23. Have a safe trip, everybody! If you have tourist time, have fun and be safe! Remember, North are the piers and fisherman's wharf, east is the bay and Embarcadero Street. West is the ocean (there are some lovely ruins near the Cliff House at the very end of Geary called Sutro Baths). South is Market Street and it gets a little scary south of Market (unless you're near the ocean and then there's Golden Gate Park, the Zoo and San Francisco State University). The Metreon is on Market, Lombard is off of Hyde Street near Fisherman's Wharf and the Exploratorium is near North east boundary of the Presidio.

Have fun you out of town-ers! Lots of places to take dollie pictures. ^^v

As for Coit Tower or Palace Legion Honor... I don't know how to get there.

    24. Scary is in the mind of the beholder! The Metreon is also South of Market... and those dull-eyed capitalist zombie crowds terrify me. :XD:
Thankfully, it's not all zombiefied yet. The Museum of Modern Art & Yerba Buena Center for the Arts aren't far from the Metreon, south of Market around 3rd St.
Most of the cool restaurants & clubs are further south into SoMa, for those of you who are looking for nightlife. Pick up a free city paper from any dispenser on the street (i.e. SF Weekly) for local event-calendars, restaurant/bar reviews, etc.
Do not forget to visit Stormy Leather on Howard St. @8th, and pick up a souvenir for your mom.
The Mission District is also south of Market Street, and that's the best zone for killer burritos & cool old churches & big thrift stores, & shopping for excellent little Catholic tchotchkes that your dollies will love.

(Also, the Mission is where BiRite Creamery is. And that is where they make Salted Caramel ice cream that has been repeatedly described as being better than a Hitachi Magic Wand. Another pilgrimage.)

    25. also gonna be on that train. Weeeee I can't wait :D

    26. Take pictuuuurrreeess...it sounds like so much fun! (wistful, but hates planes).

    27. Last year, we had several minors (i.e., people under the age of 18) who arrived at the con with their over-18 guardians, but without any note or permission from the minor's parents. We would like to prevent that from happening this year.

Remember, it's not enough just to come to GoGaDoll with an over-18 friend. You must have written permission from your parent or legal guardian for your over-18 friend to be your designated guardian for GoGaDoll. Please be sure to bring a signed letter from the parent or legal guardian.

GoGaDoll's policy regarding minors can be found on our Registration page, here: http://www.gogadoll.com/registration.php

If you have a question, please PM me right away. :)

    28. You will always have my undying :aheartbea

    29. I'm sorry for not asking this before, and I know it's late for pokey questions like this, and maybe it's been answered, but I'm visiting my 90 year old mother in Berkeley and packing her up to move to Alabama where I live, and I'm taking Saturday off to come to the con, but I didn't preregister because I'm just doing the one day - do I need to hit an ATM for cash for the Saturday only registration or can you take an out of town check? I'm trying to hoard my now limited supply of cash to pay for things I might buy (I've been actively buying and shipping "exotic" foodstuffs back to Alabama and managed to not think about hoarding cash for the con). My mother is good for making my brain not work well. I'd offer a credit card, but since many cons take checks for pre-reg, they sometimes take them at the door, but they only take cc's via paypal and my cellph is just a phone with no other bells or whistles.

Thanks much, to whoever has a chance to answer this.

    30. Unfortunately, we can only take local checks, but there are both Wells Fargo and BofA ATMs within a block of the hotel.

Glad that you can make it though!:)

    31. We are here.

      Checked in.

      Had dinner.

Back to work...gotta get this stuff priced.

    32. I'm super excited! It will be my first event since starting this crazy thing we call BJDs. I'll have my boy with me and I can't wait to shop!

    33. I still have not packed. I have no idea who I am bringing. I cannot wait to shop. I will see you all tomorrow night!!!

