GoGaDoll 2009 Discussion Thread

Dec 3, 2008

    1. Has anyone else emailed previous vendors to try and get them on board. I emailed Denver doll since I had planned to spend a large amount of money with them. I am disappointed that such large companies are not going to be there. But that being said I am just happy there will still be a Goga despite the economy.
I will also email Junky Spot and Jpop as well. I dont want to be a downer about it, but you never know they may change their minds if enough people email plus that would fill those empty spots for the Goga.
      Win-Win. :)

    2. While Dollovely is primarily a cash only business at conventions...
I do accept Paypal by phone.

Its easy to use and you can sign up for it by logging onto your paypal account and following the directions there.
Once you are signed in, you can find the link under tools in the left hand column.
It takes less than three minutes to sign up.

I highly recommend this payment type to both venders and buyers....you both have to be signed up for it to work.
The times I have used it have been very easy.

    3. Tsukidoll: Wonderful idea!
While GoGaDoll staff have been working tirelessly contacting as many vendors as possible, the most valuable input to BJD vendors come from YOU, the customer. Many thanks for taking the time contacting your favorite vendors about attending GoGaDoll!

To everyone wanting to make this year's convention even more exciting, call or email vendors you'd like to see, telling them that you want their company/business represented at the convention. There's nothing better than meeting its customers to build relationships which in turn, is good for business!

    4. Out of curiosity I emailed Denver Doll. I got a quick response back saying that unfortunately they had conflicting engagements. I was not able to go to Dollectable last year; I was looking forward to seeing Denver Doll this year since I have shopped with them before. Oh well, it just means new shops to discover!
      :)

    5. Thanks so much! I'll try to remember to enter this year! Last year, it completely slipped my mind. :doh

    6. Here is a message I received from Denver doll regarding the Goga.

Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, it costs a fortune for us to travel to the shows, ship merchandise, pay hotel storage fees etc. Also, we have to leave the shop shorthanded when a couple of us leave. With the economy the way it is we have to really budget what we spend money on. We most likely won't be attending any shows this year. If something changes Goga is definitely at the top of our list. Thanks!
      Shannon
I am still looking forward to the Goga no matter what. Just thought it was a nice email.

    7. Tsukidoll - Thank you for contacting the Denver Doll Emporium! I also contacted them for an item donation, and they agreed to send something for GoGaDoll's door prize giveaway! Even though they're pretty sure they cannot attend this year, they have been AGAIN generous in donating an item for us to give away to a lucky attendee!

    8. A somewhat random question that I hope is alright to ask, but does anyone know if any of the booths will be selling restringing kits such as last year? I was an idiot and decided not to purchase one and have been regretting that decision since.

    9. Actually, I still have one or two restringing kits left from last year. I can bring one to the con for you if you'd like. :)

    10. Oh! That would be wonderful, thank you :) After my last restringing fiasco I realized I just couldn't avoid the need for one any longer-are they still priced at $12?

    11. I'm not sure about the selling of the kits but at the BJD Spa on Saturday night we will have tools to use for the evening for re-stringing :)

    12. Thank you so much Kelly! although I do not feel I deserve such an Honor I am very flattered and honored to be asked ^_^ thanks so much!

    13. wow! this sounds like it will be a great con. I wish I could attend but unfortunately there's no way I'd make it this year (too much going on already). I'm definitely on board for next year though. :)

    14. I'm still talking to some people, seeing if I can get some money for this convention. I really want to go to expand my knowledge and maybe buy my first doll. We will see!!!!

    15. I am very excited about going. I cannot think of a better reason to visit the West Coast for the first time to see dolls. It is a long flight, so unfortunately my Grandma can't join me.

I posted in the boarding/carpool thread about finding a roommate. My chances are slim, but I thought I would give it a shot.

Thank you guys for organizing this nice con.

      ~Gus

    16. Sorry, if it's okay, I have a quick question? I sent my information/payment in about a week ago, and I'm kind of worried because I made a mistake while sending payment (never fill forms out after just waking up... haha...) and didn't include my registration information with it. I sent an e-mail immediately after with the information and Paypal Transaction ID#. So far I haven't heard anything back from the GoGaDoll staff yet.

I just want to check if everything went through okay. I feel like an idiot for my mistake. ;__; Sorry about the trouble!

    17. Strow, try PMing green_judy here on DoA. She's running registration for the convention, and she'll be able to check and see if she's missing information from you.

