Fairyland PukiPuki Discussion Part 21

May 22, 2014

    1. All of this is true really - I certainly was hoping we'd see a new Puki, and they haven't gotten a new release in a while, certainly in comparison to the other lines (except their poor ChicLine). There hasn't been a new one since I got into the hobby, so it certainly makes it feel like a really long time to me! But at least they did have the tan puki event, which means they know we still love them!

    2. Hey pukipuki loving peeps! I've been a member for 3 years, yet this is my first post (shame).

I am currently saving up for a pukipuki as i'm absolutly in adoration with their size (and how they manage to pack so much personality in such tiny bodies!) so I greatly enjoy this thread! :)

I'm here to ask some help with a project I'm working on. I have some 3D modeling skills and was hoping to create 3d printed plastic accessories for pukipukis! Dual purpose here : I'll be able to have them for when I get my own pukipuki (hourray for custom items) AND a friend of mine's -who lives abroad- birthday is coming up and I was hoping to surprise her with some items for her pukipuki. As it is meant to be a surprise an I really dont want to spoil it, I can't ask her.

I have some detailed antlers designed for now and I'm currently working on some "nerdy" glasses. I was hoping someone would agree to measure the space (in mm) between the eyes as well as the distance between the eyes and the ear (I'm not picky about which sculpt you use, I'll get any info I can get, but hers is a cupid 3 if you want to know). This way i'll be sure they will fit even if i dont have a pukipuki to try them on.

thanks for reading (and hopefully someone can help)!

    3. Thanks. That makes more sense.

    4. i'll give you a bunch of measurements so you can use the ones that help. since i wear glasses these are the ones i assume you need :) they are taken off of a ruby and and ante, the two i have and were both the same
      width of nose 3mm
inside corner to inside corner of eye 5mm
center of eye to center of eye 10.5mm
outside corner to outside corner of eye 15.5mm
      width of head 25mm
side of head from front to back of ear 15mm (measured straight out from nose)
side of head from front to back of ear 11mm (measured from corner of eye since thats what you asked for)

i'd love to see what you come up with. i love glasses on my dolls!

    5. Thank you so much that is exactly what I needed :), You rock! I can show you a quick preview of what I am working on (it is in the 3d program as I did not get it printed yet so excuse the weird color/texture).

    6. Oooh, looks like soles for shoes, too! Good luck with your projects! :)

    7. Erdrick: Maybe this can help. I don't have a Cupid3 but here is a Pong face

    8. thanks all the data and references I can get helps me make these as accurate as possible :)! (also, off topic somewhat, but i love the mismatch eyes on your puki. my real life eyes are exactly like that, but reverse :D!)

    9. wow namaro that picture made me double check the measurements i took since the pong head came out quite a bit narrower, but i still get the same thing. i didn't realize that there was so much variance in the head sizes. both of mine (ruby and ante) came out the same. the picture was a smart way to do it, but i didn't have a camera handy.

it's really cool seeing the cd printer in progress erdrick. i'd love to see one in real life sometime.

    10. Can I say I'm sad pukipuki's are completely left off the Halloween event. I know they just had a tan event for them, but another would have been nice :)

    11. Yeah I'm hoping for Christmas they have them in... and tan... /drool. Even better, a new sculpt.

    12. Another puki tane event would be nice. Maybe for the winter event...? I want a Madeleine and Rose to be my Darjeeling, Rayne's, sisters.

    13. they didn't do the realpukis in tan either and last time they did the mnfs, lfs, and pkfs first then pp and rp in the next event so maybe that's what they are doing again?

    14. That's what I was thinking, too, auntbear! I hope we're right. I want a tribe of tan faerie tinies, haha.

    15. I don't usually lurk in here but I finally managed to get my seven Pukis in one place (they keep sneaking off to play) and thought I'd share a picture.

I got a Pong in July, and I'd like to sew some clothes for him. Does anyone have any tips for sewing on such a small scale?

    31. [IMG]

      Loving my Pong.
I really do hope we get a new sculpt next time around

    32. Thank you for the birthday spam and well wishes! <3

How does the bigger pong differ from the puki Pong? Now I gotta look lol

    33. there is a pong just like the puki version, but they came out with a new one that has a closed lopsided smirk. if you were to get both the heads you could potentially have two expressions for the same character which would be really cool. too bad you cant buy the heads separately.

    34. Ohhhh, I see what you mean, the BRAND NEW LTF is a Pong. I didn't realize.

Yes, it's a pity they don't allow you to buy face plates only. :(

    35. Congratulations~! My first (and only just for now, haha!) PukiPuki is a Pongpong. :) I'm not a professional seamstress by any means, but I do have some tips! Since the smaller the fabric pieces are, they less drape they will be able to hold, try to look for thin fabrics like very thin jersey cotton, like they use for "tissue" T-shirts (I think that's the right term?); basically, the thinner the fabric, the more scale-appropriate it will look. Practice hand-sewing if you are able, since it will give you the most control over the length and spacing of your stitching. Keep in mind that if you like to fold your hems rather than serge them, they will come out a little bulky because of the small scale. If you can find a teeny-tiny iron for doll clothes, that will help for hems; otherwise, you may want to invest in a creasing tool such as a bone knife used in scrapbooking to get smooth folds on those tiny pieces.

