Personally I think I don't have any preference for any gender. However, I've just boys. But, I don't understand your second question, what does mean the "is" ?
Initially, I thought I only wanted boys. Nowadays, I seem to prefer girls more. It really depend on the sculpts I come across with. If there is an influx of girl dolls that I really like, I tend to buy more girls. Likewise, if more boy sculpts are being released and I fancy their faces, I tend to buy more boy dolls. I go with the flow.
Why do you think you prefer one gender over another? Sorry I'm finding I'm not attracted to the males right now. Girls, girls, girls...just like the song.
I have all boys. I don't know why, but I'm not as interested in girls. I'm a tomboy, I don't have any interest in girly clothes, hair or make up on me, so I guess that carries over to my dolls. I find the tiny boy clothes and shoes cute! (Must stop buying boots...) Also, I prefer looking at men in general so in terms of faces that appeal to me, that's possibly part of it.
Somehow it happened that I only have boys. It has bothered, now I want buy a girl and to sew dresses for her)
Spuggy I'm a tomboy too and maybe that's why I'm attracted to the girls. I can live my girly fashion dreams vicariously through them (and at a much more reasonable price than dressing myself the same way).
I prefer the boys because it's rare when it comes to dolls. I think the only kind of doll that has a variety of male dolls are BJDs. I have yet to see other dolls than Ken. I'm not completely against the thought of buying girl dolls though. But I'd rather spend the cute clothes on me if ever. Lol
I have a huge favoritism on girls, and only own girl BJDs. I guess it's because i have always been into fashion dolls, I just love buying them cute dresses, changing their hair, etc!
Most of my dolls are girls. But as I also have boys, I can't say if I actually have a favorite now. It is easier to find "girl" clothes for the doll sizes I prefer.
I have both male and female dolls (as well as a few who are neither-) in my collection, but the guys have always made up the majority. They currently outnumber the gals by about 3 to 1. o_0 Why? It's not because I have anything against girl dolls... I have every bit as much fun with them as I do with my guys... It's just that I'm much, much pickier about them. Not only do I have to like both the head and body sculpts, but they have to "match" well in terms of apparent age and physical maturity. I can mentally work around a boyish male face on a ripped muscle-dude body a lot more easily than I can tolerate a very child-like little-girl face on a boob-a-palooza grown-up woman's bod... and, unfortunately, there are an awful lot of girl dolls out there that have that face/body disconnect. That's really limited the number of girls I could add to the crew over the years.
Nothing wrong with that at all. My interest in menswear would be on the historic side only to be honest.
I prefer male sculpts as I like their fashions more, and I also find their shoes fascinating (even in RL). I do have three females just so I can dress them up cute (one Dollfie Dream, one yosd, & one anthro). Mostly what Spuggey said about liking to look at males!
I want a mix of both girls and boys. I don't have a doll as of yet, however my first one will be a girl. I don't know yet if I will have more girls than boys like I do with many other things, because there is such a large degree of customization that the clothes for boys would not restrict the kind of styles that I would want them to potentially have.
I have twice as many boys as I have girls, but the girls are spoiled with a wardrobe and shoe selection that is far greater. The guys have half a dresser drawer of clothing; the girls have two and a half.
I have both. I think I do a better job at styling girls. They have more hairstyles and beautiful dresses! Also the shoes and socks...
Girls. I thought I'd only have boys, but I have the worst time finding wigs I like for them. I also like to sew, but am not very good lol, so I find it hard to make guy clothes. Dresses, at least the simple ones, are much easier. It's all about practicality for me.
When I downsized my doll collection, I only kept my four Fairyland60 girls. Then I quickly added three Volks girls. But of course that did not satisfy me (I have a little bit of a compulsive-obsessive disorder) so I decided to keep my Illusion Spirit boy (that was for sale) and I ordered a Luts Senior Delf Abadon, 'cause I thought he was very attractive! After following someone on Instagram, who has a Granado doll, I ordered a Granado Jaden (gorgeous face). I am also getting my Iplehouse Bichun back from my daughter, who had sort of kidnapped him! I guess what I am trying to say is that I am starting to like the male doll more - their faces and yes, their bodies! I seriously have "crushes" on some male sculpts! Maybe it's just I don't need any more females!
Starting the hobby, I only wanted boys because I had so many various female dolls growing up--fashion dolls, baby dolls, little girl dolls, mini figures--but so few boys, and the few I did have looked so much alike, it was incredibly boring. Once I got into BJDs, I thought I'd order a few custom boys, and just stick with my other female dolls. Now, I've definitely been preferring female dolls over the last year. There are just so many fun clothing and shoe options for girls! Currently, of my human dolls, I have 12 boys and 9 girls, and of my pet dolls I have 2 boys and 4 girls, which is more balanced than I've ever been since starting the hobby. I feel like the scales may start tipping on the girl side more in the next year or two.