    18. Hey Strow! Send me a PM and include the email address you used to register - we'll get you sorted out quickly.

      :D

    19. Speaking of registration worries, Kiyakotari, I sent you an email about purchasing an Artist Alley table about three days ago and I haven't gotten a reply. I'm just worried that the email never made it to you or something crazy like that.

    20. Thank you so much, Kiyakotori and green_judy! Just sent you a PM.

    21. Hey, will be good to see yet another new guy face at GoGaDoll! We need more male collectors in the public collecting eye, LOL . (Ok, don't pelt me with stones!) Do you know Mclamm also from D.C.?
      Alex

    22. The pledges and donations are beginning to come in to GoGaDoll from our Guests of Honor, Special Guests, Vendors, and generous Supporters and Doll Artists!

From our first Guest of Honor,
Charles Stephan of Charles' Creature Cabinet
will come two wonderful bjds that we plan to give away at our cocktail party and as a charity raffle item! Here in Charles' own words is a description of his dolls -

      · First is Boneka Kayu, the little ‘wooden piggy doll’ of Yoshi – micro size 5 cm, resin + faceup and accessories (twig antler + flower antler)

      · Second is Deer Faith, The Woodlings Kantjil – tiny size 11 cm anthro BJD + resin + faceup and accessories (Deer antler and leaves wings)

And check out their custom wooden box presentation!

More great bjd items are being received and pledged every day!
Attendees will be in for some nice surprises this year at GoGaDoll!
      Come and join the fun!
      Alex

    23. I was curious about the cocktail party and opening events; is it for the first 250 pre-registered attendees that arrive at the door or the first 250 pre-registered people? ^^; I know it sounds silly but I'm confused about it...;3;

    24. Hi Neo-ragdolls -
The cocktail party will be an event that is first registered, first served, so it is advisable to pre-pay a full registration to insure your seat at the cocktail party. Entrance for this event can be purchased for at the door, but since we will have space limitations, we cannot guarantee that you will be admitted to the event if paying in person at the night of the party. However, watch this thread and GoGaDoll's web page for updates on seating capacity and availability to the Cocktail Party!
      Alex

    25. I pre-registered online but I forgot to put in my registration info(my son was distracting me) ;3; ...who should I e-mail?

    26. Hi there, I'm the Registrar. Just PM me with your details. Thanks!
      :)

    27. I sent you one ^^ thank you soooo much ^^;

    28. I never asked this question because it never even occurred to me until I attended Sakura Con about a month ago. Have you guys thought about selling GoGaDoll T-Shirts, pens, mugs, or any kind of novelty from the con? I think it would be really cool to own a T-Shirt from GoGaDoll, or some kind of memorabilia. Just a thought. :)

    29. PM'd you on this Crpsaiyan!
      Alex

    30. ^__^ It will be great to see you here ^_^ Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the area ;) I'm sorry to hear that your grandma can't join, but hopefully you can take tons of beautiful photos for her ^_^ :aheartbea ~Aqua

    31. Gus251: Thank you for making the cross-country flight to join us during GoGaDoll! The staff is working hard and hope to make your visit to the West Coast a happy and fulfilling experience. If you need help or information, the GoGaDoll staff will be glad to help.

    32. This is an awesome idea I would love to have a doll sized convention T-shirt XD and maybe doll sized badges too. :D

And I had a quick question about donating an outfit. I want to make two wedding outfit sets. Could I have my girl & boy model them at the cocktail party (see if they're good enough to be a donation item) and be able to donate them saturday morning? They'll be in nice boxes with tissue paper and a picture on the top of the box.

    33. I'll be there :) It's going to be a long flight all the way from Manitoba, Canada! ^___^ I can hardly wait!

    34. Hey Neo-ragdolls - Sure, you can model them at the cocktail party first, if you want to show them off to the public! We'll be glad to take your donation on Saturday - please drop by the Display Room with your items! THANKS!!! :D
Oh, and don't forget, we will have a Wedding and Committment Ceremony on Sunday!
More details to come on this thread, and the website, soon!
      Alex

