GoGaDoll 2009 Discussion Thread

Dec 3, 2008

    1. Another reminder about our Photography "Flash Demo" - bring a print of an image of yours you would like critiqued. I should have a laptop with me so .... you should be able to also bring an image on a thumbdrive, but I can't say for sure until next week. There will be several of us working the "Flash Demo" so you should get some helpful tips!

    2. Don't forget the GoGaDoll Wedding and Commitment Ceremony on Sunday!

Bring your bjd couples, groups and singles and please don't forget to bring STANDS too!

Looking forward to seeing your beloved BJDs there at the wedding! Light refreshments will be served!

      Alex

    3. I feel the same way. Don't think I'll ever be lucky enough to own one but I can at least oogle the pictures :sweat

    4. i'm so excited to meet everyone! I'll have a Gamma, Alpha and Epsilon with me, as well as Twigling's new girl, Ylisande! If you want to play with/see either of them, feel free to flag me down and ask! :D YAY!

Last year was such a great time! Can't wait to see everyone again! :aheartbea

    5. Oh, Batchix, I'll have to track you down at the booth! I really want to see Ylisande in person - I'm getting one, and I'm all excited about her!

    6. Yay Bats! It will be so good to see you again! And the boys!! And Ylisande! :D

I'm now officially in the panicky stage of realizing how few days left we have to get ready. :o:o:o*_*

    7. This! And I just ran out of some of my materials! *_*
      I'm still really excited though!

    8. Hah, tell me about it! :shudder I have to be ready by - get this - SUNDAY MORNING AT 07:00. *_* :...( Because I catch my shuttle down to the airport shortly after 08:00, and if I'm not ready for the convention by then, I'm SCREWED. :barf :huh?: :crushed

    9. RE: This looks like one of Kelly's dress designs. Did she make this? It's so beautiful. :)

As for pre-con stress, yeah, I'm going through that as well. I want to make sure that I have plenty of items for the swap meet. Man, so much to do and so little time. :( I'm gonna need all the time I can get on Sunday, and the rest of this week as well.

    10. Yep, yep *nods* pre-con stress in bucket loads!

Looking very forward to seeing everyone again - and new faces, too!

Our Photography Panel is going to rock and roll - come join us and hear what Kyotopunk, Jenny Nemesis, crybabymommie, Kittymaru and myself have to say about photographing dolls!!!

    11. I, on the other hand, am completely ready and relaxed, just sitting here in the lotus position and contemplating how well organized I am.

Definitely not still sewing and taking pictures and making display items and running out to buy more thread, nope.

    12. If you do manage to find a parking spot on the street, day or night, BE SURE to not leave ANYTHING visible in your car. Please make sure you put any back packs, shopping bags, suitcases, etc, in the trunk where it can not be seen from the sidewalk.

San Francisco is actually a pretty safe city, esp. in the daytime (just use your common sense), but car break-ins on the street are not uncommon. Really- it is much better to use the parking garage, and the special rates the hotel is offering are very reasonable for SF.

    13. Thank you for adding this and it's quite true. However, even though there will be security in the hotel garage, please don't leave anything that could look tempting -- which includes doll bags -- visible in your car. Always better to be safe than sorry.

That is a gorgeous dress, but it's not one of mine I'm afraid.:sweat

Just think, a week from today we'll all be together having dolly fun! I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!:celebrate

    14. Be very careful when street parking--look for and read all posted signs. Allowable times can be limited to valid permits, for a limited time, or prohibited due to street sweeping, etc. If you're not sure, don't park there. Not only can the car be ticketed, it can also be towed away. The towing lot is in a bad side of town and the penalty is about $700 to ransom your car.

just a reminder--be prepared for cool and windy weather! I really feel bad seeing visitors shivering in the wind...:shudder

    15. crpsaiyan - Its a custom house unique set for Choa - the set was called 'Happy Wedding' from about 2005/2006. Too bad CH isn't making as many unique sets these days....:(

      Alex

    16. Question:

Will there be wireless internet at the convention? I was wondering because I want to bring my small laptop to chit-chat with my friends who aren't able to attend. P: And tell him how the convention is and so forth!

    17. There is free wireless in the rooms and the ground floor lobby. However, downstairs, where the convention will be, there will not be free wireless for the attendees, because we have to pay for it, so that the vendors can have internet access.

    18. Alright~ Also, one more question. I might have missed it on the website but what is the method of payments for most of the vendors? I know like Peakswood and Dollheart will probably use Paypal. I know cash will be one of the main ways too. Thanks~ :3

    19. I'll be operating cash-only, due to concerns about Paypal freezing either my account or those of my customers because of multiple accesses from the same IP. There are several bank machines within easy walking distance, though. :)

    20. Yes, I think that most vendors would prefer cash, except for DollHeart and Peak's Wood, who can only take Paypal preorders. As Brennil said though, there are Wells Fargo, BofA and Chase banks a block away or less and I have them marked on a map that will be included in your attendee folder.

