I have more girl dolls than boys. At first, when i got into the hobby, i thought, i would only collect girl dolls, because i just didn’t know what to do with the boys xD But then, I got my first boy doll and fell in love. Now I have 2 boys and one on his way home :^)
I do. I prefer girl dolls to boy dolls. I do love looking at boy dolls and following accounts that are mainly boy dolls but any time I buy one I just cant bond with them. I'm not sure why that is and I wish I could bond with the boys. Maybe one day I will find one that changes that for me, but until then I'm girls girls girls all the way down.
It's tempting to say I'm more drawn to female dolls since I've owned more of them, but at the same time that wasn't always by choice. Unfortunately a lot of the male dolls I've been drawn to were either too expensive or too big, or both But my grail is a male doll and ideally, I think it would be fun to own the same number of both.
Girls. All of my dolls save one (who is an androgenous tiny angel thing and has no gender) are girls. Eventually I'd like to get a couple of male dolls to turn into specific characters, but I've yet to find one who I want bad enough to buy.
I only like male dolls, I've no preference for females and most their sculpts look the same to me. I find male dolls much more attractive, interesting to look at and fun to make into characters. Some female sculpts are pretty but I never really connect with any of them. As to why; I really just like (fictional) handsome guys.
Honestly, right now my doll preference is exclusively boys—specifically lanky male bodies. I gravitate towards 60-72” sculpts. Not super into muscular ones but maybe my tastes will change in the future. I do have hope that some day I’ll be able to find a girl sculpt that suits a character I have in mind, but for now it’s just me and the boys!
I was more 50/50 but through the years I realised that I prefer girls because I can play more with clothing but I also like boys or androgynous sculpts
I personally prefer feminine dolls as I feel like they are easier to style and have a lot of variety in their face sculpts/body types.
My preference is girl's. I like dressing my dolls in outfits I think are cute but couldn't pull off myself. But I did order one boy doll this year, so maybe that'll change.
I have about 50/50. Funny, story, tho: my first doll was a B&G Rin that I thought was a girl. I got quite a surprise when I opened the box and found a male. But I fell in love with him and later discovered the girl version was Natalie. My boys tend towards androgynous. The girls tend toward more feminine styles. Sam, my Volks F19 (female body) dresses as a boy. As to why, my purchases have nothing to do with gender. I buy sculpts I like then dress them to their liking.
Originally when I started my idea was to have more like 50/50, but I got quite disappointed with the first boy I had in the sense I didn't know how to style him or what to do with him and his body was a nightmare and after selling him I decided to not have more male dolls, so for maaany years I had none, not only because of the experience but also because I couldn't find any that I liked enough to try again, that is until 2017 when I fell in love with one and I decided to see if this time it worked... and it worked and I'm very happy with him and since then I've been more attracted to the idea of having more male dolls. So maybe eventually I will get to the 50/50 I originally had in mind.
I didn't always want all female-presenting dolls, but somehow I've grown to have no interest in owning a male doll. I love looking at them! I just don't see one fitting into my collection, at least not in 1/4 scale and I feel like I have no ideas for them. Had I started collecting much earlier and had space for bigger dolls, I'd 100% have acquired some specific sculpts like a bunch of DoD boys and a MD Ryu, but I feel like my preferences have also changed a lot through the years so I'm not sure how happy I would be with them. I am, surprisingly to myself, really happy with my girl gang, though.
I mostly have girl dolls. It's not that I dislike boys, but I love making little dresses and cute leggings, and while a boy doll CAN wear whatever you want to put him in, a girl doll in a dress raises fewer awkward questions from the mundanes.
Tbh all the dolls I'm interested in right now are girls. I will probably feel tempted to buy a male one some time in the future, but right now I'm all about the girlies lol
It's crazy...or I am! Most of my dolls are female and I prefer male dolls! I have a hard time ordering male bjds. I don't know why. I love them and enjoy the ones I have. I want more boys but find more girls to bring home then boys. It's easier at this point, they can share clothes and wigs. I'm limited in what my boys have to wear. Maybe, I should start to prioritize them...hmm
When I first started I only collected boys! Now I only have one girl haha. The girls sadly do have nicer fashion options though! Much like real life in that regard. I think prefer androgynous dolls for the best of both worlds. A doll that can be seen as either or.
Well I was going to say "I can't think of any reason I'd ever get a male doll"... but then I immediately thought of a bunch of possible reasons That having been said, for the time being I only plan on getting female dolls: my plans all revolve around cute outfits, and I'm just not into "men's fashion." The exceptions might be: male ballet dancer, and chibi versions of my OC's.
My first BJD was a girl—Minifee Eva—because I was drawn in by the gorgeous wig and fashion options for female dolls. Eva's a sweet sculpt, but I just never ended up bonding with her I still have her . . . considered selling her, but lately I'm thinking I'll put her head on a male body, give her a new faceup (or commission one) and style her as a boy! Love me a slightly androgynous boy! Ultimately I just bond infinitely more with my boys! Every doll I've gotten since Eva has been male (or a female doll I styled as a male in the case of TinyFox Cherrie). Definitely intend to continue only collecting male dolls, including some with face sculpts intended to be female.
