Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 64

Mar 26, 2019

    1. Ah I saw this a bit late. @ZOMBUNN13 I can check to see if the measurements on the website are the same or get you ones that are missing if you'd like. I'm in the middle of drafting patterns for my boy so I'm in the thick of it anyway. :) And I have to say I love the moe body! It's so cute! But I'd like to switch the legs with the motionline just to make him shorter. I actually wish he was short like the girl body XD then my Lucian would be perfect!

    2. If you'd be okay with that, then that would be lovely!
My Tulip is going to be wearing all kinds of pretty clothing and I need an accurate set of measurements to make sure I get him things that fit.
I also got him the Moe Line girl heel feet so that I can get him cute little heeled sandals and a pair of white pumps if I can find people who make them on Etsy. So far I've only been finding Active/Motion line heels.

    3. If you can find sellers who make heels for the Moe feet, we'd all love to hear about it! I was so excited for those feet but now I have nothing to put on them. P:

    4. I'll let you know for sure! They're honestly SUPER cute feet, and normally I don't like feet at all. But the sculpt is surprisingly nice. They remind me of little anime girl feet.

    5. @ZOMBUNN13 I think most of the measurements are correct for the company, but I disagree with chest, hip and shoulder measurements. Which are the most important when you're clothes shopping.
      Comp.-------- Owner
      15.3cm ------ 15.5cm chest
      18cm --------- 17.8cm hip
      8cm ----------- 9cm shoulder (6.6cm socket to socket)

They rounded up for the hip measurement, which isn't a bad thing and the chest difference was super slight. Something to keep in mind when ordering tight form fitting clothes (ex. Corsets) is that the joint for the boy moe body is much lower than the other bodies. It's at his ribs rather than right under the bust. So if it's shper tight it might affect the mobility of this joint. The shoulders were just plain off. Lol.

    6. Ah, thanks so much for all of this! I wrote it down so I wont lose it.
I feel like finding clothes for Minifees is pretty easy on Etsy. Whenever I was looking for MSD clothes, a lot of the ones I liked only came in Minifee size, but of course I had to be difficult and go for the boy body which is much harder to find fitting clothes for. lol
So I appreciate all of your help! Everyone in this thread has been so nice~:aheartbea

    7. @ZOMBUNN13 you're very welcome! Yes, it's hard to find actual msd size clothes that aren't for mnfs. And harder to find boy fitting styles of either. Though, you can always commission someone to make them too. Especially if they own the body. :) Or if you want to, you can try making clothes yourself too. There's lots of tutorials here and I recommend lomisplayground on YouTube there's another member here too that does good tutorials but I can't remember her channel name. Orange something...

    8. That's very true. I'm mostly waiting until my roommate can find his hand-sewing machine rather than a normal sized sewing machine. These clothes are so tiny and I have long fingers that could get smashed easily by a normal sewing machine.
Whenever I try to hand sew things, the seams just don't look right on a doll. It's too messy and kinda lumpy looking.

I do find it funny how doll popularity has shifted over the years. A while back, it was the boy dolls that were more popular and now it's primarily female dolls that people seem to own the most. So the clothing market has shifted to reflect that. And Minifees are super popular at the moment hence why those are most of the patterns and clothes we find on Etsy.

I mostly went for a Minifee for this character because I prefer MSD sized dolls and I needed him to be shorter than the rest of my 'cast.' Also the ShuShu head was perfect. I'm trying my best not to buy dolls unless it's to shell a character and I have to look at it an IMMEDIATELY realize it's them. ShuShu was PERFECT for Tulip, and I like the idea of the magnet hands. I bought him two extra pairs so that I can do more things with him in photosets.

    10. Can anyone tell me which size of this wig will fit my Minifee Chloe? I read that Minifee wears either 7/8 or 6/7 but I'm not sure which. Thank you!

    11. @misskitty88 the MSD size should be fine for that wig, I'd say it would be a 7-8 wig which should fit Chloe (somebody correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't own her). If you want to be sure of measurements you can always ask LegendDoll to see if they know the measurements the wig company uses. They're wonderful when it comes to answering questions :)

    12. Ok, thank you very much! :kitty2 I sent them a message asking for the exact measurements. I guess I'm confused because I asked about minifee wig sizes on another site and they told me to choose 6/7 for Minifee, but I swear I'd read they take 7/8!

    13. No problem, glad to help :) I believe some of the MiniFees with smaller heads (like Mir/Mika) can take smaller 6-7 wigs. Some wig companies sizes are on the larger side (Leeke World for example) so with them you would probably need a 6-7 instead :XD: Sometimes it's just a matter of trial and error to find what fits properly.

