Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 67

Oct 15, 2021

    1. Wow, still nothing new. I am in fire :XD:

    2. I'm working on a tail fin for my seahorse tail and thought you guys might be interested in that sort of thing- what do you think? This isn't the final color- i am sculpting off of this to try to cast a clear resin tail fin.

      Also Edit to ask
Does anyone know if the Fairyline abdominal piece is the same shape as the Regular Female torso piece? I know the inner workings are different but I am wondering if the fit would work for Fantasy parts.

    3. Don't fairyland usually start the new events on fridays? I think we can count on this friday.

    4. @winnie.troubadour thank you for the update.

Actually that's a good news, since that will be after my payday

I'm also more curious about how the tail pose, and of course about the event head! Hope we could get more detail soon.

    5. I think I'm safe from the merman, as I worry about the poseability. He is very handsome, though! I am excited to see if they re-release another old sculpt with him as well for the event.

Also, gentle request for Sircca spam. Bonus if she has a Fairyland faceup. (I've asked before, but I think I've finally decided that it's time to re-shell Felicity after many years, which is kind of bittersweet). Also nerve-wracking because I have to figure out how to sell a doll which I've never done before. :sweat

    6. Here you go @Nabbs ! She is my only non-Chloe minifee.

here is my Safiya - wearing, as usual for my minifee, a Raouken corset with
a petticoat that I’d made, a wonderful alpaca wig, and SwanDoll eyes.
      Necklace by facets.
And Yes! she has her default Fairyland facepaint.

    7. @Robyn_in_WA - oh my, she is gorgeous! She's is extra beautiful in tan as well. The only tiny detail I don't like about the default faceup is that the blushing on her eyelids is blue, and I wish they did a more natural brown (kind of like the default faceup for Sylvia). But I would want to order her all ready to go.

I would love to send off for a custom faceup, but I'm too worried about them getting lost or damaged on transit. *_*

    8. Could i request some lami, chloe or rin with default faceup is a plus!

    9. Uh, so...is it normal that my order isn't listed anymore on my Fairyland site account? It says 'no order has been made yet' but I ordered on March 01. Still have the Paypal receipt of course. I was just intending to check and now I'm nervous:shudder
Edit: Never mind, I'm a dumbass. I accidentally logged in with Google :doh

    10. Does anyone know if the Fairyline female sculpt only differs from the current regular one by Internal structure? Does anyone have both to show side by side?
(I'm curious if I need a fairyline body for this mermaid tail or if with some stringing I can put any other female Minifee body on here.)

    11. i do think it varies just a little bit to accommodate the removable legs, namely in stringing. From the outside it looks nearly exactly like the A line at a glance. I’ll take a look in a bit to double check! I think FL also has some demos/reference images on their site under info.

    12. I have a Lami with default faceup in white resin. =)

    13. Thank you @Nabbs - I think Fairyland did brilliant work painting my Sircca!
I especially did like her eyeshadow myself. Perhaps it wouldn't look as
gorgeous on a natural resin doll, I don't know.

Here you go @SacredMonsoon - on the left is my Fairyland painted Chloe.
I have a hard time covering up her not-very-attractive eyebrows - so she is
likely to go off to an artist one day for a repaint. Sometimes Fairyland does
beautiful brows - like on my Sircca - but Chloe's brow shape is not my
      favorite.

both Chloe sculpts - default on left, VittaVera (gorgeous) paint on right

    15. @Amadiel - She is beautiful! I'm excited to see more Lamis as they come in.

@Robyn_in_WA - All of your dolls are beautiful!! Their wigs, outfits, everything is a vibe. :D

      Hi, me again. :sweat

Looking for any photos of Maya or Sylvia. I posted a database thread for them, but only a few posts so far. I've been looking on Flickr and Instagram, and I'm so sad there aren't more out there.

    16. Hello! I just ordered my first minifee straight from Fairyland. The processing time is 60 days (natural skin Celine with faceup). In general, do people find that estimate to be accurate? I would love to have her at the end of summer.

    17. @Aurify
They only count business days, so no weekends or holidays. For the record I have only ordered their dolls through DDE, but always found them fairly fast. You might find better answers about the wait times in the Fairyland waiting room thread. There is even a list linked there with when people ordered and from where and how long the doll took.

