I've had my PKF Ante for more than 4 years, and never shared her here yet, so it's about time I changed that:

Yes, I have my heart set on the old default makeup for Luna, so I was disappointed by the new one.

I can understand slight differences as all makeups are handmade, but obviously, there were too many differences in my Luna case. I hope Fairyland will fix it, and communicate about those differences.
As I read in this thread, they should inform their customers before sending the dolls, not ignore our opinion when we receive a "wrong" makeup as they did.

Nevertheless, all your tinies are so cute, thank you for your great pictures!

Hehe well, it's a combo of that and the fact that the bangs on this wig are POOFY! xD The bangs are a tad too long as well (I think this wig probably fits better on tiny delf and lati yellow) but mostly it's the poofyness of it that makes it look like it's not actually on right ~ and thank you so much!

The wig is on the same way as in the other picture but it looks better as long as she has a hat to "cover" it....Actually Nyra seems to fit really good in hats so that's why she almost always wear one x)

The green dress looks even better on Nyra than the pink one for some reason...Nyra is indeed extra adorable with a hat. If only I wouldn't have fallen so hard for the Ante sculpt I'd be all over the Vanilla one. I think they're my two favorites of the bunch.

I've been wondering if I should turn my plans for a future Pukifee into a DIY project. I've never done a face-up before so I'm a little scared to just get a blank sculpt. What if I absolutely can't do it? It's not like I have any experience, let alone on a face that cute and small. I don't even know what to get and where to start. I wish I liked the default face-up for Ante but it doesn't suit the character I have in mind at all...

As for having a pukifee ante for your DIY project, I definitely think you should do it! Ante is really...forgiving. It's such a cute sculpt and how do I say this.. Even if the face-up end up being so and so, the ante sculpt really makes up for it. Of all the different dolls I've painted ante has been by far the easiest to paint. It doesnt matter how I paint it, it just magically turns out good! xD (if that makes any sense at all) So from my experience, ante is really a good sculpt to start with :3

In worst case you can always send him/her to someone for a custom face-up! ~

I see Nyra is a tan girl and Pocca a normal girl? Which skintone did you find 'harder' to do a face-up on? Great to hear that Ante has the magical power to make even the worst of face-ups look half-decent. I have a feeling I'll need it in the beginning, haha~

Now I just need to bite the bullet and save up some more. With some luck I might even find a nice second-hand Ante, I do want the sleeping plate as well though. I'm a sucker for cute girls and boys taking a nap~

Well, I went and did it. I really need to get a Pukifee ante (a big sister for my pukipuki) but instead I put a Vanilla on layaway. Ktk8 posted a picture of her Vanilla a few pages ago and for the last couple of days I have not stopped thinking about that doll. (Is it weird that I can hear my future Pukifee talking to me already?)

I never was interested in this sculpt as I did not like the Fairyland pictures, but seeing everyone's photos here has made me fall in love with that doll. So in about four months from now, I too will have one!

 

the two sculpts are similar enough that a vanilla could be a sister to a pp ante anyway. sibs dont have to be the same sculpt, mine arent always.

Siara, you should definitely try painting faceups, if you use Faber or watercolour pencils, they are easy to wipe off, even if you seal it in with MSC, you can use clear colourless nail polish remover if you change your mind. It's fun!

Auntbear, I really like Vanilla's faceup, the default one. It's kinda hard to see the different with Ante, as I don't have one!

 

Don't feel bad, I got suckered into liking the Vanilla sculpt as well. She's gorgeous, no doubt about it. I can't wait for your girl to come home so we can all welcome her. If I wasn't so stubborn I would've ordered a Vanilla a long time ago but my heart says I should go for little Ante. We'll see what happens, haha~

I'm still nervous about it. Maybe I'll try with a default face-up first and once I feel brave enough to try my own I'll wipe the little one clean.

I read recently someone say in BJD confession that Ante is the ugliest Fairyland sculpt that she looks like a piggy. And ever since I've seen her in this forum she has become actually one of my favorites.

I made an outfit for Dashiell yesterday - it's a first effort so I definitely need to tweak my pattern, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, considering I made the pattern up on the spot! I also need to use different yarn - this one is too stiff for this size of doll -

Those overals look really nice, willoughby! The color selection suits your Dashiell nicely too. Are you planning to add a shirt underneath the overalls as well?

 

I don't want to be rude or anything but that's kind of the first thing that came to mind when I saw her as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the sculpt so it's not an insult as far as I'm concerned. Nothing cuter than the Ante piglet~

For wigs, you'll need a 5-6 size. 10mm is the usual eye size, but I've seen some PKFs with 12mm. It depends on how large you want the iris to look. I have 10mm in all of mine.

Congratulations~! Did she come with her sleeping faceplate or any extra's? I can't wait to see your little one when he/she arrives. Wigs are indeed size 5-6 in general. The default eyes are 10mm but some like to use smaller eyes (8mm) to make them look older. I'd have to say that most 8mm will gap though, not all but it's a gamble. I don't think I've seen Pukifee with bigger eyes yet but I wonder how those would look.

 

I think I settled on a permanent faceup for my Juri, who is going to be a mermaid boy.
Currently looking for a headback for him, so I can mod him into a Migidoll body. They seem flatter, so I think it will be easier to shape a tail on it without doing more permanent changes to the doll.

Aava is a nice name for a sea fairy Aurinel, I remember her and her merteddy very well. What do you think I should name my Juri mermaid? I kinda like Finley cos it sounds like an obvious name for a mermaid, though I'd like a more meaningful name. I like Fyfe, which simply means from Fife (somewhere in Scotland) or Zephyr, which is a westerly wind.