Originally, I had thought I'd only be buying male dolls. I have 90% male characters as I, myself, identify as male. However, I decided to order a female doll as I thought it would be good to have a female character for a change as well as be able to dress her as I would dress if I were female. (I'm gender queer with a heavy male lean. I'm weird, I know.) I have issues about my own self image as well as body issues and so would never dress the way I'll be dressing her. I also have anxiety about dressing like a female. I know. I'm weird. :<
I think this describes my interest as well. I love all the different options for girl dolls. My experience is very limited so far, but I haven't found a male sculpt I really like.
I'm pretty equal. 5 boys and 5 girls. Only one couple in the group. I didn't plan them out that way, they're just who I ended up with.
99% of all my dolls are male. If we are talking only from a bjd perspective it's 100% boys & will only be boys and mostly 70cm+ boys.
before getting my first doll, i've always wanted a bunch of boy dolls, but i find myself liking girl dolls a lot more now that i have one of my own
I prefer boys because I'm trying to find sculpts to that match my two story characters. I plan to expand my novel with photo-stories on my website and feel like I would be too distracted with female dolls. The temptation to play with them like I did in my youth would be too great!
I only have girls right now and I don't see that changing any time in the near future. I'm a male and I'm straight so girl dolls are aesthetically pleasing to me. Plus I'm not inspired by male fashion at all. I'd rather shop for cutesy dresses and casual cute girl styles any day. They don't work for me in real life but it's fun making my dolls cute
I have a male-bent bias with mine it seems. I have plans for (and have gotten) both, but I find myself more interested in searching out boys over the girls more often than not. Part of it might be because of the over-saturation of female dolls growing up. Part of it could be my distaste for a lot of those dolls, like Barbie and baby dolls, as a kid. It also is because I find the male bodies more versatile from my personal experience. A lot of the males bodies are better posers, and are engineered to be that. I've noticed a lot of male bodies either come with three-part torsos by default or as an option. With girls, however, two and one part torsos are much more common. And those aren't very flexible. They pose prettily, but don't achieve a variety of natural poses. To me, it seems like a lot of the girl bodies are designed for modeling, to take I'm pretty kinds of photo-shoots instead of I'm a badass and I'm going to show you exactly why that is photo-ops. Aesthetics and being pretty over action photos, in other words, and most of my characters (female) aren't meant to be pin-up girls or pretty princesses. Most are fairly athletic, and decently flexible. It unnerves me a bit that I can't find girl bodies to meet those needs. At least, not near as easily as the boys anyways. I'm also a bit of a tomboy, but I don't have any desires to live out girly fantasies through my bjds. I have a sexy dresser who focuses on her looks, but the others are either tomboys or prefer to dress professionally (feminine, but with a more androgynous, masculine slant). I have some leaning towards androgynous boys, but none that are so much so they could easily be mistaken for girls. I guess, what I'm saying is...I like me some men
I'm completely uninterested in boys (which is weird to say as I'm a straight female myself). They don't have as many fashion styles as the girls and I really love the cutesy look for girls. I also love the bombshell look, and lets be honest, girls just have more vavavoom for that. I will also admit, the male genitalia is a turn off for me. I've never been enamored with genitalia on dolls to begin with and boy dolls are a lot more detailed than the girls in that area.
I don't really have a preference, it just depends on the character I want to do. Currently I am working on finishing up two girl dolls that represent my daughters. Then I'll make one to represent me and my husband. I am also interested in getting a couple boys and a girl for other characters I have in my mind. I kind of use the dolls as more of a way to express myself, so both genders can used for that purpose.
My on-topic dolls are about equally divided into guys and gals. Gals: 6 (4 SD, 1 MSD, 1 1/6th scale, but +3 off topic female dolls) Guys: 6 (5 SD, 1 MSD) The odd one out is agender (?) nonbinary (?) its unclear. The one caveat is that unlike my guys, who are all intended to be boy sculpts, I have two girls who are intended to be boy sculpts (LLT Roderich and Simply Divine Harlequin). So sculpt-wise, I seem to have a clear preference for boy faces (9 intended to be boy sculpts: 4 intended to be girl sculpts). I think it's because their eyes are smaller, in general (boy sculpts from the same company and same line tend to have smaller eyes than the girls), and because I feel in some ways that the masculine beauty ideal in BJDs (for whatever reason, whether this be unique to BJDs or representative of a larger social issue--I tend to favor the latter explanation) is less rigid (there's more variety in "attractive" features. (I like my Roman/Aquiline noses, my cleft chins, my substantial jaws, and I don't particularly think my preferences are restricted to one sex or gender among humans--just resin dolls [Tonner in particular likes heavy jaws and even slight cleft chins in female sculpts, as does Poppy Parker]).
I tend to like girl dolls best, no idea, I guess just because I find the female perspective nicer to be around? Though my one MSD girl is going to be pretty boyish, I don't think she will wear much that is extremely girly and I'm getter her short hair along with a big hoodie and jeans. I thought I would get guys too, but I think I'll just have girls in many different styles.
