I got my Inedible Doll bunny today, and 1) she's so cute, and 2) her engineering puts my two other more mature dolls (COME4FREE's Minty, and the 10,000 Escape Plans dolls) to shame. Where they are unmanageably floppy, she's the same size as them yet sturdy as a rock. She can even balance on her own. Inedible Doll really nailed it here. Despite their rocky start on Modian, I really really hope we see more lines from them going forward, because it's one of the better constructed blind box BJDs I've had, and I own a lot at this point. The main reason I'm quickly popping in though is as a PSA! I know many won't care about this, but it's something that I care about and I do know at least one other person in this thread cares about this sort of thing; I think Inedible Dolls uses real fur for their bunnies. I'm saying "think", because I don't really know how to verify it, but they come with little bunny tails and to me it feels exactly like real animal hair (squirrel fur maybe). Or if nothing else, it doesn't feel like any synthetic I've felt. I think it may also be attached to pelt, but the way it is constructed makes it to fully see (a looooot of glue). I'm genuinely not sure, but I wanted to flag it up for those who are conscious of animal products being used. I didn't know they came with fur tails going in. I'm not somebody who wants (real) leather or fur in my hobbies, so I know I might have liked a heads-up going in. Maybe it's just the world's most convincing synthetic, but I figure it's worth a mention.
Thanks so much for the heads up, on the fur nattherat. I was eyeing these girls, despite me thinking about seriously not purchasing many more of these mystery boxed dolls. I had thought about it when I saw they had fluffy tails, I can't recall where, but I assumed they would note if it were real animal fur. *sigh* Oh well, I guess one less one to be tempted by. Thanks again for the warning (real animal derived products are a huge no for me!).
I hate double posting, but this might be something that interests others. I asked Inedible Doll, on their website, if the tails are made out of fur, and they said the following: Dear ****, Thank you for reaching out and for your love for rabbits. We completely understand your concerns, and we want to assure you that none of our products contain real rabbit fur or involve harming any animals in the manufacturing process. The bunny tail is made of faux mink fur, which is a synthetic fiber material designed to be soft and warm, resembling real fur but entirely cruelty-free.We truly appreciate your support and your care for animals. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! On 16/4/25 5:38 PM, Inedible Doll (Shopify) wrote: My specific question was: "Are the tails in the Inedible Doll, Lunar Leap: Rabbit Babes Collection made out of animal fur, or synthetic fur? Thank you for your time." I never said if it was rabbit fur, so I am a bit confused, but that might just be machine translation error/not-English-native language speaker, or just read through the question too quickly. Not sure if I'll be getting one, because as I said I was planning on slowing down on getting more of these mystery boxed dolls, but I feel a little ambiguous about these even now. I might just ask the seller/dealer, if I chose to have one in particular, to remove the tail from my box if I go ahead and get one. I know that giving people the benefit of the doubt is common courtesy, but not when it comes to products that might be animal derived (at least not for me). I would have preferred a plastic magnetized tail, or just plastic piece even without a magnet. However, I hope that helps others, in case the use of animal products matter to other people, as well. (:
I just got the Liroro Fairytale Series girls. I got the whole set because I REALLY wanted the secret Cinderella. I didn't get her.
as always, please forgive the terrible photography (listen there was a cat making eyes at my fries i had to move fast) but my Past in Sicily boys came today! Got the doberman, which was the one I wanted the most.... aaaand the golden retriever, which was the one I wanted the least lmao. But honestly, I actually like him a lot more in person. They're pretty well scaled to make a decent BJD for a BJD, tbh. I was genuinely surprised by how much articulation they managed to pack into those bodies. Plus, they come with a lil key to adjust the eyes and a surprisingly wide variety of extra hand poses.
