Perhaps they would just make the neck connectors that seem to be in demand. @saharali I have been madly ordering the new males in this size range. I will see if any of the guys I have received look good with the Chicline girls. Please remind me if I forget!
(Just popping in here to say I saw the post on IG about the reboot and as a former mini collector and still owner of 2 mnf/chicline hybrids, the amount of things I would do for more of the neck connectors is limitless as I only have 1 and it's cracking)
@marxwyn - sorry for the delay! I put the head back on the Dollpamm body, and I thought maybe I rushed to judgment a little too quickly. Glamour shots in front of monitor. Then I removed the clothes, and nope - I'm still not happy about the neck. Spoiler: Noods Dollpamm front and side: Theeeeeeere it is. Big old neck flare: Next up - DF-H Xiao Chan: Wiggie: Note: Flickr is running slow tonight. Might take photos a minute to show up. My Flickr if you are having issues getting stuff to load.
Post #2: I notice several folks want neck adapters. I am working on one, cuz a) I think the default one is kinda ugly, and b) the way the head works, you're supposed to use the neck adaptor, a little bead, AND a tiny s-hook, which is a total PITA. The head is too small for all of that stuff. I want an adaptor with s-hook grooves instead, so I don't have to fiddle with the s-hook and a bead every time I want to swap heads. I'll keep y'all posted. We're measuring and working on our own (improved) version for free distribution on one of those 3D printing websites. In the interim, a small silicone kip keeps the head from flopping around, although the installed magnets are long gone, lol. Also, I was mad disappointed at Denver Doll's response, although I very much appreciate that they reached out to Fairyland and asked. I get it. Fairyland is a business, and they have to do what makes financial sense for them, but after five years of trying (and failing) to find a decent hybrid, I engaged in a little retail therapy and grabbed Huajing's special 1/4 scale body. Like 2D Doll's SY body, the measurements should be perfect, and the body should be proportional. But if my experience is anything like 2D Doll, well... I'm not holding my breath. I'll let you know.
thank you so much for the photos @MaleficentMrsofEvil oh I was also thinking about Huajing special body, although probably too tall? Or there is also Dollzone 1/5 girl body (though it is same tall as Dollpamm and DFH)
Next update: Doll Zone just released a new 1/5 scale body. Judging by the measurements, this body should be a perfect hybrid for a female Chic Line head. ACBJD is running a 15 percent off promotion sale with a pair of gift heel feet if you purchase before March 20, 2024. If anyone else would like to join me in my hybrid madness, let me know if you decide to pick up this body.
@MaleficentMrsofEvil That is a great body! I will be ordering at least one. Would the peach skin be the best match for Fairyland normal?
Wish I could answer. You might want to go to the photo reference section and ask someone who owns DZ and FL - I don't own any DZ dolls.
Thank you! Also I have asked Alice's Collections about the bust size. Bust A looks larger but bust B has a larger measurement. Alice's is checking. Also the Dollzone site has a full doll.
Update for existing Chic Line doll owners: Denver Doll found some old stock Chic Line hands, which are listed on their website.
I already own the four types (two pairs) of male CL hands, but the hoarder in me wants to get some more... although, I guess I can always get them to customize them differently than my Rou's default pairs. DX
If anyone is ordering the Dollzone 1/5 body, I noticed that the A bust looked larger but the B bust had a larger measurement. I asked Alice's Collections about it and they checked with Dollzone. They got back to me and the B bust is larger! They have updated the pictures. There are two heads available also. I ordered a doll in peach. If the color doesn't match Fairyland, at least I will have a matching head!
@nancy_schroeder_ca - I'm looking at the pictures on ACBJD, and I asked for more pictures of the neck without the head. From the front, it looks like the neck tapers at the top, but from the side, it looks like it gets a little wider?
Greetings. I've been gone from the hobby for ages. But I've slowly been working my way back and I need to restring my Chic line Minifee Ruth hybrid. Like bad. He was floppy to start with when I bought him second hand but it's patently ridiculous now. Anyone have any resources? Pics? Vids? Advice on where to start? Elastic size even?
According to this page on Cool Cat, the MSD bjd needs 3mm to 3.5mm elastic: ☆ Cool Cat Collection Shop. Doll Accessories ☆ -- Elastic String There's a diagram on that page that shows how elastic is strung through a doll. I would recommend taking the body apart, but carefully put the parts in LEFT and RIGHT containers (like plastic tubs, for example). Take photos of how the body is put together, so you can easily refer back, when re-assembling. Give them a wash, while keeping them sorted, let the parts airdry for a day, and then put the body together. Wish I could help you in-person...