Yup, I did it several times, the last time I got it close to what I wanted so I just went over the details so it'll look darker

I named my mermaid Seirian, which means sparkling (actually a boys name, but who cares :P)

 

I had the same idea! And I think Aysu is a pretty name (my favorite from your list). My thoughts were:

Daulphin (old french for dolphin, but I like the spelling)
Boto (other name for Amazon River Dolphin)
Baiji (i.e. Chinese River Dolphin)

You did a really great job! Which Migidoll body are you modding, a Cynical Baby? I was very impressed with their line when they were at KBJD last year. I remember going through a lot of websites searching for Oskadis's name when she arrived, because I wanted something with meaning. You'll find the perfect name, I just know it.

So many good names for this little guy, I like the sound of Arvin and Mirwen, but I like a few of the other names as well, Daulphin is really cute, maybe I'll reserve that for a pet name if I get him one. Mmm, Still undecided. I have a funny tradition I made for myself where two of my dolls will always have names starting with the same alphabet, except for my pair of centaurs whose names are Arden and Zoelle as a cute exception. Maybe Mirwen and Wade since the first letters look the same upside down? lol Friesia will have to wait for another doll to have a letter 'F' name then

No problem, pm away. Will the resin be an okay match for Lati/Migi, or are you already anticipating having to do a bit of blushing? That's a cute mer-body, is it your own sculpt or from another source? I know there had been Mer-Pukis, but FL never really went beyond that size, unfortunately. I would love to see FL do a centaur sculpt like the Tiny Delfs, I'm sure the articulation would be amazing.

Yeah I was thinking of doing a Mexican day of the dead faceup on him, if he fits the lati body.
I sculpted his tail out of polymer clay, it's supposed to be the one with effects, but the top and bottom bits are the only ones that are slightly transparent. I'll have to do a blush up for it and fix one of the segments, it looks funny at the side. Yeah, I saw one if the merpukis for sale once, but I wanted one in pukifee size! I wish Fairyland would be more adventurous with their sculpts. I've always loved mermaids!

Oh, I always wondered what the difference between Ante and Vanilla! It looks like Vanilla has rounder eyes and slimmer lips.

 

I agree Sunrei! I really wish that they'd be more willing to do fantasy parts. (It's a bjd company called Fairyland for goodness sakes!) I LOVE what you're doing with your boy. Are you gonna start making resin mermaid tails for pukifees???

I finally got my girl's face up done but alas... She remains nameless -.-

 

Of course everyone's going to notice certain features a little differently, but the most distinctive features that I notice are that Ante has eyes shaped like a "D" lying on its flat side (although the PukiFee version seems to curve up a bit more at the outer corners), and Vanilla has a wider nose, a more dramatic Cupid's bow, and the mouth is sculpted just so slightly open. Here's a link to a photo I found on Flickr that I feel shows the differences from a more straight-on angle.

I think Dony also makes a great sister sculpt to Ante. The eyes are a bit different, and Ante's nose is just a smidge flatter, but the mouth shapes are pretty similar, with Ante having a slightly fuller upper lip and Dony having a little more depth in the lips. Here's another link comparing the blank sculpts.

 

Nice faceup! I like her lips the best, the color and the little detailed stripes She also has very natural looking eyebrows, which for me are the hardest part since you have to be both symmetrical and not look too perfect or it'll look cartoony.

I'm not sure if I'll start making stuff in resin, I don't know much about the material. I think you would need to take the original shape and then make a mold to pour the resin mix in, and I don't have the equipment. At this point I'm just experimenting, to see if I can make stuff I'd enjoy, plus FIMO is just so easy to use. The trick is the middle sections are shaped like bowls with holes at the bottom, so that they stack on top of each other when you pull the string through, whereas the last bit of tail is a tear shape. If you think of them like beads, it kinda makes sense. I'm feeling kinda lazy at the moment to do anymore and I'm looking for a roundish shape thing to make a headback... any ideas of household stuff I could use to make a pukifee sized head? lol
I need to find one of those styrofoam balls..

DesignedforSmiles: Ohh thanks for the comparisms! When you see photos like that it's a lot easier to tell. I still like Ante the best, I've always thought Dony looked a little bit more like Luna. I think Akara had some pictures of those two.

 

Thanks and yeah eyebrows are always the hardest! @.@ When you talk about the tail sculpt in terms of beads it doesn't seem so hard... But I know it's probably still harder than it seems hehe

 

I'm still pretty astonished that I have only seen TWO halloween derpy face plates with a faceup -- I think it is so funny and so cute! just surprised there aren't more. Mine will be going to botflybaby to have her give mine a faceup. can't wait to see what she does!!!!

EYEGLASSES HELP -- I like these, they are from a Monster High doll. But as you see they don't sit well on her nose, her wig makes them go crooked. Any suggestions for either a different kind, or a solution? Maybe I'll try the barbie glasses trick which is to put a clear rubberband at the arms then around the back of her head, to see if I can get them to really fit snugly. hm.

Botflybaby does faceups? That's neat! I've seen the houses she makes for tinies, but I've never seen her faceups. I bet it would look awesome, girl's got skill

Alas, my derpy face hasn't arrived yet, it's with the Hub's order from early November that hasn't arrived yet, much to our chagrin.

Sher, can you heat/bend the bows to fit better? Or carve out a little crescent so that they sit on her ears? I know ForeverVirginia used to make printed glasses on acetate, you'd cut them out and fold them. They looked pretty good, perhaps those would work?

 

I'm afraid I will break them if I try to bend too much. I am wondering if I might just do something to the wig itself, like cut a little hole for the eye arm or something. Nobody else is probably going to wear this wig. hm. that might work....