Hmm... Only girls. But that's simply been because of availability. The brands I like are hard to get male dolls in.
I tend to prefer girl dolls because there are more options for makeup, hair, and clothing, but I’m not opposed to having an over-the-top stylized and feminine boy doll. I also love the idea of a nonbinary or gender neutral doll, since a lot of tinies are made to appear genderless.
I’ve only ever had girl dolls, since I was a kid. Never wanted Kens or anything. I don’t know why – I have plenty of male friends, so it’s not like I hate the whole gender. I guess I just find women more aesthetically appealing, or feel like I have more options with female characters? (it would be overly simplistic to say “it’s because I’m a lesbian,” because I’m sure there are gay women who collect male dolls. But as a casual joke… Yeah. )
Lol... I'm bi but have always preferred female dolls, female characters on TV, had mostly female OC's, etc. Sometimes I wonder what this says about me...
I make the same joke!! I have… 5 male dolls and one of them, the character is nonbinary, so they don’t even count as a man! Comparatively I think I have 40 female dolls by now
That makes a lot of sense actually.... I really like looking at boys and that's probably why they make up a majority of my crew (if one doesn't count the Azone fashion dolls then they make up the entirety of my doll family hehe)!
I def prefer collecting exclusively female bjds. My guess is because I find women more attractive then men, although I am pan and married to a guy lol. I just enjoy dressing femme dolls up more and creating stories for them more.
Prefer girls because I enjoy styling and making stuff for them way, way more. Though even if I didn't I'm not sure I would have more than the 2 boys I have now anyway, as it's really rare that I come across a male face sculpt that I like, let alone it being sold attached to a body that I don't aesthetically dislike too much (I don't want to have to hybrid, so).
I started out heavily preferring female/feminine dolls, however now I have a heavy male preference which I find really interesting! Part of it could be that I identify as male now and therefore am more drawn to masculine dolls, or I just flip-flop with my preferences I think part of what changed it for me was realizing that just because a doll was male didn't mean it had to be dressed in a traditionally masculine way, which was/is definitely hand-in-hand with my gender identity/self-discovery, which I think is pretty cool.
I have a strong bias towards male dolls only. I did order two girls, but they are undergoing modification to make them both boys (I bought them with the intention to do this). I wont really delve into why but my boys dolls were always my favorite as a kid so its really just being carried over from that.
I prefer girls, because I find dressing them more delightful. Also I just generally like cute girly things I do keep the door open for some cutesy boys too, but it's mostly girls here. I used to prefer men, but that was heavily based on the internalized misogyny I had at the time, and I didn't really bond with any of my manly dolls at the time. We live and learn, eh?
Definitely a very strong male bias on my end. I'm asexual/aromantic so it isn't necessarily out of attraction, I just find the male form more appealing, if that makes any sense?
I have both, but mostly gravitate towards male sculpts. Clothes are more fun for girl dolls, but my boys tend to be characters.
My BJDs are all males, with the exception of 2 tinies and 2 of my anthros, which are strongly outnumbered by the boys. I collect other dolls such as vintage dolls, Barbie and MH, so I get my fix of girlie fashion with those, and can enjoy dressing my boys and developing male characters with my BJDs.
I definitely prefer girls and I have found that even through I am not into girly stuff for myself, I do love to dress my girls up. I do have some boys but it's not quite the same.
I tend to gravitate more toward female sculpts these days, although I'm not sure why. I have a handful of non-binary characters as well but that's not really determined by the sculpt for the most part.
I heavily prefer male dolls. Feminine styling on any front has never been my thing. The aesthetics associated just suit my taste.
I have mainly male dolls and my first doll was a Dollshe Bernard. My favorite size is 70cm although I’ve recently fallen in love with the 65cm range after getting my Soom Sard. Out of the 25 dolls I have here there are 4 ladies and I’d actually like some more but I wish there were a few more companies that offered more mature 1/3 ladies!
I generally prefer female dolls, as I find them to be more fun to dress up, do faceups on, etc. However, I do enjoy a good pretty boy elf doll, currently have 2 that are different incarnations of Link from The Legend of Zelda
I tend to prefer girls, maybe because face up and wigs, and outfits options. However, I really want to buy couple boys also, or even more, I think they are also really cute.
I am a girl doll collector! I can admire boy dolls but feminine clothing and bodies are just the best .
in my wishlisting, I've definitely noticed i have a strong preference for boy or androgynous dolls - sort of follows my general OC preferences (as well as my personal gender situation), so I'm not really surprised! I absolutely LOVE historic and fantasy men's clothes so Im excited for the outfits I can put together for my first doll when he finally arrives he's gonna be such a little dandy lol
When I first discovered the hobby, I dreamt about owning a bunch of boys, which was sort of "in vogue" at the time. However, I've managed to end up with a collection that is heavily, heavily female. One of my girls is even a male event head on a female body! I do have a couple of boy dolls on my wishlist, though even if I get them, they still won't come anywhere close to evening out the ratio. I'm bisexual and agender, so it's not like I believe in the socially determined boundaries of gender and sex anyway, and I'm married to a man, so I certainly don't dislike men. I've just always found that I have an easier time bonding with girl dolls than boy dolls.