    18. She is SO beautiful!! Lami is definitely one of my top sculpts. I love the choice of wig and colors for her clothes.

    19. I'm silly and haven't been able to properly dig out my FL girl for comparison unfortunately. However I have been wondering the same thing so I've done some looking while I was commuting.

basically, fairyline's waist seems to be smaller than A-line per this picture:
      Minifee Body Comparison

And the measurements table in the Wiki corroborates that with an 18.5cm hip measurement for FLine and a 19cm one for A Line.

While that's only roughly .5cm, I'm sure sanding it down would be viable, and I've seen someone on insta mod a boy body (I don't remember which one unfortunately, but if i had to guess it was most likely the Fline boy body) to fit one of the girl leg parts, but it seemed like it was a bit bigger of a project because if you want the waist to be visable you'd need to keep in mind the sculpting and perhaps fill out portions that don't exactly match up. I think probably imitating the Fline connector would be doable, since it's primarily elastic and a ring to hook on to the legs.

      • x 2
    20. Oh wow thank you!
I suppose the last piece of this puzzle is if the mermaid body I have was before or after they started to do Fairyline as a thing...Time for me to do more digging in the news page. Edit: Okay yeah this is the Sia tail, from their first Fairyline body- makes sense.

    21. Do you have a preferred eye size for your minifees? Does it depend on the sculpt? I'm planning to pre-buy just a few extra sets for my Celine (she'll be coming with random eyes).

    22. Depends on the sculpt for me. My Dina has small eyes and she wear 10mm (a bit of gap) or 12mm with small iris. I prefer Alicia in 12mm but she can wear 14mm. And I have a event head with big eyes who wears 14mm. Though generally I think minifees look good with 12mm. ;)

Celine has big eyes so she can wear 12 or 14mm. It depends on iris size really. Bigger is more cutesy snaller more mature.

      • x 1
    23. most of mine use 12-14 (sircca, iset, karsh, lishe, dina, juri20) with the smaller iris, but my soo event head I think uses 14s with the regular size iris. I personally like 14s with the smaller iris in mnf more, I think it rides that perfect line of mature/cutesy

    24. I'm curious, has anyone tried putting an A-Line girl on one of the seahorse tails? Obviously it would be more difficult, since the Fairyline bodies are built to do that easily. But I kind of want to grab a seahorse tail from this event, but I only have A-Line girls at home to pair it with. Curious if anyone has tried this?

    25. If the seahorse tail has the same kind of attachment as my Dina's hooves, you won't be able to use am a-line body I don't think. The difference between her fairyline body is that it comes apart at the torso and the elastic is attached to an O ring. The legs are strung completely separate rather than fromntop to bottom. That ring is what you attach to a thick resin hook on the fantasy parts and tension keeps it together.

Now, I haven't taken any of my minifee apart yet, but to try I would think you will need to get an O ring and shorter elastic to try this, if the torso comes apart after the same place?

      • x 1
    26. It's possible technically, but need some mod to work out. I had saw someone on instagram putting A-line body on Dina faun legs before with mod (I don't think the body could go back to human legs, sadly)

If you want them to be exchangeable, the best way is to buy a fairyline body, along with the seahorse tail.

      • x 1
    27. The new Mermaid is not for me, but Fairyland is finally showing a picture of the new dolls head with the faceup (at least the dreaming heads) and without a wig or anything. This is so cool, so hopefully no more weird eyebrow surprises in the future. :XD:

      • x 2
    28. A few posts above yours i detailed out how this would work measurements wise! Its under the spoiler that says "Cursory Findings".

      • x 1
    29. I can easily mod the A Line body to have the fairyline type inner shelf for an o ring and allow the stringing to work, I've seen inside one and it's not rocket surgery to me, but my only concern was whether the hips themselves would fit.
      Edit:
The above mentioned post is the info we have so far, until someone can show an upward internal side by side of an A-Line and Fairy Line girl body

Edit- either that or I take apart and try my Old Version A Line girl on the seahorse hips to at least rule that one out or not.

      Post Post Script!
Okay I'mma do it. I don't have the Renewal body but I have the original A line. It's taken me this long because of health, but also because the Organizers I had helping me fix my sewing room, in their Efficiency Wisdom, work by taking everything out of theboxes I had it in and sorting it into new neater box systems.
which means they dismantled my Dollwork Kit I've been taking to meets and Cons for years and split up all the parts as seen through the vision of someone who's never seen dolls before. I am still tryingt o locate all the tools. My big hemostats might have been put in the garage because TOOLS.
      Sigh.