    36. I agree with designedforsmiles about the tips she gave for sewing for tinies. I personally use regular t-shirt material but the thinner the better. Also, I prefer to work with non raveling knits. I found working with a fabric that ravels can be disastrous on tiny seams. I have tried fray-check but I must be using it wrong because it doesn't work for me. If I absolutely must work with a raveling type of material, I use a toothpick to apply mod podge or white glue to the very edge of the fabric immediately after cutting the pieces. It does make the seam stiff, but so far, that hasn't been a major problem for me.

I used to do all my tiny sewing by hand because my machine wanted to drag the tiny seams into the feed dogs. In spite of taking my time and trying to be precise, my hand stitching is usually atrocious. However, I heartily endorse the use of fusible tear-away stabilizer. I use a product by Pellon called Fuse-N-Tear. I lay out my pieces and use an iron (one of those little bitty ones) and fuse the stabilizer to the piece that will be on the bottom. Then I just run the seam with the machine, stitching the material & paper together. Then you just need to carefully remove the paper from the fabric. It comes off easily but take extra care where the stitches so you don't stretch the fabric where the stitches are. Using the stabilizer is a huge time saver for me.

For hems, I also use a fusible tape called Steam-A-Seam. It has a bit of tackiness on both sides so it doesn't shift out of position while you are folding over the edge of the fabric. Some of the other fusible hem tapes are just a very thin strip without any tackiness and for me, they don't stay put very well when I am trying to line up the fold. On occasion, I have also used glue on some hems, but that definitely makes the hem stiffer and you have to be using a fabric where the glue won't show through to the outside.

    37. Ailene's makes a fabric glue that is flexible that works well. You might want to give it a try for softer seams. Hugs, Barbara

    38. verafae - your pong is so cute! Mine is a boy who insists on being nude wit no hair and riding a turtle. I am so excite I just received my Cupid 2 - she is going to be my little chef :)

    39. I love your Cupid3! So cool!

    40. @ Merlin's Mom: I love the various faces of Cupid! Please post photos of your Cupid2 when you can; that little tongue sticking out is too adorable. :aheartbea

    41. Hehe Pongs love to stay naked!

    42. I usually just lurk because I don't know how to post photos or for that matter how to upload them to the computer. My DIL takes some photos for me every now and then and posts them for me. I will see if she can do it this weekend.

Too cute sweetiemom - they march to their own drummer!

    43. So: As usual I'm totally late with my replies, so everyone bear with me while I revive a previous topic:

Stephanie: OOOHH YEAAAHH!! The Piggy Transformation set :doh Now we just need an intrepid someone to sculpt a deer-face onto an existing plate.

โ€ฆ I volunteer Erdrick to design one for his 3D printer ;)

I like your horns, Erdrich, because they're not as cute-sey as Fairyland's horns. If you decide to sell them then everyone would have a choice with styles!

    44. thank you! I have not yet printed the antlers but if they turn out any good, theres a chance they might make an appearance on etsy :), still trying to figure out how they can attach to the doll...headbands? magnets (though because of the scale, but would be really sweet)?, etc. As for designing a deer faceplate, I think it could be done but it might be easier/better to "sacrifice" an existing faceplate, sculpt on top and then cast it, since resin has a nicer finish than abs plastic (which is what the 3d printer uses)... could be done with 3d printing but it would require 3d scanning a faceplate first to get a perfect fit, which is easy enough if i can find access to a 3d scanner haha!

    45. PukiPukis already have magnets in their heads, so magnets would be a rather easy solution

    46. yes that definitely makes things easier. I guess I could just use a little piece of metal at the base of the antlers and they would be good to go!

    47. That'd be best. Then people could use them for different dolls with magnets and you wouldn't have to worry about opposing attractions.

    48. Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! by icewerks, on Flickr

A bit early but I figure it's October 31 somewhere in the world right now...

    49. Ahhh what a cutie! :aheartbea Can I ask what size cat you ordered? I want to get one for my pukis, but I'm having trouble deciding the right scale.

    50. So sweeet, reminds me of my nephew

    51. Thanks! She's a 5cm but if you're looking for Puki size, I'd recommend the smaller 4cm.

    52. Hey gals I thought the hallmark little tykes ornament car was the right size for these guys. I bought one on ebay and it's much to small. Is there a larger size or are they more RealPuki sized?

    53. This is very helpful, thanks so much!

    54. the 5cm cat is a good basic size if you have a lot of dolls. it works well for all dolls from pukipuki to msd. working as a large cat for the tinies and a small cat for the msds. if you only have tinies then icicle is right the 4cm would be better. (i have a 5 and 6 myself)

vertefae there are the hallmark kiddie car classic line of cars, trikes etc. but they are more pukifee sized. i have one of those trikes and it only works with my pukifees if they are wearing shoes. i can't think of anything in between.

    55. Poop! I'll just keep an eye out for something then.

Edit... found it! Its the little tykes dollhouse line.

    57. I love her penguin hat!!!

    58. Mmm, PukiPukis and chocolate! :) One of the best combinations in the world!