There's a ton of new news, and I haven't reported on any of it, sorry! There's a lot of new dolls in the works, I've just definitely been less engaged because a lot of the newer stuff isn't my jam at all. A lot of newer stuff is going into the niche that things like Azone and Obitsu 20cm anime girl dolls already fill, so it hasn't really captured my interest, compared to how super different and new the chibi anthro and fantasy dolls felt to me. Speaking of the whole newer vs older and that; just wanted to give a little psa that I've noticed that older dolls are definitely starting to disappear/discontinue. It's worth remembering that these are a little closer to playline dolls in their production rather than like artist-made BJDs, so instead of being produced to fit demand over years they get one or two enormous production runs and then that's it. Very prolific companies like Penny's Box are still relatively easy to find earlier dolls from, but many of the other smaller studios with their one-time run have begun to disappear. Aiye Mack seems to have completely dropped off, only a few Colorful Brocade dolls remain to buy and no sign of anything new. Lucky Dolls also seem to have dropped off, with no updates since November last year and their dolls becoming harder to find. Kukaka Insect Cafe series seems to be gone too, with only jacked-up reseller prices around, and several of SimonToys series are gone - notably the Dream Town one. Kind of a sad thing to bring up, but my point is maybe if there's any older dolls you like the look of, I recommend prioritising those. I almost missed Dream Town entirely, because I dragged my feet and stopped watching closely. I also re-purchased a Colorful Brocade doll - I had sold mine, but not only did I miss it, now it seems likely that Aiye won't be making anything more I decided I definitely wanted one in my collection. I have a couple friends who have slept on these assuming that they'll be available for years to come, but that isn't the case. If you had wanted to pick up one of the older dolls but just hadn't gotten around to it, sooner rather than later might be better.
Well, ended up with a little more time this evening than I thought I was going to, so double-post because I may as well do a news round-up! Concept art for a new series called Hexagonal Box. It does seem to be yet more slim anime girls, but I promise I won't complain too much, because they're still cute. I'll probably pass myself, but otherwise the white and blue one is my favourite! A sample of the Sugar Index 100% dolls. And another. And another! Another, I should have numbered these. I don't really have any opinions on these personally, having painted eyes and being standard humans means I personally feel disinterested by them. Nothing grabs me. But they are absolutely cute dolls of course. Samples of Creator's Essence series. Quintessentially slim anime girls haha but they've got the aesthetic down perfectly, especially that kind of moe mori one on the third slide. It almost looks like artwork rather than a photo. My favourite is the last one with the blue hair and starry eyes. Another sample. More samples! Couple more samples. They're an easy pass to me, but cute. Qingqiu Fox series samples. Now this series is what I love, this is why I'm interested in these kinds of dolls in the first place. The stylisation! The unique-ness! These will be the biggest nightmare to dress in anything other than the singular outfit they come with, but dang if they're not nailing what they're going for. I don't know which is my favourite, I think I'll have to wait until the final full release to decide. Simon Toys new Liroro series Binary Sweetheart concept art. Sample 1, sample 2, sample 3. I'm quite happy about these, even though they are technically just more of the same from Liroro. Simon Toys seems to be the only company still making the smaller style dolls, but on the plus side they are really good at it. I've grabbed one doll from most series across most companies, and Simon Toys makes the best quality clothing with the best value by a long shot. I think I'll get the blue-haired one! Fantasy Cat Cafe concept art. If the dolls look like this art, cute paw feet and all, it's an immediate buy from me. Cute Tea Party series samples. These are making me bounce off the walls. I need them like yesterday. I would have preferred shorter squatter bodies for them, but ultimately the thing I want most is non-human faces and they delivered. It's gonna be real hard to limit myself to just one from this series. Will it be the first time I ever buy a full box? For Moon series samples. Absolutely love these faces. I'm a bit on the fence about the bodies, because I can't say I'm a fan of MJD bodies, but I can absolutely be convinced to overlook that for these faces. There's some concepts of limiteds too, here and here. Sample