Okay! So! In summary, the Old A-line doesn't work without modding.
I made a thread in Photo Reference to put together Minifee hybridizing tests with Fairyline parts.
The New A-line Renewal bodies might be a different fit, but I do not have one of those, so I rely for that on asking if anyone else does have that and a Seahorse tail to compare.

    30. So about the old/first Sia Seahorse mermaid tail and fairyline torso, I own one which got one second hand a while back. It had the flat bust, so I made mine a mer-boy. Mine doesn't have legs just the tail, and he'd been stored for years before he was sold by his first owner. When I first got him the lower torso part seemed too big to set right in the tail. It sat awkwardly and would shift side to side. It never fit in smooth, and sat very similar to the pic of the A-line torso in the tail by @Rosslyn just a touch better. This is one of the first fairy-line dolls and had been stored for a while in box so not sure if resin warped or it never fit fully. Because I wanted a better fit I ended up sanding it just a bit until the fit smooth and it didn't pop out of place on it's own, and now the doll is prefect.

This is Ezra my mer-boy, I also modded/glued on some gills to make him more unique.
      [IMG]Ezra Westbrook

You can see in his picture how his lower torso now sets in the tail nicely.
Hope this info helps those with A-line girl or even MNF boy hybrid with fairy-line parts plans.

    31. Thank you to everyone who replied! The photo especially is really helpful. I don't want to have to do heavy modding on my girls, so I guess I will start saving up for a Fairyline body to do it properly! Thank you guys :)

    32. Does anyone know what size of eye looks best in Minifee Hwayu, and what size wig she takes? I'm worried I may be woefully unprepared for my Hwayu's arrival next week

    33. Probably a 6/7 wig, most minifees can fit that size. Eyes probs either 12mm or 14mm, depending on preference.

    36. All minifee heads except Mika/Mir are compatible with fairyline body.

This had been confirm once by fairyland (Those two mentioned sculpt has more narrow neck hole or some issue... if I remember correctly)

I'm planning to put other head on my merman body too. The Akis sculpt will get another character.:dance

    38. I was hoping to get some opinions on the cutie legs (on new bodies). Likes, dislikes? How do they pose?

    39. I finished the faceup on my Lookback Shiwoo today. I put him on the DF-h 35cm body. I think he is adorable.

    40. I personally like the model legs but I am definitely in the minority. I think the cutie legs are too curvy and sometimes look bent. Most people like the cutie legs better.

      • x 1
    41. I prefer model legs too. I have dolls with both and overall, they both work. I just like the straighter legs modestly better.

      • x 1
    42. I suspect those of us who prefer the model legs just don't speak up about it much. LOL

      • x 1
    43. Based on the pictures I dislike the look of the cutie legs and keep wondering why those weirdly bend legs are more popular than the perfectly good straight ones. :sweat when I first started looking into Minifee pictures I genuinely thought that those had to be recasts since everyone always talked about how especially the misshapen legs are a sure way to recognize them. I thought that there was no way the legs were actually supposed to look like that so imagine my surprise when I realized that they really look like that in the company pictures too. I only have one girl with Moe body and actually aren't too in love with its legs either, they don't look as badly bend as the cutie legs but still more wonky than I'd prefer. I really should just keep looking for a body from some completely different company to put my Honoka head on since I generally speaking don't exactly love Minifee bodies.

I guess that's pretty controversial opinion since it seems that most people consider Minifee body the greatest of all the bodies out there and I see people saying it's one of the best posers and I just don't understand the hype, I've never had as bad time with any other body as I do with my Minifee one and that includes some single jointed bodies I own. Really the only perk of it to me are the magnetic hands & feet since they make swapping them easy but even that, while nice, isn't something I couldn't live without. :sweat

Sorry this turned into a negative rant. I like a lot of the Minifee heads though and I'm amazed by their mermaids and centaurs parts, what gorgeous creatures those are! And I still love looking at pictures of them and seeing how people style their dolls. I guess summed up I like these dolls on pictures but not that much as something to own myself.

