Aesthetics First faceup in 6 years - would love some feedback!

May 13, 2018

    1. Hi there! I decided to take a couple pics before wiping faceup I did recently - my first attempt after being out of the hobby for 6 years :sweat Ignore the little chip beneath the right eye, I'm not sure how that happened. I'm going to be repainting her (and 2 other heads of mine) as soon as I have time, and would love some feedback to incorporate into future attempts!! Thank you :D

    2. Very nicely done! The only thing I would recommend is using a sharper pencil and a bit of a lighter hand with your water color pencils on the eyebrows. I'm very impressed on the shape of the eyebrows and lips. You seem to be doing very well!

    3. Fabulous faceup! You'll get right into the swing of things in no time at all! :D

I agree with bjdcustomizer123 on the sharper pencil as well! You could also use a click-pen eraser to help sharpen the underside of her brows as well and bring her eyebrows to a sharper point where they end! I would also suggest maybe adding juuust a little more texture to her lower lip, maybe using a lighter pink pencil or a very soft hand using a white!

Something that could also be fun: using a light hand, flick in some white lines/hairs at the beginning of her brow to add a little more dimension and interest. It could also help sharpen the look of your strokes!
Gosh, though, you've done an excellent job so far! It'll be great to see more of your faceups in the future!

    5. Wow she looks great!

    6. The lip, and general face blushing, are all so believable! Beautiful work.

    7. It's really beautiful! *-*
I just can agree to others who already mentioned using sharper pencils eventually so the lines especially in the eyebrows look thinner and more natural.

    8. I personally love the sketchy look you have with your style! It’s super beautiful.

You could sharpen the pencils a bit more to get a more delicate look. Also using a pencil similar to the blushing color in addition to the color used for the lashes helps blending the tips of the lashes in and often helps making it look more delicate, too.

Your blushing is so adorable. It gives me the impression of a calm character. Very natural.
Even though it’s a Javier blushing, it carries a lightness with it. Somehow, it reminds me of my own style.

    9. @bjdcustomizer123 @cocobeef @Tluderman77 @chuffedjunction @krill @NekoTenshi_Zion @OnlyPaintMode thank you all so much for the advice and encouragement! I'll try to keep the pencils sharper for sure. Also, there actually are a few strokes of white pencil in the eyebrows, but I was scared they'd be too obvious so I barely pressed down with the pencil and only did a couple strokes haha. I will definitely add some white/pink lines into the lips next time and add some shading into the eyelashes, I think that'd look really nice! And I tend to wear quite a bit of blush myself so I think that must translate into my faceups :XD:

    10. Personally, I love the eyebrows. I wish mine would come in that nice.

    11. WOW!! It's really great, cause it's your first in six years!! I love the lips and the eyelashes, she looks so natural :)

    12. Thank you @Bowhead and @Nill-chan23!

Here is a faceup I did yesterday. The lips turned out a bit messy in my opinion (I did them last, so I think I was just rushing because I'm stupid and wanted to be done ), but I think these eyebrows turned out less grainy. Also my first time trying freckles, and my first ever attempt at a male faceup! I didn't add shading to the eyelashes because I was afraid he might look too feminine for his character if I did, since Volks F-16s often make a good female sculpt too :sweat

    13. WOW! Amazing improvement! The freckles look amazing. I understand your impatients but remember faceups are a marathon not a sprint. If you feel yourself becoming impatient maybe walk away and read a book or do something else. Try to remember that great work takes time and persistance.

    14. This looks so good! I think once you go back over the lips to sharpen them up, it'll be a beautiful doll! The eyebrows also look really good - the hairs are so delicate and realistic. As well as the freckles. Good job!!!!

    15. I think it looks really good. The lips, I think, are my favorite part. I like the color and the texture. Only thing I would say is maybe see if you can sharpen the lines of the eyelashes, but I like how subtle they are and the shape of them is good.