    14. Pretty much all of my minifees wear 6/7 wigs and I’ve got like... 11, lol. I tend to find it’s safer going that size than that 7/8 nine times out of ten, and not just with Leeke wigs. Unless you’re talking about some of the old school Luts era mnf like WooSoo, El, or DES, which are all pretty notorious for having large noggins.
Besides, even if it’s snug, a wig that’s a tad small almost always looks better on a doll than a wig that’s too large, imo.

      • x 2
    15. I agree with @Hakari-chan. 6/7 is a better fit than 7/8 for most of the mnf heads. I use 6/7 for my Chloe and FLAM. I had 7/8 on Chloe and Lishe for their first wigs, but unless you're planning to get a silicone wigcap you're going to find it to be a frustrating experience. They would pop off with the slightest hair play and they looked poofy. In my opinion anyway. It wasn't a good look.

And I definitely agree about El and DES having huge noggins!!! My El has a custom wig and I used more fiber covering his cap than the others! XD

    16. Personally one of my pet peeves is wigs popping off because they're too small so I tend to opt for slightly larger and use a wig cap/velcro/etc to secure them. I haven't had issues with them looking silly myself but this is said in regard to SDs, I've not got many MSDs and only one MiniFee so they could very well look a bit odd with a wig on the larger side of their measurements due to their smaller size :XD:

    17. I was wondering what size eyes Luka wears? I've tried Googling it, but I've been unable to come up with answers. So if you have a Luka or know where I can find the answer, please point me in that direction? n_n

    18. @misskitty88 I don't have any legenddoll wigs but my Chloe wears a 7/8 monique wig and I love it on her. It stays put well and doesn't look too big to me. I should note though that I also use a silicone wig cap to help prevent staining and sliding.

    19. Hello everyone in this thread :) I hope it's okay to post it here, but I have a question (after like 6 years in the hobby I'm finally getting a MNF lol :D) So my question is - what wigs are they wearing? I see people put on some yosd wigs (6-7 inch), but I once had an msd with a smaller head and these wigs didn't fit. I have a collection of msd wigs, so I'd hope that these suffice, but I am aware that often in case of smaller heads wigs that are slightly too big just don't look too good - they look better when stetched... What wigs (from the non etsy-commissioned ones as I only buy on ebay and alice's collections) fit mnf heads? which ones you prefer?

    20. @CutieKitty you actually jumped in in the middle of a discussion about wigs so if you read back a few posts some people have already provided information about wigs. As for what brands I personally use for my minifee I do mostly have etsy wigs but I also have wigs from formydoll, leeke, cancan j-series, and monique. The monique being my personal favorite. The monique wigs I have gotten have always been 7/8 and worked well (my Chloe wears a monique, and when I had a Rheia she also wore monique), From Leeke I mostly have 6/7 but some of the 6/7 wigs were too small so I had to go 7/8. I have a really hard time predicting if it will fit with Leeke. Cancan I have 6/7, and formydoll I have a 7/8 which is a bit big on the Mirwen that wears it but with a wig cap it works fine.

    21. @malvinas you're right, sorry xD So I see the opinions are divided and I'll just have to wait for mine to arrive and get a silicone cap, if already (I don't feel like rebuying all my wigs, and most of them are very nice and hard to find again for a decent price ;)

    22. Yes, I have one wig for her I got from Denver Doll and it's a 7/8, and I also have a silicone wig cap. It's just interesting that both 6/7 and 7/8 can potentially fit. Thank you for your response!

    23. Can I ask a question to anyone who has tan dolls where the fingers/ears have broken or you have subtractively modded? Are this insides of your dolls tan or white?
I have just received my tan Hwayu and the ear has chipped but the inside of the resin is stark white? This seems really odd to me but is this normal for FL? I have sent them a message with the details. I can add a photo later if people want.

    24. I can't speak to the most recent tan, but I know that sanding the older ones, yes, they are lighter on the inside, it's why most people don't do subtractive mods on tan dolls unless they're able to paint match the resin. I do wonder if it's *actually* white inside or if that's just at the break? Sometimes at the breaking point on a semi-pliable substance like plastic or resin, the material will turn kind of white-ish, but the material itself is not white.

[IMG]IMG_20190509_085557 by Miku Plantman, on Flickr

It is stark white inside which is what has me concerned. If it were a lighter colour I would understand because the sanding marks on my other fl tan doll is lighter but this is pure white.

