Aesthetics First Faceup - Critique please!

Mar 12, 2018

    1. I finally gathered the courage to wipe the faceup my girl came with when I bought her second hand, and to replace it with one that actually looks like her character. She will be a redhead and so I tried to coordinate her colouring to that. These photos are taken in natural light and have had no retouching/filtering, so I think the colours should be fairly true to life.

There are a few things I would do differently next time, but fresh eyes always see other things, so please tell me honestly what you think that I could improve!

    2. I would add 2-3 tiny separated hairs in front eyebrows to round their shape, the ends of eyebrows should be longer with hair tips growing down (the goal of eyebrows is to stop water and sweat and guide them out of eyes). Elongate a little the eyelid lines to follow the sculpt. And a eyeliner outer tip should be more visible, just a little.
All the rest is ok. The face-up has style and needs just a little touch-up. :)

    3. @Ves-chan Thank you so much for your comment! I totally see what you mean on all counts. I'll keep those things in mind and I think it will be a bit easier too once I find a smaller brush. (I know I have one, I just... misplaced it somewhere :doh )

    4. I find it to be a very solid effort for your first faceup, well done! My suggestion would be to not be afraid to mix colours and use a couple different shades to define and contour certain areas, but most importantly...just remember to have fun!

    5. @lilyindollyland Thank you for the compliment and the feedback :) I think I know what you mean, I'll try to be a bit more adventurous next time and see what I think of it!

    6. Oh that is adorable - I particularly like the natural looking eyeberows, but the whole thing is just the sort of faceup that appeals to me.

    7. Thank you so much @Teddy ! I was aiming for very natural so I'm glad that came across :)

    8. Looks pretty good for your first! Were you going to add eye lashes (non painted)? I recently finished my first face up, but sadly the weather took a turn for the worse. Now I have to wait to finish until I can go outside and spray her! Also the only other thing I might add is to bring your shading down from the eyes into the corner of the brow and some around the nose and nostrils. This tends to give your face up a little more depth!

    9. It looks really nice! I would make the eyebrows a teeny bit longer, but they look very realistic. So do the freckles, blushing, and eyelashes. I would personally make the lips a little bit lighter in color and sort of fade the color out more if that makes sense... but it looks really, really good!!

    10. @Cindilou02 - Yes! I'm just waiting for the eyelashes to arrive in the mail :) I looked around in local stores for just regular human ones, but they were more expensive and only black. Not much variety around here it seems. Totally see what you mean about that adding depth, I'll keep it in mind next time! I have a bunch more I need to do (four heads for a different doll *_* ) and will experiment there.

@prrrincess - I see what you mean, good tips. I think that might have actually been what has seemed "off" to me about the eyebrows! I think I was worried about going overboard, and did too little instead :sweat

Thank you both for commenting, I appreciate it!

    12. Looks great, love the freckles!!

    13. I didn’t mean to reply to this and I’m not sure how to delete it lol. Sorry

    14. Thank you both so much! I'm really happy with how the freckles turned out :)

    15. This is beautiful! I can’t believe this is your first faceup. I would love to see an update when you get the eyelashes!

    16. I really love the freckles.

    17. I love the subtleness of the freckles (I am all about freckles on my dolls as well so I'm always partial to them, haha) I'm assuming you are going for a more natural look and I would definitely wait to get those lashes in but if you want a little bit of extra pop I would darken underneath the upper lip slightly and maybe the inner corners of the eyes but that's personal preference more than anything else. I think you've done a beautiful job. :)

    18. Thank you so much you two! I have the eyelashes on now, they're a little more dramatic than I had hoped, but they're growing on me. I'll see if I can get a photo soon :)

Thank you for the suggestions! I always like hearing what other people like too, so that I can experiment some as well ^^

    19. This is a first? It looks amazing!
The freckles are so delicated and real-looking, I love it!
I agree with @Ves-chan about making they eybrows longer, but really just a tad bity to look more proportional because the small eyebrows concept seems to fit her well, you can search about human eyebrows to know where to stop.
I think you are in the right way, keep up with the good work! :thumbup

    20. love the freckles!!