of the next Bonnie series. I'm really bummed that they just have generic anime girl faces now, because the original appeal of Bonnie to me is their cute bunny faces. Now it seems like just an anime girl wearing some ears headband. This is perfectly nice but I think I am just not interested. Samples of the Vintage Treasures series. For all my whining about generic anime girls, I think these are very cute and I think some of the intricate hair sculpts and costuming definitely sets them above the standard. I love the one with the Mami Tomoe hairstyle lol. Still a pass from me, but I like these more than most. Saving the big name OG for last; Penny's Box! Their next series looks to be, you guessed it, tall slim anime girls haha, BUT the gimmick is some very neat wing attachments for them. The new body has two bust sizes, and there's shots of the capabilities here. I really like that it seems most dolls in the series will have unique wings, rather than all the wings being the same, just in different colours. My favourite part of all this though is that it's a brand new series with a new face, so I don't need to complain about more Antus! So I imagine that unless the revealed faces are somehow terrible, it's probably a given I'll get one of these because PB make consistently good products. I'm leaning towards the black and mint green bat wings for now. Phew, I think that's everything since I last did a news post! There's a lot, and tbh it was a good reminder to myself that there's actually several new series I am interested in. So my wallet isn't safe, but it's not as intense as back when everyone was making fantasy lines and everything was a dragon/cat/insect/mermaid/centaur/deer/etc. Probably a good place to be really! How about everyone else, is this making your wallet cry? Or are you safe from the allure of tiny plastic pals?
I'm really sad for the insect cafe series, they were already harder to find a couple months after their release and they're so cute I did get my Akim, but was super excited for more bug boys that they promised! Maybe I should get him a friend while I'm still able instead of waiting for the second series that will probably never happen... That's just speculation on my part, but it could have been because some of them (the bee one in particular) were very prone to having their antennae break off during shipping- I saw someone get broken ones, and when they got a replacement, it was broken too! I was also never able to find any social media of theirs to get news about the series:/
@ArtsyCreature Yeah, their style was amazing and I would really love to see that studio make a new line! I think the main thing is... almost all of these types of dolls are indie projects funded by a Chinese equivalent to Kickstarter. It's actually safer to assume that one single series is all any studio will ever do - not through lack of want or talent, but just because it's an indie thing that only happens if those people are ready to make it at the time and the Chinese market wants it. It's part of the reason why in my collection, I like to collect just one of a line, but from as many different lines/makers as I like. Bigger companies that have other product ranges that keep them up (Penny's Box is the same umbrella as TinyFox, DollZone, Doll Chateau, etc, and COME4FREE has been making figures far longer and wider-distributed than they've been making BJDs) are better positioned to pump out more series, but most of the studios we're seeing pop up don't have anything else to their name and this is their first toy project ever - and possibly their last too. Closest equivalent I can think of to us in the English-speaking sphere is things like indie games and comics that are funded via Kickstarter. You very often see a studio form for one game, but then end up disbanding and going their separate ways afterwards - not necessarily for bad reasons, just because they are human beings and their interests or careers or families may have pulled them apart, and also because there's an extremely large amount of admin the consumer never sees behind these that can make them unfeasible for a small unpaid indie group to keep up with. I do think most of these blind box lines are in very similar situations.
@nattherat thank you for all of the hard work you do to keep us informed! The Quinqui fox series looks awesome! I haven’t been tempted in awhile, so these definitely do. I decided that I needed a little cute pick me up and tried my luck with a Simon Toys blind box (sorry, I don’t know the series except it’s Peetsoon). I got extremely lucky and got the fox one! I love foxes and the color orange, so a double win! He’s quite a bit bigger than my Nendoroid dolls, but I’m in love. I feel so fortunate to have gotten the Insect series full set. I just love them all. My full set had the chase figure in it too, my first ever.