    34. Woo hoo - see everyone tomorrow! I am so excited!

    35. I'm ready to see everyone, too! :whee: I'm nervous, but excited. I just know I'll forget something, though... I better go through all my stuff again. *_*

    36. I can't wait to see all of you tomorrow!~~ Thank you Staff for organizing this :D

    37. Ooof. Well, I'm finally settled in the hotel, more or less... it's been a long day, and it ended with the discovery that one of Zalera's fingertips broke off in transit. :...( A screwup with my baggage ended up routing the bag through the main baggage claim, instead of the cart thing they're supposed to do at the gate... so really, a broken fingertip is by no means the worst thing that could have happened. I completely panicked when my bag did not appear at the gate! :horror: He's already had a temporary hot-glue repair, and I'm not going to freak out too badly... it's just a shame he's gray so I can't just get him a new hand from DoD. :( To anyone at the con who has to put up with my moaning about my bad luck, I apologize in advance. This is... well, the first time one of my dolls has had anything more serious than a barely-noticeable chip, and the first time Horizon has screwed up on me like this, so I'm a little unnerved I guess.

BUT! I will enjoy the con. And before I do, I'm going to finish the handsewing! Zalera will have a new outfit to console him over his broken finger... :sweat

    38. still one day before the con, but I already cannot sleep well at night= =||||
Only take about 4hr sleep last night and keep thinking about con...

    39. Off train, hotel room is had, dolls are unpacked, all is well.

    40. My aunt is sick, she won't be able to take me to GoGa :(

But! My sister is still driving me up there when she leaves for a competition tomorrow, so I am still attending...just now all alone >.<; Hopefully I'll be so busy with all the goings on I won't notice.

    41. You'll meet a bunch of wonderful new people anyway, I promise!

Awwyeah, party tonight! I'm still not ready at all, but at least I have my clothes picked out! XD

    42. I have two EIDs and a small couch crammed into my shopping-cart, cocktail dress unceremoniously stuffed on top. Let's see how long it takes me to walk 7 blocks. :XD: See you all there soon!

    43. This is probably a bit late to be asking, but will I need to be bringing my seller's permit and vendor contract when I go to pick up my badge tonight, or do I only need to bring it tomorrow morning?

    44. Barely got my thing packed, ran out of time last night - thus I am going with the back up plan and bring Ichigo Jr (since he fits in the carry on and has some clothes LOL)

Will be on a plane late this evening and arriving late like always

      YAY

    45. I'm afraid that you'll need those both tonight to get your badge.

I'm just home briefly before going to pick up the AV equipment. I was really nervous yesterday about all the last minute things left to do, but everything is coming together, mostly because of the fabulous team I have. Now, I'm just super excited to see everyone and all their lovely kids!:D

    46. Good thing I asked, then! I didn't want to bring them in the event that they got bent, but I'll just stick them in a folder and toss them in a bag or something. :>

    47. Does anyone from SJ or near it have interest in commuting together on saturday?

    48. not just a your sellers permit but a copy of it they can keep.
We misunderstood that bit of info and it made the check in a bit longer.

    49. Really want to join, but can't.. :(

Looking forward to seeing your pictures! :)

    50. How informative to read all of these posts! I will try to check in periodically this weekend to see if any pictures are posted. Hopefully some year I'll be able to join in on the fun! My goal is to someday make it to the salesoom and buy lots of stuff for my dolls. I hope everyone has lots of fun!!!!

    51. Overall it's just too expensive, unless I find someones to commute...

    52. Does anyone who is at GoGaDoll have any thoughts or impressions on the Goldies (open eyed and wake-up). I'm tempted to try the web site for one and the web pics of the wake-up Goldie still leave me undecided. thanks, Barb in MA

    53. Wee! :whee: I am having so much fun! Taking a small break in my hotel room, and my money load is a lot lighter... but it's a blast so far! :)

    54. You'll have to buy the wakeup Goldie at the convention if you want her, I think she's already sold out on the site. Myself, I thought she was gorgeous. (And have one on the way). And you just can't beat the price with the outfit, wig, and shoes included!

Nope, my mistake - there's still 3 left on the website. I probably wouldn't dawdle, though, if you do want ther.

    55. thank you Justkatie179

    56. I just got to say, if you get the chance, stop by the guy who's making photos of your dolls. He's incredible!!

    57. Oooh, agreed. I hope the girl who had the Iplehouse hunk of chocolate love posing with a fig leaf posts her pictures, I was dying laughing.

    58. Sounds like everyone is having such a great time. Wish I could be there too!! XD

Oooh yes Lisianthus get a Goldie, she is gorgeous!!

    59. Ah, Richard Man of ImageCraft: http://www.rfman.com/
I do love his work. ^_^
