GoGaDoll 2009 Discussion Thread

Dec 3, 2008

    1. Actually BART (the intercity train system) and a bus trip would be only about $7 or BART and a cab would be about $12. I've got more details on our website: http://gogadoll.com/directions.php

    2. LOL I'm old and carrying il Divo Dennis who is heavy. I'm not going to quibble over a 20US cab ride ;) It's worth it not to wrangle doll carrier and suitcase.

    3. OK, I am slow this year (since originally I was going to go to DPNY only) but i got hotel done, air ticket done and now I have registered

Now, just need to figure out who will come with me.... who will come with me

    4. Well, a cab will probably be more like $40 but it's well worth it! I have had way too many awful experiences with shuttles from SFO adding another two to four hours of business trip time, so I don't bother with that nonsense anymore. :doh

    5. No way! Super Shuttle is $17 from SFO!

Door-to-door shuttles are really the best bang for your buck. Half the price of cabs; half the hassle of trains & buses. They take you right to the hotel entrance. It is a beautiful thing.

At SFO Airport, go one level up from the baggage-claim. Look for signs that say "Door to Door Vans". Go outside. On the concrete islands in the middle of the streets, there are many stops for shuttles and vans and limos. Follow the arrows that say Super Shuttle, Quake City Shuttle, Lorrie's, American Airporter, etc. Several choices. Chances are, there'll be a gung-ho dispatcher person eager to get in your face & help you-- just say you need a van going to downtown San Francisco, Holiday Inn on Van Ness. Et voila.

(I don't drive, and I sometimes travel with doll-bags crammed full of heavy dolls, & I <3 Super Shuttle in a big way. Just last weekend, they schlepped me back from SFO & dropped me at my house with an SD16, an Iplehouse 63cm, an SDCute, and a pound of prickly-pear-cactus candy all in my bag. True story!!)

    6. Eee! :D I've just registered. I cannot wait - this will be the biggest dolly event I've been to. I cannot wait to meet you all! :aheartbea

What a wonderful way to celebrate my graduation. ^^ I'm so excited.

    7. Here is updated information (06/10) on the Peakswoods/Dollheart Vampire Bride White and Vampire Bride Black sets -

Sets will come with doll and full outfit.
Sets are limited to 40 pieces of each color.
These will be for sale only at two venues and on the Peakswood website - GoGaDoll in June, and Dollism (Hong Kong) and the website in July.
These will NOT be sold out entirely at GoGaDoll as they will keep an amount of each color for sale at Dollism and their website.
Peakswoods will be taking orders at GoGaDoll. Delivery is slated for July(time could change).
Price for each set will be discounted!

AND at GoGaDoll, Peakswoods is planning NOT to charge extra for postage!

      Alex

    8. Thank you nathankatt for the update! Wow, I hope that is enough dolls to meet demand. And that is really nice of Peakswoods to not charge extra for the shipping. Do we have any idea on how they plan to handle the sales of the dolls? I sure hope that I am lucky enough to get one!:D

    9. If it was just me, I would probably still chance the shuttle, but since there will be three in my party, do you think that taking a cab would be the best way to go? And then wouldn't the cab actually end up being cheaper per person than the shuttle?

    10. I think that BART to Montgomery St. station and a cab from there would be almost as comfortable, cheaper (a little over $20 total for three people) and faster, since BART doesn't have to deal with traffic.

    11. Hmm yes. Does BART have luggage restrictions?

    12. So there is no way to get the outfit separately? :...(

    13. RE: No, they don't have luggage restrictions. They only have bike restrictions. You're not allowed to bring a bike into the very first car of the BART trains. I've traveled to SFO and OAK airports on BART for the past 7 years, and I've never had anyone on BART say anything about it. :)

    14. St james : except if you find a person who just want the doll ... unfortunnally guess you want the black red one right ? (i will have the other , the white one)

    15. Wow, I am even more excited about the dolls now. I hope they don't sell out before I can get mine!!! Yay for Gogadoll and Peakswoods/Dollheart!