That might. I remember reading about their legs being problematic to string or just them being a huge pain in general so this is a project that's kinda haunting me. And I can't seem to find anyone who's done it before. Specifically on these guys anyway.
@Elcia - Chics are strung very differently from most dolls. be sure you have instructions before taking yours apart. I will look for a manual too. One of us might find something helpful. When you do restring, take pics at each stage as a reminder. Good luck.
I scanned the whole manual last night into a PDF. Send me a message with your email and I will send it to you.
I just recently repainted my Rou, after more than ten years without touching all of my (resin) BJD. I shared a lot of photos of him here in the gallery side of the forum, if anyone is interested. I noticed his head back is a different coloring now. Not really yellow, but weirdly darker than the rest of him, and leaning towards green-toned. Has anyone else noticed any parts of their CL turning weird colors, or aging differently than the rest of the doll? I am wondering if it's because I didn't seal the piece with MSC. I probably will do so now. I also had a nasty surprise of most of his magnets corroding. I had to remove the larger two on his back head piece. I couldn't get the tinier ones, and I'll probably won't be able to get the ones in the hands, out either.... T___T;;; Male Upper Torso Nudity Warning:
I went and popped the wigs off my two oldest ChicLines and looked them over and I can't say that I'm seeing any color differences. However, my eyes are not the best, so it's possible that I'm just overlooking something that a more eagle-eyed person might focus on. Every time I mess with them, though, I do notice all over again how the dark gray magnets show right through their skin in multiple places. Sigh.
great pics. My white Rou has mellowed a bit. Shows his age a little more than tan Fabilis and normal Lishe and El. (have various faceplates too. none look mellow, possibly because they live in a box)
Thank you both Gallye and petiteballerine, for sharing your experiences based on my question. I keep my resin BJD in my closet, inside their original packaging all the time, unless I am taking photos or customzing them in some way. So, I thought they all had aged pretty well, until I saw my Rou's head back/plate looking weirdly darker than the rest of him. I recall him being pretty peachy-colored, not quite as pale as he is now. Except for his back plate.... DX Oh well, I guess that's one of the main reasons I stopped purchasing resin dolls all those years ago (then went and got one more in 2022, lol! Learned my lesson really good, huh?). I thought FL were so innovative with their magnets everywhere. Now I wish they had either not use them at all or sealed all of them within the resin. They are so freaking rusty now and keep flaking all over the place. I don't feel I can get the tinier ones out unless I can live with major damage, so I guess I am stuck with rust -- I might "seal" them with gloss, to help prevent some of the flaking from getting everywhere. *sigh* Thanks again, for answering my question. I hope his head's back piece doesn't get more green/darker over time, and that sealing it with MSC will help slow whatever it is, as it seems to have done with the rest of the doll. Unless he somehow got stained with the black foam in his box, but the rest of him didn't, because of the MSC? The rubbing alcohol didn't seem to do anything to the staining, if that is what it is. I used high percent alcohol to soften the glue holding the magnets in place. However, the whole head back looks like that, not just the outside that touches the foam at all times...it's so weird? T___T;;
That's really strange! I mean, my Chiclines just sort of live on the bookshelf over there and have for many years, and their color has probably changed in that time just because that's how resin is - but it hasn't changed much, and it's changed evenly all over their bodies, both in covered and uncovered places, both MSC-sealed and unsealed. I'm also not seeing any rust around their magnets and I do live in a fairly damp area in a house without central A/C or dehumidifiers. This conversation made me remember that I have a BW Rou from the very first release who has been stored away in his box for several years, waiting for me to get off my butt and list him for sale in the marketplace. I went and pulled him out and took off his faceplace and looked him over, and, while he is definitely yellower now, I can't see any weird dark spots or rusty magnets on him. The yellowing is fairly even all over his body. The foam in his box has cute little indentations where his butt and shoulderblades have been touching it, too, so he's definitely been in contact with the foam and it hasn't done anything to him. The foam and box both look fine, not decaying or damaged. I really have no idea what to tell you. Could the box have gotten wet somehow in the past? What a mystery!
I have a similar experience to @Gallye. no rusted mags, colors slightly mellowed on dolls in dim light. I live in the tropics, but everyone looks ok. AC when there isn't a hurricane.
Thank you both once again, petiteballerine and Gallye, for your feedback! I live in a humidity neutral zone in California; we have neutral humidity levels year-round. It does get hot as h3ll here during summer days, but it's not desert or tropical levels of heat. I hadn't thought about humidity at all, but the airflow in my closet is null, so I might have to get some hygrometers to measure it and be sure, that there is neutral humidity in there as well. Crusty heck, now one more thing to worry about. DX
