Fairyland ChicLine 40cm Discussion Part 4

Oct 8, 2013

    1. Tonner & Mm. Alexander Alex fashions fit the girls. Alex shoes fit well for the most part.
Some Tyler loose jackets & coats also fit the guys.
(the bathing suit in the photo a few posts above this is a Brenda Starr)

Lishe in a silk chiffon Tonner Tyler dress. Perfect fit.

    2. @Evelien It really is a mixed bag as others have said along with personal preference. For the girls, some of the Tonner Tyler fashion doll outfits work. The dress my Ena is wearing in the last photo is for Minifee. It is slightly oversized, but the ribbon around the waist cinches it in a bit.
My Ineffa here has a mixture of stuff. Shoes/Boots from Facets meant for Tonner Tyler, her leggings are Minifee size, her crop top is slim msd (I taped it in the back so it looks a little more in scale and less baggy :sweat) and her coat is from a 16" Poppy Parker fashion doll set.

    3. @Evelien my Chicline here is pictured in a pair of pink jeans sized for Ficondoll's latest body size if it helps...I'd agree that Chicline are more petite than the MNF girls. I haven't had a MNF for long so I haven't tried lots of clothes on her yet but I don't think the pink jeans would fit on her.

Oh and the sandals she has on are sized to fit Tonner's Tyler too.

I need to paint new faces on both my girls and take new pics of them. They pose so well.

    4. Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone!! I am keeping a list of the stuff that fits and you helped make it longer :D. Also I got in touch with someone who's making a custom pair of jeans for me :D

    5. That's awesome...thank you too for chatting about Chiclines! Its prompted me to make a start on doing the face ups on mine again. Sooo tiny...but if I have any success I will share photos :)

Oh and on the clothing again...what I found with some things from the Tonner wardrobe is that the Chicline are short waisted and for that reason some things don't sit properly...but there are plenty that do.

I just love the little Chicline dolls and their amazing poseability. I expected the same from the Feeple65 but was disappointed when I tried to pose them.

    6. I fell in love with Chiclines at a dollmeet years ago. I played with a friend's Chicline girl for hours. I bought my own and sold her again... And I regret that now. I am so glad I could buy another :D

    7. I am STILL on the lookout for Victorian clothes for my Rou. I know I have asked this many, many times before, but anyone aware of how/where to get a frock coat, waistcoat and trousers?

    8. Hey Max! I'm afraid I can't help... I have a question of my own... Has anyone tried 6mm eyes with a small iris from Ancient Tales on Etsy?

    9. What style (year) of frock coat were you looking at? Double or single breasted? Most Victorian frock coats were made of thick fabrics like wool, but that would be far too bulky on a chicline. Depends on how accurate you want to be as well, I suppose.

I'm new to sewing myself, but I've been obsessed with period fashion since I was a teenager. Hubs and I married 3 months ago in this steampunk-Victorian mashup and I spent quite a few weekends with my dress maker and fellow period clothing enthusiast and ever since, I've been obsessed with starting my own period costumes (researching the robe a l'anglaise right now). I have a few period pattern books, with more in my wishbasket and I was thinking of trying to scale them down to chiclines sizes. Would you say they have similar proportions to humans? That will make things considerably easier but thinking about all those trimming details in miniature is making me nervous.

Edit: a thought occurs to me: fantasy parts could be 3D printed.

    10. The boys are a lot closer in size to the MNF boys - so perhaps get one off Brennil (Her Delicate Strength)? She does some nice Pseudo Victoriana clothing. It would probably work best on the top half, although one of my boys wears a pair of MNF trousers and they're not too bad.

Janus in this shot is wearing a pair of MNF trousers, they fit fine although they're a touch long. I haven't tried a MNF top on him, but I have some of HDS's MNF clothing, so I can always try for you if you like? (One of my MNF boys wears her Victoriana waistcoat and shirt).

    11. That's a lovely outfit! You make beautiful clothes.

    12. Thanks, @TeaPartyRevolution. I am not sure I was even aware of that costumier. Nice stuff, but unfortunately too steampunk and not enough Victorian for what I need. That has potentially opened up a whole, new avenue of searching, though, if they can wear MNF clothes. I have understood that they tend to be too loose, which would matter for tailoring. I will have a scout around.

@Anistasiya, I am looking for historical accuracy, so fabrics scaled down to look like their full-sized counterparts, double breasted, waist seam etc. I am thinking that, once I finally get him his suit, that's it for his clothing! His wife has managed with pretty much the same dress for her entire life with me.

