General Mecha Angel discussion thread!

Jul 20, 2011

    1. Oooh, Antares is a hottie. *fans self* He definitely rings the Sabik bell for me, but I do see the difference b/t the two sculpts. If I could, I'd get both of 'em. They would make awesome brothers or fraternal twins. Mmmm....

    2. This might be pretty noobish of me to ask, but I've never looked into ordering a MA before and I really love Antares, he's perfect for one of my characters.. so any help is appreciated~

Do these guys come up every month for five days or is Antares, a limited doll?
      Can you do layaway on them like normal or do you have to pay in full? The link in the FAQ leads to a deadpage so I'm not too sure on that one >_<;;;;

    3. Gridbug, Soom recently changed their sale system:

So you can buy a MA of any gender every two months and I think you can do layaway just like with the other Soom dolls. You could always ask them about their layaway system.

    4. The new boy looks cool, I only wished they didn't stop developing the body.

    5. New boy does look a bit like Sabik, I was hoping they will make some of the girls into boys , always wanted Meisa as a boy. Kind of disappointed.

    6. I have never really been that into MAs, but that photo of him holding the Appini is soooo cute, it's making me look at him more! :XD:

    7. Well, upon closer examination and comparison, I see he does have a different jawline and mouth than Sabik, but still has those smoky bedroom eyes that just bowl me over when I look at my elf Sabik. So hmm, he's gonna be a contender. I want to add a second mecha and was really thinking a male Vega, but the new sculpt is likely to drag me in. I actually like the new ordering system; it's easier to remember and more in line with what other companies are doing, but I do wish they'd do it for 10 days instead of 5. Just for convenience.

    8.
    9. I took one look at Antares, like, 15 minutes ago, and my tax return just disappeared .... yes, he does have a Sabik-ishness about him but my first take was "Cuba!" I think he sort of looks like a large Cuba! However, those long narrow eyes and his too too sexy mouth did it for me. He really does bring to mind several other studly Sooms and that is a good thing! Can have all of them in one gorgeous hunk of Antares! Now the wait .......

    10. what's the point to make new molds for this line if their bodies sucks? they should really redo everything.

    11. I agree the body is really awful. Impossible to pose, and the legs are just a nightmare....but I still love the MA's!

    12. Is there any way to keep those looong legs from buckling besides wiring? I get Fayed in "the perfect pose" and then his legs either buckle under him or they do this weird bowing out backwards and it looks painful and meanwhile I've lost the pose (this especially happens when I am posing him with his lover, Jovani, and I am trying to keep two dolls together for the picture)! And where do those funny little lozenge thingies go in the legs? They are supposed to help with posing but I couldn't figure it out - they kept falling out! Do they go behind the knees? Do they work?

Re the Mecha Mens' bodies - I'm happy with their torso but would like improvement on the arms and legs, and also more mobility for posing the head.

    13. I actually like the body; I think it's sexy. But I mostly have him standing (I use the big Dollmore waist stand) or sitting, where he can look quite casual, and don't need to achieve elaborate poses. I use the little pegs in the hip sockets and that helps a ton. If I had one wish, it would be for bigger hands on the boys.

All you have to do is look at Candygears' awesome gallery thread (or any of her photos of Mr. Have, actually) to see that it IS possible to do some pretty incredible poses with a Mecha. Tho her expertise is way beyond me!

    14. I have two Mechas and no problems posing them. I had my Vega standing rather precariously on a box for twenty minutes and he didn't so much as twitch. I think you just need to get the right string tension, and maybe a bit of wire for the arms if you like more complicated poses.

    15. I'm so excited that they released a Mecha, these babies need moar lovin! I agree he resembles Sabik somewhat with his eyes but I'm not too keen with his jawline so it wasn't a total love at first sight, Sabik captivated me moar. Since he's unlimited, I'm gonna sit on my hand and wait for omfghawt owner photos to bowl me over & knock the mone- stuffing out of me :D.

I went nuts over his outfit though, it's absolutely perfect for my boy. My Rex wants it and he wants it, nao!!! *slams on pay button*

    16. Those little peg things are called beans I guess that is what people call them here. Mine dont really work at all on Corvi. My Sabik is not so bad, but Corvi's legs turn all the way around, if you know what I mean. I really can't get him to stand or anything for more than a minute. And like you mentiones, they buckle always. I have never noticed a hole behind the knee for the peg...I am going to look now and see...

Hydra Kitten~ your post made me laugh!!!!

    17. I haven't used the pegs in the knees, but for the hips, I put some hot glue in the hole at the top of the thigh and stuck the peg into the glue; that keeps it from falling out and isn't permanent. If I used the knee peg (or bean, if you prefer) I would do the same thing.

    18. Aw, crap. Looks like my Sabik is getting a brother...:aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

    19. mmm... Sabik"ish" good looks lol! am i crazy or is Soom rehashing older Molds right now? i thought we would have seen something "fresher" by now.

    20. I took the plunge and started a layaway for Bellatrix. Too bad the things she were shown with are already sold out before she was available. I like the new man too. He may have to come home to be her partner.

    21. I request lots and lots of pictures when that arrives. ^__^ HOT.

    22. Ordered fullset Antares w/o faceup/blushing !!!! Who else is with me???? ;)

    23. Woot! I ordered Antares fullset w/o body blushing! I'm with ya, all the way!
I even asked them about the sunglasses, as I didn't see them on the site elsewhere, and they said they do plan to manufacture those at a later date, but no set date yet.

And I got all excited, and took Marcus, my Sabik out for some camera time Saturday. :)

      Many more here.

    24. Yay!!!! Congrats on ordering him...so now we wait!!! I also asked about the sunglasses. Victoria said to check back often, that they will indeed make them. I love Marcus and his sweater. Now with 3 MA's in the house soon I definately need more clothes!!!!!

    25. The sweater's IpleHouse EID. ;) Bit big in the back, but it's a sweater, so works well. The jeans are M3 or 3M, I forget which way it goes. lol

    26. My Bellatrix arrived yesterday but I'm out of town and didn't recieve a shipping notice so I'm soo surprised. I can't wait to get home to see her! She is in need of clothing bad....

    27. I have question, witch actually hunts me for few years already XD Which sculptor actually made Sabik head?
I was not in the hobby at the time he first showed up in year 2007 (or 2006), I read somewhere that Soom had biography of sculptor on their website in early days. I tried to research... but could not find any information... Maybe someone has any clue?

And here are some pics of my Adriel, I redid his face-up for the third time, and I think I did not showed him here yet^^ I'm finally very happy with result^^

      [IMG] [IMG]

    28. Adriel is quite handsome and I particularly like him in the wig on the left.

    29. Thank you!! The wig on the left is handmade by me :)

So, no one has any idea about the sculptor? T_T

    30. Ah, Adriel <3 I can say many more times, what you know already - he looks great <3
I wish I could help with the sculptor, but I`ve no idea, sorry.

Ferrand says "hi" in a spring mood ^^
      [IMG]

    31. Oh, what a lovely boy. <3 I'm loving that faceup. ^__^

    32. Dedra, Thank you :D Your Ferrand is really lovely too, I love this picture <3

    33. Hello,
Like so much this thread, to see all those beauties! and all info and comments from owners helped me to make my mind on getting Sabik.
Loved his face since the first time I saw him, his size and price made me settle with just looking him on Flickr and DoA (never planed to have an SD, back when I started to know about bjd SD seemed to much for me).
Well, now time and him have changed my bjd plans, don't care anymore if he is 1/2 scaled to me, and all there is to it is just wait about 3 months now to meet him :) (I wonder if MA usually take almost all the 100 days of the Delivery Time Guarantee to be sent?). Well I guess I'll soon (wish) find out.
When I ordered him there was Antares brand new to order too, I agree he has a resemblance to Sabik and he is as handsome as all the other MA guys, loved his eyes that remind me of Benicio del Toro :P, love Deneb's lips, Corvi's nose, Vega's malice, but there is something intriguing in Sabik's expression that I just can't stand :fangirl:.
I love to see what everyone here has done with your boys, and I'm so interested to see what owners do with Antares.
Yea, too much rambling right, I'll be introducing my boy when he arrives (like no one here as ever seen a Sabik :sweat)

    34. Egura <3 :D

Graratiam, congratulations. Happy ramble is welcome ;) Makes me happy too XD

I have a question to people, whose MAs have a taste for classic suits - where can I get one? did you commission or buy any classic outfits? how did they fit? were they well made? would you recommend a dolly tailor, please?

    35. Hate to ask but I got a body second hand and a finger had broken in transit. Does anyone know how much it'd cost to replace his hands?

    36. If you still have the piece, I'd opt for gluing it back together. Soom's resin colors change so much from batch to batch. . . Or try a pair of jointed hands?

    37. I do mean to opt to get jointed hands when I've got the extra money and it is glued now - what I did the moment after photographing, but I'm looking for the cost for compensation to be refunded to me for the cost of the default hands.

    38. Happy rambles are always fun to read! ^___^

I commissioned Bread17 a few years ago now, for a "Man Suit" in Mecha Angel size, and it was expensive (about $200 with shipping?), but man, it's awesome! I'll have to dig up some photos for you, but here is a link:
DOA link thread (in post number 7)
Mine came with the black jacket and pants, and a black shirt... and I think a tie as well. Possibly a belt. (It's been yeeeears...) I may have had to buy the shirt separately, as in the Man Suit might just be the jacket and pants, I really can't remember exactly. :sweat
No idea if I'm the only one that ever commissioned that size (I don't see it listed as an option), so you may need to do the whole list of measurements for them again. That was part of my cost, them having to make a new set of patterns, so hopefully, if they kept those measurements and patterns, it should be less than the $200 I spent.
But, very good quality and totally worth it!
Edit: I found my suit, and I got a leather jacket instead of a cloth one, so I'm sure the regular "Man Suit" will be less.

...and dunno anything about the Sabik sculptor. :(
*comes back after thinking about it for a bit* I DO remember there was a page a long time ago that did tell us all about the Sabik sculptor! It was when Sabik first came out. ^___^ They had a photo of him and a little story of the creation of the Mecha Angel. Sad to see it's gone now. :(

And Ferrand looks like he's enjoying a private joke at someone's expense... ~_^ Handsome man!

    39. Anybody ahve any idea why sculpts like Bellatrix and male Vega are currently for sale but female Saiph and female Vega are sold out right now? Isn't it FFD time right around now? If I can't get a female Vega I will probably die of heartbreak. :...(

    40. :( I heard something about it too... thought I never saw myself, that's why I'm so desperate... I bet it's really naive of me to think someone took print-screen of that page, or at least remembers sculptors name... T_T

      Update 05 03:
Is this this how old page of the sculptor looked like? I digged some web archives...
Well the body of MA is defiinetly Dimu made, it is written in chest part of my Sabik, so the head is also Dimu made?

    41. General question about the bodies. I got a friend to tighten my Mecha Angel body for me and we noticed that there are circle indents and in the pelvic piece and a hole for, what we assume is a peg or something in the legs where they join the pelvic piece.

Is it supposed to be missing for some reason or is it strange that I don't have that 'peg' ? Any ideas? I can see how it'd help with him sitting and standing. Even tightened his legs still 'swing' since they don't lock in place.

    42. They are supposed to be included with the instruction and Soom booklet :O!

    43. :O I guess I should message the girl I bought the body from and hope she still has them.. ><

I was wondering why something like that was there.. and why even tightened he's still seems loose simply because of the legs swinging. I hope she still has them..

    44. Even with the pegs mine is still very wobbly in the legs.

    45. Really? Well then maybe it isn't such a bad thing without? I'm assuming his legs would pose better with the pegs though?

    46. Really better :O!! It is awesome to make him sit :3

    47. I guess that'd explain why he flops back then. I can only get him to sit by slouching.. and a slouching Snape doesn't quite emit the attitude he should be giving.

Though currently the only clothes I have to fit him is a lace top and sweat pants.. so that doesn't quite suit at the moment either.

    48. I have never used the pegs on my Sabik (they seemed really tricky if he's wearing clothes) but I wired him and hot glue sueded all his joints as well, which really improves the posing. He is still one of the trickier dolls to get into standing poses, but at least now his arms and legs cooperate a bit more.

Congrats on all the new arrivals (and soon to arrivals)! Its nice to see that the Mecha's are still around, I personally love their imposing skinny size, and Sabik is so beautiful and versatile.

This thread reminded me that Mr. Have is waay overdue for some photo time... This is his most recent pic, but maybe I'll take him out this weekend :D

    49. egura - Hmmm... nope. I recall a color photo of the sculptor standing to the side of a road, smiling at the camera... lots of green grass...

      Mr. Have is just awesome!

I have only hot glue sueded my Sabik's arms and upper torso, the rest works fine as-is, and his pegs are still in the baggie with the paperwork. I don't think I've ever given them a try... hmm...

    50. aernath, hmmm... then I'll dig some more ^^ thanks for the discription about that picture^^

candygears, I'm looking forward for the new pics of Mr. Have, he's fantastic!!!:D

This week I resealed my big boy, also hot glued and finally wired him^^ Now he stands by himself again, and now he can support his younger soul-brother... usually it was opposite, the little one was helping him to stand during photo-shooting :sweat

    51. egura~Really nice photo!!!

    52. Thank you very much! This is most recent photo of my boys :3 I'm glad you like it :)

    53. Candygears: Mr Have is fantastic! I seen the photoset and was in love with his look!

I'll keep the wiring and sueding in mind, I need to be getting wire for another doll for posing anyhow.

    54. Just for fun :) I never though this day would come... until I hot glued and wired him XD

    55. Egura, your guy looks great! Are those Soom jointed hands on him or a different brand? If another, which one? They are a really nice fit.

    56. How thick a wire should be used? Because, honestly, my Sabik's body drives me INSANE! And not in the good way. XD

    57. AnitaS, Thank you! Yes, those are Soom jointed hands^^ I find them aesthetically best looking among all jointed-hands.

malvagitabella, at least mine was the same thickness as the string (or maybe just slightly ticker), the wire I used was really flexible, even thought it was really challenging to put the wire through the knee to calf part ^^'
But I'm definitely not an expert in wiring, I did this for the first time...

    58. Both my boys are a floppy mess.....I wish I knew how to wire, tighten or hot glue...those little pegs for the legs dont work at all on my Corvi, but they work nicely on my Sabik. Now awaiting my 3rd Antares, I hope I won't have all these issues with him too :(

    59. [IMG]

Goldfish rocks the Ender outfit. ^___^

And stands happy as can be in the lumpy grass, go figure. >.>