@nattherat I knew they were crowdfunded, but I was really hoping for another series based on their interview with kikagoods! It was a while ago, but they said they'd do more series at a later date I also want to get the judge Akim one, but I can only find him on kikagoods (one that isn't super overpriced that is) and they don't ship to europe anymore he's not on their eu storefront either... @kurogane Oh nice! Those dolls are quite cute Also cool that you got the rare one for the insect series! Who is your favourite of the lil bugs?
@ArtsyCreature my favorite is the mantis girl and second favorite is the boy. All of them are really nice, but those two were the reason I got the full case. The rare one is very pretty and I didn’t realize she was the rare until I looked online. Some day I want to make patterns and sew new clothes, but the outfits are perfect, so I keep procrastinating.
@kurogane oh yea the mantis girl is really cute! I also like their original outfits a lot, but I did make my boy some long pants and a fluffy poncho for winter He looked so cold in outside shots otherwise>_<
Seriously, @nattherat, thank for you all you do in getting all this information summarised here! I've not been paying as close attention lately for the sake of my wallet, but it's still nice to be able to find this stuff. I'm also trying to be a lot more picky on the ones I buy - space is always an issue! Going to give my thoughts in quick bullet points: Hexagonal Box: Really nice art, couple of designs I would like to see as dolls, but probably a pass for me personally Sugar Index 100%: Cuties, but not for me Creator's Essence: Again, very cute, but likely a pass Qingqiu Fox: ... Oh, these ones might actually get me. I really like the stylisation here Simon Toys Binary Sweetheart: Very cute. I don't have any of Simon Toys' previous lines, so it might be a pass for me Fantasy Cat Cafe: If they look like the promo art with the paws ... maybe. Need to see a sample, I think Cute Tea Party: ... Once again, a line that might actually get me. I like the designs here. The faces are cute For Moon: Okay, yeah, if I buy any from this list? It's For Moon. Keeping the link bookmarked till I have some free money. Bonnie: ... I preferred them when they were more bunny like. Not for me, sadly. Vintage Treasures: Very frilly. Cute, but not for me. Penny's Box: My go to! Really liking the look of those new wings. So... yeah, going to look into the For Moon ones, I think?
Thanks for the kind words all! It is just my luck that only a little after I posted the news round-up, Kikagoods revealed this teaser of Penny's Box new series Luluya. They remind me a little bit of UFdoll DoReMi series, but since these have sculpted wings, they have just a little more cool factor haha. I am looking forward to seeing all designs, I hope there's one that speaks to me (spoiler: it's not this one, sadly!). Kikagoods also started taking sales for some of the dolls I mentioned, like Sugar Index 100%, if anyone is interested and normally orders via Kika. There's a good compilation of the next Liroro samples here. I forgot to say but this series is meant as a "dark half" to the previous series! I don't recognise all the fairy tales, but I definitely see Alice in Wonderland and Snow White for the first two, they are very obviously parallels to the Alice and Snow dolls in the previous series. I'm not clear on who the others are yet. ~ I have no pictures to show yet because at the moment it's just bits of cardboard, but I've started on the underwater part of my diorama for my mermaids! It's both exciting and daunting. I'm going into town next week to see if I can find neat things for it, like aquarium scatter and lighting. I also bought a load of fabric that is a close colour-match to the uniforms I used to buy; with them being discontinued, it meant I couldn't get all the ones I wanted so it's time to... make them myself!
So this initial teaser for Luluya is... well, yeah, really reminding me of DoReMi. I'm looking forward to seeing other designs because I'd love to see how the sculpts use the wings well. Good luck with all your making @nattherat
Little update in that I've done some maintenance to the front page of the thread. The list is now up to date for the most part. There's a line that doesn't really fit the criteria for this thread (it's not blind-packaged), but I keep meaning to mention it in case anybody is interested. If anyone is familiar with Yeloli dolls (also translated in the past as Ye Luo Li and Night Lolita, but they now have an official english logo that reads Yeloli), the Chinese fashion doll brand (and animated show and IP and all that), they brought out a line of 14.5cm BJDs recently(ish). It marks the first time (I believe) that they've made actual BJDs - their dolls often get mislabeled as BJDs but are MJDs normally, but these are actual elastic-strung dolls, and very obviously hopping on the popular trend of little pocket-size BJDs (nothing wrong with that!) made out of ABS/PVC. There are eight characters you can collect, all regular non-blind releases, based on characters from the show/IP. I'm debating on whether to add them to the front page. They are really obviously in this vein of dolls, and they're made out of the same usual non-resin as all the rest in the thread, they're just not blind-packaged!
