Esthetics Freckles on Body?

Jul 20, 2022

    1. I probably have to do a face-up commission for the girl I'd like to buy, so I was wondering, is it even possible to paint freckles on the shoulders of dolls? If it is, can you provide pictures of it? Thanks again in advance :)
      P.S: The face-up commission I'm requesting freckles already, I just wanted it to make a little more sense for her to have the freckles.

    2. Why shouldn't it be possible? ;)
      The biggest issue you will have is with the paintjob rubbing off on the shoulders when you try to pose the arms. Once the shoulder joints move inside the socket, you're at risk of scratching and rubbing it off.

      If you want those freckles, make sure to suede the inside of the shoulder sockets with suede leather. That way it's soft, padded and protects the paintjob. Also helps a little with posing.

      Additionally, cover the neck when sealing. Otherwise the head will scrape it all off the moment you put it back on and start it moving. I usually tape off the area the head sits on. You can then add a little suede to the head socket as well.

    3. I see, how exactly do you add the suede to the inside? If you don't feel like explaining it, I also can go read about it if it's in like tutorials. I found like two examples out in the internet and given that logic I see why almost no one does it A pity, since it looks really cool.

    4. I have two dolls with freckled body blushing.
      It has held up well. But I don't move those dolls about & reposition them much. They are among my steampunk clan & wear lots of clothes so the freckles are rarely seen except around the upper chest, neck, lower arms & hands. In both cases I bought them second hand already freckled & loved their unique blushing. That would be the thing to consider: how much of the body will be visible & what kind of photography are you planning before going to the time & expense. ;}

    5. You can always do the freckling where it will not be disturbed by moving joints. Body blushing do tend to get a lot of wear and rub off after a while though, so prepare to redo it much more often than you redo a faceup. It is worth it though, especially for photographs, since it gives so much life to the doll.

    6. Well I wasn't going to do a lot at first since I wasn't sure if I would like it and I'm very worried about doing like outdoor photography and a lot of posing. I do think I want to do a lot of different kinds of clothing to see what feels right and for different seasons.

    7. Thanks for the info, I was probably going to avoid the shoulder joints as well anyways.

    8. You take pieces of suede leather and glue them into the socket. It's pretty straightforward!

    9. I see, I hope I don't mess it up