    35. How exciting for you!!! Will this be your first trip to San Francisco? Your first BJD event?
      Alex

    36. Just a reminder that to take advantage of the excellent $149 a night room rate at the convention hotel, Holiday Inn Golden Gateway, you need to reserve by May 28th. Reserving at the hotel not only saves you a lot of money and puts you in the center of all the BJD action, it also helps the convention. We are contracted to fill 160 rooms, but are only at 100 now. If we don't fill those other 60 rooms, we have to pay for the empty ones.:o Only 30 of you have to book rooms for two nights of the convention to help us out, so please consider booking soon! Keep in mind that attendees staying in the hotel get to enter the Vendors Hall an hour early at 9am on Saturday just by showing their hotel card key, so by staying at the hotel, you also get first chance at all the great stuff the vendors will have!:)

To make your reservation, you can go here to book your hotel reservations online or call 415-441-4000 or 866-272-7098 and refer to group rate code SDL. The rates cover June 16-23, 2009, which is good for those of you who want to have a few extra days to visit the city.

    37. Yes! Go sign up for hotel rooms, everyone! $149 for a San Francisco downtown hotel in peak season is an awesome price. This isn't a cheap city to stay in, especially in June, so save some bucks where you can.

In addition to all the hotel-guest perks that Kelly just mentioned above, having a room in the convention hotel is also THE best thing for shopping. Run down to the Dealers' Room at 9, fill up your arms with goodies, run back upstairs, dump off the loot, & charge back downstairs for more goodies. Repeat until 11:30, then run back up to room for power nap before lunch. ^^

Kelly, does the Holiday Inn validate parking for room guests? If so, then that's also a big plus; SF parking prices can be pretty cutthroat, too.

    38. Indeed, they do and it's a big savings over the regular rates! I'll check with them about what it is and post the prices.

    39. W00t!
No kidding, SF parking-garage prices are mean. And the street-meters only give you a few minutes per quarter, presuming you can find a space on the weekend. And if you have a vehicle, you will need to put it somewhere...

    40. Staying at the convention hotel is important if no other reason then you don't want to have to carry your precious BJDs down the streets of San Fran. Keep them out of the sunlight, keep their outfits neat and clean, and after the first few hours the hotel staff will have gotten over their looks of 'what the heck are they carrying around'. I just also find that BJD have heavy resin butts and when your arms get tired it's nice to drop them back off in your room or switch out your heavy 70cm doll for a lighter MSD or tiny. And if you share your hotel room, the rate is an even bigger deal. I have my room booked and sharing with the same people as last year, which worked out great for us.

      -Anneke

    41. Plus it's just a tram ride away from Chinatown! And a fairly cheap taxi ride to the Pier, in case you wanted to spend some time doing the tourist thing.

    42. It's an even cheaper -- $1.50 -- bus ride to Ghirardelli Square and you can walk to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 from there. I'll have a map in the program and we'll have an info desk (wo)maned by locals who can help attendees with all their travel questions.:)

    43. Even if you don't do the full tourist thing, just TRY to resist the allure of Japantown's shopping. (Big-ass Kinokuniya Books outlet, anyone? :drool) Japantown too is close by: a short bus-ride or a healthy walk. We'll have some walking-maps handy, as Kelly says, so you can all check it out. The hotel has an awesome concierge that's well accustomed to giving tourist directions, too.

Vampireanneke brings up a good point-- room sharing. Is there a GoGaDoll "Roommates-and-Rides Finder" thread anywhere on DOA? I know at least one volunteer has asked me if I could connect them with someone seeking a roommate. That's a bit out of my jurisdiction, but I know many of you could connect with each other on a finder-thread. Sharing rides & rooms are both good ways to economize.

    44. ^ Everybody who's looking for rooms/rides-- go click there! ^
And spread the word some more!
      That's great. Thanks neo-ragdolls. :)

    45. Not only is the Golden Gateway Holiday Inn right in the middle of the GoGaDoll excitement, the hotel itself is situated only short walks to the Cable Car and several bus lines which will take you to the many San Francisco attractions: Civic Center which includes the Asian Art museum, Davis Symphony Hall, the Main Library. The bus lines can take you to Japantown, Golden Gate Park which includes the $25 million revamped Steinhart Aquarium and the Arboretum. Other bus rides can take you to Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square/Aquatic Park, and North Beach Districts. And the bus fare is only $1.50 with a 2 hour transfer privilege. One can go in all directions--there is something to see, and multi-national foods to try!

May 28th is the deadline to book at the Golden Gateway to get the reduced room rate!