Kikagoods showed off another image of the Luluya series and like I need it kikagoods on Instagram: "New pictures updated by Brand: Penny's Box LULUYA Symphonic Poem Series Action Figure BJD Blind Box 1. The hair accessories are removable 2. The wings are removable and can be moved up and down 3. Shoe straps can be adjusted for better wear ✨Please note: The colors in the pictures are for reference only, please refer to the final product. Sales have not started yet, we will share more progress Follow us and get the newest toy share daily #kikagoods #actionfigure #dollcollector #balljointeddoll #blindbox #kawaii #dolls #bjd"
Oh no..... does that Aquatic Life series have an axolotl? I.... might be doomed lol - though I do really like the no.4 blue girl a lot too!
We've got a couple more previews of Penny's Box Luluya! As well as the green girl that @zekarmisama posted, we also have a look at the purple girl and an orange/mint girl. I thought the first one we saw was going to be my chosen one, but orange/mint girl knocked her off the pedastal for me! I had really wanted to get one of the bat-winged ones, but it annoys me more than is reasonable that green girl has feathers in her ears/hair yet bat wings everywhere else. Just a me-problem. Orange/mint girl looks so good though, I love her. Unless another dethrones her, I'm gonna get her.
Oooooh the orange and mint girl looks cute too! I think I want a minty duo with her and the mint/black girl I posted.
And a look at all of the Luluya in the series! These are all regular styles. It is going to be SO hard for me to settle on just one from this line! I... broke my own rule with the Antu Beast series though so who knows, maybe I'll break the rule again...
More Liroro Binary Sweetheart samples. The clothes are really cute! Bonnie series 3 samples. I'm so conflicted. I like everything about them! Except that they're Bonnie and yet have lost almost all animal features save for optional magnetic ears. I was also, personally, burned really badly by the Minty series, which can't even function without every single part being wired. And also weirdly had much cheaper worse plastic used for the hands compared to the rest of the body (???????). But after all that, I do really like the finish on the cobalt/sapphire blue girl...
Odd news today, I'm really not sure what to make of this. Doll artist STO doll has accused the Kiseki Vintage Treasure series of being plagiarized from their work. Here's their comparison presented as evidence. You can also find that the comments of the Modian campaign for these dolls are also full of the accusations too, as well as other remarks about dissatisfaction with the campaign like no contact. The negative comments continue for at least a few pages. I don't really know what's what, but I guess let this be a warning post. Consider very carefully whether you want to purchase these. Even though I personally struggle to buy the plagiarism angle since no part is actually identical and I've seen other makers like Piccodo also make similar body plans with shoulder joints like that (the only unique part I think), I'm going to err on the side of caution and not include them on the front page list for now. Besides, regardless of the legality of the body, it seems like from the campaign that the company is handling things very poorly, which is good reason enough alone to steer clear.