    16. This is my lament as well.

    20. Very special Bermann set, soon to be for sale on Ebay! To benefit GoGaDoll!

The uber-talented Anu of Tensiya.com (and a newer site yet to be named) has come through for us again!!! She has prepared and donated to GoGaDoll a very special SA Bermann Shinshengumi full set NUMBER ONE (of 33) with 2 additional outfits!!! Yes, this one is registered as #1 and I suspect may have been her own personal SA Bermann! She has created an additional blue robe set with sandals, as well as a wonderful black striped formal wedding suit with tails and an addtional pair of shoes! She added this wonderful suit in keeping with GoGaDoll's wedding theme and this is a one of a kind set! Anu insisted on us keeping all of the clothing sets together for this presentation!

    23. *gaspy gasp!* Oh Mr Bermann!! Isn't he the most exquisite thing!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he were from her personal collection. Anu is so amazing. The love she puts into each set...

He's all dressed for his wedding too. So who will be his lucky bride or groom?

(AiL & Bluefairy too, no less? *_* Our cup runneth over.)

    24. Oh wow.

Are the Blue Fairy dolls for sale or as prizes? Raffle? I used to own a Pocket Fairy once, she was the cutest lil thing...

    25. I love the Bermann! How generous of Anu :aheartbea

    26. That is quite exciting. I just love AiL. I did a group order through them and they were such a fabulous company. I cannot wait to see what they bring to the Goga!!!

    27. I couldnt find the parking rates for the Convention? I remember that I parked at the hotel last year and that we got a discounted price if we attended the con, but I dont remember the prices... If anyone knows please let me know.

    28. GAH! this and AiL????????? I am in HEAVEN! I really can't wait! how exciting for so many great companies contributing!

    29. *drools* The number one Bermann is AMAZING. Good luck to all the lucky people who are attending this year. Hopefully the economy will pick up and I can go 'next year'.

      Best wishes . . . KK

    30. I'm also wondering about parking. I'm only coming down for Saturday and wondering if parking in the hotel parking lot will be reasonable or if I need to look for another parking garage. It seems like last year when I stayed at the host hotel parking was about $30 a day. Generally guests get a break, so i assume if I'm not a guest the parking would be higher. Does anyone know about parking there for non-guests?

    31. Holy moley, that Bermann...!

      **is slain**

    32. HOLY HOLY

That Bermann, my dream doll OMG

Make a mental note to sell all dolls LOL LOL

    33. Yet another generous donation has come in, these from
      Mint On Card, Inc. -

      several Asleep Eidolon bjds!!!!

      Alex

    34. Woo hoo! This is really looking like an amazing convention! I am so excited!

    35. WOW! GoGaDoll is certainly coming together nicely this year! I can't wait!
(ok, actually I can. I still have to make a bunch of stock for my AA table and try to remember to take something for the photo comeptition! Oh well, at least I got my seller's permit in time!)

    36. Just a quick reminder to everyone that today is the last day not only to preregister for the convention, but also to take advantage of the con hotel rate.

Plus, I wanted to give a big thank-you to everyone who registered and reserved already, because we just managed to fulfill our contracted room night requirements for the hotel. Thank you so much!:D

    37. Last year we got a discount for parking because of the Goga( Dollectable) even if we were not registered hotel guests. They gave us a stamp at the door.
I believe it was about half price I think I paid between $12-$15 for one day.
I dont know if they will do the same thing this year but I imagine the hotel will since it is an event being held at their hotel.

    38. Oh I hope so for the parking, because San Fran parking is EXPENSIVE.

    39. When I registered hotel room a while back they quoted $36 a day for hotel lot parking.

    40. Sorry that I didn't follow up with them sooner, but I just got this from the hotel about parking:

Our regular overnight parking rate for hotel guests is $36.00 plus tax and daytime event attendee is $20.00 per day. However, base on the contract, we are offering a special parking rates as $32.00 plus tax for overnight and $14.00 for daytime attendees per day.

Our parking system has changed and we now have the automated parking system. Instead of giving you the parking stickers, we will provide an encoder near the registration area. This encoder will be programmed for the day time parking rate and attendees just need to validate their tickets from it. Once they have the validation, we have two automated pay stations in the lobby by the front desk area. Please note that once they pay at the stations, they only have 30 minutes to exit the garage.

