Aside from the obvious use of Lana Del Rey's song title , I had a question for you guys. Do any of you have dolls that are modded and/or sculpted to look like a God/Goddess or a Cryptid/Monster? If you don't but you are planning on getting/modding one, which one? Why? I have seen a few vampires, Frankensteins, and demons around, but not any other type of monsters/cryptids. The same with Gods/Goddesses, I have only seen an Egyptian themed God BJD around here and Satyrs. Honestly, I have been thinking it would be cool to see them. As for me, I think I would love eventually when I get more experience, modding a BJD to look like a Goatman, a Minotaur, my own version of Hades, or Anubis. The latter, I have seen, someone I follow on instagram posted a picture of their BJD Anubis, he had the normal BJD body, but he had Anubis' head.
I don't have any, but @Alois Trancy has many dolls/characters that portray gods and goddesses (a few demons too). I def recommend checking out her work. Maybe the Anubis you saw was hers?
I have Bast as a doll, and a version of the Greek War god Ares (though it is a version from an RP I was in and so trapped in in the body of a 13 year old boy.)
I have a Marvel Thor...so technically a Norse god. Oh, and his little brother Loki, of course. And a phoenix and an ice dragon.
[QUOTE="That's really cool too, I saw someone had an Inari Goddess who looks like a person too (except for the ears).[/QUOTE] I dunno, I feel like I’m kind of boring. But they can do some cool stuff even if they don’t look like it. (I messed up the quote, sorry)
I have no idea if he's going to be on topic or not, but someone on instagram has made a fantastic Horus bjd complete with armor and bird head (that I would be completely tempted by if he wasn't Idealian size): Yaoyao Dai on Instagram: “This is the full sky god state of Horus. This is the final update at this stage. I'm releasing him as promised. Horus Ver.God of the sky…” And maybe not technically gods, but Angell Studio has minis based on the Monkey King and the Tang Priest from Journey to the West: The Monkey King Tang Monk If you're looking for cryptids, Aimerai has a few (probably also off-topic) creatures based on the Jersey Devil, the Enfield Horror, the Yeti and the Michigan Dogman: SPECIAL & 1/12 DOLL : www.aimerai.com Island Doll has some tinies molded after Apollo and Artemis, and a whole range of Norse Myth-based dolls: 1/6 - Apollo and Artemis Doll - Norse Myth Loongsoul has some dolls based on Eastern Mythology and deities, including this guy who you might want to look into if you're interested in a Minotaur - Loongsoul Dolls_LOONG SOUL DOLL And Luts had Kid Delf fantasy limiteds based on Zeus, Hades and Posidon: https://eluts.com/product/kid-delf-bory-zeus-the-breath-of-god-limited/3563/category/64/display/1/ https://eluts.com/product/kid-delf-maska-hades-the-breath-of-god-limited/3575/category/64/display/1/ https://eluts.com/product/kid-delf-...th-of-god-limited/3570/category/64/display/1/ Also centaurs and satyrs and chimera and whatnot. ...I might be a teeny bit obsessed with mythology...
That's so cool, I have never seen Bast in doll form but I bet she looks spectacular . As for Ares, him being trapped in another body makes it for quite a story, therefore more interesting ^^. Not at all, if anything I think them looking like ordinary people makes their story interesting Oh my days!!~ This is so on topic and I love it so much. Sincerely, thank you so much for all the information and the links. I'm new to this hobby so I'm still a bit clueless about most stuff but I absolutely found this super interesting. I liked them all, but I specifically loved Horus (sadly, he's way out of my budget but I shall admire him from afar ), the cryptids which are simply adorable , and the dolls from loongsoul who are stunning. It's always nice to meet people who love mythology, and it is even more amazing to meet people who combine that love with dolls. Once, again, thank you, I appreciate it ^^.
Oh and I almost forgot I am debating make my Doll Zone Frimaire with his limited cat god head into a male version of my fave Goddess Sekhmet, that is once he gets here my plans are still in the air on him.
I got my SOOM Irbis to shell one of the "gods" in my main writing project, but technically the snow-leopard parts weren't necessary... (he's wearing them anyway). I really want a bright blue lady for one of my other deities. And Iplehouse has also been releasing some LE dolls based on Greek mythology lately, but they're mostly just conventional dolls with special outfits/armor/weapons. (Becky did have the most ridiculously cute medusa-head-snakes, though. Too bad there weren't more of them.) I had to have the Athena set. Apparently Hades is next.
5Star Doll has a praying mantis girl. Atelier Momoni has a lady with a cat-ish head called Kitty M. I think I saw a version of Medusa somewhere a while ago...
That reminds me, Angelheim did some mythology dolls as well, but they've been gone for some time. Someone else's photo here.
I've been thinking about modding a doll to look like Danu or The Morrigan. The Morrigan would likely be the more interesting and cryptid like of the 2 tbh. I've also been thinking of trying to find/make a Gorgon of some type too
Nice!~ I think it would be cool to see any of them, specially The Morrigan or Gorgon. When you finish modding one it would be cool to see *o*.
Definitely! I get so excited to see the different mythological/cryptic dolls! It may take me a while to work up the courage to really commit to a big mod like that but once I finish my first doll sculpt I definitely want to try to fully go for the gorgon
I feel you~ I get the same way too It's understandable but it will be super cool to see, especially for someone like me who has no artistic abilities haha. The gorgon will definitely not be easy but once completed it will probably be amazing.
Thank you @LilaAIP for mentioning me on this post! Also thank you @Haides for supporting my gallery! ^_^ As an addicted to mythology and folklore, I must say I have a hard time finding right sculpts for my Gods and Goddesses. I wish the stores would explore a bit more the fantasy world and the lores we can use. What I do mostly is use props and accessories to show the nature of my characters. I'll add here the most characteristic pictures of some of them! I hope it gives you some inspiration when you create your work! Magnus, the Roman God of War, Mars (BluOxyde - MNM Ezra Miller): Winter, The Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite (BlackCherry - Kaorin): Spoiler: image 2 Winter, Norse Goddess of Winter, Skadi (in my story the same character is a reincarnation of two Goddesses and I have many different sculpts for her T_T sorry for the mess) [Iplehouse - Soo]: Spoiler: image 3 Wendigo, Christian God of Hell, Lucifer (Nabarro - Wally): Spoiler: image 4 Hades, Greek God of The Underworld, Hades (duh xD) [Soom - Saiph Boy]: Spoiler: image 5 Kaius, Egyptian God of The Dead, Anubis (Soom - Ender): Spoiler: image 6 Jack, Norse God of Mischief, Loki (Blackcherry - Kaorin Boy): Spoiler: image 7 Zion, Greek God of Thunder, Zeus (Nabarro - Sumner): Spoiler: image 8 Koreline, Greek Goddess of The Underworld, Persephone (Elfdoll - Sian): Spoiler: image 9 Irina, Greek Goddess of Fear, Phobos (Blackcherry - Kaorin): Spoiler: image 10 That's all for now, if you need more reference pictures let me know or just visit my instagram page ^^ I'm currently working on new Gods and willing to improve those I already have! I wish it wasn't so hard ;-;
I have to say that I follow you on instagram and I love your dolls! They're all very beautiful and unique and I love how they have their own stories and personalities. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
I have a world of gods/goddess that I'm in the middle of working on. I have Titania- Fae goddess, though much darker than the usual fairy queen. There is Supay, her lover, the Peruvian god of the underworld. I also have a few lesser demi-gods and such like for flowers, fire, water, etc. I have a whole slew of werewolves, 2 undead shamans/witches, 2 bat girl cryptid things, a chaos demon, a eunuch, a muse girl, an oracle or seer, and more.... XD
I hope that I can join this thread with a OC Goddess. This is Prism, the Goddess of Color. She is the Goddess of rainbows. She gives color to the universe. Prism, Goddess of Color 1 by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr Ryu
@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 your Prism is gorgeous! @Alois Trancy WOW! I am blown away by your gorgeous deities! My FID's character is inspired by Kagutsuchi no mikoto, kami of fire. Alas, he has no face or clothes yet. xD;
Impressive group @Alois Trancy ! I've dreamed of having a doll based on Bast, the Egyptian goddess of cats for several years. Though a vampire and a gorgon would be cool as well.
This is what I'm planning on character-wise for most of my crew! For deities, I'm planning to do Artemis (concept), Persephone (needs a crown, her pupper, a few props, and a faceup but otherwise done!), and Eris (has a body, eyes, and working on her wig/shoes right now). For monsters, I have Scylla (needs some props/clothes then done!), Charybdis (has a body and head and eyes but has SO MUCH more work to go), a harpy (just a head), a sphinx (just a head), Arachne (have head, body, and eyes, need to do a ton of body and crochet work before I'm done), and Medusa (just need to finish both her wigs and decide on which she's keeping and then she's done!).
This thread is perfection! And I love that @Alois Trancy @wickedgentleman 's IG is getting much deserved love, their gods and their complex stories are perfection
Thank you so much for your support and love! I'm really happy to read someone like my work! It's really important to me! Thank you so much! And wow! Kagutsuchi is an impressive deity! I hope to see your doll when it's ready! Thank you! I have Bast on my list, I already have a sculpt for him (mine will be male, even though the Goddess is female) I hope to share my lovely cat with you soon! Thank you so much! I'm very happy to know you like my stories and characters! This is one of the most important things in my life right now, as I'm working as an author! Thank you really much! I'm hoping to share more with everyone soon!
@Alois Trancy, I forgot to mention that I love your dolls too, they are wonderful! Keep posting pics of them on this thread, okay? Ryu
I definitely love seeing god/monster dolls! I want to one day shell one of my D&D OCs who ended her story as a goddess of the dark elves, however that would require finding a doll body with four arms, which are not very common (souldoll Shiva is my grail for her, however it is exceedingly rare on the second hand market , one day...) or modding an existing body which I'm not sure I'm up to the task of yet I absolutely love Norse mythology dolls however as well as Greek/Roman gods (I had a very big obsession with mythology as a child)
WOW, @Disnerys, what a wonderful pic! I hope that you can one day create your character, I'd love to see them! I also have a D&D character that became a god. Maybe I should create her as well. Hmmm.... Ryu
I have Lucifer as a doll. He's a reshell of my second doll ever, who I sold a few years ago. He's actual Lucifer, but also an OC as one of my stories involves angels. I also have Uriel (who's old shell is now Lucifer), Azrael (Death) and I still sort of have Metatron, though his body is being loaned out to two other dolls atm.
I don't have one of Uriel's new BJD as I'm still trying to figure out if I should commission him a new wig or try to glue hair to his head as I like to do. He has a specific hairstyle and the old wig is really too large for his new head. Here's a phone pic I took of Lucifer's new self as he sits on my shelf. He's got some nice wings now, but other than that, he looks the same. Fun fact - those are the only eyes that his character has had since 2008 XD (three different dolls have used them - he's a Migidoll Miho now btw) Lucifer v3 by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr
@Disnerys I looooooooove her! I hope you can make your character in doll form someday, and please do spam photos of her!!!! Ahh, it really strikes a chord with me as I have a D&D Drow that I've toyed with making into a doll for a couple of years now, but have never quite found the right sculpt for. That amazing drawing is certainly reminding me of the itch to do so! @VampireAngel13 I love so much that those have been THE eyes since 2008. That's fabulous!
I have two. The first isn't really a specific cryptid or anything. He's more of a general spirit with wings that was created for a story I'm writing. The second is based on wendigo legend. I tried to combine the modern take on the wendigo (deer horns, deer skull, etc) with the more traditional aspects (heart outside of the body, ashen skin, human form rather than a were-deer).
I was literally going to say exactly this. @Alois Trancy has so many gorgeous dolls that fall into this category!
In the 1940's, pulp fantasy writer Manly Wade Wellman wrote about a species of human-like but inhuman creatures that he called the Shonokin... Strange, cat-eyed, dark-haired gentleman monsters from the Appalachian mountains with odd magic and a long history of being up to all kinds of mischief. This is mine. ^_^ (Shonokin is a Volks SD17 Kiriko)
Marigold is a forest spirit who's sort of a harvest deity-lite in-story-- she's the spirit of autumn, and controls rain. Pictured here with two fake pumpkins and one real one.
Here are my boys This is Percha, my spirit. His entire outfit, crown, and wings were made by me. And this is Johann, my wendigo. It's a little hard to see the ice heart on his chest, but it's there lol. The resin casting was very fun. If you'd like a better shot, I have more on my profile. Spoiler: image 2
@Brightfires, I've not heard of this author, but now I'm curious. Thanks, and Shonokin is gorgeous! You always have the most amazing outfits for your dolls. @Anneko what a cutie! If it wasn't summer here, I'd say she was making all the rain we're having. @maykoh, what a phenomenal pair! Ryu
If you can find a copy... https://www.amazon.com/Who-Fears-Devil-Planet-Stories/dp/1601251882 ... is a good place to start when it comes to Wellman. That's a collection of his Silver John stories. This one... https://www.amazon.com/After-Dark-M...53ZG85CQ4PS&psc=1&refRID=ZWEBC02YE53ZG85CQ4PS ... is one of the Silver John novels, and playing the role of antagonist? A Shonokin fellow named Brooke who is *absolutely* Up To No Good. And who learns a very valuable lesson a little too late. (*coughs* That being "Never proposition an angry witch who's carrying a shotgun".)
Do any of you have dolls that are modded and/or sculpted to look like a God/Goddess or a Cryptid/Monster? Not yet If you don't but you are planning on getting/modding one, which one? Why? I really love Ancient Mesopotamia and it would be a dream of mine to have a pantheon of Babylonian deities. I don’t have any specific sculpts in mind for this yet, but I feel like they all need to have tan skin or fantasy skin, depending on which one it is. They’d all have to be really big too, preferably 75-80cm. Soom Mecha Angels and Souldoll’s Tera-Zeniths both felt so majestic and ethereal when they were around and are the kind of vibe I’d want to have for them.
I don’t know if it counts as mythological or literary that I’m shelling characters from Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is an epic poem about the tyranny of kingship, written by Staunch anti monarchist John Milton, but it uses God and Satan to tell that story, and Satan is somewhat the protagonist in it (which is wild, given that it was published in 1667!) I’ve written my own AU of it, to create vampirism for the series I write, that also plays off a little bit of the Lilith mythology I’ve been able to unearth. Right now I have Satan and Lilith/Eve finished and beautiful, Sin and Death (Satan’s kids) half-shelled, and I have ideas for Abdiel and Ithuriel, who are two of the other angels in PL, as well as Beelzebub and possibly Mammon and possibly Moloch—which would leave Belial the only named devil not shelled, and I might just have to bring him in… My beloveds by Indifferent Red, on Flickr These two are my Eve/Lilith character and Satan!
@Chameleon I love your idea and would love to see more as you shell them! I’ve always wanted a whole bunch of demons too, but there are barely any sculpts that come close to what I envision (and the few that do are insanely rare). Doll making and sculpting is something I’ve seriously considered starting because I feel this is the only way to have some of my dream collection. Same with the Babylonian deities. I’m excited to see more of your dolls!
Ocean horror seems to be a recurring theme with my dolls. I guess growing up along the coast has left its influences! I have a Dollzone Jellyfish with clear hands as a lighthouse keeper, and a head I intend to paint and maybe sculpt scales on (when I finally get some good faceup weather!)
