Contest Flight (Prop/Accessory)

Jul 2, 2009

    1. Congrats Teaspoons! Your entry was awesome!

XD I knew i didnt have a chance, but it was so fun to try anyway. The wings i made didn't turn out as well as i'd hoped, but i did them so last minute i didnt have a chance to try out another pair. I actually found that i was kicking myself for posting pics of the last pair of wings i'd made nearly a month before, since they came out so much better XD

SO many of the entries were so amazing, and i kept noticing more and more things each time i looked through. I couldn't pick a favorite at all! Everyones ideas were so great ^^

    5. Whoo, way to go Teaspoons!

I chronicled the process of creating my entry as a flickr set.

    6. Thanks so much...A ton of work went into fabricating all the metal pieces for the back plate, bending all the tubing for the plumbing, soldering the tank out of two pieces of copper pipe and some sheetmetal, and somehow measuring everything correctly on the first try! It's a bit embarrassing to admit the amount of time spent on them. It took more than a week of working on it almost every night after work and more than 20 hours just the night before the deadline to get it finished. I had planned to make wings for my steampunk girl for some time. This contest just provided the impetus to actually get started on the project.

I intend to post some better detail shots with explanations of the various parts in the gallery in the next few days. Unfortunately, I was really rushed getting my entry in on time (how dare my family come 700 miles to visit on the day the entries are due!) and after being up all night completing it, my photo skills were not at their best. I don't think the pictures I submitted really show off just how elaborate the construction of that backpiece really is.

      Here's a teaser pic: [IMG]

There were so many great entries! I'm really impressed by the creativity and the amount of work people put into this (Where do I get my own "efelant"?). It was a lot of fun! Thanks, DOA.

    7. Congrats Teaspoon!
All the entries were so fun to see- so creative!
Mine was the Airship Fisseldown, piloted by Pip the puki and her friend Mister Tibbles. There will be many photostories involving this airship, ho yes!