    13. Okay, I am going to bring this up with a whole bunch of buts, ifs, qualifications, and reservations, BUT:

There is a Thai tailor/wigmaker named Chewin who makes stuff for Tonner and Fashion Royalty - and Iplehouse and Dollshe and so on. I originally discovered him when he posted pictures of his two Chiclines to Fairyland's site, and contacted him, and commissioned from him all the awesome wigs that my boys wear. A few months ago he put up an actual shopping site:

doll fashion for doll bjd Iplehouse

While he does not list Chiclines as one of the dolls he can craft for, when I emailed him, he said that yes, he can still make clothes and wigs for Chicline boys, at least - anything listed as 'middle size'. (He can't make custom-sized shoes, since he doesn't have Chicline-specific lasts, but shoes made for Jamieshow boys ought to fit reasonably well anyway.) I bought an outfit, it arrived (albeit three months later), and it's lovely and well-made.

He does make Victorian-styled clothes for larger dolls, and some other historical fashions. I have no idea how historically accurate they are. I also don't know how open he is to custom orders and the like - he seems incredibly busy with his new site, maybe too busy - but you could try contacting him to see.

He did have a Chicline girl once. I don't know if he still does.

      ramble ramble

    14. Chewin's sister Kittimavadee makes the clothes. She's brilliant, but I don't know if she would do custom western style outfits. she's on Facebook.
hasn't Tonner made a Victorian style costume? they've done everything else. my chic girls wear Tonner but I've made most of my boys' things.

    15. Oh! Good to know. I'm not on Facebook so my knowledge is limited there. :XD:

      Still, it's all good stuff!

    16. @MadamMauMau, if I may be so bold, may I suggest a regency gown for Queen Mab one day? She seems so timeless and would look lovely in a wispy empire gown.
I see Mab is wearing a 1840-60 style gown (crinoline) so I assume you want your Rou to match her? There were two styles of coat that were accepted, I believe. The one we now call a morning coat or tailcoat, and the one that is commonly referred to as a frock coat. Picture guide. The tail coat is very Dickensian as they were easing away from regency and the frock coat was more popular towards the later part of the Victorian era. I associate it with Jeremy Brett's Sherlock, so 1885ish, but you can see Prince Albert wearing them in photos before he died in 1861. It depends on how "fashion conscious" you want your couple to be. The double breasted frock coat is often called a Prince Albert since he popularised that style, though I don't believe a double breasted coat was worn with a double breasted vest because it caused too many layers.

I've begun scaling the patterns down. Trousers were easy enough. The vest though, the collar is irritatingly fiddly and I think pockets might be out of the question. I'm having trouble with the coat because their main feature is they're supposed to be fitted at the waist to give an hourglass figure so there is quite a few pieces, and when you scale it down you have to make sure everything lines up. I need to try a nice billowy shirt next. The dolls are considerably longer than humans too so the patterns are almost doubled in length but keeping the width the same :sweat I'll post the templates once I'm happy with them, if anyone is interested.

    17. @Anistasiya I would be very interested to see! My couple are based on Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's style, so I want a double breasted frock coat for him.

Whilst Mab really prefers Victorian, I do have some other ideas for her, such as a fantasy, rather pervy Baroque. I have made a start on it, but it one of the many projects that got supplanted by The Next Thing to Do.

@Gallye I do know Chewin, but hadn't thought of commissioning him I think because, in the Victorian section of his site, are Georgian clothes. Well, if they can tailor, they might be prepared to consider real Victorian. I might have a word with him on FB.

Thank you all! I finally have a speck of hope, after years of Chicline nakedness!

    18. @MadamMauMau, oh how lovely! V&A did immediately spring to mind when you were talking about your couple, I can't wait to see them complete and together. I love Baroque, it's so extravagant, so I am curious to see your fantasy/pervy take ;)
I was scrolling through my instagram feed this morning and came across Ruth Watkins, a historical costumier based in Nottingham. If you scroll down, you can see some progress pictures of a 16" doll. The dress is tudor (or renaissance, not sure, I struggle distinguishing the two) but she has expressed a love of all eras. Perhaps she could help? Having trained as a historical costumier, she would be able to get as historically accurate as you'd want, within reason.

    19. @Anistasiya Great find! I will follow that up for sure. Thanks for that.

    20. I have now found someone to make my Rou his outfit; MerryDoll on Etsy (and on here). Looks as though it is going to be incredible. Thank you all for your help. I have been looking for six years or so for this outfit. I am more than looking forward to it arriving.

And, whilst I am here, another thing I have searched for on and off over the years is proper ruffs for the dolls. Finally found someone else on Etsy who was prepared to make them. They are incredible. Queen Mab was the first to wear one.

    21. Oh, man, that ruff is amaaaazing. So crisp!

I'm looking forward to seeing your Rou all dressed up and ready to go. :)

    22. Eeeeep! That ruff is awesome!

I am popping by with a hybrid I put together. My tan Chicline Rou was sitting here up in the air, so I took a leap and got a Fairyline Momo body to attempt a hybrid. It isn't too bad really. With no modding his sides like to pop a bit out of the pelvis and not really stay straight. I think it is cute though!