An update to the above post: I've been watching the Modian closely since then, and monitoring the comments for any further developments. There have been numerous comments about the alleged plagiarism, but concerningly they've all been erased. I have no way of knowing whether they were deleted by the posters, by the people behind Kiseki, or the platform itself, but eradicating those comments seems alarming. One surviving comment this morning tries to elaborate on the situation. I'll paste the original comment here in case anybody is fluent in Chinese, along with the machine translation. Original: Machine translation: It's pretty hard to make heads or tails of the machine translation, I'm sure the original comment makes more sense. It seems like there was supposed to be a collaboration or a desired collaboration, but it didn't happen due to STOdoll's history with plagiarism (?? I have no idea on this, I'm not familiar with whatever this context is). Kiseki/Berry Toys declined this collaboration, and that's when STOdolls accused them? I'm somehow even more confused despite having more information than before lol. It seems like there's some kind of history between the two and it's maybe turned into bad blood? I'm still no closer to understanding however whether any plagiarism actually happened. The two bodies have a very similar look, that's very undeniable, but they also look like several other bodies on the market at this scale, like DOD and Piccodo. DOD especially, which has basically the exact same number of parts in the same configuration. But none of them are actually exactly the same, and even their most similar parts (upper arm/shoulder, thighs) are different shapes/lengths/thickness. However, I do find it very concerning that comments discussing the situation are being deleted; though again, I don't know who by. If anybody can read Chinese, or knows about this alleged plagiarism that STOdolls has apparently done, I would love more context (I follow STOdolls on instagram; I don't want to follow if it turns out they stole stuff!).
After holding out for a month, I got one of the past in Sicily. I really hope it’s one of the ones I want. For some reason I really want to sew clothes for him even though they come with fabulous outfits.
I LOVE the luluya series. Im tempted to get a set of 3 but im not a fan of poem of peace so i might just with stick gambling on 1.
My Past in Sicily guy came in and he’s the one I really wanted! My luck lately has been epic. He’s so tall, but tiny at the same time.
OK so I recently discovered about these blindbox bjd and fell in love with Simontoys, especially the liroro. In fact love the summer island series but I don't see alot of them being for sale on resale site and most of the price are insane from what they would of cost originally. My question is are these blindbox bjd allow to be sold in doa's marketplace or am I allow to post an iso. Or anyone have any pointers will be great . Also anyone know any brand make tiny ones like about 9 to 12cm ? I used to collect latiwhite and if I can find blindbox ones in that size would be lovely . ( humans only , I am not into fantasy dolls )
I don't think they can be posted in the marketplace, since blind box bjd are not considered on-topic. But to be certain, you can try asking the mods in the Ask the Moderators | Den of Angels area.
We are not allowed to sell any off-topic dolls on DoA, or create a to-buy listing for an off-topic doll either here are the rules for the DoA marketplace. You can't suggest selling/buying anything outside the marketplace, for that matter. You can sell certain off-topic dolls as long as they can be seen as an "accessory," such as pets, to the on-topic dolls but not actual dolls that are not resin but are humanoid and are not on-topic in any form, As to where to find less expensive blind boxed dolls, I believe Ali is a good source for most, as long as you are okay with paying whatever taxes you'll need to pay for them once in the USA. I have no clue what they're re right now, as I don't purchase a lot of stuff from China on a regular basis. Anything that is sold by USA re/sellers is probably going to be marked much higher, due to current circumstances and also because that's just how second market works most of the time with niche toys. Blind boxed toys are like any other niche toy, except a lot of people see them as Chinese designer toys as well, so they'll probably be a lot more expensive once all retailers are sold out. That is something to consider if you see one you really want, don't delay on getting it. I have made that mistake, thinking it wouldn't sell out everywhere, but then I couldn't find one doll I really wanted anywhere for retail, and not to even mention second market prices. I don't purchase pre-owned toys that are opened, so that was that me.DX