    26. Did you buy her straight from Fairyland?

    27. Yes, I bought her when I hosted a fairyland group order when the Sarang 2019 event was on. She arrived with me Wednesday so she is brand new from Fairyland themselves.
I have messaged them about it to see what they say as I don't think this is normal.

    28. Okay, I definitely won't be doing any mods on my new tan doll, then. :shudder

    29. AFAIK, there are very few doll companies that completely saturate the doll body with color through and through. And Fairyland isn't one of them.

    30. Dollshe tan is like that, white with a coating of tan. I broke my pale tan Saint's finger and it looked like that.

    31. Ah, so it is possibly normal then?

If I'd known that I probably would have just bought a ws doll and dyed it. :(

    32. Wait, okay sorry to butt in, but are you guys sure? Every mod I have seen of a tan doll from Fairyland the color goes all the way through. I would think the break turned white because of the pliability/stretch of the resin. If you were to sand it with a high grit sandpaper (not that I advise that in this case), I would think it would slowly go back to tan.

ETA: Okay I found a couple of examples on Flickr here and here. I am fairly certain they are tan all the way through.

    33. Fairyland tan should be all the way through brown resin, I have never heard that their tan would be sprayed or some other applying method.

    39. Thank you :) it's from lalasakustore on etsy :)

    40. RE: FL tan, that break is really weird! I wonder if maybe it's white from the stress of breaking? Like others in this thread, my experience is that if you dig into a tan doll, the inside is lighter than the outside but certainly not full-on white.

Do you still have the piece that broke off, and if so, are you planning to glue it back on? If you don't, maybe you could try sanding the break a little to see if it continues being white past the surface.

    41. I'm still getting the hand of forums but I was wondering do heeled feet work with the male moe body? or would I have to do some sort of modification?

    48. Do the event heads have names? I feel like a lot of the time it's just winter event head 2016-2017, or halloween 2018. Makes it hard to search for one that you may have your eye on, either to buy or to see examples of.

    49. No, they mostly stick with that naming convention. There is a couple of exceptions, though. Juri 14 is often just called a mnf Soony because... well, that's what she is X'D (with elf ears). And I thiiiiink Sircca is the same? I might be wrong on that one, though, lol. Don't quote me.

    50. Hey guy's I gotta question. Do you guys knows what company sell black wigs that don't stain? I might just end up getting a silicon cap just in case for my minifee but thought I'd thought I would still ask

    51. The only wigs I’ve seen that claim not to stain are amadiz wigs. They’re pricy alpaca or angora wigs but are made with white wig caps to prevent staining. I own a black one from them because I had the same concern. Im a little weary of silicone wig caps because I’ve had them stain three of my dolls in the past pretty badly. Some people say the silicon can react to certain faceup sealants, but either way I just don’t trust them anymore.

    52. @pokori Definitely not a leeke wig. I have had bad luck with those on more than one occasion. Those plus a silicone wig cap plus MSC made for a lot of sanding for me. My only recommendation would be For My Doll if you are looking for a traditional synthetic wefted wig. They normally do nude colored caps.

    53. I just purchased some really lovely black wigs from Luts. I have to go and check my guy that is wearing it after work today to confirm or deny staining. He's worn it for about 2-3 months at this point. One point to mention about Luts wigs, they have a very deep cap so if you did decide to purchase them, you may need to put a small circle cotton pad (think make up removal type) on top of his head first, then the wig.

    54. i've had that silicon cap problem with my bluefairies but i never was 100% sure if it was the wig cap or what :doh
i'm looking for a short-ish black wig for my incoming tan lucywen elf (one of my grails!!! been looking for him for quite a while!), so that's good to keep in mind.

i know the event alters are usually slightly smaller than the standard release, so does anyone here know the best wig and eye size for lucywen elf?

    55. Just finished paying for my first Minifee :celebrate Now I just gotta wait for him to come home~ How should I go about getting furniture for him? Do people generally make their own or is there a place to order/purchase them from?

      • x 1
    56. @Denovo , my favorite places to find doll size furniture are antique stores. There are stores/manufacturers that make and sell furniture for dolls, but in my experience, they tend to be very pricey - plus shipping is quite expensive. I don't think I've paid more then $15.00US for any one piece of furniture when bought from an antique or thrift store, and I have chairs, loungers and beds.

    57. I'm waiting on a couple girls to get new face-ups right now. I can't wait to get them home! I'm also keeping an eye out for some good wigs. I could make them but it's so much easier to just buy what more professional artists make!

I'm happy that at least a couple of my girls are coming together! My Ria is basically finished. I may change her wig out when I find the perfect one, but until then this works!