Female dolls. I like esthetics. I don't project identity on a doll. To me, they're dolls and they look pretty. Females are pretty/feminine and beautiful to look at. So I can do the most to get the look and esthetic I envision beauty to be, on a female doll. I'm a girly girl. The most boring thing on the planet I'm my mind, is to dress a man, Lmao! Sorry men....
This explains why I like historical men's clothes (Pre-Industrial Revolution specifically) so much more than modern men's clothes........ And why my boys dress so girlish despite wearing more modern stuff mostly!
I mean, plain t-shirts and straight legged jeans. Anything else kind of beats that, lol. But I also just love the female body. It's shape is so fluid and flowing, compared to the more boxy nature of a males body. Don't get me wrong, I'm married to a man. But esthetically, I think women are just prettier to look at, lol!
I really like male BJDs but I’m a more picky with how I want them to look! Like I could buy pretty much any female bjd and be happy, but male bjds are more of a hit or miss for me
I only collect girls I think other people's boy dolls are cute and cool, but I was never interested in boy dolls as a child.
When I first got into dolls guys were out of the question, then I considered a few cute pretty boy sculpts, and then I just went further and further and now I really only focus on male sculpts! Now the most I will do with a girl doll is I will customize a female head, put it on a boy body and make them a male character. I totally have a preference that I never would have thought of! Male dolls all the way for me
I used to have a preference for female dolls, but now I prefer to get male dolls. I like both types of dolls, but I have an easier time finding male dolls with designs and aesthetics that I like.
I think I will always have girls! Girls are just so pretty and I enjoy more feminine fashion options. Never say never though....
I think I lean more towards male bjds since a lot more of my OCs were male, but I also really like how girl bjds look so I started to shell some of my female OCs too. I'm getting my first 2 girls soon and I've been so excited for them! I already bought a lot of clothes, shoes, and created mock ups of their face ups. I feel like as time goes on my collection with have plenty of both with a slight skew towards more boys maybe.
I feel I've been all over the board with this, but I'd say I mostly lean towards male dolls. Currently at about 34% girls, so definitely the minority here. I think a big part of the draw of this hobby was the boys for me. Growing up, I was always so unhappy with every single boy doll I saw. I just hated them all and never wanted any. So when I saw BJD for the first time, my jaw dropped at how beautiful they were...and wait is that a boy?!! The need was instant. If we go a bit deeper, most of my boys lean towards a more traditionally feminine look. I feel it was something I was looking for but could never quite find until I found BJD's. Honestly, I just got my first girl doll out of some strange need to have variety. I love her, and my other girls, but I know if I need to sell any...they will likely be some of the first on the list.
Updating about 2 years later... it's a pretty masculine household here. Boys outnumber girls more than 2 to 1, and the two girls are masculine headsculpts. Everyone wears masculine-tending-to-gender-neutral clothes. The girls are mainly pants-wearers though one will wear the occasional skirt; the most femme of the boys is femme only in a few traits, and he also wears only pants. Clothing-wise, I guess I've never been interested in putting any doll into a dress, regardless of their gender. I love the norms of (A)BJDs and the BJD community, because here you can get dolls that did not have to wear dresses all the time! You can have masculine dolls wearing fabulous masculine clothes - what a revelation! This hobby was liberating to me. I still want to try having a girly girl, though, for diversity's sake and for exploring the Other -- and a feminine-dressing girl is very much an "Other" to me. If I ever get a third girl, the plan is to keep her in dresses most of the time. We'll see how it goes...
girls all the way! i've always preferred girl dolls over boys, i just don't find male dolls all that interesting. i would probably just end up dressing boy dolls the same way i do my girls, so why even bother
I currently only have boy dolls at the moment but I’d like some girls to join my family! I do think I have a tendency to be drawn to boy dolls more though.
I had to think about that one. I think I have about 50 boys and 40 girls, give or take. (I tried counting them, but I lost count a few times and gave up!)
I greatly prefer female dolls or feminine-presenting dolls. I know realism has more variety than stylistic, but I like the latter more and the male ones in that category are very same face-y. That, and I just like feminine aesthetics more. Currently, I only own girls, but I have caught an eye for a special boy out there!
I never thought of it as a preference, but most of my dolls were and are "boys". Perhaps because I like contrasts and interested in the aesthetics of the male graceful body or male fashion. I dreamed of starting to sew myself, realizing my ideas, but more often, I buy ready-made clothes or order from dressmakers. Now I want a female character, but it is hard to choose, as they are all cute. Probably the last thing I regret is that I bought a separate androgyny head and a male body, but after realizing that see the character as a girl)))
I have only boys, Girl dolls are very pretty but... I just like boys more. So far I have found only one girl doll that I liked so much, that I thought about buying it, but I didn't, because she was limited and i dont have money.