    46. Peak's Woods would like to know which dolls attendees would like to see in person. Separate discussion thread [thread=295912]here[/thread]! :)

    47. Hey everyone! All you seamstresses (and tailors), customizers, accessory-makers, jewelers, and other folks who've been considering participating in the Exhibition Hall at GoGaDoll '09, time is running out to reserve a booth! We only have a few vendor tables left, and while we want to make sure everyone who wants to sell at the convention has a chance to participate in the hall, once they're gone there's nothing we can do. If you've been trying to decide about getting a booth, or if you have any questions, you can drop me a PM here on the forums or eMail me at [email protected] and I can get you set up!

And remember, if you want to get a booth, contact me before you purchase it to make sure the one you want is still available! The webpage isn't always fully up-to-date at any given time (we do our best, but all of us staff have busy lives, and only a couple of us are able to work on the website), and booths that show as available may have already been taken, so check with me first to make sure the booth you want is open and to reserve it ahead of time.

Are generously contributing wonderful donations to the GoGaDoll Convention!

You'll have to attend the convention to learn what they are!

Book Your Discounted Hotel Rates by May 28th!

    49. Super excited, just confirmed with my aunt that I'll be able to attend GoGadoll with her on Saturday! :D

But I wanted to double check, if the raffles are being held on Sunday like last year, are you required to be present if you happen to win something? Also, you can donate to the chosen charities on Saturday as well as Sunday, correct?

    50. InkyBear: Wonderful! Looking forward to your participation at the convention. I'm going to double check before replying to your questions. Thanks again!

    51. There will be more than one category of prizes, just like last year.
For the paid raffle tickets, to be sold on Saturday and Sunday, no, you do not have to be present to win the prizes at the Sunday draw. We will do our best to contact you and mail you the items but you will have to be responsible for the postage. So, please, when registering, make sure you fill out the personal information completely - not only will it make finding you easier if you win a prize in absentia, but it will make our registrar happier too!
For the free door prizes - We will also be drawing names during the Saturday and Sunday display room operating hours for free door prizes, and those will have to be picked up by Sunday at 4pm or new names will be drawn at the closing ceremonies. There will be a list of winners at the display room so keep checking back over the weekend hours. There also may be extra door prizes given away at certain events, and winners will have to be present at the event to pick up those prizes.

Good question about choosing the charity - if I understand your question, no you do not donate directly to one charity over another, our proceeds will be split among the entities equally. If your asking about the purchase timing of the charity raffle tickets, yes, you can buy the tickets either on Saturday or Sunday as mentioned above, during the display room hours.
Alex who is at Eyedollatry's house !

    52. One of GoGaDoll's Guests Of Honor, DOA's own SDink, has worked her magic on a Yujin head donated by another member, Anavel!

      [IMG] [IMG]

This beautiful faceup and head is yet another great donation to GoGaDoll! We're planning to give this away as a contest prize! So sign up and prepare your entries for one of 3 fun competitions!

      Alex

    53. :ablink:...! ... :nosebleed..... :drool...

      Wow!

    54. Okay, maybe I do need to pull something together for a contest! :o

    55. WHOA. I've never been particularly captured by any of the So-Nyeon-Gi head releases, but that Yujin is just gorgeous! Another amazing job by SDink. I'm truly stunned.

    56. ... Which leads me neatly into a segue about volunteering. We still have room on the roster for more volunteer workers! If you volunteer to work for 3 hours, we refund half your preregistration fee. For 6 hours's work, we refund the whole thing. Thus leaving you more pennies to spend on fabulous costume-entry costumes, & photo/video contest entries, & raffle tickets, & so forth, so you can win things like that spectacularly gorgeous Dreamy-Queen Yujin. :aheartbea (There, I knew I'd think up a suitably far-fetched segue somehow.)

If you're interested in helping out-- even if you can't commit to 3 or 6 hours-- click the link in my signature! The Volunteers Call is open for as long as pre-registration is open. And pre-registration is closing soon (May 31), so come on & sign up. We'd love to have you. :thumbup

    57. Oh dear, now I definitely have to enter the photo contest!

Also, I have a kind of a strange question, but at the past two Dollectable/GoGaDoll conventions, there has been someone in the dealer's hall selling gorgeous hakama and kimono sets, but I've never managed to catch the dealer's name/company name. Does anyone remember what it was? I have a hakama set by them and everyone keeps asking where it's from, and I feel terrible for not being able to provide an answer.*_*

    58. The person who sold those Kimono and Hakama sells them on ebay also under the store name Oriental Boutique I saved the receipt they gave me and this was the name on it.