    23. @redmaiko - Marvelous! It looks like a perfect fit in the photo. those feet are sooo cute. :kitty1

    24. Dang, that's a pretty good fit, @redmaiko! He looks great - did you get the ears and tail too?

    25. @petiteballerine Gah I love those feet too!!
@Gallye I got the tail, I will have to get a shot of that soon. It is giggle-inducing!!

    26. Oh boy! I have to agree that it looks sop on in the picture. Can't even imagine him with ears and a tail (trying not to snicker).

    27. @redmaiko Wow! He does look amazing!!! That is a cool hybrid. He looks so rugged and handsome, so well suited for the forest life.

I've had my poor El sitting in the box for over a year now... but after seeing your guy I'm pretty sold on giving him a beard and mustache.

    28. @redmaiko you are a god among men, this looks amazing!!!
I wonder how the hip joint fits with the girl body? Coz if it fits well, then, f**k i'll need to get one for myself.

    29. @remaiiko That looks so cute! He's awesome as is, but with a bunny-bum he's extra adorable!

I recently decided to be obsessed with chicline (I bought 3 all at once, and now I'm hunting for more as I sell off other dolls). I love their size! But finding boy clothes is hard. I'm going to have to start sewing.

    30. @calliope13 Thank you!:whee:
@mollym Thank you! It was my first time painting a beard. I might try it again though, I am not quite satisfied with how it turned out! Hope to see your El soon!!!
@saharali LOL Thank you! I will have to see if the Chicline girl's bust part fits on the moeline tummy. That might be cute too!
@JessiFlakes Thank you! I will get some more photos showing his fluffy butt! ;) I just love all my chiclines (I um...might have seven...:ablink:). I like that minifee boy clothes fit the guys, but even those are difficult to find. :(

    31. @redmaiko OMG, which do you have?! I have only 3. lol

I haven't sewn in awhile, but I was thinking I should start making Chicline clothing...

    32. @JessiFlakes I have two Rous, a lion, Ineffa, Chloe, Nanuri Male, Ena and Rin Elf and a couple floating faceplates.
Here is the requested bunny butt with realfee may bunny ears. ;)

    33. He's the most adorable/sexy guy I've ever seen! <3
I had six chiclines, but sold one because he lived in his box. The others are sitting right here by my desk on the bookcase.

    36. Wait a minute! I have a chic-line Minifee boy! I could make him a steampunk mer-horse?!

How did you make your hybrid @redmaiko ?

    37. From the belly up it is the Chicline Normal (non-muscular) body, and the rest is obviously the Fairyline Momo bunny parts. He is currently strung haphazardly using one of the rings from inside the Chicline knee. The ring is almost too small for the hook in the bunny pelvis. I got it on there temporarily though until I can find a larger one to restring him better. It doesn't fit perfectly, but it is pretty close with no modding!:love:dance
When I take him apart to restring him I plan to try the Chicline girl chest on the belly of the Fairyline Momo that is currently sitting in the box.

    38. redmaiko, That's the combination! Brutal bunny turned out! Delight!

    39. I see! That is very tempting.
I've looked at my chic Boy's stringing, I think i understand it.
Maybe this is a good excuse to unstring him and see what I can do about his infuriatingly slippy hip sockets.

    42. I am curious, does Fairyland ever offer Chic line basic anymore? Every time I've checked, it wasn't available :(

    43. A while ago I asked and they said they were planning on having a survey for rerelease, but we havenโ€™t seen anything yet.

    44. When was the last time the Chicline was released? I'm a bit confused about that.

    45. That would have been at the end of 2012/beginning of 2013, as far as I remember. That's when the Ital and Chloe fullsets were released. Fairyland also did a quota order earlier in 2012, in which they promised to make a new chunk of dolls if enough interest was shown (which it was).

    46. Oh how I wish they would open up orders for them again!! :eusa_pray

    47. I've never figured out how to dress my guy. He came home to me in a trade sometime ago and the poor little fella has been sleeping in his box this whole time, naked and bald. :O

    48. @mollym My guys are mostly dressed in slim mini/minifee clothes and some Tonner Matt pieces.

    49. Hi guys,
I have a pair chicline faceplate carved inside FM-1, is it Rou?
      thanks for your help.

    50. @marxwyn My Rou's have MM-1 inside the faceplate. My Ino has FM-1 though.

I am also am spamming my Ena. :whee:

    52. There was! It was in early 2013, when Chloe and Ital came out - they also made both a male and female Chicline Nanuri as event faceplates. Here are some pictures:
FairyLand Ball Joint Doll Shopping Mall

    53. when I bought Sylvia vampire full set, I received my choice of a gift head & I chose chicline elf. not sure what sculpt. nanuri elf? it is male.
I'll have to take a look , maybe paint the little guy.