    21. *nods* I was thinking about that. XD Running off to find my bank or an ATM to withdraw money from. Haha.

    22. Less then a week left! Epp! Like I am sure many of us vendors are (though I know some won't admit it ;3) I am furiously sewing away to make sure I have lots of great stuff to bring to gogadoll. I've pulled out a LOT of fabric from my many bins, as like many other seamstresses. You don't buy fabric when you need it, you buy it when you SEE it. So, Here is my question to YOU attendies.
What would you like to see?
      Pretty pastels
Bright summer colors ( stripes, stars, gigam, and checks in yellows, blues, bold pinks and reds)
Halloween in June! (i've been stock pileing halloween fabrics for the past two years. Lots of cute designs, stripes and patterns)

Ok guys! Hit me with your best shot! :)

    23. I'd love to see stripes myself!

I guess I should ask what type of colors people would like to see in terms of jewelry, since I need to go pick up more supplies tomorrow. I've mainly been working in teal and purple. *_*

    24. Oooh, for clothes I love royal blue and emerald green, myself. Actually, now that I think about it, same with jewelery. I am so excited about this convention!

    25. Dollovely (me) and Pixiedust (clochette) both take Paypal by phone and of course cash.

Paypal by phone is easy easy easy and I love it.
Both vender and customer must be signed up but it only take 3 minutes to activate.
Go to Paypal, sign in and follow the instructions.

I have been sewing around than 8 hrs a day for a couple weeks now
so I will have new items for this event.

I'd love to know what styles people are looking for to round out the sewing this week.

Most of my goods are SD-SD16 size.
I do carry some things in EID, 70cm (girls and boys) and Unidoll.
I have multiple of most things.
here's a taste of some of the goodies I will have...

    26. Moar musical notes!!!!!!!!!! <3<3
      and halloween ;)

    27. Oh Pam, pleeze bring Giant Boy Pants! :abambi:

    28. If I get time I will try...several other items ahead of those.

    29. Pam those dresses look adorable. I have a feeling this Goga is gonna put me in a little debt. Thank goodness it is only once a year.

OH, and yes Halloween in June. I have lots of Vampire girls so the dark stuff is a must.

    30. Omg, you guys won't believe this. I went to the hotel yesterday thinking it was the weekend of the convention. :doh Good thing I didn't haul my suitcase with an SD boy in it, I just packed my Zuzu Lion in my bag...!

Also, wannabehokage, I'd like to see summer checks and stripes x3

    31. Ahahahaha oh wow, I just woke up from a nightmare where I remembered all my stock (and apparently had enough of it) and my seller's permit, but forgot my signed vendor's packet. GG, self!

Hopefully that'll be enough to remember to bring it!

    32. Would you believe I did the exact same thing yesterday? What time did you get there? I was there around 11am. I went downstairs and it was too quiet. There was some thing for like CPAs or whatnot. I felt so silly.

But now I know to transfer to the Van Ness MUNI bus from Geary.

    33. Please forgive me if this has been said... I believe I saw a question akin to mine, but I did not quite understand the answer. :sweat I also hope it isn't a stupid question!

Is the Cocktail Party on Friday only for the first 250 people to register, or the first 250 people to arrive? Because, I did pre-register for the whole weekend, and I don't know if I was part of the first 250, so I don't know if I should have just chosen Saturday & Sunday instead of the full weekend?

I'm sorry if that was confusing! >.< Thank you for any and all help!

    34. First 250 to preregister. :>

    35. I don't think you need to worry everyone got into the cocktail party last year that pre-regged... but even if you didn't... there are plenty of things going on and people to talk to and play dolls with ... you won't be bored or lonely :)

    36. To fully take advantage of the photo opportunities for:

      Friday's Opening Ceremonies Cocktail Party
      and
      Sunday's Wedding and Commitment Ceremony

Do bring a doll stand or two for your resin kidz. It could be crowded and seating is limited.;)

    37. No need to worry. Everyone who preregged for the full weekend can come to the cocktail party and we still have a little bit of room left so that if you didn't prereg, there's at-the-door registrations for $90 for the full weekend.

    38. Oh, thank you very much! That helps out a lot. :D I'm really excited! I'm just can't wait!

And thank you to everyone who answered me! You're so helpful. ^-^

    39. We at Studio KNH are very excited, too! Everyone's been working to create some fun stuff specifically for this convention. I don't want to spoil para-chan and mizunoseiryuu's surprises (I love living with other artists/dollists), but I'll happily tell you that I've got a lot of fun puki-stuff for this con, as well as my usual basics (and the cute bunny and kitty hats some of you might have seen at fanime).