Just getting a validation from the encoder, they can get the validation anytime. Until they pay at the stations, they do not have that 30 minutes time limit. It is actually good idea to encourage the participants to get that validation as early as possible, so they can avoid the traffic getting that validation at last minutes.

For over night parking, they need to inform that at the front desk upon check in. They will provide a separate card key for the garage and the daily rate will be charged to each guest room accordingly.

    41. ... As anybody who's tried to park in San Francisco for longer than 2 hours knows, $14 is a bargain. :sweat

    42. $14 is a major bargain. Parking in the City is no fun and the nice thing is the hotel parking is right there. I parked there last year and it was perfect!!

    43. Yes $14 is a super bargain. I parked in LA this week, for 2 hours it was $39.00 :sweat:sweat

    44. Last time I went to downtown SF we paid $20 to park and were only there like 4 hours :|

However, I will say that street parking is free after 6pm (I believe) and also free on Sunday so if you can find parking you can save a bit this way. I wouldn't recommend parking your car on the street overnight though, although if it's in a very visible location it might be ok.

    45. I can't wait; only one more week! I'm gonna be there for Saturday only and try to pay my girlfriend's ticket too XD She's not into dolls but I'd sure love some company!

    46. Shes not into dolls YET! LOL I cannot wait for the Cocktail party. I missed it last year. I only got to go one day last time. Im in for all three now. Wallet watchout!

    47. Oh yeah, I forgot to ask if there was any way to find out if I can go to the cocktail party, since I got my badge by way of booking an AA table and not through preregistration.

    48. All of the vendor badge holders automatically have invites to the cocktail party. :chocoberry

    49. Perfect! Thanks for the information!

    50. He's such a handsome man! :D

    51. Just a thought to add to your comfort--San Francisco is known for its unpredictable weather--do bring a pair of long pants and a sweater or jacket. Around here, when we say warm, it's only in the mid 70's which some out-of-staters scoff at. And don't forget, when our famous fog rolls in, it will drop to the cool and windy 60's. :o Layer your clothes!

    52. RE: I couldn't have put it better myself. :) I've had lots of friends who came from cities and states known for their hot climates, who would vacation here in SF, only to go back home with colds or other viral infections because they didn't bring enough warm clothing. :(

    53. Yes, do bring a coat! Last year I brought all tank tops/t-shirts and not even a sweatshirt and I thought I was going to die. Even a zip up hoodie or something is highly useful.

    54. LOL I guess it pays to always be cold. I'd planned on some fleece.

    55. Ah, yes, San Fran weather - of course it was all comfy inside the hotel last year but the minute you stepped out the front door for java or lunch or dinner - the wind hit you and it was FREEZING cold. I'm not joking - freezing cold. Be prepared for anything in SF!

    56. This year I'm bringing all hoodies and jeans. Watch it be super sunny and warm, just for spite! ;)

    57. Brennil: heh heh! At least you can remove clothes and it rarely, rarely gets so hot in San Francisco that one wishes one could be a nudist--
compared to Houston TX, 107'F at 95% humidity--yes--I was once there for a month(!) in that kind of weather. :P

Zagzagael: Yes, it can get cold when the sun goes down. I didn't want to scare anyone away... ;)

    58. Also, the Holiday Inn happens to be on one of the windiest corners of all Van Ness Avenue. Luckily, almost any touristy stretch of street will have several sellers of cheap fleeces & hoodies with that funny little "SF" logo on it (it's styled like the "CK" letters). :whee: So if you do forget to bring the right layers, & it turns out to be foggy and cold, don't worry-- the street vendors have already anticipated you.

(Bring your hoodies, but also do bring some t-shirts, because if the sun does come out, it suddenly warms up into summer again.)

Oh, Mr. Bermann!... *_* I can't get over this guy! What a knockout!

    59. Every time I see Mr. Bermann's photo it's like a punch to the gut. He's so pretty! :XD:
