Recently received a new doll with magnetic hands, and one of the magnets needs to be glued back in. What glue is the best/safe for resin? Anything else I should keep in mind?
Magnets are pretty strong sometimes, and as such the glue needs to be as well. Since gluing in magnets is also usually supposed to be permanent, going the superglue route is fine. However, in order to avoid any mistakes (like gluing in one magnet the wrong way), it's best to do it like this: - take the two magnets and let them snap against each other - now mark the exposed ends with a pen, a simple dot is enough - the side with the pen mark = end of the magnet that needs to be glued into the socket / side without pen mark = where the magnets will later stick together/end that should not be in the socket - separate magnets again, add glue into the socket, put in magnets Just keep in mind that seeing no dot = good. The dot should be inside your doll. I ONCE made the mistake of gluing in a magnet the wrong way, but I've been doing it the above way for years now and since then no accidents anymore
I've used krazy glue for a while when gluing magnets back in. I used e6000 before too, but I think krazy glue is working better in my very hot humid climate where things come unglued constantly As for "safe" some superglues are a nightmare to clean off resin. I know e6000 is easy enough to get off. I've been trying not to find out with krazy glue.
Hello - I have had good experiences with gel glue. I use Pattex Repair Extreme. The glue only sticks, does not dissolve the resin and can be removed with acetone-free nail polish remover and isopropyl alcohol. Gel glue has the advantage that it compensates for the different thermal expansions of resin and magnets. The nuthatch remains somewhat elastic. It is also suitable instead of hot glue for slowing down ball joints by jittery dolls ;-) If you have a problem with patience, the gel glue is not recommended. The drying time (final strength for loads) is a little longer at 24 hours. However, you have enough time to remove any glue that has escaped or stuck in the wrong place :-)
how do you get the magnets out of the fairylinf minifee slots in the head? 1 magnet is in wrong and I cant use the antlers. my boy has a faceup also. the antlers are delicate and might break getting a magnet out of them.. pleeeeaaasse help
Probably due to the horrific heat I've had a magnet come off. I glued it back with superglue and it did not give me issues.