Of course, my biggest dilemma at this point (restocking issues aside) is figuring out what I'M wearing for this weekend :doh

    40. I got there at 5pm. I wandered all throughout the main floor, discovered the lower level, then asked some of the bellhops who looked at each other confused X3
Most of the bus lines that run along Van Ness should work, as long as they're going North! If you're ever confused, just ask the bus driver if the bus will go to Van Ness and Pine :)

    41. I'm going a different way for the wedding ceremonies - I'm bringing an officiant to perform the weddings. (My moon goddess Selene - Soom Vesuvia). Hope that's okay with everyone! She really wants to help oversee the proceedings.

    42. Ooh! That's just the coolest having a beautiful Vesuvia there overseeing the ceremonies! I've wanted to see one in person so this will be neat. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

    43. I, for one, am very excited to see her!;) Also, it will be great to have some pagan weddings!:)

    44. I have a shopping question!! Do you think most sellers will be set up to take paypal, or should I plan on cash only?

*EDIT* oops, I see this has been addressed on the bottom of page 19
      should have read further back:doh

    45. Getting really excited about the convention!

I hope to see some of you at the Spa night I'll be hosting on Saturday night! There will be BJD trivia with prizes so make sure to brush up on your BJD history ;) Please feel free to bring some of your own restringing tools if you have them and would like to work on restringing, we have a lot of hemostats but limited number of some of the other restringing tools.

    46. Allison, sigh up for Paypal by phone. It's easy and it won't shut down anyone's account fro using an unknown Ip addy.

    47. That wasn't the problem... (I graduated from SFSU so I know my way around town) I decided to walk from Geary to Pine. Directions say "four blocks" and they mean about 9. I passed like 3 Starbucks on the way.

So to fellow travelers who take BART and MUNI... Pine is at the very top of the hill, almost cresting to the other side. Don't despair when you pass a bunch of side streets. Or just take the 47 to get to the top of the hill.

    48. Waves to fellow SFSU alumnus!:)

Actually it's four major intersections -- Post, Sutter, Bush and Pine -- but there are small alleys in between. It's really not that steep of a hill compared to others in the city, but I guess as a San Franciscan, I'm just used to walking.:sweat

    49. I'm getting really excited! :celebrate I'm planning on making a couple extra garter belts and bouquets for the brides to be. Plus; I'm working on having some cute MSD loli dress sets, and hopefully a couple big boy shirts, yo-sized loli sets too. I can sleep after next weekend right? :sweat

    50. Reading all the wonderful clothing and accessories being prepared for GoGaDoll is scaring me! I had to refill my checkbook and zero out my credit cards! ;)
I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones!

      *nervous anticipation*

    51. wow, only couple days till Gogadoll. I'm so excited!!! :D
This year I got a bigger booth and more partner to take care booth. Hopefully I will have time to walk around this time, since last year mostly I stay in my booth :...(
Hope to see all of you soon~

    52. OK, so it's getting close enough that I'm starting to really think about packing, LOL!

I wanna know, how many outfits are people bringing for their kids?!
I wont be in the contest this year, but I am wondering if people pack a full wardrobe, or just a couple outfits.

OR, do you just bring them naked for an excuse to buy them clothes, LOL!

    53. Hi,

Since I have my own booth for selling clothes for boys and girls, I only pack one extra outfit for each of my model just in case the dress sold out so he/she don't have to be nude
Otherwise, if you going to be there for 2 day, I suggest bring 2 outfit, one for each day. So if you didn't purchase any new dress, you don't have to worry about your kid don't have any thing to dress up~

    54. I have a general question .. not sure if its relevant so feel free to delete it .. :sweat

I was just wondering, if anyone can suggest any good fabric stores in San Francisco, especially some place that might carry a good selection of fun fur?

I can't wait to see everyone again at Gogadoll! :D

    55. Oh, there are two really good fabric stores that are easy to get to from the con. For fun fur, I would highly recommend Fabric Outlet on Mission. You'd just take the 49 VanNess bus that stops right across the street from the hotel to 18th & Mission, then walk back half a block to the store. Then Britex is downtown -- just take a bus on Post St. to Union Square and it's a block away on Geary. While it doesn't have as much fun fur, it does have some nice stuff on the 4th floor and has a lot of other unique and fine fabric and great trim and buttons.

    56. Thanks so much Kellyhime! :D I am totally going to check those out!

    57. Discount Fabrics on Haight Street! Many funky cheap choices. Is on #71 bus line. Also, it's close to Mendel's craft store which has /everything/.

    58. Discount Fabrics closed.:...(

    59. :...(!!!
(Go to Mendel's anyway, assuming the recession hasn't eaten that too...)

    60. Really? I haven't been for years... but I remember it being wall to wall odd fabrics.

But I agree... Britex is what everyone knows about (although I haven't been there yet :( )

I just bought a DZ Mo at JSpot. If he arrives by Friday I'll give him a faceup, make him some clothes and bring him. Otherwise it will just be my other two boys... BBB Long, Howell and BBB Weylin, Julian. They need some out and about time before Yaoicon (plus I need to buy them shoes!).
