Fairyland ChicLine 40cm Discussion Part 5

Sep 3, 2018

    1. Hi, all! Long time since I've been up, let alone on this thread. But I'm trying to improve! Alex and El are gorgeous. (I've got to go back over earlier threads and check out everyone's kids.)

On personal front, have finally begun on Morgaine's real outfit (I've lived in fear for years now...she does NOT approve of her dress) and thot I'd share. I've started with the slacks and think I've come up with a really good fit. This is just a hand-basted mockup. The actual britches will be in a fine black leather. The narrow fit is necessary for going into high boots, but I think it's going to move pretty well without ...er... crack exposure. There will be a seam all the way down the back as opposed to darts, which helps it flex with her. And obviously, it'll have a waistband. Anyway, once I have an actual pattern, would you like it posted? And where would I do that?

    2. Looking good @Vindalootoo - there's a patterns section under workshop where you could post. a nice idea. :3nodding:

    3. Duh. Thanks!

    4. They're looking great. ^__^

    5. My craftroom is in mid remodel so I can't actually work on them for a bit more. Driving me crazy, now that I'm actually focused on it. Morgaine has been glaring at me for years. I made her a quick and dirty long dress when she first arrived and she's been swiping Vanye's clothes ever since. He ended up with two pair of pants...the first quick and dirty I made for him and the pair I made for a Project Runway outfit, so he could spare one, but she's disgusted with the fit. The whole outfit(s) are these:

Forgive the crap quality. I don't have anything showing the costumes on this computer and I'm too lazy to go to another. I had a copy of the graphic here (for pattern-making reference) so I held it with one hand and clicked the camera with the other. :D But at least they show the outfits...sort of. Morgaine on Siptah is the only frame in this volume that actually shows her clothes! Otherwise, they're covered either by the fancy overrobe or the fur cloak. :D

Funny thing is, I never imagined actually MAKING the things when I designed them...ARGH 35 years ago?!? The tunic doesn't actually have a visible opening. I'll probably make it front closure with an overlap...maybe not. Since she has a lawn shirt and mail under it, I've got to keep fabric at a minimum. Lacing...that would work...

    6. @Vindalootoo The pants look great! Love the outfits you are going for!

      My vampire hunter looking awesome:

    7. OMG! Where'd you get that gorgeous jacket?!? Awesome indeed!

    8. Question for all of you...I've got one of those head pieces that lets you put an LTF head on a chicline body. I want to make a tall Shiwoo elf cousin for Wiishu, but Vanye refuses to share his body (can't blame him.) I JUST MISSED (because I'm an idiot) getting a male CL body on the MP, and I'm not really sure I want to invest in a whole new doll should FL offer these lovely guys again. Esp not for something that will be essentially a setabout. So....with all the above in mind, is there any other BJD equivalent in size to the ChicLine? The quality isn't really that important, as I say, he'll be mainly a setabout, but the head attachment would need to be similar, I suppose.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    9. @redmaiko - I think the vampires would just gather around her, begging to be petted. gorgeous! :daisy

    10. She looks fantastic @redmaiko <3
I love the color contrast between the blue jacket and the red hair, and the purple eye shadow. It all works really well together.

    11. @Vindalootoo The jacket is from Integrity Toys Tulabelle Coated in Glamour. Except for the zipper not working, it's a great jacket. Wish I could help with your question, but I will keep an eye out!

      @petiteballerine @Lady Ravenswood Thank you both!:whee:

    12. Heh heh...I've had the connector and the Shiwoo faceplate for, oh, four years. Had kind of forgotten about it until I found the sold body in the MP! :D Something'll show up.

I might have to look into the jacket! Morgaine might like to go modern while she waits for her chain mail....

    13. Oh...It's a whole doll! And sold out. Guess I'll see if I can make one...It's a great coat. Tell me, does the left side (doll's left side) of the zipper go up into the shoulder seam? I'm really loving the crossover of the lapels for the asymetric zipper.

    14. I believe so (if I understand correctly). There are a few more photos of it in her album if that helps.

    15. Oh, the embarrassment! Your photo above shows it clear as a bell! When I first saw it, I thought it was some kind of decorative stitching! So cool. I will NOT allow Morgaine to look at that album. Those red boots are wonderful.

    16. Hi everyone! I need a bit of help. I have the lovely Ineffa Regina fullset in tan, sleeping face with fl face-up, extra feet and hands and also the trident. I am going to have to sell her but have no idea how to determine the price. I keep searching for info but maybe I'm not using the right words or something? Any help would be appreciated so I can get this beauty to someone who will finally take her out of the box and enjoy her and my vet can continue to send her kids to college!! Thank you and my best to all, Skylar

    17. A good way to get some idea of her value is to go to the Sold Dolls subforum, here:
      /forums/sold-dolls-archive.115/

and search it for either 'Chicline' or 'Regina' - click on the little magnifying glass icon in the upper right, under the banner ad, and type in your word. That'll show you what other, similar dolls have sold for in the past!

    18. Thank you so much!! I've been at it for days now. It is very nice of you to provide the link and I appreciate this very much. You rock!!

    19. Wow, my computer has been broken, and I'm so behind, no time to catch up, but got notice of posts here and I wonder when this thread woke up? LOL Anyways :D....
Those look fantastic! I really love the drawings/comics you posted, she's going to be amazing! So cool you're multi talented!

That really is a great jacket, I wonder if all the Integrity Toys Tulabelle clothes fit? Have you tried?

    20. @IngieBee The only other Tulabelle clothing I have is the hot pink corset style top from Wicked and Divine. If I remember correctly, it wouldn't close in the back. I will have to try it out again tonight.

    21. Yah, they do look really thin in the waist :(

    22. Just posting an old photo of mine, since I miss the Chicline thread <3

I'm wondering, are people interested in getting more doll's from this line? Sometime next year, I was thinking of contacting Fairyland to see if they'd do a limited preorder, like they did for us last time, but I obviously won't do that if I'm the only one who is interested in it, so I thought I'd gauge that here, at least.
I want a Rou so bad for my Ineffa ;-; pretty tan boy and little pale girl.

      • x 6
    23. @saharali Yes! I would like to get that wonderfully derpy Ital, and a white skin girl for my snow queen! I keep hoping for a new release.:eusa_pray

    24. I've been impatiently waiting for them to do a pre-order for this line. They're so cute!

    25. I would love another one!

    26. So I went back to check the information on the previous chicline preorder (which happened in October 2012!!! 7 years ago!!) and I just thought I should share some information we might want to consider before we actually get in touch with Fairyland, and so we can recall the nerves of not knowing whether the preorder would go through LOL
I feel like having as much information as we possibly can when we go to Fairyland with our request will work to our benefit. I don't want them to think we're affiliated with people trying to steal their products; we want them to know we're hobbyists who love their dolls and want to support them!
So, please read thru everything and be as detailed as you feel like being in your replies!! :chibi
Things from the last preorder to note:
      • Preorder time: 22 days.
      • First and foremost, each doll body type needed a minimum of 20 orders to go into production.
So, 20 Normal Male dolls, 20 Muscular Male, 20 Normal Bust Female, and 20 Large Bust Female. If 20 of a type were not ordered, that doll was not produced.
      • Face sculpt, leg type (female only), hand choices and resin choices did NOT impact the preorder. The issue was the production of the mold, I believe, since creating body molds are the greatest expense.
      • Hands and feet were available for preorder. Chicline females came with high heeled feet as standard.
      • Tanned skin was not available. I definitely want tanned skin for my potential order, since they're offering it more frequently, (last one was June-July LE Minfiee) I think we should consider requesting it. Can't hurt to ask for it.
      -----

When we went through this preorder last time, we managed to get all dolls made! If this is how it's run again, hopefully we'll be able to manage to get all the dolls we want.

Fairyland has since hidden their a la carte pages from the site, but the different body types can be found here: Male, Female.
I recommend looking them over and reminding yourselves of the diffferences so you can figure out which body you'd like.

And, once you know which doll you'll want, please considering answering this poll regarding which body type you're interested in! If we know what we want, Fairyland might be more considerate of our request.
      :apresent: Body Type Poll :apresent:

Also consider answering this poll; if we can figure out the best time for all of us to order without monetary issues (is there a universal tax time?) then we'd be able to afford more dolls, and get the preorder to go through.
      :apresent: Preorder Period Poll :apresent:

Finally, a poll for head sculpts. I know that heads aren't crucial to assuring preorder, but I thought it'd be fun to see what we're all interested in! uwu
      :apresent: Sculpt Poll :apresent:

PLEASE ONLY VOTE ONCE ON THESE POLLS!! THINK ABOUT YOUR ANSWERS CAREFULLY!

      -----

That's all I can think of for now. :evilplot: Let's plan, and let's work towards convincing Fairyland to give us another preorder!

    27. tan Rou muscular. I have him in white muscular & normal slim. tan Fabilus is wonderful, so I 'd love another tan for my 5 chic crew. <3

    28. Don't have the funds ATM, but I'd try to drum up cash if you all did this :)

    29. I would love to own two more male bodies, but I don't believe I would have funds for them either. I'm buried deep in pre-orders for at least until May/June of next year, so I don't think I'll have extra funds laying around anytime soon. ^.^;; I do love the Chic Line bodies so it's hard to say no, however, I'm not swimming in money. I have to be a responsible adult (which sucks!), and just say I can't right now. I do hope to see more Chic Lines around, it's always great seeing what other people do with the same exact sculpt!

I think I never posted my entry for this years sewing contest, so I'll leave it here; the challenge was to make the entire thing out of lace. I suck at sewing, so that's why I love entering the contests; I get to sew something new for my dolls because I no longer have the motivation to do it, on a regular basis. DX
      [IMG]

And this is my 2017 (I think?) entry. If I recall correctly the challenge was to use only sheer fabric, but I might be wrong. I chose to make a black-cat inspired outfit, because I love animals and people rarely adopt black ones of any species but specially cats:

    30. @IngieBee @Enzyme Hard same xD I won't actually be able to afford a new boy for a while, I'm paying off some home repairs so obviously that takes priority. BUT! I'm the kinda girl who plans things months in advance, so even if we plan to get the order to hapepen in the second half of 2020 (after July) I like knowing everything now. I may be slightly compulsive. So still respond to the surveys so we know when everyone is comfortable :)

Also dAMN @Enzyme those outfits are stunning. Sheer fabric is such a pain to me, so your work is even more astounding! Kitty tail also makes me very happy!

    31. Awesome costumes, @Enzyme!

@saharali , survey? Where is the survey? I'll respond :thumbup

    32. Oh gosh, LOL, I remember seeing that post, but it was long, and I didn't read it (usually skimming through, LOL)

      Anyways, i voted :)

    33. Saharali, if I don't add more stuff to my already long list of pre-orders I already have (which I doubt I won't, because FFVII Remake stuff will probably be coming out around then), then I'll might contemplate adding two more male Chic Line bodies to my collection. I wish there were options to have the body reproduced in other plastics, I'm not too much of a fan of resin, but I know these are all small companies who can't afford metal molds. Thanks for your comments on my crappy sewing skills, I'm too old know to improve now, but when I was younger I actually did try to learn! Before gettting my first "BJD" I had never even owned needle and thread. DX

IngieBee, thank you! I tried making them everyday-wear type outfits, but I'm a bit crazy so they did turnout a bit costume-like. I wouldn't wear them myself to go to work, but I don't doubt I would wear a all pieces with othe stuff underneath (for modesty reasons). (:

    34. I voted! I would love a chicline! (Or several)

    35. Hi. I know it's possible to put a mnf head a chicline body. Does someone have picture of how to do it and can tell me how to put it?

    36. @cawo114
Hmm, I think they used to sell an adapter neck mech for it? I'm not certain. Hopefully someone knows for sure. :3nodding:

Edit: Ah looks like maybe it was a whole headback system?
It's mentioned in the wiki here: /doawiki/index.php?title=Chic_Line

    37. I think i have the connector to adapt the mnf head on the body, i just don't know how to put it and i'm afraid to break it if i do it the wrong way

    38. Ah, I see! I'm so sorry I can't help with how to attach it as I've never had one. Does it not fit on the current neck mech key?

    39. @cawo114 Can you post any pictures? Maybe we can help then?

    40. I thought that the MNF connector simply clicked over the top of the Chicline neck, once you removed the headback/head. As it's not a faceplate system (like adding a LTF head), then put the MNF head on as normal.

In fact, I found this photo on Flickr, which shows a neck connecter inside the neck hole of the MNF head, before clicking over the Chicline neck.

    41. Ah, that makes sense! Interesting to see how they worked it all out.

Aw, reading that wiki blurb they had so many plans for chicline....sad that many of them fizzled before they could come about. Fantasy parts would have been fun to see. Oh well.

