GoGaDoll 2009 Discussion Thread

Dec 3, 2008

    1. Vender info yet? I need to make plans for the summer...I have dance competitions as well that all need scheduling.

    2. We're just finishing the proofreading of the vendor package and should have it up this weekend. The pricing, layout and schedule are going to be the same as last year though, if that helps with your planning.:)

    3. Hello duckies,

I am heading up registration for GoGaDoll this year, and I'm posting here a gentle reminder to please include all your registration information when you submit payment. This includes some crucial stuff, like the name you would like on your badge (Hey! I think it's very crucial!), whether you are over or under 18, and whether you would like to volunteer this year.

Here's a link to our registration page, describing the process.

Thanks so much. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at GoGaDoll. :fangirl:

    4. Yes that's VERY important...i accidently forgot all about that and just sent in my payment :sweat. I got that fixed though haha. I'm excited!!! Can't wait to see what else will be going on!

    5. I'm going, I'm going, I'm going. And I am going to have a hotel room. Apple martinis!

    6. This seems like an awesome haiku.

    7. another week, another whiny request for vender info.

    8. I am new to the BJD world but I am totally hooked and would love to go to an event. This one sounds amazing but I live on the east coast and would not be able to make it. Are there any of these events on the east coast?

    9. My sister and I will be attending. Is there a costume (for attendees) contest? \

I am looking forward to all the fun we will have. Every moment is going to be a gem for me. But then, I am a spinning joy-affiliate and this event will be the highlight of my year.

Let's all get together, when possible, and celebrate the con!

    10. So glad that you two can make it! We are actually toying with the idea of having people dress up either in costume or at least more formally for the cocktail party on Friday, but aren't sure yet if there will be a human costume contest yet. However, there will definitely be a doll costume contest and we'll be announcing the theme very soon!:)

    11. Vendor Registration for GoGaDoll 2009 is now up and running! Many booths have already been claimed (more than are indicated on the map, as they're going so fast we're having trouble keeping up with updates), so please eMail me at [email protected] to confirm your chosen booth location before registering. Thanks, and I can't wait to see you all in person at the convention!!

    12. ACK!!!! Those dates don't work for me!!! I think I may cry!!!!

    13. It seems that I'll be there again. woohoo!

    14. So glad that you can make it!:)

    15. Awww. I would love to have been a vendor on the West Coast this year since the Austin con is not happening, but there are no booth spaces that will accomodate me now. I guess I wasn't fast enough this time. :doh

    16. C'mon GoGaDoll peeps!!! We can do SOMETHING to accomodate Brandon, can't we???
      Alex
who is the Donations Mgr for GoGadoll

    17. LOL Alex~ If there is any way I can do it, I certainly will. I would love to attend. :)

    18. Hi everyone! I am coming from all the way over here on the east coast! If all goes well I will be selling dolls I am in the process of making!!! :sweat So much to do! Hopefully I will have my prototype cast by the end of next month so I can start showing her off before the convention. I have a lot to do, but I am very excited ^_^. I look forward to meeting the other artists that are going too!

    19. I'm sending you a PM, Brandon.

    20. How exciting! Do you have photos of your works in progress? I would love to see them. I'll be there with my original head as well, and I'm a HUGE sucker for artist dolls in general.

    21. Looks like I'll be heading over there! It'll be my first time on the west coast, I never thought I'd be looking so forward to a 9-12 hour plane ride XD

    22. Yep, I want to see Brandon there too! I love his clothes!

    23. Any word on when we will get the 'theme' for the costume contest?

      -Anneke

    24. Funny that you should ask, because I was going to announce it today.:)

The theme for the Costume Contest, Cocktail Party and a special event on Sunday afternoon is...

      Weddings -- San Francisco Style

Did you know that Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were married at San Francisco's beautiful City Hall? Not to mention the other historic weddings that have happened in the city. San Francisco is a city of romance and since the convention is in June, what better time to celebrate marriage in the city of love. However, there's no reason to limit yourself to just the City by the Bay for ideas for the costume contest or even your own outfits for the cocktail party. Weddings can mean everything from the Bride of Frankenstein to Shotgun Wedding, so let your imagination run wild!:)

    25. Sounds great! And with San Fran being very 'gay friendly', I see the chance for couples to be male/male or female/female as well as the normal Male/Female. :) Oh Ideas are already rolling around in my head.

      -Anneke

    26. That's an interesting choice of theme, given how politically charged marriage is in SF these days. :)

    27. Weddings... ooo I'm not touching that with a 10ft pole.

It'll be interesting to see what pops up.

    28. Nope, our choice is simply because June is traditionally a wedding month and we thought that it would be a fun theme with lots of costuming and decorating potential. Politics and dolls do not mix. Our charities are most likely going to be one for the elderly and another for disadvantaged animals.:)

    29. For the photography contest should we maintain the wedding theme or is that mainly for the costume contest? ^_^ Thanks <3

    30. The theme is mainly for the costume contest, but if you do want to do it for the photography contest too that would be extra fun.:)

    31. Is there a particular theme in the artist's contest? Should they be related to bridal outfits, etc., or is there another theme. I'm talking about paintings, pastel, etc. I assume the art should be framed before it is entered in the contest. I hope you will have a site telling us the size limitations and media that should be used.

      Thanks!

    32. Um, well, there isn't an artist's contest. There are only three contest -- costume, photography and video. You can find the details of the contests here: http://gogadoll.com/events.php. It hasn't been added to the site yet, but only the costume contest will be wedding themed.

    33. Do you think people will be dressing up costume style/weddings for the cocktail party? I don't want to belabor the point, but it would be fun if more than just one person did it.

Will there be dressing up during other times at the convention?

I have a room, so I am interested in stuff going on Saturday night, too.

    34. You can always just wear a couple of pasties & pop out of a cake at the cocktail-party... bachelor parties count as part of the wedding theme.

    35. I am now contemplating getting a mini shotgun for my bjds and stage them in just such a wedding for the contest. :) with any luck I'll be making a trip to GoGaDoll 09.

    36. I won't be dressing up - I'm going to be lugging all my booth stuff in my suitcases, space will be at a premium!

    37. LOL I stopped dressing up for SF cons 15 years ago.

So no, if get there as I hope, I won't be dressing up either.

    38. Well, I think that it would be fun if people dress up too, but it's not a requirement. After all, it is a doll con, not an anime/cosplay con. However, I'll definitely be dressing up -- I'll be a "mother of the bride" at the Cocktail Party -- since I'm always happy to have an excuse to put on a costume.:)

The Swap Meet and BJD Spa will be on Saturday night. I should have a close to complete schedule to post by the end of the month. We've got a lot of fun things planned!

Leave it to you to think of that.

That's an excellent idea! I'm so glad that people are seeing all the possibilities for the theme.:cheer

    39. Ohh, all right then, I'll do it myself. What color garterbelt?

    40. Would that be for you or Laika?;)

    41. Is there a ride and room finder thread up yet?

    42. Watch out for all that frosting JennyN! :sweat
I can't even think that far ahead for a costume for myself! My boys and girls, yes, but not a human sized outfit - a druid justice of the peace??? Hmmm....
BTW, I thought of that shotgun scenario too....and about wearing my granny's gold-threaded phoenix qua, a chinese mother-in-law wedding coat, cept I don't think I can squeeze my shoulders into the jacket without pulling apart the seams - it was made especially for her and shes only 4'11"......
      Alex

    43. Check out the meetups section, I think Saru-X put up a ride and room finder thread for GoGaDoll there -
      Alex

    44. The thing about costumes and all is it would be fun to have your own (or my own) costume match with my doll. Now if I can only figure out how to get her fabulously svelte shape.

    45. I did that back at Dollectable 2007. Both Mini-Me Lady Saiyan and I were dressed alike. We even wore the same costume for the San Francisco Cosplay Parade last year:

    46. I think thats a great idea!
      Alex

    47. OMG you so just brought back so many memories

^____^ XDDD you are making me want to make matching outfits. . .^^;; sadly that would probably scare away all the attendees haha :sweat ~Aqua

    48. @crpsaiyan - That's so adorable! I remember you back in FAnime or so, you had matching outfits! I adore your matching outfits ideas. I wish I had sewing skills to do that myself. It'd be so much fun!

      @aquaspiral - Haha. XD I'm with you there. I don't know if I can fashion into my boys or my girls. XD;

    49. Thanks Aqua and TsukiHiroshi. :) I agree with Amaryllis here. I mean, I don't want to jump the gun for next year, because we haven't even attended GoGaDoll 2009 yet, and I'm going to apologize ahead of time for this, but I like her idea about having our costumes match our dolls, or vice versa. That would be really interesting for next year. :)

    50. Why wait for next year to put this idea into action?? ;)

      Alex

    51. RE: Oh? You sure it's okay, Alex? I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't butting heads with anyone in terms of next year. I mean, like I said, we haven't even attended this year's GoGaDoll yet. *shrugs*

    52. I always love it when people dress to match their dolls, so please do! I'm not sure if we can fit in an actual event for it this year, but I'll talk to Alex and the rest of the board about it to see if there's something we could do.:)

    53. Well, if theres a wedding or committment theme involved in the bjd and owner dress-alike, I don't see any potential conflict :chocoberry
Maybe they'll be a special prize for that :o.......no promises, but will talk it over with the board!
      Alex

    54. Convention tickets: Full weekend paid.
      Train tickets: Round trip paid.
Hotel: Room reserved and funds set aside for check-in.

From here out out, everything else is icing. So very excited! Now to coble together some fun clothes for the attending resin Horde...

    55. Aquakspiral, I am inspired by your doll and yourself. That was fabulous. While I am not sure I am excited about my own pic being on air, wouldn't that be a wonderful fashion lineup? A whole array of people and dolls in matching costumes? And if there were guys or f. impersonators in costume, it would be additionally charming.

    56. If there was a matching outfits contest I'm all set for it. Well once I finish up the Doll's outfit.

      -Anneke

    57. What's the parking situation for those of us driving? I'm not actually staying at the hotel (have relatives nearby like about an hour), so need to know where I can park. Lots to unload!

      Thanks!

      Jay

    58. The hotel has a parking garage, Jay. Not sure if you're a pro at Big City driving, but I really think the day rate would be well worth the saving of a street parking headache and hassle.

    59. Oh are you referring to CRPSaiyan's picture ^^;; Of her dressed up with her doll? She looks awesome huh ^__^ I am not sure if I could pull of my doll's styles haha, but we'll have to see. But the idea of people having matching costumes to their dolls sounds very very exciting :D
      ~Aqua

^^ yup yup! I remember at other cons you are totally set b/c you guys always have matching outfits ;) Lucky lucky  ^_^ XDDD you should dress up!! <3
      ~Aqua

    60. Zagzagael is right about the parking garage and we also will have vouchers to bring the cost down a bit.