I have both, although the males outnumber the females 4:1. I collect non-BJD dolls as well though, and the numbers are flipped for them, so if I consider them all together it's probably an equal 50/50 split. As to why the BJDs are so heavily weighted to the males, I think it's because in so many other doll types there are fewer male options that I just appreciate the options more.
Girls are the 4/5 of my doll collection right now and I only have plans for more girl dolls. I have one boy but I have nothing against them, in fact it is because I'm totally a nitpick when it comes to how a guy should look like, dress, and everything. I find it really hard to have one to my liking and dressing him while sticking with MSDs and smaller sizes.
I want an even mix of girls and boys! heh xD Because I dont have preexisting characters I just buy mine for the looks and so far I have a girl (off-topic which I count in my collection) and one boy on-topic hehe My next will be another girl on-topic and the other after I hope to be a boy (off-topic) hahah xD
When I started into the hobby I only liked Doll boys .... but recently I like girly dolls too ^__^ ...
The dolls that I'm planning to get for sure all are boys...but I love looking at female clothing choices and will probably end up getting a girly if only to indulge in all the lovely dresses!
I like both but I would say boys the sculpt of the boys are soooo good which I didn't expect that when I joined the hobby it's hard to find a sculpt I really want of the girls .
My first BJD was (is) a boy (becuase I thought I'd only ever get one BJD - ha ha! - and boy dolls are;/were less common tan girl dolls) but I have over 50 BJDs now and girls outnumber boys. I think this is largely because I find boy clothes a lot less fun and interesting (and even less so to make, since I can rarely find the styles I want for my dolls available to buy). Teddy
All boys. FEMALE DOLLS SCARE ME! No, I'm just kidding. I've just always liked boy dolls more. In this hobby, I feel like boy dolls are easier. I also have a few boy bjds dressed girlish but thats as far as I'll go. And I like the sculpts for boy dolls more.
When I first started out I planned to have all boys but after getting my first one which was a boy, and then my second which was a girl now I'm not sure. I have 2 girls and only 1 boy now but I really want another boy as well.
I now have 28 and all are male. I do have a couple of very feminine boys who cross dress and some have a female head sculpt in my crew though. I like to shell characters and all my major OCs are male as well as the non original characters. I also find males more attractive and feel comfortable with them.
I'm partial to female sculpts myself! I just think they look so soft and elegant. I really love some of the male sculpts I've found, but I almost always gravitate towards girls! That being said, I don't actually have any just yet (my Doll Leaves Yoko is on her way), so that opinion might change down the road.
I prefer girl dolls, but I do have boy dolls. The reason that I prefer to buy girl dolls is that there is greater choice in clothing and shoes.
I much prefer female dolls and I don't have plans to ever buy a male doll. I'm drawn to cute/ stylized dolls with mature bodies, and I don't like the pretty look that boys in that style have. When I look at more masculine male sculpts, especially SD sized ones, I feel uneasy. And it's not that their male anatomy makes me uncomfortable, because I'm used to that from taking nude figure drawing classes in college. I think the uneasiness most likely stems from past trauma I've experienced. Anyway, I love women's fashion and the ethereal/ elegant look that female dolls have. When I visualize my future collection, I don't see male dolls fitting. I like looking at other people's boys, but I think they are not for me. And who knows, I might end up changing my mind eventually. Maybe I just haven't found the right boy doll
I prefer having male characters but female dolls. The reason for this is that I just can't find any male dolls that I love and don't look too girly, so I usually only buy girls.
Right now I'm leaning more towards boy dolls, because the characters I want to make are all boys, and I'm not yet comfortable considering purchasing a BJD without some sort of plan behind it. But I've seen so many cute girl sculpts that it'll probably be a 50/50 split for me eventually....!!
Currently I find myself making plans for mostly female dolls, at least in terms of the bodies I get the sculpts - I really want males and (and androgynous dolls but bodies like that are harder to come by) but their bodies usually look stiffer and don't seem like they would be as fun to pose because of that!
At first I was prefer boys over girls, but now I prefer girls. The girls' dress are too pretty, I can't stop loving them.
I definitely prefer boys to girls. I have found girl dolls that are gorgeous and that I would like to own, but I usually fall in love with boy dolls. That being said, I feel like it's harder to find the right wigs and clothes for my boy dolls that fit their personalities.
Don't have my first doll yet but I think I will primarily have female dolls. Possibly a couple male ones if I really like their sculpts. I just enjoy the thought of making props and clothes more for females than males and I have more ideas for females. My only characters at the moment are also only female, so I am buying dolls to fit them first
At this point I'd say I lean toward boys, given that I've got one girl doll and all the rest of the dolls I'm planning to buy are boys.
For me I definitely have a preference its girls. I don't know I just can't find any male sculpts that I like. Plus since a lot of my dolls are based off my ocs which happen to be girls.