      • x 1
    44. I like both leg styles. What I like about the cutie legs is that they have "more meat on their bones". Like a lot of real life people. I like that about their arms too. A lot of other companies have "noodle arms" lol But the model legs still look realistic. Plus they give the illusion of being taller. I have only cutie leg bodies currently but I want model leg version for my Alice Madness Returns homage doll. Her game character is very thin so a cutie bust, model leg would be perfect!

As for overall posing, for me Minifee/Fairyland has been the best. Expect for sitting on their knees, which they can't do. I've tried Soul Doll, Doll Leaves, Doll Chateau, and a few artist dolls. All of them the arms do not hold a pose well. They just fall or snap to her sides. MYou did well but I only had a tiny, so not sure about 1/4th scale. And has someone who changes doll outfits frequently (I like to sew for them) the magnet hands are appreciated. It's such a nightmare putting my DC's jointed fingers through a sleeve lol

    45. I'm not in a position to comment about the girl's legs, since I only own boy minifee so far. But I support the fact that they are a good poser, maybe not the best but still very good. (My charm doll girl is very impressive in holding pose too, and she can sit on her knees, so if I'm counting that, she win)

Judging from the looks of two legs, I think it's purely aesthetic. I've heard once that the model legs pose better, but can't find any evidence or comparison thread. Maybe it just a rumor? :?

    46. From my experience (and I'm really not trying to stir the pot right now don't come at me, just respectfully posting an opinion) an awful lot of the people who think Fairyland has the "best" posing have not a ton of experience with other dolls and they're sort of an entryway doll to the hobby for a lot of people too. Most Fairyland dolls don't pose well - they just don't. They have single jointed knees and strangely engineered joints that don't do much, they can't bend at very many angles and they're kind of a pain. The lack of posing and awkward bodies are what keep me away from the company more than anything else (and I have a lot of experience with their dolls)

That being said, they LOOK of them posing is very smooth and natural compared to other dolls. So I think people get the two conflated very often or we aren't defining the word "best" in the same way. Some people care about the way it looks, some people care about certain poses, angles, stability, etc and some people don't care about certain things. This is the conclusion I've made after 10 years in the hobby and much much experience with different dolls, FL and doll owners.

I wish minifees were easier to hybrid, because I really don't like the bodies. The awkwardly shaped legs are not only strange to look at, but they make it difficult for them to stand in their own heels sometimes xD My Dina constantly buckles at her knees because of the leg shape and shoes after wiring and sueding and all that too. If the legs weren't bent backwards at the shin it'd be fine. And don't get me started on the motion line boy.

Anyway tldr you're not alone in liking the model legs.

    47. I do have a lot of experience with many dolls, and I still find my fairyland bodies to be some of the best at posing. There's no accounting for tastes, as they say.

      • x 5
    48. The thing that bothers me most about my two dolls is that they don't sit up very well. I like how the bodies look (yes, cutie legs included) and I knew about their problems sitting up before getting them, but I don't love that about them.

    50. I have an older body (2010) MNF that can't pose well to save her life. At the same time I have a slightly newer (2012ish) boy body that poses like a champ. I have several other brand and sizes and all of them have their pluses and minuses regarding posing.

    51. My elf Phoeb and tan Lami arrived today! One odd thing I noticed, though - my Lami's headback has "hwayu" engraved in it and not "Lami" (elf Phoeb has the correct engraving). I don't plan on selling her ever, so I'm not concerned exactly, but is that normal?

Either way I'm so happy! Now I just need it to stop raining so I can start their faceups. :D

      • x 4
    52. I would contact Fairyland about that. Are you sure it's the correct sculpt? Maybe they were working on a Lami and a Hwayu at the same time and accidentally switched their head caps. Also, I know you said you don't plan on ever selling her... but to be on the safe side, I would at least get some sort of record from FL about the mix up.

      • x 2
    53. @Marcille I gree with @The Raven that you should check with Fairyland. I don't have Lami but she is now displaying at a doll store 20mins away from my house (Public transport). If it's need I could go to that doll store and ask to see the inside of head cap.

This is only in the case that fairyland couldn't give a clear answer and no one purchase the displayed doll while we are talking (Not likely to be soon... Minifee full set is indeed expensive)

    54. Congrats! I would love to see photos of them!!

    55. Thank you for all the input - I contacted customer service about it as suggested so that there's a paper trail at least. She's definitely Lami, so the most important part is right at least!

And I'll definitely post proper pics when they have their faceups done. I just need the awful English weather to calm down a bit! :XD:
