General 10-20cm Blind Box BJD Discussion

Even though bugs freak me out, I might order a full set of the bug coffee cafe dolls because they're just so cute. I'm also loving the body proportions, they remind me of panty and stocking with garterbelt. Oh and their bodies kind of look like a fully posable version of Puyoo Doll's pockey kumako doll.

 

Hello all! I've been out of the BJD community for -years- but these affordable 1/12th dolls have pulled me back in.
It's been so so long since I've been on DoA. I'm guessing you have to host photos offsite to include in posts? (Hopefully the below photo of my Penny Centaurs will work!)



I'm kind of looking for an active community for 1/12th dolls? They're off topic here so I'm guessing not DoA haha. Facebook has general BJD groups where these type of dolls are allowed, and another obitsu 11 specific group. But the specific group is really inactive :/ I almost want to start my own but not if I'm going to be the only one posting...
Can anybody suggest anywhere else? I want to post photos and share my struggles with my custom Liroro girl lol

 

@liarakon ohhh they look lovely together! Kikagoods has a discord that I've heard is fairly active on the blind box bjd front, maybe something to check out.

 

@liarakon I have to agree with the others, your styling makes them look so wonderful! And @cobaltconduct is correct! Kikagoods have a very active Discord which keeps people up to date with the latest of the blind box bjd news

 

I was happy to see that KikaGoods has the 1/12th tiger and squirrel bodies from Bonbon Galaxy for sale as well as the mermaids. I could only get one, so I picked the tiger in Ob regular. Luckily I have pleeeenty of heads already to chose from.

 

Kikagoods pre-order for the Bug Cafe bjds starts on the 22nd Oct. Shopping is due Dec/Jan.

 

Looks like Aiye (which made the Colourful Brocade series) is planning to release mermaids as well!

I wonder if they'll all come with a little chair like in the photo?

 

I hope they have the shell chair. So cute and good for display

How many Ob11 Mermaid lines is that now? I hope we get to see other fantasy beings as well; I could go for a set of faeries (though I guess the bug series is kinda close! XD). I'd also love to see a second wave of School Haunting; they're so cute!

 

Oh nice to see someone finally started a general thread for these kinds of little dolls. It is insane how many mermaids are in the works. I'm rather sad more companies didn't also jump on the centaur bandwagon.

 

Having seen more of the Bug Cafe dolls - thanks to the pre-order opening today - I... like this kind a lot more than I already did. Admittedly, I was sold on it from promo art, but seeing how they actually look has bumped them up. Cannot afford to buy anything atm - this is an expensive time of year, sadly - but... I am genuinely wondering if I would go for a full set of six.

Yeah, I’m planning on getting all six of the insect girls, just not until they are in stock, so around January. It gives me more time to save up and I have chosen not to do pre orders anymore. If for some reason they are all sold out, oh well, it wasn’t meant to be.

 

Anyone know if they have seen the toes in the insect dolls actually move? Like there is a joint there but I don't think I've ever seen a photo where it isn't in the same position. I'm torn on if I am going to get one. I mostly only collect boy dolls and not sure the body is too my taste enough I want to buy it just to hybrid an nendo head on. At the same time the part of me that keeps mantises as pets demands I get the orchid mantis one.

 

I can't seem to find any photos of the toes in different positions either... They do appear to be designed to move in the concept drawings though.

In other news, the Nendoroid Doll mermaid bodies are up for preorder if anyone's interested in making a hybrid. But it looks like they might only work for jointed 1/12 dolls and not strung ones.

 

I've done this with a few sets I was less sure about, and so far haven't missed anything! Even when I thought I was too late with the pajama party tinies, they popped back in stock on kikagoods and I pounced XD so hopefully you'll have similar luck!

(And me too tbh, as there's too many tiny dolls coming out right now for me to keep up. I can't preorder them all... at least one set is gonna have to wait until release.)

 

@bentosmile I agree with you about so many sets coming out these days! Usually there is just one or two that I really want out of a set, and my luck hasn’t been very good, so I end up buying a complete set just to guarantee I get them. Then I don’t know what to do with the extras, ha ha, sigh. I’m trying to be really picky and give myself more time to think before I buy. It’s hard as I’m used to the ‘get it now, or regret it later’ mindset. I don’t use any of the Chinese shopping sites so I don’t have that temptation too. Thankfully with the insect series I have until January to decide.

 

I wound up with my two least-favourite Bonnies in the first wave so I gave one to a friend. XD They were cheap enough that they make nice little gifts.

 

I have to agree with what others have said here. At least with Kikagoods, there's no worries if you don't pre-order, as they do very well at keeping people informed on their stock levels.

But there are such a lot of these little ones coming out now. It's amazing, but also a bit overwhelming.

@namika Might want to be careful about directly linking those promos as I have seen a number of other people state the company is a known recaster in the bjd world. I think that is why Kikagoods originally dropped carrying their last line of 1/12 blindbox dolls...

 

Thanks for the heads up! I've removed the link. Very disappointed that Kikagoods would consider working with this company again if they have been warned about them before...

Edit: Looks like Kikagoods has officially responded that they will not be working with this company. Good for them!

 

LuckyDoll came up with a new teaser!
This time they are collabing with another blind box designer known as the "Little Gulliver" team (found here: Sina Visitor System )

This collab is going to be a set of small dragons (nicknamed "finger dragons"), apparently they are going to be so tiny that they can wrap around your finger. Similar to previous sets, Lucky Doll will release the designs one by one.

From the looks of it, they each have a story and their own colour. Since the teaser specifically mentioned the purple one is a girl, there's a good chance there'll be boys, too.

Teaser for a new boy series of blind box dolls from Simontoys. Looks like they will be called 'Peterson School' and will be similar in size to the Liroro series. No inset eyes though.

 

I wish they were hinged jointed, like Penny's Box boys, but that hasn't stopped me from getting the girls. I'll definitely will be getting at least one, since all these are boys, and I like the eyes even if the are not inset. I just hope the bubblegum is magnetic and not an inserted part, as a gaping hole on the face is kind of a huge turn-off for me -- that kind of kept me from trying to get more PB' s boys (because of the possibility of getting the one with the leek in his mouth).

(I wonder what the splatoon-esque dolls in the back are? The hair sculpts are kind of neat!)

@Enzyme I agree with you about the Adou boy with the stem in his mouth. Not a fan at all. I ended up with the complete series just to get the boy with the orange ponytail and decided to swap a different face plate to create the ‘perfect’ boy. The others are still in the box as I don’t know what to do with them

 

And just a note that it looks like Kikagoods has translated the new Simontoys boys as 'Paterson College'.

 

Kikagoods has posted more concept art for the tiny LuckyDoll dragons. They seem to all be girls so far? Though I kind of feel like the green one and the black one could be boys. Anyway, it looks like they might be on genderless 'angel' bodies.

 

Really liking the look of the little dragons. Can't wait for production shots!

 

Oh I am gonna be in trouble ;o; I own 2 of the super tiny dolls from Gulliver, so my brand loyalty is gonna pull me in for sure. Also, dragons.

I'm sure eventually I'm gonna hit saturation point and become more picky. Starting to hope it happens sooner rather than later. I know I'll get the next Teennar set, but I'm less sure about the new boys Simon Toys are showing. As much as I've been wanting more boy dolls, they don't feel different enough from the boys in Nagi Cub sets..? Maybe this is a sign that I am reaching the point where I'm okay missing out (this, and the 3 different mermaid sets coming out. I can/should only get 1.) Dolls need to be more unique now to pull me in ^^;

Just wanted to thank you for posting the updates!

 

I bought a whole bunch of the blindboxes from Kikagoods, including the Aiye Colorful Brocade series, but wasn't in love with any of the ones I got (I bought 3) so I'm giving them to my niece. Hopefully she enjoys them a lot more than I did!

 

I'm also sad about the missing ears - what's the point of a bunny face without them? I feel like the outfits offer less as the series goes on as well, ver 2 already lost the props and shoes. Seems like the faceups are more detailed though.

 

Little foxes were announced on Kikagoods today!

 

I think they are considered off-topic for this thread though as they are from Bonbon Galaxy and probably resin.

 

I like Mango Lulu, but I’m going to pass as I have too many already, and I need to be more picky because of all the new ones being released, as I’m still planning on getting the insect series. So many choices

 

I'm a little sad that nothing since the first bonnies has really spoken to me enough to get any, I'd definitely like a few more desk buddies. But maybe it's also that there are so many lines by now that I just keep waiting for something "new and better" to pop up. I did notice that Kikagoods is communicating with Come4Arts regarding the "where are the ears and skintones?" feedback so there's hope for season 4!

No, the dragons are a collab with Gulliver Small. Gulliver Small does heart-shaped elastic channels too! I have one of their tiny mermaids. Actually, the dragons look like they might be around the same size? So probably off-topic for this thread as they aren't 1/12?

I think the Luckydoll mermaids were the ones that were supposed to be a collab with Sio2?

Thank you everybody for your kind comments on my antu centaurs! I did indeed change their eyebrows (I'm an absolute eyebrow fiend and their default one were just too delicate for me!!)

I have actually started a group on facebook! It's for under 25cm, strung dolls. Any kind. We've had a good response so far, and ran a Halloween competition. I'm planning a Christmas one with a 1/12th jumper dress as one of the prizes and possibly a professionally printed backdrop

Ohh it's gorgeous isn't it?? Originally that panel of our banner photo was something else, but it was pointed out that the owner/sculptor was problematic. Thankfully I was able to contact one of our members and ask if I could use her pico dragon image instead. She'd posted it on a collage and I snooped around her page and fell in love with that photo! She's

Oh, they gave the Lucky Doll mermaids a makeover! They look much more tempting now to me!

 

Penny's mermaid dresses look so good, I hope they're part of the set not just extra outfits for purchase.

 

From what i've seen of the mermaid dolls, the dresses are not included unfortunately
