Hi all, I’ve seen posts on using dyes to try and de-yellow a doll by bringing back some pinker tones but I was wondering if instead it would be possible to work with the yellowed resin colour as a base for giving the doll a light golden tan. The idea hit me last night as I was thinking about how I was going to redo the faceup on a rather yellowed doll I adopted. Has anyone successfully done this? I know body blushing can also be an option but my hands tend to sweat a lot so for me it isn’t practical unfortunately. I thought dying might be a more hard wearing solution that would give me a nicer colour base to work with. I wouldn’t be doing it myself as I live with birds (they have incredibly sensitive respiratory systems), I have allergies and quite honestly I’d be too scared to try! Thank you for any advice on this matter
I'm sure it's within the realm of possibility. The only real trouble I can think of would be guessing your colors correctly with the yellow to keep it natural.
Yep, it's actually a good base to go for a tan and way easier than lightening it up (in whatever shape or form). Your birds should be fine if they are not in the kitchen, if yes carry out the cage to a safe space and let the kitchen air out fully before they can go back. It's also not that scary to do to be honest, especially when you just go for a light dip. If you'd still rather commission someone for it, there are some artists that offer it and it's an easy enough request I'd say.
I yellow my dolls when I tan them. I use a mix of Rit Dyemore in Sandstone (tan), Chocolate (Brown) and Yellow. I actually use twice as much yellow as the browns in the mix. So using a yellowed doll, I'd just use the brown dyes.
@Mittzle, @Ara, @lully.lullers and @Teddy thank you all so much! So good to know and very helpful, I think that’s the route I’m going to take once I find someone in the UK. @lully.lullers thank you as well for saying what dyes you use. He’s a more golden yellow than greenish yellow so in theory should take a tan well. If it makes any difference he’s a Leekeworld doll, needs restringing too so may as well get that done at the same time.
Not only can you make a yellow doll tan, if you use the dezombification serum with Rit Dyemore, and you use the synthetic liquid dye (not the fabric powder dye), you're virtually guaranteed to get a tan. When I dyed my first AoD body, I used the powder dye meant for cloth fabrics. I had to cook the pieces for about 3 minutes, and I got a soft peach skin color. The second AoD body I dyed using Dyemore liquid. I put each piece in for about 5 seconds, wiped the parts off with rubbing alcohol, and still got a deeper tan color. Let me go grab some pics and show you what I mean...