Thankyou for explaining it , I figured it wouldn't be allow in here since those r made by resin, but since I am out of the loop for so long I got to double check with rules . Haha this is where my problem kicks in I have no problem paying a high or mark up price for a resin bjd. I can't get pass the fact some people (mostly the ones ship out from Japan ) want way over 150 or more for a pvc / plastic doll. ( retail usually is about 25 to 30 from us seller ) I am picky also I would like the have the cards and stuff it comes with , ideally in perfect condition but that's just not happening. I have purchased a few from the same company just to see how their quality are, as cute as they are . I don't see myself spending so much on plastic
@Baby_Creamcheese - have you checked Dollyteria? They don't upcharge blind box bjds usually, seems like they have quite a few from Simontoys (not sure if any are Liloro but it's worth browsing)
Thankyou ,I will look there ! I didn't even know that site haha as I stated I have been out of the hobby forever . I only know to come here or the bay, and the m place lol( I am not sure if we r allow to mention them )
Just got in a Luluya Symphonic Poem box today and got the girl I really wanted! (also no tariff charge so double yey! ) link She's so adorable and her quality is awesome! I thought for sure she'd just wear her heart hands but because of her longer hair piece on the one side it's hard to get the hands lined up nice, so I'll probably swap them out. I want to put her in all kinds of ballet poses, but she needs a stand first. lol
@Akai Okami she’s so pretty! Congratulations on getting the one you wanted! I decided to get another Past in Sicily guy and got the same one! Guess my good luck was too strong, ha, ha. I’m going be responsible and return him. I really wanted a different one, and can’t justify the cost to keep a repeat (in case someday I actually change his hair color). I got him on Amazon, so it will be easy to return. Still a little disappointed, but oh well. Maybe I will wait for a Luluya Symphonic girl.
I finally got around to getting stands for The Horde (even though I ended up still being a couple short) so, Behold My Insanity: I'd like to at some point get some risers or something so everybody's on different levels, some of them kind of get lost in the crowd. Inevitably there will be more, I am nothing if not a sucker for A Little Guy. I have so many tiny hands now.
Nice set up! Omg all the extra tiny hands. I'm tempted to fill a jar and display like some weird art piece. XD
I have all my extra bits in tackle boxes. Having tiered stands is very nice for the tiny dolls. I was buying acrylic stands but lately I am just 3D printing them.
I like Flambeau's "Tuff Tainer" boxes with the moveable dividers. These tiny boxes I got off Aliexpress are also handy for like tiny eyeballs and tiny s-hooks. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805010031506.html I bought a lot of extra s-hooks because if I drop one I am never finding it again lol
@Chameleon Would love to hear what you think of the Nyssa series! I'm still on the fence about purchasing them especially after hearing about some quality control issues with this line.
Conveniently, I just devoted mine today, and they look great! I definitely prefer inset eyes to painted eyes, I think. The outfits are all quite nicely made, especially on the hidden girl, and they’re less top-heavy than 10,000 realms so they stand better! Quite nice!!!
I had some for a while; I had the penny's box first versions, Centaurs and Mermaids, and one of the Bonnie Bunnies by the artist. I like the idea of small BJS that people can afford, but there were so many, and I got overwhelmed, so I sold all of mine at a doll show.
I've recently become obsessed with these and finally decided to get some - I ordered two blind boxes of the Lulu Elf Story dolls!!! Apparently they ship in September or October? Lol, one of the things I was keen on was not having to wait the super long time you have when you order a BJD... and then I HAD to decide a preorder was my favorite. Oh well! There were a lot I liked, but I felt I'd be happy with any of the choices in that lot, and I really liked the idea of a blind box! Looking forward to their eventual arrival!!!
I got my Sugary Girls blind box today! I really wanted Alice, but when I opened Violetta she stole my heart!
Ooh congratulations!!! That’s a set I was also considering, it’s so cute!!! Would love to see pictures!!!
Here ya go! She's sitting next to my Harold and I think they're gonna become quite good mischievous friends!
Thinking about buying one but can't decide on which...I've been looking at ones on AliExpress since they are having a sale right now.
I was kind of bad and got another sugary girls box on Monday. She's the one I wanted this time so I'm super happy with her! And I even got her to stand for the few seconds it took to take this photo!