(Edit: Like body parts, I know they had cat faceplates. :3nodding:)

    42. Raising this from the dead, lol. I just got a Chicline Lishe and though she has some clothes...what can she wear? Does Minifee items fit? Or should I look for other stuff?

    43. Well, I no longer own any Chicline but jumping in to say that Minifee, generally, won't fit as they are a LOT smaller, more fashion doll size - unfortunately I've forgotten what fashion doll clothes fit precisely, you might have to go back through the threads, Tonner of some kind but I've forgotten which Tonner type of doll? Hopefully someone else knows!

      • x 1
    44. I agree with Peppermint. The Chiclines can wear the smaller Tonner girl stuff, like Antoinette some Ellowyne. Here's one of my girls wearing Deju Vu by Tonner. Shoes fit, too.

    45. Also, they can wear some Dollmore FMD clothes. But their legs are shorter :D Glad to see someone rezzing this thread from the dead :D I need to take some new pictures, but my boy Rou (is that his name?) needs a decent wig!!!

      • x 1
    46. Ha, ha, my Rou needs a decent outfit (after all these years, sigh). Guess I should go back and re read the threads as I really should focus on my guy and get him dressed in something flattering.

    47. Does anyone think that FL will re-release chicline dolls? I think they were a bit ahead of their time, but I think these dolls are gorgeous!

    48. I sort of wish they’d rerelease them but in scale with the FID and Raccoondolls? Then we’d have a whole lot of fashion dolls in the same scale! I do feel they were ahead of their time, and maybe Fairyland gave up on them too quickly?

    49. I thought Fairyland was willing to release Chicline as long as there were enough people to order them? If I recall correctly, they weren't selling well and because the molds are so expensive to make, they decided to stop. But if enough people (I know there was a number, but I don't recall how many) ordered one, then they would make them again in batches. I personally would love one or two more male bodies and a whole male doll, but not right now. I am hoarding way too many OT fgures and toys at the moment (still need to pay for a thousand different figures before the year ends, and still have plenty left until Summer of next year). So, I do want more, I just can't afford one right now. I love their size as they are, I prefer true-to-scale 1:6 action figures, so I wouldn't want larger Chiclines, but I guess if they did change the size I wouldn't need to get any. (:

    50. I have two Chicline dolls and have given them both makeovers. I wanted to refresh them and get them away from lurking at the back of the display shelves. I love these little dolls and they have great little bodies and pose so well. I will post Lishe soon.

@Rynn007 I found that Tonner's Tyler Wentworth line often works but the Chicline girls have a shorter waistline so fitted things are not always perfect. My goal is to make mine some of their own clothing...one day ;)

      Love your photo @sistercuervo :)

Here is Ino - freshly repainted today. I made her some eyeballs too as I really haven't got any eyes I have ever been happy with in this size. I want to paint her sleeping face plate too.

    51. Here is Ino's sleeping face plate. This has been waiting for years to be painted so I'm pleased to finally get it done this summer! :)

I'll post photos of Lishe soon but I think I need to make her some more eyeballs as she looks quite young with the ones I made (irises too large perhaps?)

    53. Sadly, Fairyland's new website does not include Chicline :pout: Cherish the dolls you have! They're even more special now. Hunting for a boy secondhand is going to be fun

    54. Oh that is so sad :( I was really hoping for more items for chicline.
I wonder what made them "flop". Their bodies are so pretty and they look very realistic.

      • x 1
    55. I think they were a bit early. T don;t think collectors weren't looking for smaller mature style dolls at that time. Now it is a popular size. They were also difficult to produce. I think they would be much more popular now! Maybe they will bring them back someday.

      • x 1
    56. Yeah, it's sad. :( I think they were early too! I have been seeing more and more dolls in this size lately. They have them all listed under Info> Doll Archive. So I am still crossing my fingers! I still adore my Chiclines.:aheartbea I photographed Alex recently in his "Howl" coat. :)

    57. Oh, it's so nice seeing a new photo @redmaiko , he's gorgeous!

    58. The Chicline was definitely ahead of its time :huh?: I would hope now that mature minis are more popular, FL would consider bringing them back. But, given they're discontinuing some of their MNF as well, the breadwinner of the company, I'm guessing not.

@redmaiko He looks so good :love That jacket is to die for. Did the seamstress make a custom size for you?