I just bought one of the Sugary Girls as an early birthday gift to myself. I'm not a huge fan of the whole blind box thing and never liked any enough to get an open box one, but the Sugary Girls are so stinking cute! I love the shape of their bodies and that's what actually sold me. I could have chosen a specific one, but they're all cute enough that I couldn't decide and just chose random. Here's hoping she comes quickly and that she fits some of the tiny clothes I have lying around (recently sold all my dolls that fit them to buy a grail lol)
I decided to bodyswap my Come4Free Minty Fantasy Forest 1/8th girl to the new Penny's Box 1/8th body after falling in love with the body, so here's some comparisons: Spoiler: More photos and a ramble under cut The Minty Fantasy Forest body is very pretty but it came with wire in the joints--which some folks love but I dislike. I removed the wire in the legs/torso and probably shouldn't have due to how she struggles to stand or keep any pose. You might notice in some of the pictures that the body's torso is angled oddly and that's due to being strung too tightly, I could fix that but I just don't like the body enough to go through the process with such a tiny doll. I left the wire in her arms, which due to how small the stringing holes are, causes the hand hook to come undone sometimes, which is also frustrating to me. I possibly could fix this by trimming the wire or finding a thinner wire, but again, I just don't like the body to go through this trouble. However I LOVE the Yaoyao/Cat's face and faceup and the unpainted Taowan/Rabbit's hair I got from someone who got the preorder freebies. Their design is soooo cute and so very detailed. I got the Penny's Box 1/8th body from Kikagoods, and it has a large bust which I don't think any of the Luluya Symphonic Poem girls do, but I actually like that. It adds a little more diversity of body shape to my tiny dolls. The skintone doesn't match perfectly, although not sure it shows well in the photos but the Minty body has a more pinky tone to the more neutral/yellow tone of the Penny's Box body. However it's very slight and not bothersome to me. I swapped the neck attachments and you may spot in the final images that the Minty head is a little bobblehead on the Penny's Box neck and naked she looks a bit giraffe-y, but with clothes it's unnoticeable to me and a lot of these blindbox dolls have such heavy hair that they also have similar head movement issues anyway so I don't mind it. All in all, I think it was a good purchase and on her new body she looks VERY cute to me and has a LOT better movement now. The Penny's Box 1/8th bodies stay in poses a lot better for me and don't feel nearly as fragile in my giant hands. They seem sturdier and stand amazingly even without any wire. They don't have the problem of collapsing under their own weight like the Minty body and just need a stand for security, not for literally holding them up. My only issue is shoes. The Minty's shoes do not fit the Penny's Box 1/8th body with its larger feet. So I might end up steal the feet and putting her in forever socks to hide the mismatch. I think as long as the skintone isn't too different, I might swap other 1/8th girls to this body. This girl might now be one of my favorites among all my tiny dolls. This body is such a joy to dress and pose. I'm posting this mainly so people can see the differences between the different bodies, NOT to dissuade people from buying Minty Fantasy Forest BJDs as like I said above, they're very pretty dolls with wonderful designs (and I might even get more of them), just the body isn't my vibe but there could be ways to improve it for myself if I put the time into it. Spoiler: Bonus comparison between Penny's Box 1/8th body and Doll Leaves's 20cm Laura As you can see, I STILL haven't given my poor Laura a faceup, but I obviously adore this size of doll. I don't think the skintones match well enough as Laura has yellowed quite a bit, but this is an idea I may or may not go forward with. Laura's original body is much taller but ironically she's the same height as my blindbox 1/8th girls due to how huge their heads are. My Laura doesn't fit in stylistically with the other 20cm blindbox girls with their very anime proportions, so she often is left out of my collection displays sadly. Not sure which body I prefer style-wise, but the Penny's Box body is still much nicer to pose than the Doll Leaves 20cm one. I did debate getting her an Asleep Eidolon 20cm body, but never got around top hunting one down. Her face sculpt is still as beautiful as ever.
